We finally departed at 1:15pm, and landed in San Diego 2:57 late...just 3 minutes shy of having to pay a $400CAD penalty compensation payment to each passenger, dang it! I've never been a big fan of Air Canada and my most recent experience was about average in my…read moreexperience. My fiance booked the tickets with united airlines miles since air Canada is a partner with united. She didn't get a free checked bag because air Canada didn't honor the united policy. First strike. We were in terminal 6 so she couldn't use the united lounge at terminal 7 at LAX. Not air Canada's fault but still disappointing. The aircraft didn't have a working auxiliary power unit. That meant no air conditioning on the ground. It also meant that one aircraft engine needed to be started while the aircraft was on the gate prior to pushing back. Once the aircraft door was closed it got even hotter inside the aircraft. Flight to Toronto was fine, Boeing 787 dreamliner, upgraded to premium economy so we had a bulkhead seat with extra leg room. Return flight was full Airbus 320, so I checked my carry-on at the self service kiosk along with my fiancé's checked bag. Didn't realize that the bag tags were different so I put the full size checked bag tag on my carry-on and sent it off. When I tried to put the full size bag in it was rejected for being over sized. Customer service was not readily available. I finally found someone who was helping someone else and waited for her to finish, she walked away and I had to chase her down. She told me that i had put the wrong bag tag on the suitcase and would need to wait in a very long line to get it corrected. After waiting approximately 15 minutes the line had barely moved. I decided to go back to the kiosk and pay for another checked bag. What seemed like a fairly simple fix ended up costing another 55 bucks to avoid standing in line for a very long time. After paying a second time to check a bag we headed to the screening check point and were quickly through and on our way. We had passes for the lounge from united. When we arrived at the lounge the air Canada representative told us that even though they were code share partners with united air Canada wouldn't give us access. So we were turned away from the lounge. Interestingly the family behind us had business class tickets to Africa and were also refused access. Again lousy customer service and not much Explaination for why we and the family weren't eligible to use the lounge. When we were waiting to board the flight the gate agents repeatedly announced that the flight was completely full. They were asking for passengers to bring their carry-on bags to the podium to be checked in because of the limited space in the overhead bins. Flight to LAX was crowded but otherwise uneventful. The Airbus 320 didn't have entertainment at the seats so no movies, TV, or audio available at the seat. Overall I don't recommend air Canada and generally prefer to fly another airline if they serve the same route.

(Traveled 09/15/25 MO @ 12:50pm): No porters were needed on this airline!…read more I recently flew one-way with Porter Airlines from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to visit a dear friend and our lil' black beast. An apparent airline partner with Alaska Airlines, the company was founded in 2006 by Robert Deluce. They focused on an upscale regional model initially within the Province of Ontario with planes that omitted middle seats, offered complimentary beer and wine regardless of international flight or not, and eventually expanded into Eastern Canada and bordering United States major cities, such as Boston, Chicago, and New York. Today, they are Canada's 3rd largest airline, flew domestically coast-to-coast, and continued to expand into the continental U.S.. Would I consider this airline important enough to continue using it if they offered a needed travel route!? PURCHASE(S) One-Way PorterClassic Fare ($161.54): Nowadays, I booked one-way flights because I usually had more flexibility when I needed to return. Since I booked the flight less than four weeks before its departure, I was kind of screwed for international air travel on short notice versus during a certain travel season. On an afternoon direct flight that arrived in Newark around 2:20pm the same day, it barely allowed me to enjoy the complimentary snacks... which I was fine with. Checked Luggage (Varied; N/A this instance): A budget airline that had various tiered baggage AND carry-on fees (which airline didn't these days?), the ticket I purchased "included" one carry-on bag. I honestly had no idea how much they charged. I traveled very light, especially for a quick trip such as this, so I only had a carry-on and backpack. FLIGHT EXPERIENCE ~Check-in: I checked-in online 24-hours prior, downloaded their QR code boarding pass into my Google Wallet, and traveled with only a carry-on and backpack, so