I was not impressed by Air Canada, in fact I was extremely disappointed. The service was below par and the flight attendants were very rude on several occasions. The food was repulsive, it tasted like plastic and who knows how old it was. The only reason it gets two stars is because of the selection of movies/tv shows/music. My friend had an emergency landing and had to wait for 7 HOURS at an airport until they could get another flight out. Next time I will be sure to book my flight through a different airline. read more

I WILL NEVER FLY WITH AIR CANADA EVER AGAIN--EVEN IF MY LIFE DEPENDED UPON IT!--Because it nearly did. Basically, what happened was that Air Canada delayed all my connecting flights from San Francisco to Stavanger, Norway and then, they lost my luggage on what was supposed to be a 15-day "dream vacation." My luggage contained the bulk of my daily prescription medication as well as technical hiking gear (the bulk of my trip involved hiking in Norway). I was basically stranded in Stavanger, Norway for 3 days because Air Canada lost my luggage and could not find it (as I was told by their so-called customer service operators) . Air Canada could not locate my luggage for 3 days, and by that time my medical condition that affected my legs got worse and I could barely walk in my hotel room, let alone go hiking! So, adding to the bad customer service that I already received from staff at the Air Canada service counter at Toronto Pearston Int'l, they proceeded to add insult to injury by informing me that I could NOT leave to go home earlier than the original date of my airline ticket. Otherwise, I would have to pay extra just to go home early! --Even with my worsening medical condition, whey they were responsible for in the first place! How messed up is that?!?!?!? First, 1) They lose my luggage, 2) My medical condition got worse, and 3) I missed the VERY reason for visiting Norway (my hikes were pre-paid with special Norwegian hiking guides)--and now, 4) I had to pay EXTRA to Air Canada just to get home? That is the lowest of the low in customer service! My San Francisco-based travel agent did everything that they possibly could to get me booked on ANOTHER airline as fast as they could. Heck, if I were to pay $1500+, I was NOT about to give more money to Air Canada. I got onto KLM Airlines--which made me so happy. It is great to be back in the United States--and I thank my travel agency for getting me back home from this "Air Canada nightmare." Air Canada should be ashamed of themselves...They broke nearly EVERY CUSTOMER SERVICE RULE in the book!! SHAME ON YOU, AIR CANADA!!! read more

Ratchet old plane. Terrible food. 7 dollar beer served warm. No electrical outlets. Uncomfortable seats. One and done.

It sounds like my experience was not the norm, but I didn't have any issues with my Air Canada flights. Departure was on time, arrival was early, seats were comfortable with adequate leg room, and service was polite. I especially liked how the flight attendants circulated the cabin with water pitchers for refills. Neither flight was full, and pricing was great: $250 RT/pp YSR/LAS. I did find it odd that the pilot never got on the intercom to give any info or a heads up on turbulence. read more

While I understand that airline companies don't have supernatural power to influence all aspects of travel, Air Canada found a way to screw up every variable that they DO have control over. During what was supposed to be a short 2-hour trip from Toronto to Chicago, Air Canada demonstrated a severe lack of professionalism and ability to implement response systems for the inevitable, chaotic circumstances that occur frequently in their industry. When I arrived at Toronto Pearson airport at 8:00 a.m. (1.5 hours prior to my flight to Chicago), snow was falling and I anticipated a potentially long day of travel. I used the self-service kiosk to print my boarding pass and pay my checked bag fee. I then proceeded to the counter to drop off my bag. However, when presenting my bag, the agent informed me that I had missed the cut-off by two minutes. TWO MINUTES. She said the flight had closed, and company policy prohibited that she let me on. She then informed me that I would have to see a ticket agent to re-schedule for a flight later in the day, and reassured me that there were open seats for several planes to Chicago. I got in the queue for the ticket agent, relieved to see that there were only 3 customers ahead of me. However, I endured TWO HOURS in line before I was able to speak to an agent. Due to snowfall and winter conditions, many people had to change flights, yet Air Canada was completely unprepared and understaffed in this situation. When I got to the desk, the agent informed me that their archaic technology (5+ years old) really hindered the process of re-assigning flights, and that it may have been faster for me to use my own laptop and find flights via their website! During the 2 hours I waited in line, the "open seats for several planes" had been sold. I asked to be put on standby, and the agent responded, "We don't do standby flights to Chicago." Huh? I asked her to check again, and after 1 minute, she confirmed that she COULD do standby flights. (WTF.) To add insult to injury, the ticket agent charged me $75 for the flight change and before I even had a chance to grumble, she said, "We don't have sympathy for charging this fee because you should have arrived on time for your first flight." Are you kidding me? Luckily, I was able to board the plane for Chicago. Given how unbelievably inconvenient and stupid my trip had been so far, I was hardly surprised when I found that my bag had been lost during transit. I was connecting to a flight to New York (through another airline), and had intended to grab my bag and re-check it before boarding my next plane. I discussed my concerns at the Air Canada desk in Chicago, then in NYC, and was told the bag could be forwarded to my final destination (thankfully, their American agents seemed less hostile, but as it turns out, equally incompetent). After arriving in NYC, I contacted their baggage hotline (a call center in India) and was informed that they had NO claim on file for a lost bag. (Even though the process of filing the claim at their NYC desk had taken approximately 30 minutes.) During the next few days, I repeatedly checked in with the call center with varying success in terms of locating my bag (exceptionally long holds, unhelpful/nebulous responses by their baggage agents, etc.). Finally, the bag arrived at LaGuardia Airport and I made the trek to pick it up myself. Today (a week later), I checked my bank account and saw that Air Canada incorrectly charged my account for the fees associated with travel (my receipts don't match the charges on my account). I've put in yet another claim with the company, which I'm informed could take "up to 3 weeks to process." Avoid this company unless you want to be locked in a hostage situation with no hope of resolving issues on flight changes, lost baggage, and incorrect bank charges. read more

