(Traveled 09/15/25 MO @ 12:50pm): No porters were needed on this airline! I recently flew one-way with Porter Airlines from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to visit a dear friend and our lil' black beast. An apparent airline partner with Alaska Airlines, the company was founded in 2006 by Robert Deluce. They focused on an upscale regional model initially within the Province of Ontario with planes that omitted middle seats, offered complimentary beer and wine regardless of international flight or not, and eventually expanded into Eastern Canada and bordering United States major cities, such as Boston, Chicago, and New York. Today, they are Canada's 3rd largest airline, flew domestically coast-to-coast, and continued to expand into the continental U.S.. Would I consider this airline important enough to continue using it if they offered a needed travel route!? PURCHASE(S) One-Way PorterClassic Fare ($161.54): Nowadays, I booked one-way flights because I usually had more flexibility when I needed to return. Since I booked the flight less than four weeks before its departure, I was kind of screwed for international air travel on short notice versus during a certain travel season. On an afternoon direct flight that arrived in Newark around 2:20pm the same day, it barely allowed me to enjoy the complimentary snacks... which I was fine with. Checked Luggage (Varied; N/A this instance): A budget airline that had various tiered baggage AND carry-on fees (which airline didn't these days?), the ticket I purchased "included" one carry-on bag. I honestly had no idea how much they charged. I traveled very light, especially for a quick trip such as this, so I only had a carry-on and backpack. FLIGHT EXPERIENCE ~Check-in: I checked-in online 24-hours prior, downloaded their QR code boarding pass into my Google Wallet, and traveled with only a carry-on and backpack, so I was ready to go! I had Global Entry & TSA PreCheck, so my time with security checkpoints and the necessary TSA pleasantries was efficient and minimal. When it was time, passengers were queued-up in order of their boarding group (I couldn't remember the sequencing). The flight literally arrived shortly after it departed. ~Seat(s): 19B Aisle - Come on, it was the same sardine can like all airplanes these days. I always favored a window seat towards the back of the plane close to the restroom and snacks. Alas, my aisle seat allowed me to stretch my legs a bit more. ~In-flight Meals (Varied; FREE this instance): They offered complimentary beer, wine, and snacks, so I ordered a beer I've never had before (Moosehead Breweries Cracked Canoe Ultra Premium Light Beer 3.5% ABV 12floz Can), and some salted almonds. I was just stoked for the free beer! ~Lavatory: I'd done my business at the terminal before we left, so I had no idea of the condition of the restroom closest to me. ~Service & Amenities: All uniformly-dressed flight attendants were adequate and spoke perfect English. None of the seats had video monitors for movie/show watching, music listening, and games playing. The seats themselves were roomy enough, and this particular plane (De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft) had no middle seats. No blankets, headphones, or pillows were provided. The drink/snack cart rolled out shortly after the plane leveled off after takeoff. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): There were parking structures with both short- and long-term options. However, this airport had a very good transit system that consisted of buses, taxi cab service, and Lyft or Uber stations. So, why would you park!? But, if you needed to park a vehicle, hourly rates up to a 2-hour maximum were about $5.00CAD per 20 minutes. Daily rates from self-parking to valet started from $35.00CAD and up. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE With only a lone passenger terminal, I departed out of Gate 10 where there were limited eateries and duty-free shops around, and few flight monitors along the way. There were sufficient places to sit in the terminal with plenty of natural and electric lighting. Once on the airplane, this was what I called a "puddle-jumper" - small, turboprop, and felt every air pocket and bump in the sky. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. I liked to be unencumbered and unfettered, so the least amount of clothing, especially while I traveled through an airport, the better! OVERALL My one-way non-stop flight on Porter Airlines out of Toronto (YTZ) was fine and got me to Newark (EWR) safely which truthfully was all that mattered to me on any flights. I wished there were seat video monitors that helped pass the time. However, I'd fly with them again. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $162.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). I like Porter. They're nice, they're low-key, they treat their passengers well. It's a small airline and they really do their best. Our flight to Calgary on Westjet (ugh) proves just how far BEHIND Canadian carriers are in terms of Customer Service and professionalism. Air Canada too, sucks, based on my numerous experiences. For a teeny tiny little airline, they make it a tolerable and easy flying experience. Seat quality and amenities are budget tier. read more

