The House Margarita was solid. The veggie fajitas were good as well, though a bit salty. I appreciate the generous amount of veggies and the good tortilla-to-filling ratio. The grilled chicken tacos are a nice, healthier option, and the alcohol-free Corona continues to be a big plus. I'm always met with pleasant, kind servers here. The service is typically slow, even on quieter nights, but the location on a busy corner makes for a nice atmosphere. (Of course) I appreciated the fact that the hostess was upfront about the kitchen being backed up and seated us when they were in a better position in the kitchen. Great, authentic Mexican food! Isaac, the owner put together a great menu with delicious, authentic food. Our bartender, whose name I forget to get, was great and had good suggestions for drinks and food. We shared guacamole and ceviche that was delicious and nice portions. For my dinner I had the churrasco and it was cooked perfectly medium rare and so flavorful with chimichurri. I ordereda side of the elote corn and it was so good I could've eaten another order! Was meeting a friend at the bar and was greeted immediately by a very nice bartender. She offered me drinks and menu then set us up with place settings (before she even arrived). She was super attentive and patient when we were busy catching up and slow to order. Food was very good: guacamole and quesabirria and ceviche. We were just snacking. The premium margarita and red sangria were both also good. My friend had a virgin mojito, to which she was very impressed!! She said she didn't even miss the rum!! Oof. A Mexican restaurant in Suffern, where there are several Mexican restaurants within a block of one another, *really* should be much better than this. First of all, our server deserves major props. He was hustling the ENTIRE time, doing basically everything on his own and managing orders from a dozen tables or so. Not his fault at all he was granted no help - he did great and was friendly the whole time. Let's start with the worst of it. I've rarely, maybe never, had a worse margarita at a Mexican restaurant than I had at Agave. My partner ordered the Agave 845 one and I got the Cadillac. Both of ours tasted like pure alcohol with some sugar mixed in - no lime taste whatsoever. I even asked for some lime wedges to squeeze into it, and after doing so they were much more drinkable. But I seriously think the bartender forgot to put lime in. Literally undrinkable the way they were served to us, 1/10 for the margaritas for sure. Got the guacamole and chips as an app. The chips were very hard but otherwise the guac was delicious, no complaints there. For our entrees, I got the chicken and chorizo fajitas and my husband got a chorizo quesadilla. Both were... fine. My fajitas definitely needed something to add some flavor as they were fairly bland, and the refried beans that came with it tasted like nothing. But it was passable. The quesadillas were the same - not bad, but passable. Sadly, in an area with lots of great Mexican food, passable food and abysmal margaritas doesn't cut it, even if the guac was great. No way we'd come back here. Give that server a raise though, wish I'd asked his name. But whoever was working dinner yesterday, Sunday August 12th - you were great. read more

One look on social media and I was sold! I had to try their Quesabirria which turned out to be unbelievably delicious. But let me tell you about the entire experience. As soon as we walked through the door, all eyes were on us (in a good way): the staff was super attentive & friendly! After checking our temperatures & signing us in, we were given choice of seating and, looking around, the ambience was really great here so you can't go wrong with any table. Hand sanitizer was provided at the door, and nothing could've gone smoother during our meal. Just as we had hoped, chips & salsa were dropped off and though I wish the salsa had a bit more of a kick, the chips were amazing! ...we got refills. The Quesabirria was so flavorful, cheesy, meaty, and with the consommé dip on the side, an absolute symphony in your mouth! My friends had the chicken quesadilla & chilaquiles divorciados and they enjoyed their meals too. Plus a handful of dishes can come with guac at no additional cost! I don't like that I have to leave this review because I was really excited to try this place out. I visited this restaurant with my mother and sister on 12/29. We were super excited because we thought we finally didn't have to travel all the way to the city for the birria tacos that everyone is raving about... But boy, were we disappointed. We ordered the chicken wings appetizer and asked for the sauces on the side so we can taste each of the sauces w/ the chicken. The chicken had absolutely no taste. It appears to me that they don't season their meat and they rely on the sauces for the taste. However, getting the chicken done regularly would have been a bust too because the sauces did not have any taste either! It seems that each of the sauces had a water base, or something. It tasted extremely watery (or like water). We were hoping that our birria tacos would be better - but not only did the tacos not have *any* taste (I kid you not, there was no seasoning) but the sauce that comes with it also had a watery base. Extremely bland food. You guys, we were so disappointed that my sister said she never wants to try birra again; and she really looking forward to it. The only good thing is that my mother loved her steak meal. I hope they work on seasoning their meals properly. I have never felt so let down in my life, lol. I was expecting so much better from a restaurant that is supposed to be authentic Mexican. I know Mexicans know how to season their food - I'm not sure why this cook didn't. I'm a Caribbean girl, and if you're familiar with Carribean food or truly authentic Mexican food, you know your tastebuds are overjoyed with delight with every bite. But here, zero flavor, zero excitement while eating (and I love to be excited about the food I'm eating - eyes rolling back and everything). I'm just hoping having those tacos on the menu wasn't some money grab because they were nasty. I'm willing to try them again to see if they've improved, but I'm a bit afraid of wasting money. We decided to try this spot for take out but were really underwhelmed with the food quality and service. I'm sure most patrons are comparing it to Ole Ole, which used to be the restaurant at this location. In addition, it's still a relatively new spot, so they probably have some issues to work out. We ordered five entrees and only four were given to us, so we had to drive all the way back to pick up the missing entree. They charged us for it, but for some reason forgot to make it and place it in the to go bag. The overall consensus is that no one was wowed by what they ordered. Portion sizes were decent, however, and their salsa had a nice kick to it. Otherwise, everything else was a little bland (notably the chips and plantains) or just generally not great (the chicken quesadilla had barely any chicken in it and way too much pico de gallo). Not sure we'd order from here again when there's better Mexican spots in the area. read more

Very disappointing. We started with the quesabirria appetizer, which had very little flavor and too much cheese. My wife ordered three steak street tacos, which were very dry. When she told the. server, and he said it was because it was grilled. Most restaurants would offer to make something else, not charge us or at least offer free dessert. Not here. I had the tampiquena. The steak was good, but the French fries were not great nor were the refried beans. The plantain was not ripe enough. My wife had to ask for water three times, and she finally had to cancel her drink order since she still had not gotten it when we were almost done with our meal. A definite must miss. read more

Recently there for an after work gathering. Drinks and dinner. Made it for happy hour and had the margaritas. Yummy and one can definitely taste the tequila!! We got seated quickly and the staff was very attentive and friendly. The food came out hot and timely. The complimentary chips and salsa were good. Started with some guacamole and a mix on empanadas. They were both tasty. My order of street tacos were delish. Everyone seemd to have enjoyed their meals. Dessert, I got the tres leches. Oh boy that's is some sweeeeeeeeet confection!! The chicken tacos were very bland and the steak tacos as well. The chicarron tacos were good except they had a lot of fat meaning greasy fat. I am not sure if I will return again!! We remember the old Olé Olé, and prefer the new ambiance. The light fixtures are unique and the bar is quaint and inviting. The menu isn't overwhelming in terms of size, but it's not disappointing either. We loved the food. I ordered Birria Tacos and my wife got the enchiladas with mole.