I was ready to go! I had Global Entry & TSA PreCheck, so my time with security checkpoints and the necessary TSA pleasantries was efficient and minimal. When it was time, passengers were queued-up in order of their boarding group (I couldn't remember the sequencing). The flight literally arrived shortly after it departed. ~Seat(s): 19B Aisle - Come on, it was the same sardine can like all airplanes these days. I always favored a window seat towards the back of the plane close to the restroom and snacks. Alas, my aisle seat allowed me to stretch my legs a bit more. ~In-flight Meals (Varied; FREE this instance): They offered complimentary beer, wine, and snacks, so I ordered a beer I've never had before (Moosehead Breweries Cracked Canoe Ultra Premium Light Beer 3.5% ABV 12floz Can), and some salted almonds. I was just stoked for the free beer! ~Lavatory: I'd done my business at the terminal before we left, so I had no idea of the condition of the restroom closest to me. ~Service & Amenities: All uniformly-dressed flight attendants were adequate and spoke perfect English. None of the seats had video monitors for movie/show watching, music listening, and games playing. The seats themselves were roomy enough, and this particular plane (De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft) had no middle seats. No blankets, headphones, or pillows were provided. The drink/snack cart rolled out shortly after the plane leveled off after takeoff. PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance): There were parking structures with both short- and long-term options. However, this airport had a very good transit system that consisted of buses, taxi cab service, and Lyft or Uber stations. So, why would you park!? But, if you needed to park a vehicle, hourly rates up to a 2-hour maximum were about $5.00CAD per 20 minutes. Daily rates from self-parking to valet started from $35.00CAD and up. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE With only a lone passenger terminal, I departed out of Gate 10 where there were limited eateries and duty-free shops around, and few flight monitors along the way. There were sufficient places to sit in the terminal with plenty of natural and electric lighting. Once on the airplane, this was what I called a "puddle-jumper" - small, turboprop, and felt every air pocket and bump in the sky. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. I liked to be unencumbered and unfettered, so the least amount of clothing, especially while I traveled through an airport, the better! OVERALL My one-way non-stop flight on Porter Airlines out of Toronto (YTZ) was fine and got me to Newark (EWR) safely which truthfully was all that mattered to me on any flights. I wished there were seat video monitors that helped pass the time. However, I'd fly with them again. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $162.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Our flight to Calgary on Westjet (ugh) proves just how far BEHIND Canadian carriers are in terms of Customer Service and professionalism. Air Canada too, sucks, based on my numerous experiences. For a teeny tiny little airline, they make it a tolerable and easy flying experience. Seat quality and amenities are budget tier.

However, I received no email, text message, or any formal notification disclosing this information to me. So when I land in Toronto, I find out my flight was cancelled when the US customs officer scans my boarding pass. Delta made absolutely no effort to contact me regarding my cancellation. Upon going to the Delta desk at the airport, the worker is unable to disclose why my flight was cancelled, and says I've automatically been booked in the next flight. He is rude and reluctant to give me any information at all. I practically had to pry the new flight information out of him, to discover my next flight would be the next morning, over 12 hours later. I ask if the airline could provide a hotel for the inconvenience. As I had still received no word from the airline formally, and they could not provide details about why the flight was cancelled (the agent had now started telling me that the airport cancelled the flight... but no reason). He refused to provide any sort of accommodation, telling me he simply wouldn't. He refused to get a supervisor, but when he finally did, the supervisor essentially told me she didn't care and I had to figure everything else out myself. And then, I finally receive a text from Delta. Saying that my new flight the next morning is cancelled. And they would not be booking me a new flight. So essentially, Delta made zero effort to help. Leaving me stranded in Toronto. I am outraged by this. I am thankfully receiving a refund for my flight (which is the bare minimum I should be receiving). I ran to the Air Canada desk, and thankfully, they were able to book me on a last minute flight same day.