Flew internationally with porter out of Pearson for first time. Wife had to use wheelchair service for first time. Went well after a 10 min wait someone showed up took us through customs straight to the gate. Then another person showed up to wheel her to the planes door. All very smooth and everyone very pleasant. Plane was clean, but washroom floor was wet. Stews were great. We had upgraded to more legroom which also included a meal. Bonus points for meal. Cold breakfast, see pics, it was excellent. The bonus points were for not a single piece of plastic. I was surprised at the amount people taking advantage of the free liquor at 10:30 am. Also included in fare was priority luggage unloading. I literally was among the last 2 dozen of passengers to finally get our luggage. Only place where the ball was dropped. read more

A master class in how not to run an airline. Porter Airlines repeatedly disrupted our travel plans, canceling multiple flights with no notice and rebooking us without consultation or consent. It took considerable effort to experience the misery of a Porter flight -- not for lack of trying, but because they seem unable to operate a reliable schedule. Billy Bishop Airport is efficient and well-managed -- a credit to its staff and infrastructure, but not because of Porter, whose presence there does little but damage the airport's reputation. Our most recent cancellation jeopardized a long-awaited visit with my 96-year-old mother. That's not just inconvenient -- it's deeply upsetting. Calling their customer service was equally disheartening. After a long hold, I was met with indifference and robotic policy recitation. The representative showed no empathy and offered no viable solutions. The interaction left me feeling dismissed and powerless. This is not a trustworthy airline. Between their erratic operations and their tone-deaf support, it's clear they're unprepared to serve passengers with even basic reliability or decency. Book with Porter only if you're comfortable gambling with your time, your money, and your peace of mind. I won't make that mistake again. Flying for the first time with Porter Airlines gave me a pleasant experience. A little hiccup with 45 mins delayed to and from my Vancouver trip is not of a big deal. The comfort of the airlines smaller planes gives us a relaxed atmosphere like, seats are either window or aisle only. And overhead bins are more spacious and less crowded compared to larger aircraft. I enjoyed their complimentary in-flight amenities such as free snacks ( beans, cookies or nuts ) and beverages even some alcohol drinks they serve is free! Also we enjoyed the free wifi while up in the air. Do note that there's no PTV's (personal television) so you'll use your own device to access their complimentary wifi. Two lavatory one at the front and the other located at the end of the plane so if you're in a middle seat its bit of a trip. Both on the ground and in the air staff are very attentive, very professional and friendly. Overall, my Porter experience is great and will book here again. Highly recommended. read more

The part I really dislike about Porter is that unlike other airlines, they force all passengers to listen to the age old pre-flight safety instructions. On a normal US airline, you get on, put on your headphones, put on a mask and go to sleep (if you're tired). Porter? They'll tap on you and then scold you to listen to the pre-flight safety instructions (each time!) plus give you a mean look. Horrible way to start a trip, especially for an experienced flyer that already knows the safety tips by heart. Not the case on other airlines. Deluce family is also very profit driven/greedy and price gouged when Air Canada was on strike, easily doubling the cost of flights. read more

Took a quick flight from Chicago to Toronto and for a budget airline it was ok. My biggest issue was that you have to check in at the ticket counter and they state that they're supposed to arrive 2 hours before boarding time unfortunately that's not true. They were 45 minutes late while the line was already wrapped around. I also only brought a backpack and they tried to charge me for it even though it fit in the area where they check the bag size. The plane was a little dirty, but again for a budget airline and a quick flight it was fine. read more

Flights are often delayed multiple times and then cancelled. Weather is fine and they blame it on delays and unexpected maintenance. Do not trust this airline if you need to be somewhere on time. This past trip, my flight was delayed twice, then cancelled to the next day. Next day comes and delayed and cancelled again for issues that were under their control. I've heard from others that they'll do this if the flight isn't full enough, they'll just keep rescheduling till the plane is full. I ended up having to take a bus from Sudbury to Toronto because I had to get home and lost trust that they wouldn't cancel a third time. We flew back from Costa Rica on Sat, April 11 at 3:00 to Ottawa. We didn't land until 10:30 p.m. We wanted to buy some food on-board and we were told they had run out. All they could provide was their junk food at a cost. We were starving by the time we arrived in our town just outside of Ottawa and ended up eating at McDonalds since this was the only thing open at midnight. Didn't get home and to bed before 1:00 a.m. on the 12th. I truly felt like we were 2nd class citizens on this flight. read more

