Stopped by this place while with a group of seven while walking through the town and wow--super glad we did! The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff were super friendly. We didn't have to wait or make a reservation. We ordered a variety of food (I got the enchiladas, my friends got the quesadillas ), and were all packed with flavor. The empanadas were super fresh, and the chips were warm and crispy--major bonus. Everything tasted homemade and just really hit the spot. Service was great too--our server was chill, gave us good recs, and kept things moving without rushing us. Overall, it's a solid go-to if you're craving good Mexican food in the area. Agave is an underrated Mexican restaurant in downtown Cranford. It's in a great location and never too busy. Out of all the Mexican restaurants in town, I like the food here best. Although they don't have a bar, if you bring alcohol they can make margaritas, mojitos or sangria. We had the white sangria which was yummy! I really liked the beef empanada I had for an app and the tostados were delicious! For a group of 7 the bill was just about $150 so everything was reasonably priced. We'll be back! read more

Very disappointed in the food I ordered this evening. The chicken on the nachos, quesadilla and burrito was extremely dry. They forgot to put the sour cream and Pico de gallo for the quesadilla in the bag. The nachos also barely had any fixings on it. Honestly, Chipotle would have been more satisfying. My previous dine in experience was great. But I won't be returning or ordering again after this experience. One last thing if you order from this place, stay away from any grilled pork dishes, nothing but fat bits they give you. It was nice for the manager to refund me the entire order after my wife called. Changing the 2 star rating to 3. Customer service at least is on point. read more

My wife and I visited on a very quiet Sunday evening. There was only one other table occupied and 30 minutes later, another 4 people entered. My wife and I scored a table at the very front of the restaurant and people watched. It's a BYOB, so we brought two of our favorite beers. We were not offered glasses for our beers and instead drank from the can. We began our meal with the chips and guacamole. Excellent portion and the chips were nice and salty. I love salty chips. Guacamole was tasty. Very nice start. My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas and I ordered the steak fajitas. My wife thought her enchiladas were soupy. They were swimming in the green sauce and they were heavy on the sour cream. She enjoyed them but the presentation was not desirable. Knowing this, she would have ordered everything on the side. My fajitas were excellent. Nice portion of the tasty steak, peppers, and onions. I wish I had an extra flour tortilla or two. The service was good and the prices were very reasonable. Finally tried Agave a few months ago after eyeing it for quite some time! The Shrimp quesadillas have been my go-to when I go to any kinda of mexican place! The quesadilla was super cheesy and delicious with plenty of shrimp inside! In my opinion, the best dish was the Queso Fundido! My spouse and I went in on a Sunday night. I had the pork tacos. They meal came with four flour tacos and they were delicious. My spouse had beef burritos and was very pleased. The server was very pleasant and did a great job. I don't come here enough and need to change that. read more

Haven't been to Cranford in a long time but was there today for the street fair. Unimpressed by the food truck selection I stopped into this cute and affordable Mexican eatery and was glad I did! I had the Tinga Burrito, which was chicken with rice, beans, cheese and Pico de gallo with a tomato chipotle sauce. It was absolutely yummy and came with nicely seasoned fries and tortilla chips with two different sauces. A lot of carbs but still very tasty. The waitress was very friendly and attentive but also left me be to enjoy my meal and the beautiful day and it was a perfect day for the provided outdoor dining. I'd definitely go there again when back this way. Only drawback is they don't serve alcohol, so all the drinks are virgin. At Agave, the food was good and the price was right. We made a reservation for a Friday night at 6pm and the vast majority of their indoor tables had signs on them setting them aside as reserved, so it seems to be a good thing that we did make that call. The interior was modern, cute, and indulgent. Staff wear masks and gloves but we were not asked to. Small issue though -- the staff hangs out in their bar area, and we then had to witness some unhygienic habits they had whilst wearing the gloves. Their guacamole was terrific, probably the best I ever had. I liked my Salmon Al Pastor well enough, though I did think it was lacking a bit in flavor. I would've asked for salt and pepper shakers to fix that but our waitress didn't stop by again while we were eating our entrees. The portions for all meals were generous. Would return! read more