I had to update this. I just looked into flights to Hong Kong. Air Canabis offers a flight that changes planes in *Frankfurt* with a 10 hour layover making the best travel time over 30 hours using Aeroplan. But if you choose the "Classic Plus" option, you can get a direct flight that takes 15 hours. The catch: it costs 181,000 points instead of 75,000 points. So I need to spend $181,000 on my Aerogold Visa to get an Aeroplan ticket for a direct flight. The Visa Merchant charge of 2.5 percent on average adds up to $4,500 Alternatively, I can buy a non-stop ticket for cash on Cathay Pacific for about $1900, or on Air Canada for $2,600. Incidentally, if you use Avion Visa, a non-stop flight is 150,000 points, 30,000 less than Aeroplan. No blackouts and no games. Time to switch all of my corporate purchases to the Avion card and let the Aerogold Visa collect dust... read more

Due to a severe traffic jam I arrived only one hour and 45 minutes before an international flight. The self check in machines would not check me in. I then wasted 30 minutes after being placed in the wrong check in line by an AC employee who told me not to worry Ill make my flight. After lining up again and again being reassured I would make the flight I finally got to the counter approximately 1 hour before boarding was to start and was told that the flight was now closed. I had missed check in by 5 minutes they said. After calmly explaining my situation and the fact I was sent to the wrong line the counter staff who were eating doughnuts and drinking coffee (not kidding here) while checking people in said there was nothing they could do. I reminded them that I was an AC frequent flyer and the lady said and Ill quote her verbatim "That means nothing dear". Wow, just wow. Then one of them made the mistake of saying the flight was full anyways. Wait a minute. That meant that AC waits until just before a flight and then sells off your ticket if you don't check in well over an hour before your flight. Thats why the machine wouldn't check me when I got there as the ticket was already sold off. Due to the no refund policy I was forced to rebook for the next days flight at the cost of an additional $150 rebooking fee plus the flight the next day was $140 more than what I had originally booked. Nice rip off. Bottom line is AC has the worst customer service ever as they didn't even make an effort to get me on the flight because they had already SOLD MY SEAT before I even got to the airport. You will find far better service on the TTC or GO train than you will with a $1200 ticket on this airline. I used to fly AC about 4-6 times a year and now I fly them ZERO times a year. Way to go AC, great job by your surly staff at screwing frequent customers. read more