Travel Food Reality Check…read more On my recent trip through Vancouver International Airport, I stopped by the Plaza Premium Lounge for breakfast. Let's just say... it was memorable--but not for the right reasons. Pancakes that were oddly chewy Sausages that tasted more like shredded cardboard than meat Coffee so acidic it felt like a science experiment Scrambled eggs that somehow didn't taste like eggs at all In sharp contrast, the WestJet business class breakfast I had onboard was a world apart--fresh, tasty, and well-prepared. A reminder that sometimes the in-flight meal actually beats the lounge offering. Airports and airlines put a lot into branding the "premium" experience, but at the end of the day, the food tells the real story. She was then forced to pay out of pocket for a taxi to reach the correct airport and continue her journey. She was left behind while other passengers were accommodated, spent the night alone in an airport, and finally arrived home nearly 20 hours late. The lack of communication, accurate information, coordination, and assistance provided by United Airlines was unacceptable, especially for a senior passenger travelling alone. She was left to navigate multiple airports, transportation issues, and changing flight information without the support she should have received. We have escalated this matter to United Airlines' Head of Customer Care Operations and the CEO and hope they will address this experience appropriately. AeroMexico qualifies as worst airline I have ever used…read more Their aircraft are well maintained, and I know there are airlines out there that don't maintain their aircraft, so I will give them that. I don't say they are dangerous. In fact they are a lot safer than most airlines. The reason is that it's hard to get on to their flight, after you've paid for their ticket. So half the time you don't even get to fly. Staying on the ground is a lot safer than flying. We bought tickets in August, for a flight in December. Due to the huge lineups, there was just a little bit over 80 minutes left when we got to the counter. It was a domestic Mexican flight, and we were already checked in the day before. All we needed was to get our luggage to the flight which was entirely possible to do. Aeromexico said that they couldn't do it, and that we needed to buy new tickets. The new tickets would be twice as expensive as the originals. But, they threatened, if we didn't buy the new tickets they would cancel our return flight as well. So under duress we bought the new tickets. Amazingly, with the new tickets, they were able to get our luggage to the flight in half the time, just 40 minutes before the flight. I guess the speed of luggage movement depends on how much money you give these bastards. but guess what? They did cancel the return flight too. They said we needed to buy a third set of tickets to get the return flight!!!! Obviously we used a different airline for that. Aeromexico is never going to get my business again. They will be out of business I hope very soon.

I was told by a very rude, young girl that she was going to consult with a supervisor, (another rude woman) regarding my covid test result. I waited and waited, hauling my heavy suitcase back and forth to the counter and back. Finally the supervisor showed up and indicated that my covid test result though negative had expired by approximately one hour, I stated that I had been sent the results just about an hour ago. She wouldn't budge and maintained that it had expired, that I wouldn't be allowed to fly and no matter what I said to her she just stated that those were Aeromexico's policies. I mentioned that I am a Canadian citizen, that upon arriving in Toronto I was probably going to be subjected to yet another covid test at the airport, since tests are being conducted randomly at Toronto Pearson's airport, but nothing I said worked, so I had to take a VERY expensive cab back to where I was staying and proceed to undergo another expensive covid test. I also asked if Aeromexico was going to book me on another flight and I was told that they were not going to honour my original round-trip fare, that I had to purchase a brand new ticket, which happened to be quite expensive. Another employee from Aeromexico indicated that I was treated in an arbitrary and Unfair manner, that he would have allowed me to fly.

I 100% recommend Flair Airlines for major flights leaving major hubs like Toronto. I read tons of…read morenegative reviews beforehand and we were very nervous our flight would be cancelled for delayed. We purchased the travel interruption service via Flair airlines and had no issues with transportation. Check-In: It was super easy to check in online 24 hours before our flight. Make sure you write down the six digit code confirming your flight when you pay for your tickets. This is your code for checking in both ways on a round trip fare. As long as you have this, you are golden. We checked in online and waited in line in Toronto. The line was short and moved really quickly. We arrived three hours before our flight and it was the perfect amount of time to check in, clear customs, have a second breakfast and board the plane. Take Off: Our flight boarded on time and it was smooth sailing. The flight left 20 minutes late and the pilot profusely apologized. Compared to Air Canada and West Jet last year, flying with Flair was a breeze. The other major airlines were so chaotic during check-in and were delayed 10 hours and 7 hours, our experience with Flair was a breeze. The Flight: The flight was good but the app they told us to download for in-flight entertainment did not work either way. There was no in-flight wi-fi and I was disappointed they advertised this service. The flying was smooth and we only hit turbulence one time both ways. The landing was smooth both ways and the pilots did an amazing job. The seating is also bigger and more spacious than the seating on two of Canada's major airlines that we flew on earlier in 2023. The Food: Flair airlines offers food like pizza, nachos and other glutinated items. If you have food allergies or are gluten and lactose intolerant like me, there will not be anything you can eat. I recommend you buy snacks in the airport or bring them from home. Baggage: I have qualms regarding the baggage. I purchased Flair airlines baggage insurance and it apparently only covers bags that do not arrive. My bag was cosmetically damaged during transit and they will not cover this. I was very disappointed to see my beautiful red bag covered in black grease. Would I Recommend Flair Airlines: I recommend Flair airlines for flying out of big hubs or flights that appear full. I would not recommend Flair for trips from/to smaller hubs where the flights do not appear full, as I heard horror stories about flying to/from Abbotsford, Calgary and Vancouver. It appears leaving Toronto and heading to a warm destinations like Dominican during the holiday season is a safer bet. I would recommend you get the travel insurance as it ensures you'll be on a flight within 3 hours if your flight is cancelled or delayed.

