They don't carry much lumber because that's not what they're there for. Go there to get paint, hardware, agriculture supplies and especially Stihl and Honda machines. I bought a new Honda battery powered mower, HRX217XB. It has issues: 1. The drive locks up in one wheel or the other when you finish a row and try to pull back before turning and it leaves a divot in the lawn and is hard to maneuver. 2. Has plastic wheels that slip on any incline. For $1300 you should have good quality wheels. Rubber at least. 3. Battery is good. 4. Mowing power (1.5 kw) is only good for fairly short grass Overall gets a C- grade. Would not buy again. Just a poor design & engineering, especially for the price read more

I haven't been to this Ace Hardware in a very, very long time. Years in fact and it's mostly due to moving out of the neighborhood. But this past weekend we came here to get keys made. Talk about fast and efficient. The keys were made pronto just as soon as we were directed what counter to go to. It was really "easy in and easy out". Although from the outside this store looks pretty small but once you go inside it's a lot larger than it looks with a very good inventory to meet your hardware needs. I will definitely keep this store in mind more often. read more

Worst customer service ever. Went in to buy a product on sale for Memorial Day. Waited 20 minutes for assistance. The manger was very dismissive and had an attitude. She was not able to honor my purchase and provided no solutions. I will never frequent this location again! Called another location who was extremely helpful and offered support. My husband and I call this "Lemon's Ace" because there is an employee named Lemon who works there and is so friendly and helpful. We always hope she is there when we go. This is not a very big Ace, but they somehow always have what I need and the staff knows where everything is and are quick to help you find it. I took my Honda mower to Ace Agrishop at 21012 S. 12th in Tacoma, WA. For years I went to a different place, but the man retired. My first time trying Ace Agrishop, and I now have a permanent new place for mower service. My mower received the annual service, and I picked it up and checked it out today and works perfect. it is easy to drop off mower, when I picked it up a big, young guy took the mower to my van and picked it by himself and loaded it for me. The service price is very fair and reasonable. The shop requires a $65 deposit when you take a mower in, and then the deposit is subtracted from the service bill. read more

I take my Honda mower here for maintenance. The service is outstanding, affordable and fast. My mower continues to run like new. It was just in for seasonal maintenance. (They offer maintenance packages at different levels.) The work was completed in just over a week. I had a specific concern and the maintenance tech made sure to address that. The blades on the mower were sharpened. I brought in two additional sets of blades. Those were sharpened and zip-tied to the handle. That's much more convenient than having them handed over separately. This is a great facility. read more

Great size and location next to a few large residential neighborhoods. ***Go ahead skip this Ace Store***- the parking lot is nasty and rarely clean. The merchandise is extremely expensive (and frankly overpriced). I gave this store one last chance - they charged $5.06 for an empty quart sized paint can (needed to consolidate excess paint). Id rather drive across town to McClendons, Home Depot or Lowes (OR the really nice Ace on Pearl Street). They should just close and redevelop the site with something useful. read more

Short Version: AgriShop charged me $60 to drop off saw for repair. Wrongly diagnosed it AND was unable to repair it because they temporarily lost their Husqvarna dealership. Refused to refund my money. Details: Brought Pro grade Husqvarna Chainsaw in for repair January 31st. Was charged $60 admittance fee and the Saw would be ready Mid-March with a new Carburetor for $300. Called March 18th and was told saw would be ready Mid-April. Or in May! I told AgriShop "that's too long, I will take it elsewhere". I would like the $60 back. "No on the $60 back. We spent that on diagnosis" It turns out AgriShop had lost the ability to purchase parts from Husqvarna, because AgriShop had decided to quit selling Husqvarna. "AgriShop expected to be able to purchase parts soon, they just didn't know when." I said "Please look at it from my point of view: You charged me $60 to take in my saw when you have no ability to actually fix it". Still a NO on refunding the $60. The diagnosis was that too many fines had got passed the air filter and ruined the Carburetor. (Which makes little sense, fines passing through the Carb will wear out the piston and cylinder wall and maybe clog up the crankcase, but pass mostly harmlessly through the Carb) I took the Saw to Madsen's in Centralia on a Tuesday. By the next day Madsen's installed a new spark plug and fuel filter, re-flashed the computerized carburetor and called me to pick it up. For $75 total cost my Saw is running better than new! Thank you Ace Ag Shop for making me find Madsen's! A real repair shop! read more

Man, this place is awesome. Came in this evening, shortly before closing, looking for a specific Weber grill. They had one left, already assembled, so I jumped at it. The owner gladly honored the price I found online and even offered to drive it to my house immediately, so that I could fire it up for dinner tonight!!! I took my Husquvarna gas mower in for service. I bought the 'premium' service plan for $120.00. I assumed that that would cover the basics and sharpen the blade. However, 10 days later I pick it up. There is an additional $ $45.00 charge for parts. Nothing extraordinary... just oil, air filter, new blade ( they didn't sharpen the old blade) and a spark plug. I wasn't informed of the extras beforehand. Customary with all flat fee service is to call the customer before including extra charges. At least that's the way my car mechanic handles it. I have had my mower serviced at other places and the ' premium' plan covers the usual items; spark plug, filter,oil etc... but sadly not here. I did complain and the mechanic showed me a tattered piece of paper that had the three 'plans' listed and a single line of type at the top saying parts extra. I was not shown that on my initial visit. Please be aware in patronizing this shop that there will be 'extras' added on. I think it is a scam. From other reviews here I understand the store owner has been warned by the Attorney General about this. My fault for not doing better research and asking to see the scope of service beforehand. read more