An email response to an automated email it got from air Canada's customer relations. Julie Edwards, Forgive me if this sounds krass but are you kidding me?? You're telling me that based on millions of bookings made every year that these bookings are just pure estimations? I'm a traveller. I travel often and quite enjoy both the trip there and time I spend away. I, in all my years have never had a flight moved to another day. An hour here or there but never another day. And especially not on Christmas day. You, three weeks out moved my flight and cost me hours frustration, stress, anxiety, loss of valuable time with my family whom I don't live near. Due to my lack of flexibility around the holidays I couldn't meet YOUR requirements. Your offer of compensation is a joke and you know it. I have had airlines screw things up doing much less and been more understanding and compensating than your 15% coupon. I paid almost double to fly with you guys then what I could have with other airlines. I hope you never book a flight with hopes of flying that same day. That would just be ludicrous. Keep your coupon Julie. I'm insulted. And I actually liked Air Canada. Thanks for making it worse. By the way, your auto response email couldn't sound any more general and impersonal. I really liked flying Air Canada from London to Columbus until I got to Canada and that just ruined my entire experience. I had a flight departed London with a 2 hour layover in Toronto and then on to Columbus. When my flight left London late, I was worried about making my connecting flight on time. I spoke to an air hostess and she assured me that there would be enough time. But I kept my eye on the clock. The time when we were supposed to land came and went and with 45 minutes left until my 2nd flight was scheduled to depart I asked her again if she thought I would make it. This time she got angry and told me that there was no way she could know. I asked if there was anything she could do (like calling ahead checking on the flight. Was it running late too?) and she said no. And then suggested that when I got off this flight TO RUN. That really comforts a person. So I get off the flight. I run. I get to baggage claim because I have to get my bags, go through customs, recheck in, then make it to my gate. All in 30 minutes. All the other passengers at baggage claim knew my situation and were cheering me on. But the baggage claim best was empty. Nothing. Not a single bag. Other passengers were starting to get antsy too. 15 mintues left to catch my flight and a group of us went over to the help desk to find out what the hold-up was and to check on my flight. She called to check on my flight and it had left. 15 minutes early. Gone. I was told I had to collect my bags, go back out and go to the ticketing desk where, when I arrived, there were 2 staff members and about 50 people waiting to be helped. Then the best/worst part. She blamed me for missing my connecting flight. She lectured me that I needed to be more careful and check-in earlier. I was in shock. The man next to me listening convinced her to give me a voucher for a hotel room since the next flight wasn't until the next morning because she wasn't even going to do that. The voucher even read - AVOIDABLE MISSED CONNECTION. I kept trying to figure out how I could have avoided what happened. I realize I should have fought back but I was just too tired and too amazed to say anything but that experience has just ruined flying Air Canada for me. read more

I just wanted to write a little review and say how amazing my flight was on Thursday, Oct 10th, from LAX to Toronto, on Air Canada flight 792. The crew was so helpful, kind, and accommodating! I would like to give a specific thank you to Helen and Corine, for all the amazing service they did with a smile, throughout the entire flight. They both didn't stop for a minute! They were both just on their feet making sure everyone was happy and comfortable! I really appreciate how accommodating they were to my wife and my kids! We were very nervous about traveling with the kids because it's a long flight and all, but we were much more calm with the amazing service we recieved with a smile on the flight! Thank you Air Canada, the flight crew and flight attendants from Flight 792 , on Oct 10th traveling from LAX to Toronto! Thanks for making it a smooth and easy flight for my family, and everyone else on board! read more

BULLSH** excuse for an airline. I flew Air Canada from Toronto Pearson to La Guardia, New York. This was supposed to be an early morning flight 7 AM. As an international flight that was only like an hour long. I honestly don't know where things went wrong. Oh wait, they went wrong since I arrived at Toronto Pearson. Well when we first got through the doors there wasn't any signage or airline attendants/representatives in immediate sight even the at the kiosks so we went to a computerized one. Well since we were a group of 8, someone had to type in all our information and swipe in our passports. Well half way through the process an attendant finally approaches us and tells us the computerized kiosks we were using was for domestic flight only. GAH. So we walk over to another Air Canada terminal section and decide screw it let's get in line to an actual attendant. Well after waiting in line they do the standard, printing of tickets, measuring baggage, etc. but instead of placing my baggage on a conveyor... they didn' t take our baggage. YUP. I hauled my CHECK-IN LUGGAGE and carry-on through the entire airport, customs line and dropped it off right before security check-in which there was no signage to say go to the baggage drop off first so the guards were yelling at us to drop off our baggage first. UGH. Yup, I paid $25 for my suitcase to be dropped off by ME. BULLSH**! And to add insult to injury the Customs Line computers were down for a good two hours. So even though we got there 4 hours before our flight we almost missed it because of this. The great thing about Air Canada is when we arrived at the gate they held our flight to wait for us, the bad thing...the gate attendent tells US to come early to avoid situations like this...really, Air Canada/Toronto Pearson? How about you turn your damn computers on. Plus the salt on the wound...the XM radio on Air Canada flights suck, the music album choices didn't even have American Top 40 on it except for Rihanna. Plus, the turbulence on the flight made it impossible for the Air Canada to pass out snacks or drinks. So no food!!!! And you know how I paid $25 bucks for me to drop off my own luggage? Well they left my luggage at Toronto Pearson. The message from Toronto Pearson/Air Canada said it would arrive on the next flight and it should arrive late same day. Well I was stuck on 3 of the 5 days of my New York City vacation with out my luggage. YUP. I had to buy new clothes and all the other beauty stuff I needed. Plus, it rained the whole first day I was in NYC so I had no change of clothes that night when I arrived at the hotel. Air Canada didn't want to reimburst me for the handler fee or tell me when my luggage was actually going to arrive. I'm just thankful it finally did. Seriously Air Canada...step your game up in this economy and get your SH** together!!! read more

