The facility is clean, organized, and always feels safe. It was a brand-new school when we first enrolled, and they have continued to maintain the property and improve their operations over time. There is also plenty of parking, which makes drop-off and pick-up very convenient for parents. One thing I truly appreciate is how the school continuously strives to improve and enhance safety for the children. Over the years, they have implemented several positive changes, such as installing doorbell alerts when classroom doors are opened, tracking and documenting classroom attendance to ensure every child is accounted for, and upgrading their communication system. We scoured Yelp for some answers and landed on Sunshine School. Sunshine made that transition so much easier for us. I still remember our very first tour. One of the students came up and befriended Ellie while we were there -- and the two of them ended up being friends all the way through their last day of preschool together. It feels like such a perfect little snapshot of our experience at Sunshine. The teachers truly cared about Ellie, and she loved every one of her teachers from the very beginning. They put so much effort into creating fun projects and activities for the kids, and we loved watching how much she learned and grew there. Special shoutouts go to Ms. Lu, Ms. Yula, Ms. Jenny, Ms. Carole, Ms. Summer, and Ms. Kelly! We also really appreciated the Mandarin immersion. I don't speak much Mandarin myself (my high school Mandarin course is but a distant memory here), but Ellie's dad and grandparents do, so having her encouraged to hear, learn, and actually use the language at school has been such wonderful exposure for her. She came home singing songs, using words and phrases, and clearly feeling comfortable with the language in a way I never could have given her on my own. More than anything, Sunshine became a place where we felt comfortable leaving our daughter every day -- which, for an anxious first-time preschool parent, is probably the highest compliment I can give. And I think the most telling review is this: we'll be back. We have a younger child, and when he's old enough, we fully plan to enroll him at Sunshine too. The school uses an app that allows for easy communication with the teachers, and we are kept up to date on lunch menu, curriculum, and photos. The school is comprehensive in their social activities such as annual winter performance, holiday celebrations, parent teacher conferences, family events, etc. The kids also have regular music and kung fu classes. The school is bilingual English/Mandarin, with a daily Mandarin language learning component, so it is helpful to have some exposure to the language and culture so the kids can understand better, and the lunches are sometimes Chinese meals. Currently he's in the red room and his teachers are Ms Zhila and Ms Ma. He's learned so much in a short time, he's doing addition, teaching me about matter, and planting vegetables. His teachers are so kind, dedicated, and caring. One of the biggest perks is that the provide lunch and snacks. My son always finishes his lunch and we're told he asks for seconds. We receive the monthly lessons and weekly photos. There are also activities happening every month, in addition to music class and kung fu. They also still continue nap time even in the red room so your child gets some rest after lunch. The school provides a great balance of academic and social skills. The students are majority Chinese and there are daily Chinese lessons. I loved the fact they considered to ask how my son was at home and they asked several questions to assess which class he should start in. Not because of his physical size. Being that this was my son's first everrrrrrrrr time in school and he never went to daycare; they eased us and him into adjusting to this new routine and separation. And the Early Preschool teachers did an AAAAAAAMAAAZING job doing so; they encouraged him and established trust slowly but surely; which as parents were truly helpful and calming. The assurance from the teachers were so helpful because this was also our first time sending a kid to school. I put my kid in a Montessori for a week, they used to call every day complaining that my kid was crying or pulling the cabinets etc. I changed him to Happy hearts academy and never ever received a call (except when he is sick), they made sure my kid was happy and got adjusted to the environment. I can't thank Ms. Rupa and Ms. Rekha enough for their effort and passion towards the children. I should also mention that the price is also very reasonable for Bay Area.