A nice new Mexican Restaurant in Cranford. Convenient parking across the street in the municipal lot if there is none on the street. Waitstaff are lovely and attentive. Guacamole is worth it. Homemade chips and a decent portion. But be prepared as they don't serve chips and salsa that we all expect when eating Mexican. No sides with the meals it's all ala carte. The Birrira Tostados where tasty and the meat very tender, but it cried for some balance maybe pico de galleo or crema. The tostados tings were similarly good but needed some acid too. We tried the lime we had on the table for our drinks, it helped. But definitely worth a visit. read more

If I'm being frank, I'm surprised by all the good reviews. My husband and I were in the mood for Mexican food and decided to give Agave MX a try and to our surprise, it was a serious let down. Upon entering the establishment, there was no one there to greet us so we waited about 5 minutes just standing awkwardly in front of everyone at their tables (the layout of the restaurant makes for a weird entrance). Despite that, we still were ready to enjoy some "good" food. We ordered the nachos for our app and that was def a 4/5. It was our main entrees that disappointed us. I had the enchiladas and my husband had another dish and didn't rave about it at all. The enchiladas lacked the flavor I was looking for, and the rice and refined beans tasted old and dry. Also, we were bummed that Agave didn't have an adult beverage list, but rather it was BYOB. Since it was freezing thY day, we decided not to walk to a nearby LQ store and settle for the Pineapple Jarritos, which was fine. Overall, it's unlikely that we'll return to Agave because the customer service was a bit slow, and the food was pretty mediocre. read more

Nonetheless, the food is good and reasonably priced and the staff is sweet. We will return. The tacos were much too oily, but the contents--salmon; shredded pork--were good. If you haven't tried Agave in cranford yet - GO! It is SUCH delicious Mexican food. We've been ordering takeout from there once a week (fine - sometimes twice a week...) for the past month and are totally in love. We intentionally double our order so we can have leftovers for lunch the following day ... The short rib tacos are amazing. As are the salmon tacos, the shredded pork tacos, the fresh made guacamole -- all of it. To top it off, the customer service is amazing. I am a allergic to onions and they have been so great at keeping onions out of our entire order. Tonight for the first time - the salmon tacos ended up with onions on them. I called and the manager apologized, made a new order of salmon tacos, and drove them to my house in Westfield. Can't tell you how thrilled I am with this new spot! Thank you Agave! read more

I went with my friend earlier this week. We were surprised that the place was really empty when we came in. There wasn't a single table filled with people. Of course we were immediately seated. The girl was super attentive. We got some chicken nachos as an appetizer, and they were delicious. The flavors were really good, and they gave a good serving size for the two of us. Then for entrees we got green sauce enchiladas and shrimp quesadillas. My friend loved the green sauce enchiladas, and I have to say I didn't love the quesadillas. They were supposed to come with pico de gallo, and they didn't. They gave it to me with a crema blanca. Then the quesadillas themselves only tasted of butter. And while I love butter as much as the next person, it felt like too much. I wouldn't recommend those personally. Great food and atmosphere. We sat outside and it was a little chilly so they out the heaters on. That made it nice and cozy. I had a BLT wedge salad. It was incredible. Dined here on a recent Saturday night date night with my wife. The food was average, not bad but certainly not over the top. We were turned off just a bit when we noticed that an automatic "service charge" of $10.62 was added to our bill. I asked what that was for and our server told us it was a tip. I've never been to a restaurant where the tip was added automatically for a table for two. Decided to take the high road and added additional $15 tip because I feel sorry for anyone in the restaurant business but I will not go here again and I cannot recommend Agave to my friends. Really good authentic place. I had the car now I saw the tacos and they came on corn tortillas which is really authentic with onions and cilantro which is also authentic. The berria tacos with the side soup was amazing and authentic as well. Only wish they had salsa with tomato onions cilantro on the table to eat with chips. The horatcha was great too! Not impressed. I ordered the chicken fajitas. It came with what seemed 1/3 of a chicken breast mixed with onion and peppers, rice, refried beans, guacamole and 4 small tortillas. My husband ordered the short rib burrito which came with French fries. The burrito was stuffed mostly with rice and just a small amount of meat. Both our orders were lacking in flavor. Food is definitely more "Americanized" then authentic. On a Friday evening there were barely any customers.