Air Canada has always annoyed me with their lack of customer service skills in-flight but they annoyed me at every level of service on my trip last weekend. I arrived at the airport at 4 am and tried to use the check in kiosk. It said no and directed me to the counter agent. I wait in line for ten minutes and some employee comes up and asks which flight I am there for. I tell her and she says "It's cancelled, call this toll free number and see if they can help you" and hands me a pamphlet. Lovely. I'm a Wind customer and was outside the Wind network so I asked if there was a phone I could use. She points to the corner and says "there". Uh huh. I call the number, wait on hold for 20 minutes and am then informed I will leave three hours later and can check-in now. Oh good. I'll just hang around the airport for 4 hours with no money. It's not like my time is valuable or anything and I definitely DON'T need a beverage while I wait. I go to check in my bags and the attendant looks at my boarding passes and is like "Just to let you know you are cutting it way too close with your times for your connecting flights." So I'm like what the hell? Your guy on the phone set this up. She then says "Oh, it's ok. You'll be fine." Uh huh. So we board the plane finally, 10 minutes late, then sit on the runway for 30 extra minutes. Finally take off. Get to Montreal five minutes before the connecting flight is set to leave. The cabin crew reassures us there is somebody right outside the door to direct us to our connecting flights right away. Sounds good. Of course there is no employee to direct us. We stumble around the airport trying to find our connections blindly (no gates listed on the boarding passes we were issued). Finally arrive as the plane is ready to take off. They don't let us on. Direct us to the service desk. Wait in line for 30 minutes. Finally get scheduled on another flight half an hour later. Get to Toronto over four hours late. Throughout the entire ordeal not one employee said "Sorry". In the extended waiting time in airports not even a glass of water was offered. Apparently Air Canada doesn't give a flying fudge stick who they inconvenience. If I'd been 4 hours late, though, you can bet they'd charge me a $75 change fee for inconveniencing them. They should take a lesson from Via Rail, a company which also sucks, but which apologized profusely, offers free food and drinks, and issues travel credits. Freebies are nice, but not required. If the first employee had said "I'm sorry to say that the flight has been cancelled. I know this is inconvenient but let us help you get this resolved" my experience may have been completely different. Oh, and I think it is completely disgusting they only allow credit cards for on-board purchases. I know more than one person who doesn't have access to credit. But they should probably just be allowed to starve because they are less than human. Mmm hmm. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. Oh Air Canada, why are you so incompetent? I book travel for my office on the regular. Air Canada has a monopoly for Business Class flights within Canada, so I have no choice but to use them. You book a fully refundable fare and they refuse to issue refunds unless you call their RUDE customer service line. One such ticket was not refunded for 3 MONTHS. I made a complaint for that one through the Better Business Bureau, who are a bunch of spineless morons and did nothing for me. Evidently as a business listed on their site you can refuse to have any dealings with them. What is the point of them then? I will never book Air Canada for my own travel, I deal with them enough forcefully for work and it's just too painful. read more

The short version: AirCanada has the worst customer service ever! I feel dismissed, unaccounted for, and unfairly treated for a mistake on their end of customer service. If you actually care for quality in customer service, avoid AirCanada. If you don't expect much, and literally want a mode of transportation to get you from point A to B, then go ahead. (But I'm sure there are better options out there). Long version: I had a flight from Vegas to Toronto on June 29th. When I got to the airport that day about 80 minutes before my flight, I couldn't find a single representative at the counter. The AirCanada website was down the whole day, so I wasn't able to check in online throughout the day (which is supposedly available up to 60 minutes prior to my flight). I got a hold of a representative via the airport help phone after being on hold for ten minutes. Not only was the rep not able to help me check in or get a rep at the McCarran airport to help me, he was not accommodating and rude. Aircanada was going to charge me $400 extra to change my fare, even though my whole trip was only $500 to begin with. When I questioned the rep asking if it would be cheaper to buy a new ticket from another airline instead of paying the fee for fare change, the rep responded, "No one is stopping you." I've sent a complaint online, explaining the whole situation, but all I got was a restatement of their cut off time for checking in from their websites. They disregarded how I was mistreated by the rep on the phone and didn't acknowledge the negligence of having someone at the counter when customers are still checking in. Their email reply to my complaint was very degrading as well. I have never been so unhappy with a company before! I have to admit, I was a loyal customer before, despite their rude and inattentive flight attendants. I've never really had an issue with ground service or checking in. However, when there is a problem, Air Canada will not own up to their internal issues and blame the customers. It seems like they are not afraid to lose a customer here and there. I am sad to say I will avoid AirCanada at all cost from now on. If I could, it gets no stars. read more