I have done the Canadian Transportation Agency for flair with successful outcome, dm me on…read moreinstagram if you need help!! I've used in Dec 2022 and more recently April 2026. In Dec 2022, I was very lucky to board the F8500 YFK TO YVR and F81501 from YVF to YFK(Waterloo airport). With a ski bag, boot bag and personal bag Lucky is an understatement, I was grounded for a week along with many other flights and fortunately YVR airport stepped in to compensate hotels, meals and transit because Flair Airlines was not providing any compensation or accommodation. In this same flight, I took on a ski bag that was only used for one other trip and a boot bag. I even stored my helmet in my boot bag padded with towel. My ski bag was ripped and my boot bag was also damaged, along with the helmet being crushed. There was a big dent. After 3 years I did get a resolution with Canadian Transport Agency for my ski baggage refunded, the compensation for a new ski bag and compensation for a new helmet. I didn't both with the boot bag- it was old. In this experience I found severe inconsistencies with handling ski bag and boot bag. Flair YFK expected me to duct tape the boot bag with the ski bag. And truly before leaving I did try to get clarification as some standard ski bags only have room for skis and poles. While at YVR. they did a quick test on the skis (not sure what) and away I go in the oversized section. So after being stranded for a week with excessive wait for Flair to go on repeat cancel flight then reschedule a week later I took a break from Flair. In April 2026.i took it to YFK TO YYC and YYC TO YYZ with a ski bag and a personal bag , I decided to give it another try, one thing is that going from YFK would save me the transfer time to Toronto Pearson airport. This time at YFK I wasn't asked to duct tape my boot and ski bag INTERESTING! So this time, I took a roller style where I placed two boots and one ski in one bag and a second bag to carry another set of skis. In the bag, I carried another ski bag for the boot just in case I got separated from my travel companion. It was easy breezy but the personal bag size limits POST flair bag sizing scandal was a bit sketch and heavily enforced. So much that they are tagging carry on and personal bags. On the return from YYC to YYZ, I watched another patron with a ski bag and a standard boot bag (side hang mount with space for helmet, snow pants and snow layers), have his content ripped apart. Understand that if you are skiing, you will also be carrying long johns, extra layers, ski jacket (built with arm ventilation and snow skirt), snow pants (with vents potentially) and a person may have a conventional jacket depending time of year. While I didn't have issues, there is a severe inconsistency and I dunno if he just had a hard time because the patron was not familiar that you can't fit boots in some ski bag configurations. And while the website doesn't specifically say restrictions for ski related clothing- there shouldn't be much of a restriction. I should mention snowboarders have but pads, elbow pads, knee pads- and some pants are built in with the ppe. My travel companion got dinged for $100 just carrying a standard puma bag- usually around 6kg with a Mac book and some light clothes. IF HE DIDNT PAY THE $100 he would not be allowed to board the flight is what he shared with me. The competitor Air Canada was running flights around mid-$500 to $600 and with my branded credit card I get two checked bags. So $420 vs $600. I'm not sure it's extremely worth the hassle with the additional fear of being surcharged. Overall in 2026 the difference with handling is that flair offers a $60 credit if they are delayed up to one hour. YFK to YYC I found my wait time 50min, not enough to get a credit. I also found that each reservation was made separately and this resulted in randomized seating-some children separated from their kid. I also noticed a credit card charge applied on reservation- so debit saves you- but then you can't use the benefits for flight delays and travel interruption. The change fee was $190 for me to change my return fromYFK to YYZ, because change was within 7 days. Overall lots of anxiety travelling with strict personal bags. You sort of have to make sure your destination has washing ability because you're packing lighter. Overall travelling with a ski bag with boot bag or all in one roller is possible but I have overall anxiety. I certainly don't argue that my flight with ski gear was around $300 per person and I added a $190 change. If I used Air Canada, I would be charged similar unless it was a point redemption then I have 24-48 hours to refund the points and taxes. I should note that the flair website restricts one set of boot and ski per passenger while paying for checked baggage with air canada you can fill it with as much skis- so I usually throw all the skis in a standard roller and boots in a hard case luggage.
