This is a small family owned restaurant. We ordered Vegitarian Fajitas they were seasoned and cooked beautifully. We have eaten here on a busy dinner service and loved the food so we came back to try the breakfast only to find that they don't serve breakfast. Still we were given coffee perfectly brewed to my personal taste, not too strong and not too weak. They added scrambled eggs to our Vegitarian Fajitas which were delicious and every component was fresh and tasty. I really appreciated the authentic flavor and take on a classic dish especially because it was vegetarian which was something new to me. Well it's been a while since we've gone here or to any mexican restaurant actually. The food is very rich and full of calories so we don't indulge so much in the cuisine. We got to thinking about the chile relleno they have here though and that's what we ordered. That and their fish tacos. Time has been good to them I must say thank goodness. The rellenos are STILL to die for and the best we've had anywhere else. They are smoky, fresh and the sauce is killer but does not overwhelm the whole plate. They don't overdue it with the cheese either. The fish in the tacos were NOT deep fried but were grilled and also not overwhelmed in iceberg lettuce and yellow cheese. Quite the opposite.. tasted fresh and delicious. They still do not bring chips to the table unless you order guacamole which we also did. It was made fresh and not from a mix. Speaking of mixes however, the margaritas ARE made from a mix. My 2nd margarita however was not as I asked if I could have one made sans mix. They call those "skinny" margaritas and was 100% better. I trusted fellow Yelpers on this one. My husband suggested Acapulco for a Mexican dinner but I was wanting something less commercial and remembered seeing this place in Gresham. It was a pleasant surprise. We were starving and I talked so long on the 30 minute car trip there, about how I was going to eat the crap out of the chips when we got there, but found they do not give you chips to eat the crap out of when you get there, but a little refried bean soft taco thing that was maybe even better than it was just because we were starving. The red salsa they gave us was so good I could have eaten it with a spoon and no not just because I was starving. I ordered the beef fajitas and my husband got the combo plate with a burrito and enchilada then added a taco. I thought the taco would be crunchy, but it was a soft traditional style. There was plenty of beef in the fajitas which I was glad to see. The place is small and clean. It was 8pm on Sunday night and they were still busy. I thought that was a good sign. The guy taking our order seemed very new since the waitress kept correcting him. When it came time to take our order, he undid our napkin and wrote the order on the napkin paper ring. I was not sure if that was totally Gresham awesome or totally OH MY GOD did I seriously just see that. The enchilada and burrito were identical except for the sauces. My husband was looking for a big burrito like the other tables were getting and the waiter insisted it was a burrito even though it was wrapped like an enchilada and very small. The flavor saved them on this one. We are still not convinced his napkin-paper ring-order-taking-skills are that legit and my husband may not have gotten exactly what he wanted. We were traveling from out of town and found this place on Yelp. Was excited to see the many reviews and stars so we gave it a shot. Sadly were very disappointed in the quality of food. We were the only people in the entire place. First off thought it was quite odd you received a bean taco (shell not homemade) when you sit down vs salsa and chips. Second the rice tastes like it came out of a box along with the black beans tasted like it came out of a can. Being very familiar with quality Mexican I think this place in Portland is missing the boat. read more

Let's face it: Every other restaurant is a Mexican restaurant, but finding good Mexican food is tough to do. Not only that, good Mexican restaurants, evolve into bad Mexican restaurants because they give the people what they want in order to stay in business - apparently the people want canned refried beans covered in a yellow waxy substance. Agave Azul serves up unique and tasty Mexican fare. Their Chili Relleno is currently the best in town. Their Carmarones a la Diabla will raise a bead of sweat on your forehead. Their application of spices is skillful, creative, and delicious. They have a great bar, but don't order wine because it comes out of a box - really. While I don't like the video poker machines, if they allow the place to stay in business without compromising the food, then that's a good thing. Also the sound on he poker machines is turned off, so it's not too bad. Hopefully they won't evolve into another bad Mexican restaurant, but you better hurry and eat there quick just in case. read more

Old converted house, good use of space. Excellent food! They are a little off the beaten path in Gresham so you have to look for them when driving on Powell. Friendly almost home cooked atmosphere. They give tortilla and beans instead of the usual Mexican restaurant's chips and salsa. Which I have to admit caught me off guard but after thinking about it, I appreciated it. I was able to eat and enjoy my delicious food without feeling like I gorged on chips before dinner. They have a banquet area in the basement and a full service bar. This is a small place, so I get that there isn't a lot of room for a ton of staff, but both visits, it was a half hour between order and service. The Enchiladas and Chile Rellanos are pretty good, the chorizo and cheese appetizer, not so much. Also, trying to call ahead for a to-go order is a nice idea, but my last attempt had me put 'on hold,' which was code for putting the phone down on the counter and forgetting I was there. I've been a customer for going on ten years. It is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to and I take anyone I can to eat there. It seems like a family business. The same servers have been there all along. They are fantastic and keep things moving but never rush you. The food is homemade and it feels and tastes like you're visiting someone's abuela's house. Abuela wants to feed you until you pop. They serve delicious little bean tacos as a complimentary appetizer. The menu is expansive but not too much so. Everything on it is a well thought out specialty. The nachos are perfect. The chips are not piled up. Each chip has cheese and beans and meat on it, with the chips spread evenly on the plate. My favorite is the carne asada. I'm serious when I say it's one of the most flavorful and tasty pieces of beef I've had in my life. Full bar. It is 100% worth visiting this place. I love it so much. Fantastic neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Friendly and welcoming where the bartender always remembers your name. Food is good and not saturated with cheese like other Mexican places. Our family recently ate here and they seated us on the patio because of the size of our group. We still had excellent service on the patio. The food was as authentic as what we have in So Cal. The proportions were large. We would recommend the Chili rellenos and Enchiladas. They serve great Michaeladas. The prices are reasonable considering the quality and quantity of the food. read more

Stopped in for happy hour, very busy. Tried the 3 fish tacos for $9. You can do breaded or fried. I'm gluten free so ordered the fried came out breaded so had to return for fried. For $3 a piece at happy hour I expect a 'decent ' taco, these were not. Oh my goodness. I've been coming here for years and never left a review. Firstly the appetizer they bring you (is free btw) is so yummy! A tortilla with refried beans and cheese sprinkled on top, not sure what it's called but it's sooooo good! The margaritas are amazing. I get a big buzz from just one drink! Love it The portions are smaller than regular restaurants but sorry that's why all Americans are fat- y'all eat more than you need to!