Easy to navigate and even easier to find the car rentals. I flew into this airport for business. It's clean and very easy to get out of. Coming back through customs was a little more difficult and stressful. (I was flying internationally.) Overall it could have been worse. I'm giving four stars because of the easy navigation within the airport, the cleanliness and food options. read more

If there were a negative star review, Air Canada would earn it. It started with a delay in San Francisco. Mine and my daughter's overnight flight to Toronto was delayed, which meant we would miss our connecting flight in the morning. I asked if it would be rebooked, and the gate agent in SF assured me I'd be on the nine o'clock flight out of Toronto on to my final destination. I paid for the Preferred Economy. Not worth the money, you only get extra legroom. On other airlines like JetBlue or Virgin, it gets you faster service. Also, I think even regular economy on those airlines get things like hot water for tea and coffee, some decent food selection (everything was out on the flight), water to wash your hands with. Is it even legal to run a flight where there is no water out of the tap in the bathroom? That's something I'd think would happen with some Central Asian airline with the local dictator's face on the livery, not in North America, but, eh, standards are obviously slipping. The in-flight entertainment was a joke... I mean, it's so slow you get hour glass timers. Maybe it's meant as some cool retro feature, but I kind of doubt it. And then upon my delayed arrival to Toronto, my suitcase and daughter's car seat have disappeared into the ether, we are put on an early evening flight (we arrive in Toronto at 7:15 am) where we are in different rows. The agent refuses to change the seat assignment (I'm sure it would be a joy for a random stranger to deal with my four year old throwing a tantrum or demanding to go potty!) and offers a meal voucher. While airlines like Spirit or RyanAir are no frills, Air Canada is going one better - no frills AND no competency. Seriously, this is one steaming fecal matter of an airline. AVOID! read more

My first one star review and it is very well deserved. Imagine airline executives creating an airline whose sole purpose it was to make customers never want to fly on that airline again. This must have been the idea behind Rouge Airlines. I went on a trip to Canada with my family, and booked with Air Canada, as that was the only practical choice connecting us from San Diego to Quebec City. The only option from Toronto to SD was "Rouge", which I understood to be Air Canada's discount airline. No big deal, as I envisioned Southwest Airlines....not a problem. The service was okay. The FA's were friendly enough, but it appeared they were demoralized by having to work on Rouge instead of Air Canada. Old planes, no technology...Nothing I can't deal with...I've got a great book to read. My biggest beef and a deal killer was the amount (or lack thereof) of legroom...there wasn't any. Imagine the least legroom you've ever had on a flight, and lop another 4 inches off. That is the amount of legroom you get with Rouge. I'm 6'2" so I get the fact that economy class is not going to be luxurious experience for me. That being said, I could barely fit in my seat because my knees were dug into the seat in front of me. The only way I could sit was by putting my legs in front of my wife's seat. This is in contrast with our Air Canada flights on this trip, which were pleasant, and had a very comfortable amount of legroom. I have no idea what Air Canada was thinking creating this airline. They are tarnishing the Air Canada name with this inferior (and apparently not even less expensive) product. I am not exaggerating by saying I would drive from San Diego to Quebec next time before setting foot on Rouge again. Unless you are under 5 feet tall, don't even think about flying on Rouge. read more

OK, I'm going to come right out and say it; I like Air Canada. I fly a lot. A LOT. Now, to be fair, judging Air Canada in comparison to other NORTH AMERICAN airlines, they come out pretty favorably. The other disclaimer here is that when I do those long hauls it is primarily in executive class. By primarily, I mean always. As with any other airline - there are tricks and secrets that tilt the power of balance slightly more towards the favour of the consumer. With some diligent research, you can find most of these on the net. Some things you may not have known about Air Canada: * It carries more passengers annually than the entire population of Canada * It is ranked as the second safest airline in the world * It won North American Airline of the year 2 years running * It is the most flexible carrier, in terms of routing, to fly an around the world fare (Star Alliance or otherwsie) Don't get me wrong - If I have a choice between AC and Singapore, Cathay, Air New Zealand, Emirates, etc. etc. all they are going to see is a ripple of electrons where my reservation used to be -- -- but when one has to originate from the US, for example, headed to Europe and it's not possible to do so without a stop - Air Canada is quite a viable option. So, I would like to propose a new marketing slogan; AIR CANADA; You could do a lot worse. read more