Had to take train downtown showed them i tried to check in 2 hrs early but had to change airports. Howver refused to board me and flight was delayed one hour. Recently took a porter flight from Pearson to Edmonton. What a fantastic experience! Not only did we get complimentary alcoholic beverages and meals, but the flight was ahead of schedule. Grabbing those emergency room rows were really great for my very tall men. There are also really convenient charging ports at each seat and free wifi, so that you are always connected and charging your devices! **Serious Safety Issues** Our vacation was cancelled because Porter does not have any functioning airplanes. They first delayed our boarding time by 3 hours because of technical issues. Flew in a back-up plane, managed to find an available pilot, and finally got everyone on board. We were just seconds from lifting off the ground, and the pilot hit the brakes, hard. Something had ROLLED OUT of the plane!!! What the actual F?! What kind of safety checks do they even do before sending people off into the air? Both planes had safety problems, pilots were hard to find and customer service line keeps customers on hold for 5+ hours with 10+ hour call back time. Their compensation offers are a joke as well. The only positive from this experience is that every staff member we had engaged with were kind and sympathetic. They were clearly unsurprised of the company's failings. Porter's failure to properly maintain a fleet of working airplanes is intolerable. This is our first and last time flying with Porter Airlines. read more

Very bad experience with Porter Airlines. I was there 40 mins before the flight departure. They told me it is over the time limit. Apparently they are full or something. And never try to help me solve the problem of changing flight to another airline flying today. I am so unhappy about their service because they don't even try to help me solve the problem. (Note: there are two separate Yelp entries for Porter Airlines, so I am posting this review in both). I have now flown Porter Air eight times this year, and they have been consistently excellent. (I thought this was a new airline, as most of us here in Vancouver have never heard of it. But I learned it's been around for over 10 years, primarily based in Toronto, and only recently has its flight plans expanded to Vancouver, Victoria, and other Canadian destinations - along with a few US destinations on the east coast). Every Porter flight I've been on has been on time, the airport counter people have been super helpful, the flight attendants have all been great, and I've never had any issues with my carry-on or checked-in luggage. I LOVE how there are no middle seats (only window and aisle seating), and how you are offered red or white wine or beer - in real glasses - on every flight, regardless of the time. (And the wines are good quality wines, too - not swill!). (As a nervous flyer, especially with turbulence, I gotta say, this glass of wine really helps me). And they offer you really great snacks (not just a crappy bag of peanuts). And you can have more than one glass of wine, or more than one snack if you want, too. This, in addition to Diet Coke or other beverages. I wasn't sure I'd like their in-flight entertainment system, as it's only available on your own phone or tablet, but I now am a big fan, as I can wear my own headphones (connected to my phone via Bluetooth), and their movie and tv show selection is fantastic. I wish they had a direct flight from Vancouver to Montreal, but so far, I've had to stop over in Toronto each time. But the stop-overs aren't bad, and I know the route to each gate now like the back of my hand. Porter goes to both Pearson and Billy Bishop airports in TO. (Note: be super careful choosing which TO airport to fly out of or land in! One of my seatmates on a recent flight was unaware that Porter now flies out of Pearson as he's booked them a gazillion times before, when they were only out of Billy Bishop, and he told QUITE the story, going to the wrong airport and having to run like the devil to Pearson to catch his flight). For some reason, on my last TO-YVR flight, I got randomly upgraded to their "Porter Reserve" class, at the front of the plane. Wow, I could get used to that! Early boarding, roomier seats, and free appetizer boxes and free meals. (And their meal selection is good, too!). Super super nice. I love Porter. I used to fly Air Canada exclusively and now I'll only fly Porter. Their fares are less expensive than AC and the service and perks, way better. And so far, for me, they've been very consistent. Flew with Porter Airlines out of YUL (Montreal). Had a friendly and jovial attendant at the check-in desk (Pierre - - looks like Robert Downey Jr). Went out of his way to assist us. He generously upgraded our seats. He went to grab plastic bags for our kids' car seats, which were to be checked. He helped load the seats into the protective plastic bags too. Fast forward to boarding time. He was at the gate, and greeted us (and other passengers) warmly. He helped unload our wagon, and reassured us that we would be have our wagon right away at our destination. Once we were seated on the plane, he came on board, and said hi when he saw us! He made sure we were comfortable with our seats, especially with my extra tall husband. We felt seen and cared for. He was cracking jokes with passengers. Such a happy, funny guy. Porter Air is the worst! My wife needed wheelchair service for her round trip flight from Edmonton to Hamilton. By chance, I had suggested that I go into the Edmonton Airport so she could ride her cart in rather than me just dropping her off. Good thing I did. They had nobody to push her to the gate, and made me do it! Meanwhile, I am parked in handicapped parking (thankfully no ticket). The coming back, they shelled her off the plane, made her get out of the chair and sit while they wheeled two other passengers to the baggage claim. They of course forgot her. The gate agent refused to help her. In the time she was waiting, to elderly women arrived at the gate, one pushing the other in the wheel chair (exhausted) with the same story. Finally a wheelchair person was happening by and my wife stopped her. The person pushed her to baggage claim. Baggage claim for that flight had ended and I had picked up her bag. Because her flight was delayed, and because it took her another hour to be wheeled to baggage, we incurred $52 in parking fees. I will never ever fly Porter airlines, again. The first time I flew with them, my flight from Ottawa to Vancouver, went from the planned 5h to be 8h on the plane because they had not plan ed accordingly. During the additional 3h passengers were unable to use the washroom (even though we were sitting on the tarmac) and the stewardess was TERRIBLY rude to the passengers. Instead of trying to elevate moods, she was horrible. On my 2nd flight (Ottawa to Tampa), the WiFi was na, the outlets were non functional and the service was again abysmal. I am so disappointed and will never fly with them again. As someone who flies several times a month, i can understand staffing issues/etc, however, Porter has a responsibility to account for those things. I'm not saying the horror stories are untrue, I just had a smooth experience (and a smooth flight). There was one delay of about 20 minutes on my return flight to Boston, but I arrived in Toronto early, and 20 minutes is not at all, so I'll let this one slide. I will give them points for keeping everyone updated (well, somewhat). We were a little past boarding time when the announcement was made, but they did tell us as soon as the plane landed, so we'd know the plane is on the island and no further delays are anticipated. Airplane is arranged in a 2/2 configuration, and the seats are plenty comfortable with more than enough legroom. Bathroom is tiny, but it gets the job done, and it's a regional airline to boot. Cabin crew has been wonderful on both flights. They also come around with snacks and beverages (including wine, possibly beer), which is included in the fare and always appreciated. Similarly, no complaints about gate and airport staff, however, in Boston the check in counter is only open for a certain time before flights and. OT in between. I admittedly arrived way early for my ~9am flight, and had to wait for a bit before checking my bag and going through security. I'll also note, and this is by no means limited to Porter: the fees, man. If you want to choose a seat rather than be assigned one, pay. For baggage, even a carry on (though depends on your fare), pay. The tickets themselves weren't too bad, but I'll still complain about fees. read more

