I am a senior citizen and my husband has a disability and cannot walkwell, so I had no idea what to do or who to call. I called a family memeber and she suggested Blue Collar as one of her co workers used them and were extremely satisfied. Within hours after I called, a technician was in our home to assess the issue. The technician explained to us that the hot water heater needed to be replaced but he would bring a new one out the following day. He stayed true to his word , he was honest about the price and respectful of our home, even though he worked only in our basement. When the work was done, it was quality from top to bottom. Literally - I tried to learn a bit about roofing because it's probably the largest purchase we've made besides our house and cars - and the team from CSG did lots of stuff that I learned mattered. I hired PV Roofing and Construction to sand and stain our wooden floors. PV in turn hired a…read morecompany to do the work, and that company did a very nice job. PV's role was to clear out the furniture from the rooms, inspect the workmanship, and move the furniture back in. In the course of moving the furniture, PV caused significant damage, which they refused to remedy. In the 44 years that I have lived in my house, I have dealt many service companies and never had such a negative experience as this one. Here is what happened: The company's owner, Juan Martinez, told me up front that "we are not a moving company" and "can't be responsible if [items] get damage/ scratch[ed]." Accordingly, I moved everything myself except for very heavy items such as couches and tables. When Mr. Martinez arrived with his crew, he asked if he may remove a sliding patio door in order to move the furniture out the back of the house. I told him not to do this because it would be difficult to get the door back on its track. He did not follow my instructions and left the door frozen in the closed position. When I pointed this out to him, Mr. Martinez brought in a door "expert" who told him that the door frame was rotten and was not repairable. The fact is that I had new rollers installed a year ago, and the door functioned perfectly before PV arrived. Mr. Martinez argued that the door was near the end of its useful life, and he is not responsible for repairing it. Dismayed, I gave him a check for the balance that I owed him. After Mr. Martinez left, I discovered that he had also broken the arm of an expensive dining room chair. Mr. Martinez admitted that he had tried lifting the chair by its arm but claimed that he is not responsible because PV is not a moving company. My contention was that his disclaimer did not absolve him from negligence. At that point I stopped the check and hired two companies to repair the damage. One company restored the door to its prior condition, and the second took the chair to its shop for repair. This process took one week, during which time Mr. Martinez sent me several abusive letters and threatened to sue me. He also refused to submit a claim to his insurance company. Both repairs turned out to be inexpensive, and I deducted the cost from the balance owed to PV, which I sent to Mr. Martinez. I advise anyone who wishes to hire PV Construction to insist on a written contract and make sure that the company is bonded.