First time I thought was a fluke, second time I arrived a little before closing to grab six screws I am approaching the door when the same woman who gave me poor service the first time turned the close sign on the door. She is looking directly at me while doing this. Charging you to analyze if a piece of equipment can or cannot be repaired. States the equipment is unusable. Friend comes over, makes some adjustments and said equipment works perfectly. This place is great. I'd say I come in here more than a dozen times a year and I've always had a good experience. I once came in with a plumbing issue that I didn't know how to resolve. I had a city inspection in 30 min and was in a rush. The employee that helped me has always been a bit gruff but always ready to help when asked. He was great, he found all the bits and pieces I needed to successfully fix the issue my plumbers had created and he found cheaper options that were not immediately obvious. I went back in there a few days later and he took the time to ask me how it went (I passed inspection!) and to see if there were any other issues he could help with. I'm not saying we are bffs now but if I have any issues I know that he is going to help me find the best solution. Sometimes I come in here just to look and their garden supplies or buy bird seed. I'm always asked at least once if I need help but never feel like I'm bothering anyone or being pressured into some kind of sale. Tip: it is worth price checking box stores against this place. Often enough i have found that this Ace had the same, or better, pricing than the two big stores in our area and also they occasionally have items in stock that the others don't. It's nice to support locally owned and not feel the squeeze on your wallet in the process. read more

Came here on company time to pick up a few items for a project. Quick and easy and no one was overly pushy. Paid and left. When I got back to work, they wanted me to return everything and swap it out for different colors of cable. Okay, simple return, let's see what happens. Got back to Ace, walked in, found the new items I needed and walked up with everything. A different lady helped me, was very quick, took it all back and paid the difference for the new items. In the north end of Tacoma, options are limited in the area of hardware stores. I like the idea of smaller, more accessible hardware stores, but Ace Hardware doesn't muster up for me. This is a place to go when you need basic parts and products for your home. This location is even worse than the Pearl Street location. It is small and the service is limited. After over three visits, each time I was greeted friendly but unappeased in terms of the products I needed. After five plus minutes, the service assistance could not answer whether or not they had a liquid wood wax or aging cream. You don't often hear me suggest supporting the big guy, you will today. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's. It's frustrating to go to a place and not get what you want. To prevent that, go to a larger hardware store. The laws of physics suggest, the more space: the more space for hardware supplies. read more

I went there to fix a incorrectly mixed can of paint. Initially I was a bit skeptical as it took me a few staff members to get the right person, but actually, they were finding the best person to do the job for me. They moved an employee off of the register to help me. She was amazing. She spent an hour analyzing the paints I brought in - two cans that were not even close to matching (I got them from another store, not run by the folks here). After calculating how to adjust the paint she was able to give me a product that matched perfectly. There was no charge either, even thought it was botched by another store. She was kind, friendly, and sympathetic. I was definitely appreciative of her hard work. When I asked who was the manager or owner, I was handed a card with her name on it. We were looking for a repair place for our Honda lawnmower. Didn't know what happen it just stopped and we needed it fixed quick. We had been to Agrishop a few years back for a lawn mower repair and were sure we would never return. With the time crunch the only option we could find was her so we decided to go back. Wow what a difference. Not only remodeled but service was extraordinary. In and out in 20 min and charged $6.27 for a new filter. Having used Tacoma Agrishop for years and I recommend them for lawn and garden equipment and repairs. The Ace Hardware portion off the business is amazing in the variety of products stuffed in that little store. The Agrishop store offers a selection of brands and equipment that aren't easily available elsewhere. One of the reviews is from someone disappointed about the lack of a product and he is recommending folks go to a box store. There is an independently owned lumber store less than ten minutes away, no need to go to the box store. I have always found the staff at Agrishop to be helpful. The person at the cash register usually knows the last but when I am looking for something they'll call someone to come help me As someone who uses commercial lawn and garden equipment I have come to appreciate Mike in the parts department. His knowledge of parts is excellent and he makes it fun to come in for parts. Mike is a knowledgeable and competent parts person. Keith, the manager, is extraordinarily knowledgeable of the extensive variety of equipment they sell, parts and service. He can help you find the chainsaw or pressure washer that fits your needs, find a part for you or tell you how to fix your machine, truly a resource. When I can't fix a piece of equipment myself, I bring it in to Agrishop and have them do it. Andy is a great mechanic and when I've spoken with him he is very knowledgeable and personable. I really appreciate and value his experience and expertise. The equipment Agrishop sells ranges from homeowner to commercial. The box stores just don't offer what you can get at Agrishop. The Ace Hardware side of the store offers great convenience and selection for folks in the neighborhood. I am not the owners nephew and have no connection with Agrishop other than being their customer. Having more experience with this business than most or all of the other reviewers I thought it might be helpful to put up a review. Why for stars instead of five? For me five stars is for perfect and no business you deal with long term it's that. Having one zero star or five star experience is not really helpful in helping others make an informed decision. read more