I swear, I will never ever fly Porter again. My flight was cancelled due to bad weather, only to rebook me to another flight that would have same issue 2 days after. They asked me to drive all the way from Ottawa to Toronto to catch my flight because the flight that was given to me will overlap with the connecting flight. They would not let me speak to a manager, they refused to book me to another airline with a direct or connecting flight. They literally do not want to do anything. We flew Porter Airlines for our trip to Toronto and back because we wanted to fly out of Midway Airport in Chicago. I also appreciate how the Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ) is a small local airport in the city of Toronto, very similar to Midway in Chicago, and the service and overall experience is better at a smaller airport with less crowds. Today, we were running slightly behind schedule and didn't make it to the airport until 2pm, and our flight leaves at 3:35pm. We would've probably missed the flight if we were flying out of Pearson in Mississauga, with long lines at security. This is probably the quickest I've ever gone through security for an international flight, I didn't have to take off my sneakers, and the TSA agents were so friendly and willing to answer my questions and check my items. I was at my gate by like 2:30 with plenty of time to spare at the duty free store. We were able to pick up some maple syrup and airport exclusive Kit Kats (it's a partnership with the Lotus Biscoff coffee). I'm a big fan of their cookies, so I couldn't pass that up and needed to try it. I also went to the Porter Airlines counter right away for mandatory passport verification, so that I can expedite my boarding process. Shortly after, people caught on that that was necessary before the staff made an announcement. Their airplanes are smaller than what I'm used to with major airlines like American, United, Delta, etc., and the seats aren't the most comfortable, but I'm happy for the great service, convenience, and more importantly a safe flight from point A to point B. They also have the best snacks and drinks in the air. When I heard on the news that they're going to expand this airport, I was happy that other people will start taking advantage of this, but at the same time, I'm kind of selfish and want to keep this airport small and not crowded so the service will remain great and going through security will be stress free and quick. I personally had a very smooth and easy experience. My flight was at 7:50 in the morning and we lifted off exactly then and arrived a few minutes early to Toronto. Drinks and little snacks were served promptly and the staff were very nice and considerate. Keep it mind this was only for a 1.5 hour flight and that it was early in the morning; I am unsure if the service will remain consistently good but if anything goes wrong on my flight back, I will make sure to update it! read more

