I went through an odd phase where I was souring on Jersey City and figured Suffern would be closer to nature yet still commutable. I took the train up one day, but unfortunately I didn't revisit the town for another 17 years. My Mexican House was a random stop that turned out to be great. I've always been into tacos and in recent years gained a nearly dangerous fascination with cemitas, and a result I may have missed out on many great Mexican entrees over the years. In the chuleta a la diabla, the pork chops were perfectly done and the sauce was an awesome incendiary concoction somewhat like mole. The chips were warm and fresh, the salsa was zingy and the service was outstanding. read more

Came here with a group of friends on National Margarita Day!! We were promptly seated as the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. We immediately ordered four margaritas, which were good, just not the best ones I've ever had. For appetizers we all split the cheese empanadas, which were actually pretty amazing in my opinion. The portions were pretty generous, so all of us were able to have about 1.5 empanadas. The empanadas were served with red and green sauce, the red sauce is SPICY so be aware! For main course, I ordered the vegetarian chimichanga which I LOVED. It was so good and it tasted freshly made. Overall, was very happy with my experience here. Its not the fanciest restaurant but it was perfect for national margarita day! read more

Not great. You learn a lot about a Mexican restaurant from their salsa and chips. I've had better Mexican in Ohio.

AUTHENTIC Mexican food. I've been in Mexico for 3 months and I gotta say this is pretty dang authentic, the workers all are from Mexico, the food too is cheap, per dish was $10! It's insane. Heavily recommend going here if you want some good real Mexican food. Only thing is it took a little long, food was 20 minutes wait. Amazing ambience tho! read more

Incredibly authentic and humble Mexican restaurant with amazing flavor. The tacos, the enchiladas, the empanadas, even the salsa that came with the chips to start were incredibly flavorful and authentic. The customers- mostly Mexican. Family run and owned. Will be back 100 times. read more

Really enjoyed my visit to My Mexican House! Met up with a friend here who lives a bit far and it was worth the drive (about 45 minutes). Although a pitcher of the spicy margaritas were not listed on the menu, our waiter Eddie was more than happy to make us one. We expressed that most places don't spice up the margaritas well so he added a little extra jalapeno and some other spicy peppers too. He also added a certain spice with the salt rim to make it tasty too. Overall, I was very happy with the drink. I believe it was $34-36 for the pitcher and equaled to about 5-6 glasses which is great to share. I ordered the chorizo quesadillas which was served with refried beans, rice, sour cream, pico de gallo and a small side of guacamole (at no additional cost). I tried chorizo for the first time. I thought it was good but I would probably order chicken next time. I also don't normally have refried beans but I thought they were very flavorful. The meal was a good portion and filling. I look forward to returning if in the area again! read more

The beers are cold, the salsa is spicy and the tacos are delicious. I ended up here after a sunday afternoon drive with my family. I wish I would've known this was going to be one of the best authentic mexican restaurants before I walked in because now i have to drive 30-40 minutes every time i want mexican food now. read more

Was in the mood for Mexican, and I thought I'd give this place a try. Super fresh guacamole and tasty chicken fajitas. My friend ordered the cheese empanadas which could have used a little more cheese, but the dough was good. read more

Our unfortunate luck to get the waitress that was on her first day. Waited almost 30 mins for chips and salsa. After begging for food, a beef enchilada finally arrived. I ordered vegetarian fajitas. Epic failure. So what does a starving vegetarian do? Survive by eating around a pile of meat! Sad... read more

So excited to have found some excellent food!! You guys have such hearty and fresh choices. Always a great place to takeout from at the end of a long day. And the opposite attitude as that prick from Sushi Bada (incredible nice and great service every time). read more

Saw all the great reviews and went there but the experience was not really good. Service was slow because only one waiter was handling everything. Cocktails were extra sweet. Food was not great, it was less than ok. Nacho chips were cold and undercooked. I might come back some other time but I certainly wasn't impressed this time. read more

Who would've thought this hole in the wall with my grandmothers table clothes would be such an excellent dinner. The nachos are out of this world with crave worthy shredded chicken. Fantastic homemade salsa, grilled fish, empanadas, tacos with soft corn tortillas all homemade by the grandmother in the kitchen. They deliver which is music to my ears. The only negative would be the service. Our server didn't speak any English so Even though I pointed to the shrimp dish I wanted I received the wrong one. She also didn't come back to the table at all for more drinks or follow ups. BUT despite that...Love love love and can't wait to go back! read more

My family went to a place around the corner which had a 45 minute wait. I pulled up Yelp and hit location and many places caught my eye. When we pulled up to this place my husband and son were like no way place is a dump. We drove off and then came back around. OMG so glad we did. This place is the real deal. Menu is huge and food was fabulous. I can't wait to go back again to try something else. read more

When I walked in it was so clean! The service was great they checked in on us making sure we were ok at all times! The food, spectacular I haven't had such authentic Mexican food in a very long time! I really wanted to like it, but I can't. I went with some friends to try it out, and I have to wonder if I hit an off day. There are so many positive reviews, that I can't figure out what could have happened. They seem very nice. We will have to try it again, because everyone can have a bad day. read more