I just flew from Phoenix to Toronto on what I thought was Air Canada. Actually, it was the low rent subsidiary Rouge. I know airlines are getting stingier with the amenities offered to travelers. Rouge takes it to a new level, anybody over 5'4" will feel like their knees are around their ears, the seats have little, if any, cushioning and they are cheap with the beverages. If you want a bag of potato chips, get out the credit card! The flight attendants were nice enthusiastic young ladies who very were pleasant. The flight itself was smooth, but uncomfortable due to the tiny seats, little leg room and meager padding. I get carriers need to make money, but do they have to make flying a completely unpleasant experience in the process for travelers? Tip: Don't fall for first class on Rouge. The same crummy seats are used, a tick more legroom (2-4 inches maybe) is given and a nice red curtain is provided to distinguish it from coach. Is it worth the cost of upgrade? NOPE!!! read more

I've never had such difficulty with flying..... It's caribana weekend, my girlfriends and I are flying with air canada to Toronto 7/30. There's a group of us flying and we need to get to Toronto, our hotel stay our car rental our pick up for costumes as masqueraders the parties everything starts tonight....no there's nothing we can do except refund you your money and you can outsource another company flying to canada....EXCUSE ME!!?? Air Canada, you are beginning to impress me with your service. While I am NOT a fan of the roll-backs of general airlines I AM generally pleased when airlines keep it together in terms of: -being nice yeah..that's it. I'm a fairly low maintenance customer. Now No north amercian airline will EVER compare to japan or singapore air- but at least aircanada has stepped up their game (in comparison to westjet) and provided plans with movies, plugs, etc AND heightened their standards on being nice. A few years ago I went straight to Westjet for my north amer flights. For the last 2 years I have consistently taken Air can. good work, Aircanada- you have successfully (almost) made me forget how BAD you were before. read more

If this were 2 years ago, I would have 1 starred you. But you know what, you're not that bad when compared to some of the other North American lines. Delta and American Airlines, I'm looking at you. Over the past year, I've noticed a change in your traditionally surly, rude, unionized and entitled staff. Granted, I don't interact with them much. I keep my earphones in. I check in online. I don't check baggage. But when I do have a bag, sometimes, they actually smile. Every once in a while the gate agents doesn't "huff" at me when I ask a question. And once, I even got a free glass of wine on a flight. I honestly didn't think that was real, or possible. I was floored by this show of care. It turned out to be the flight attendant hitting on me, but so what? It was the kindest thing that has ever happened to me on Air Canada, and I've been flying with them my whole life. But honestly, I think what's made all the difference, is your Twitter handle. @aircanada gets stuff done. They have found me a seat on a plane--that I had paid well in advance for--when gate agents have told me I'd been put on standby. They've been kind enough to find out answers to my questions about their points program, again when gate agents have scoffed and told me to go look it up myself. Basically, their twitter handle has changed Air Canada for me, calming me down when a real life interaction with a gate agent is souring. Making me smile when I land from a flight to see I've been heard by someone in your organization. Thank you @aircanada. You truly rule. read more

At its best, its a mediocre airline, at its worst (or its typical) it can be infuriating. Its better than airlines in the States, and some airlines in underdeveloped markets, but its by no means a good airline. Food is dreck, and the service poor. You won't ever be impressed, and you'll probably be furious with them at one point if you travel. I've flown dozens of times, domestic and international, and I have trouble singling out a singularly good experience. They aren't efficient, friendly, helpful but they aren't unusually incompetent. Given a choice, I would not pick Air Canada over another airline, but if I have to fly it, I'll manage. Bring your own food, have low expectations and the patience of Job if you are going to fly Air Canada. read more

I saw an ad at Waterfront Station (Vancouver) that all seats have electric outlets, but thought "yeah... on 'some' planes". But my flight the next week had them! Also on the way back (interational). They were located on the back of the headrest of the seat in front of you. There was only one normal outlet for 2 passengers, but one USB port for each (which is what I needed for my iPhone, anyways). I was happy that I got to listen to podcasts without having to worry about the maps I'll be needing when I land. My favourite thing about this flight was the e-check-in when departing from Vancouver. When I used their iPhone app, I even got my boarding pass on my device, so all I had to do at the airport was hand in my check-in luggage. Coming back, though, I could only go as far as confirming my seat, and had to get the boarding pass at the airport. (I went to the machine and got it. Then I tried to drop off my check-in luggage. But I was told to get in the same lineup as everyone else. So I don't really understand if there was a point for me to spend the extra time doing the other stuff.) The food was OK. I was most impressed with the second meal outbound: Beef stew with mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes actually had potato chunks in it, unlike reconstituted powder stuff. I was least impressed with one of the meals inbound: a somewhat flavoured rice thing with salmon on it. It didn't have enough flavour, not even salt. I was glad that I could use my own earphones for the entertainment system (is that normal nowadays?). The touch-panel system gave me no problems, and it had tons of choices, had I wanted to watch things the whole fight. Their mileage plan, Aeroplan, isn't particularly awesome but pretty good. The miles don't expire as long as you earn/use some miles per year (I think), and that doesn't need to be because of flights. It's easy to earn miles at Esso, Home Hardware, with Tropicana or Quakers, etc. read more