If you expect to get to your destination you must avoid Porter at all costs. Don't believe these fake posts about how great they are. They are anything but. The planes are old propeller bombardiers about 15 years old some of them. They cannot handle the weather like a jet can. Because they cancel flights regularly. Mean while different airlines traveling from the same cities with 727s don't have to cancel because they have newer jets that can handle the weather. Plus, even crappier airlines like Southwest and Spirit have some sort of customer service. Porter only has a gatekeeping system. If you do wait a day or so you might get a call back from someone who will literally yell at you (the one I had today was named Ray-shell I think or Rachell... however she is spelling it. She was screaming at me that Porter cannot control the weather. Screaming...! They say the calls are recorded, I doubt that is true. If they did the employees would not act like that. Don't get me wrong, while this failing airline is still in business they are still useful. If you have a family reunion you don't want to go to. Just fly with Porter and you have a 50- 50 chance of being cancelled and not being rebooked for three days. Do yourself a favor and spend the money for a real ticket on a real airline that makes direct flights to major cities. read more

We had a great experience with Porter Airlines. Employees are friendly and efficient. The plane isn't that big but it's fine since the flight is less than 2 hours from VA to Toronto. They have an awesome lounge in Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Complimentary sodas, bottled water, coffee drinks, and snacks are offered. The snacks they offer during your flight is also nice. They also serve complimentary Starbucks coffee and tea as well, which I thought was a nice touch. I had a flight at 9:30 but arrived for check in at the front desk of porter airlines at the Toronto airport at 8:05.Before I got to the front I heard the manager (Sofia) tell a customer to go to the front of the line because he had a 9am flight. Then I complained saying I also had an early flight. She came to me and when I told her I was going to LA, she rudely said I lost my flight because I did not arrive 90 minutes prior. I was disappointed but I went to get a new ticket. Then I heard some guys in the line saying they were going to LA and she let them through after they pleaded with her. I was furious and I told her it was not fair she let some people through and not others. Really a zero rating today I had a 5:05PM ticket for Toronto then a 7:30PM for Montreal. I ARRIVED early and was at gate A26 Dulles for the 2PM Toronto flight boarding today. WE all knew difficult weather was coming into the area. I asked if there was an empty seat on the flight and the attendant said yes but I would be charged 150$. That was shoddy considering I was the only one there, a seat was empty, and possible later day delays were expected. I refused. Then my 5:05 flight was delayed several times and I missed my connection to Montreal. So Porter rescheduled me from Toronto to Montreal after 12PM following day. No Toronto hotel voucher. The airport in TO, I was told, closes over night. Couldn't get through on the phone and the gate desk attendants didn't arrive for the 5:05 flight to answer any questions until after 7PM making it hard to plan alternatives. Vacay budget done, so in Dulles for the night. Shoddy. Never flying Porter again. read more

Giving a five star review to an airline when all their flights are grounded might seem wild, but I've got to give Porter some well deserved props. If this review is TL;DR just know the main reason I'm giving them this five star bump is because they have handled these extraordinary circumstances so well, they gave clear communication around flight cancellations and refunds and in the future, it's smaller airlines like this that will need our love. Here is my (virtual love). Let's start at the beginning. I hate small planes. Grrl, don't explain to me propeller flights are safer. Irrational fears are just that, irrational. I need to medicate before boarding these lil' babies. The free alcohol in the airport is very helpful for this. ;) I've flown Porter about a dozen times, to Halifax, Ottawa, MTL, DC and mostly into Newark to see buds in NYC. Have I had some delays? Yes. I live in Canada and they've all been weather related. Really don't get why people are so angry when weather happens... would you rather risk flying in dangerous conditions? What gives! Further to this, if the weather stopped your trip, it stopped *everyone's* trip... so like, yeah it'll take a minute to get everyone sorted. I'm digressing. My point is, has Porter always been perfect? No, but their customer care and ability to refund when the shit hits the fan (even if it takes a while) has always been there. Further to this, they do so many milk runs between TO and NYC it's super easy to pop on an earlier flight if you're already at the airport. I've done this a few times and not once have they charged me for it. A nice touch. I like them, and I hope they're still operating when the skies open up again. read more