As always, I remind you that my ratings are based on the type of restaurant. I am giving My Mexican House five stars based on it being an inexpensive casual restaurant. I am not comparing it to a Michelin rated destination. If I did that it would receive fewer stars, but I don't think that is how most Yelp reviews are done. Walking into the restaurant, one is not particularly impressed. Towards the back, there is a small bar. Tables and seating are more or less 1960s luncheonette. However, the service is good, the prices are unbelievably cheap, and the food is far superior to Ole Ole. You can't miss the guacamole. This is the one non-inexpensive item at $7. However, it is freshly made, chunky, and delicious. They put out delicious salsa, with a kick, but not too spicy, as well. My wife and I both had steak dishes. They try some original things. I had a chipotle and cream sauce steak, which was very different, but quite good. My wife also had a steak dish, which was delicious. The portions are large and we did not have room for dessert. The menu is lengthy and I look forward to return trips. They appear to focus on more authentic Mexican fare, beyond the TexMex stuff purveyed all over the metro area, although you can certainly get that here. read more

Very disappointed. With a 4+ star rating we expected much better. Took 15 minutes to get water and chips. (Only 4 tables occupied)The chips were thick and overcooked. I had shrimp quesadillas: plenty of shrimp but cheese was thick and unmelted with not much seasoning. My husband's enchiladas were almost unrecognizable under the lettuce, green sauce, and other ingredients we could not identify. The rice that came with his dish was plain, white, unseasoned. An overall tasteless meal-- certainly not worth the calories! Would not recommend and will not be back read more

What a find. What a neighborhood gem. Pleasant atmosphere, attentive & accommodating staff. Big margaritas, low prices. Delicious entrees and authentic recipes. Came for Cinco de Mayo lunch, stayed most of the afternoon. Guacamole, quesadilla de Queso, tomatillo salsa all first class. When I asked for something not on the menu, it was questioned in the kitchen and immediately accommodated, my pollo y mole was amazingly delicious. A must to add to their varied menu. I also miss tamales. But of small consequence. I still like this quaint neighborhood gem. read more

The food here is authentic and DELICIOUS! This is not a five-star environment, but the food MORE than makes up for it. The refried beans and rice are some of the best I have ever had. Prime example of, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Don't drive by and judge this place based on its outside...The food is outstanding! The empanadas are made fresh and although I feel they don't have enough filling, the flavor is outstanding! read more

It's finally time for a review. My Mexican House is the best Mexican restaurant in Suffern. Of the half-dozen or so mexican places, My Mexican House offers a great mix of the expected and unexpected. Starting off with the chips and salsa, the chips are house fried, and the salsa is great with nice pieces of diced onion, cilantro, and a hint of vinegar! Delicious! There are the usual tacos, burritos and enchiladas, but also huaraches. Enchiladas are served two ways... either 5(!) enchiladas covered in lettuce, crema and avocado, or 3 enchiladas with rice & beans. Interestingly, they're listed under 'Appertivos.' Try the molé. It's great! I'll often order the nachos as an entree. Just the right size for a meal, and also covered with a nice portion of guacamole. Despite what a few others have said, it's very easy to get a vegetarian meal here. Mexican beers, sodas and 'too sweet' margaritas are available. Service is friendly, though sometimes distracted. There's piped-in mexican music. The only thing missing is customers!!! Where is everyone? Hacienda? Limon y Sal? ¿Por que? They're not as good! This is a strong 4-1/2 stars! read more

Ordered the carnitas, steak, and al pastor taco plates. Amazing flavor, very fresh and made to order. We will be back!!

Stopped here for lunch and everything was delicious! Great nachos, delicious & hot homemade salsa, and the dishes we ordered (chicken enchilada platter, cheese enchilada platter, and a chicken dish) were all delicious and large portions. The chicken came with homemade tortillas too! read more

I think we got the wrong things. I love Mexican food, but the food here was pretty lousy. The shrimp cocktail was in a bizarrely sweet tomato sauce that was completely out of place. Brushed the sauce off the shrimp as best I could, and enjoyed it with the chipotle sauce. Pork chops were covered in an insanely salty sauce that overpowered any other flavors. read more

After not coming to this place for a while decided to come back. Ordered guacamole. Or was bland and needed spice, cilantro, salt, etc. quesadilla was ok. Tacos were dry. Margarita was waaay too sweet. Fried chicken special was two tiny pieces of chicken and while I asked for dark meat they brought out breast. The kicker was that the chicken was precooked. Like boiled in soup, then fried. Awful. Fajitas were dry over cooked and bland. Pork chops were tasty. Shrimps tasted off. Thought this would be a good Mexican experience but this place went the way of the rest suffern mex places - mediocrity. read more

The food was very yummy! It definitely hit the spot, and the portions were generous. I am not a local and wasn't sure where to eat but was craving Mexican. The Yelp reviews looked promising, the pictures of the food looked delicious, and we were able to have it delivered to our hotel through Seamless, so we went for it. We almost didn't because half the items on the menu in the Yelp pictures had typos, but don't let that scare you off! We had the beef chimichanga and the beef fajitas and were both very happy with our order! read more