This airline is garbage. I do not understand how a reservation based company can't get it right and completely cancel a flight without having any backup plans or later flights. I know this happens, but because they didn't sell enough seats the ruined hundreds of peoples plans. This is like a movie theater not selling enough seats or a football game not selling enough seats and just canceling everything. Why is it only the airline industry can get away with S&^%tty service like this?!!! Air Canada you now rank right up there with ambulance chasing lawyers and used car salesmen. I will never buy from your company again. read more

I booked a flight for 12/16/16 to go to Niagra Falls, and when I went I got there, someone told me my flight was delayed the next day. The next day when I got there, it was again delayed to the next hour. I go to a lot of business trips, and this there are delays every Air Canada flight. read more

WORST AIRLINE EVER !! AVOID They ruined my luggage. They didnt reimburse me for the extra money I paid for preferred seat. They dont reply to my emails and the employees even talking bad about their supervisors saying that most likely I was not going ti get a hotel room since there was delay ... because the supervisor is sassy. Poorly customer service, they dont seem to care or understand at all ... read more

It is not a bad airline, but it is expensive for what it offers. I flew AC in the last 2 months within Canada, and to the US, both economy and business class. The economy class experience, especially for a long flight like Toronto - San Francisco was not the most pleasant. The fact that they don't even offer a free cracker/peanut on a 5 1/2 - hours flight is not flattering for AC. I understand the need to be efficient, but while the passengers are spending lots of hours boarding, flying, and disembarking, a small snack would be a nice gesture. Also, it is important that the pilots have some customer service skills. I flew to Calgary with a pilot informing us about the flight conditions every hour or so. It was so reassuring to hear a voice from the cockpit telling you about the flight. When I returned from Calgary to Toronto, the pilot did not even say "good evening." Combine that with a bumpy flight and a fast descent and you realize why we should not have grumpy pilots... I gave three stars because the business class service is quite good, comparable with any major airline. read more

This airline is THE ABSOLUTE WORST AIRLINE I HAVE FLOWN IN MY LIFE! The last time I was on an Air Canada flight was in 2008, and to this day I have never forgot how TERRIBLE AND RUDE the flight attendants were. First off, I was 23 years old well over the drinking age. I ordered a beer for the flight, and the flight attendant then looked over at my mother ( who was flying with me) and asked her if I could have a drink. WTF?! I showed this crazy b*tch my ID like 5 times and she still refused me a beer. I was horrified by the service and all the other flight attendants, because I asked a few other flight attendants and they as well denied me. Nice & courteous eh?? Fly air canada! ME THINKS NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!! FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL P.S- Did everyone hear on the news how this airline trashed someones bag?! They didnt even say in their press release that the employee was fired. They were investigating. Me, if I was at the top of air Canada Id fire his or hers ass for making my company look retarded. read more

Worst international service ever. Wife and I flew from LAX to Tel Aviv, Israel via Toronto. Check in at Los Angeles was disorganized and slow and that was before their computer system went down. Flight left LAX one hour late. The flight from Toronto to Tel Aviv was delayed anyway. On the LAX to Toronto leg of the trip, we had a flight attendant who had an attitude when I asked him if he could take my water cup. My wife and I flew back on separate days. My flight from Tel Aviv to Toronto was late and I almost missed my connecting flight to LAX. The day my wife flew out of Tel Aviv, the flight was way behind schedule. She missed her connecting flight in Toronto, ended up getting to LAX after midnight instead of of 8:36 PM. This was our first time to try Air Canada. Looks like it will be the last. read more

Worst checkin experience ever at the Toronto Airport!!! I don't know why they make you go through the kiosk first then check in your bags, the kiosk operating system is like circa blackberry!!! The system doesn't work and it's terribly slow, it would be more efficient if there were service workers at the counter rather than sending people to these obsolete piece of technology. So many people were angry checking in for their flights... some were cutting in close with less than half an hour left getting their bags and tickets. Plus people had to go through security, this inefficient layout to checking in sucks!!! I had better at small tier airport who were able to process people faster. read more

Please fly with someone else!! Our gate was moved about three times. I heard an air Canada agent respond rudely to a customer who only wanted confirmation of the new gate. Our flight was delayed and to top it off they overbooked the flight. Highly disappointed. read more