Sneaky and dishonest! My husband took our lawn mower to this Agrishop to have the broken pull rope fixed. They examined it and told him the repair would cost $30, which had to be paid in advance. He paid, left the mower, and returned to get it when the repair was done, whereupon they presented him with a bill for $30! When he told them he had already paid, they told him he needed to pay ANOTHER $30 because the job turned out to be harder than they thought it would be. They never called him to get his OK on the doubled price. What a sneaky tactic! They probably did it knowing that if they quoted him the $60 from the beginning, he would have gone elsewhere. Don't go to this place for repairs! You might end up regretting it like we did! read more

Ordered (and paid for) a grass bagger for my John Deere D130 mower two weeks ago on a Friday. When I stopped by, they said they had three in stock at the Auburn store, but would have it there the next monday and would call. I called them the next Thursday, and it had not been ordered. Essentially, it takes a phone call from them to get it from the Auburn store to the Tacoma store, but despite their assurances, the call had not been made. They promised that the call would be made and I'd have it by this past Monday and that they would call. It is now Wednesday, and no call. I was on hold with the parts department for nine minutes before speaking with Mike. He stated that they put the request in but it just wasn't delivered, but they'll have it there tomorrow. I was going to give the business a one star review but at least Mike was helpful. I'm really disappointed that these guys are my "area authorized John Deere dealer". read more

My basement was flooding I received expert help in selecting a sump pump, tips on dealing with the water problem in the basement, and Steve set the hose to the pump so all I had to do was drop it into the bucket with holds in it (another great tip) and as the bucket started filling with water the pump switched on and has been working great ever since. I came in to get some toggle bolts and a male employee followed me around the entire store until I brought my item up to the register. When I approached the register the cashier was checking someone out. It seemed like a fairly normal transaction. The cashier was nice, fast, and friendly. However, that ended as soon as she got to me. It was weird. She did a complete 180. There was no "hello", or "did you find everything okay?" She looked at me with disdain and when I handed her a $5 bill she held it up and also checked it with a marker to make sure it wasn't counterfeit. I've NEVER seen anyone check a $5. I normally wouldn't take something like that personally. However, when the previous customer before me paid with a $20 the cashier didn't check to see if it was counterfeit. The whole thing was just super tacky and cringy. I've never felt more unwelcome in a place. I don't want to play the race card, but part of me wonders if I were Caucasian if they would have treated me differently. I realize that I'm not their primary demographic customer. However, that doesn't change the fact that I'm still a customer. Regardless, I hope they have a mediocre day. read more

If you take a lawn morrow into the Tacoma Agrishop and get a quote expect to pay double when you go and pick it up. Took my California clipper in for a blade sharpen for $89.00 and found out I needed a bottom cutter blade $89.00 as well. Figured $180.00 for the job but when I went in to pick it up after 3 weeks the price was close to $300.00. Said I needed new chain, I did not and several bolts. Still don't know how it added up to $300.00 but I will never go back there, no phone calls or time it was ready. Worst place to have equipment fixed in my opinion. Scott read more

This is one of the very few (do not do business with) local businesses. After doing several thousands in business with agrishop, including selling a mower on commission, Agrishop refused to do repair my mower when I complained to the owner, Darrin about several instances where his crew performed unauthorized work and also made some inaccurate statements to the warranty company that cause a big headache. Instead, Darrin doesn't even call me, he has his clerk just ignore my repair requests for 2 weeks and doesn't tell me personally he has an issue until the clerk tells me on my 6th call. I prefer to do business with companies run by an adult, who understands customer service a little better than the owner of Auburn Ace. The issue I had was repetitive, Ace would take the mower, without a signed contract or repair agreement, perform hundreds in work without even notifying me of the charges, 100% illegal. The owner was warned in a letter from the Attorney General on the matter and I gave them a 2nd chance, apparently they have no interest in following the law. read more

I'm an Auto Parts guy and previously a lawn & garden technician for Sears so I know how the system works. When you lie to me and over charge me I'm going to talk about it. Wife and son went to Agrishop Ace Hardware on Friday 11/29. They purchased almost $50 worth of merchandise. They grabbed an Ace Thanksgiving event flyer on the way out. When they got home, they saw that everything (not on sale) was 20% off with the included coupon. Well, the unethical people at Ace Agrishop did not bother to tell my wife that she could have gotten 20% her entire purchase just my giving them a coupon from the huge stack of fliers located right next to the cashiers!