My parents were flying to China...through a Canadian airline oddly enough. I've heard great things about Canada and their people. They must have staffed this plane with a bunch of racists from the deep South. I generally look forward to non-US flights, because service is generally better. Actually, it's always better. American airlines are just awful for the most part. So while hoping to have a nice meal. They gave my dad a "Cup'o Noodles". Like seriously. That's kind of insulting to all Chinese food places, even the terrible ones (Read my Howard China Review). My dad, having lost his appetite, didn't eat the food, and when they came by for trash, he tossed it in there...because it's trash. They then proceeded to call my dad difficult and all sorts of nonsense. Now to be fair, my dad can be difficult at times. This was not one of them. Never again. I'd rather fly Spirit. Hahaha, I'm just kidding. Spirit is awful too. I'm just gonna drive. read more

They lost my bag. The agent when I arrived at my destination implied it was not placed on my transfer flight but they knew where it was and would have it at my hostel shortly. Time passed, when it didn't arrive I had to contact Air Canada again. I explicitly asked if my baggage had been located. Instead of giving a straight response, I was sent a form for a claim for a lost bag. I contacted them on numerous occasions in regards to this matter and rarely received a response. I was overseas for two weeks with nothing but my carry on bag and the clothes on my back. I bought a suit for a wedding. I bought everything I needed to get by. I went home, filled out the form, attached documentation and mailed it where Air Canada wanted me to for claims. About a MONTH after my luggage was originally lost, I got an email about Air Canada sending a package to my residence. They had recovered my luggage and mailed it to my place. I sent another inquiry as I was concerned that they would reject my lost luggage compensation claim over this, and at this point it had taken them so long to get my bag back that the deadline to submit for expenses due to *delayed* luggage had already passed. They again did not respond to my inquiry. I was working when the delivery was attempted, and then it was placed at a UPS site across the city from my (downtown) apartment. I had to spend time and money on transportation to recover my luggage, just as I had had to spend money and precious vacation time shopping to replace the items they had lost. No compensation and they ignore every inquiry of mine. No response to the claim because the luggage was "found." No chance of a claim for delayed luggage because they waited until the deadline had elapsed to send me back my missing luggage. Awful. read more

Air Canada was wonderful 10 years ago when our Southwest trip was cancelled due to ice. They accommodated us on Air Canada for their next flight (although I'm sure Southwest had to pay). But our trip from Laguardia to Toronto was a nightmare. I checked in the night before with no issues, even got the seats assigned. When we showed up at the airport 2 hours before our flight it was cancelled, no explanation given. As is Air Canada's policy, we were put on the next available flight that left an hour later. On our way to security we noticed that my husband did not have a boarding pass, so back to the counter we went. While waiting for the flight, we noticed that the gate signs were wrong, causing confusion for everyone. Fortunately there were some announcements to alleviate some of this confusion. The plane was late, again no explanation. The skies were grey but no lightning or rain. Because of this we had 1/2 hour to get to our connecting flight. We were rushed off the plane, ran through Customs only to wait for our baggage, nice. I would like to point out that there were NO Air Canada representatives to assist those who had connecting flights, not one single person along the process to ensure we made it on time (even though they announced there would be). We got our bags, ran to baggage drop off then proceeded to security - one line and it took forever. I asked the security about catching our connector, showed my boarding pass and she said we would have no problems, wrong. Got through security and ran from one end of the terminal to get to the gate. Naturally, we missed our flight. What makes it worse is the Air Canada rep at the counter said we should have tried harder. Really? It's my fault there wasn't a representative available to assist all those with connecting flights? We were put on stand by for the next available flight and arrived home 4 hours after our original booked time. I sent an email to their corporate offices and, of course, their VP of Customer Service had his Call Centre Manager contact me. I guess the VPs don't like to deal with customer issues. The Call Centre Manager then passed me off to Customer Service. If you read the BBB reviews (F rating) you will understand why I was insulted. To make a long story shorter, I was able to get a refund for my upcoming Rouge flight to Maui. I will never fly Air Canada again and definitely hope the Federal Government doesn't give them any more financial assistance. read more

First a flight cancellation, we were informed about on the actual plane. Then we waited 6 exciting hours at the airport while another route was found. Arriving in Europe late, we found our bags had not caught up with us. Next day they arrived with several items broken or destroyed. After a lengthy claim filling out scads of paperwork, no compensation was ever offered. Air Canada official morons saying maybe I should have packed better. Also, if you've ever taken one of their "air buses" on a short trip and survived, consider yourself fortunate. Air Canada needs real competition to take away business they do not deserve. In such a wonderful country, such a horrible airline, should be very ashamed of themselves. read more

Nearly two months later I received a reply from Air Canada. They were sorry and would like to give me 15% off a full fare ticket if I book it in the next 2 weeks. Very generous. Ha Ha. I declined their offer and told them I would never fly Air Canada again. read more

This airline is totally incompetent - they seem utterly disorganized. They admitted that we sat on the tarmac for 2 hours because they were short staffed and couldn't fill out paperwork. read more
