Today my husband and I stopped in for lunch, and unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. This used to be one of my favorite spots, but the past few visits have really gone downhill. We ordered a to-go meal for our son and were assured it would come out toward the end of our meal. Instead, it was delivered to our table before our own food even arrived and by the manager, no less. I even commented, "Wow, our to-go before our meal," but he just looked at me. No apology, no offer to keep it warm, remake it, nothing. Meanwhile, the couple next to us waited over an hour for a turkey sandwich. They were not happy with their experience either. On top of that, one of the wait staff kept skipping the entire time....literally skipping through the dining room, which felt unprofessional and uncomfortable to watch. As for the food, my salad was excellent, as always (the one consistent highlight), but my husband's breakfast was ice cold... eggs, hash browns, and French toast. He left most of it on his plate it was that bad. Sadly, we won't be back for brunch, at least not for a while. Afton has been making a comeback. Back in the day Afton was THE spot to eat and see everyone you knew in town. It slipped a bit when the owners were opening other restaurants and the business was left a bit unattended. But we recently have come back and have not been disappointed with the service or the food. Im so happy to see it's back to being in our rotation. I will however, warn anyone with sensory issues, they use some kind of cleaner on their tables that the inside restaurant smells extremely strong of this cleaner. But they do have a large patio seating area which is smell free. read more

I enjoyed my visit to Afton Tavern. We went during lunch time, had no problem with parking, and we were sat pretty quickly. The restaurant is pretty big. The outdoor patio has lots of seating, fans, and a fireplace. The bar area was a nice size with a few high top tables. The dining room was pretty big as well, with a rather large private area. I also appreciate the mix of booths and traditional tables. The menu has a good variety of dishes. I tried the Balsamic Glazed chicken with Sweet Potato Fries and broccoli. I greatly underestimated how many mushrooms and onions would be included. Nonetheless, I liked the chicken. The fries were my favorite though. Our waitress was fine. Not memorably friendly or anything, but nice and the service was fast. Final note, this is a family friendly restaurant. They have the basic kids menu items. read more

Cozy little pub. The area is nice and I love the fireplace outside! Inside has a lot of seating! Our server was very nice. I ordered the cosmo and it was ok. It was good for the price but nothing special. For my meal, I got the steak philly with fries. The fries were really good and crunchy! The cheese steak was a little bland. I wish it had more spices and seasonings or a stronger cheese on top. The cookie skillet was really good!! I loved the warm and gooey cookies with the ice cream on top! Our family group of 6 went for lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and had a delightful experience. The kids got grilled cheese and chicken fingers (of course), and both were good, although the chicken could have been just a bit crispier. My daughter and I got the bean burger, which is a soft, very 'beaney' burger, but quite tasty! It is served on a big, soft bun, with a mound of condiments. My son-in-law got the club, which was a mound of deliciousness that he thoroughly enjoyed. My wife went a completely different direction and got the shrimp kabobs, which was a bargain at $14, and a mound of veggies, rice, and shrimp. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food, and the service was great! We sat on the patio, so the bartender was our server. She brought 'to-go' cups with refills, so we could top off all our drinks as needed, she checked in regularly and made sure we had the necessary condiments, to-go boxes, and everything else we needed. The restaurant was clean and there were TV's on the patio for those who want to watch whatever sports are on. Overall, a very good experience! read more

I've been eating out at Afton Tavern for years . Last night I ate there again and was terribly disappointed. I ordered aReuben sandwich . It was the worse Reuben I have had anywhere. The meat ,I think it was corn beef, but hard to tell since it was burned beyond recognition. There was hardly any sauerkraut and Russian dressing on it. Everything was overcooked. Not sure what is going on there. I've ordered the Reuben before when eating here and it was delicious. read more

Ok so first impressions weren't great. Both my and my daughter's silverware were dirty and needed to be replaced. The waiter was a little slow at first in his service but got better towards the end of the meal. Little things like bringing out plates with a shared appetizer were overlooked. That being said, the food and drink were outstanding. There was a decent variety of draft beer available and the house salad was delicious and fresh. The fish and chips I ordered came in a generous portion and malt vinegar, which I consider a must for fish and chips, was readily available. I wasn't able to even finish my meal due to the size of it which is a definite plus. I would definitely like to come back and give them a second chance. read more

Very nice atmosphere! Both inside and outside dining available. Parking was good. They offer paper menus and staff are all wearing masks which is great for everyone's safety. The waitress was very prompt in acknowledging us and taking our food & drink orders. I ordered a peach martini which was reasonably priced and tasty along with a BBQ Chicken Flatbread. The food just didn't have an appealing presentation, but it tastes ok which is why I gave an overall 3. The cookie skillet we had for dessert was good. This place is really delicious! Everything I've ever ordered from here has been amazing. You can tell they use fresh veggies and ingredients to make their food. They have a great beer/wine menu as well. The staff is usually very friendly and on top of it, even if they are busy, which they usually are! It's a great spot to grab a bite or a drink with family and friends. They have ample seating both inside and outside as well, with beautiful fireplaces and fairy lights on the patio in the evenings!! Afton Tavern is a local place that we just discovered, and we will definitely be back! We went on a Friday night, and while they were busy, we had a really good time. Our server was young and quiet, but very attentive and if he didn't know the answer, he found out and told us. We started with the house wine and a basket of freshly made chips. The chips were very, very good. For my entree, I ordered the shrimp tacos. I love that you can mix and match your 3 tacos, so I got 2 of them crispy and one of them grilled. They were delicious! My side of broccoli was really good too. My fiance enjoyed his chicken and dumplings soup, as well as his build-your-own burger. We were able to sit outside and have a wonderful time. read more

Tonight was a night out with the neighbors. They made the call to visit Afton Tavern for dinner. It ended up being a great venue for a night out. We got great service and good food. Even though it was a bit nippy we chose to dine outside. The large stone fireplace was roaring and overhead heaters were exuding enough heat to be comfortable. The tables were distanced far enough apart. the lighting was sufficient. The atmosphere was great. The highlight of the night was our server, Mitch, who did a bang up job of taking care of us. He was prompt to take our orders and follow up multiple times. He took our orders without an order book. He memorized everything we ordered as well as every modification we made. He was great. Yes, our orders came out 100% correct. Our food was good. I got the grilled salmon salad and added avocado. The bleu cheese dressing I got with it was delicious. Two of my party ordered Burgers with sides of chips and one side of sweet potato fries. One person ordered a grilled chicken avocado sandwich. Everyone left happy. We got a few drinks from the bar. I got peach martini that good but slightly too sweet. One person got a dream sickle martini. It was better than my drink. Two people selected beers from their vast selection of national and local beers. The bar did good. My only suggestion to the restaurant is to get their sanitation grade up. They have too of a thing going to carry a 93.0 sanitation grade. read more

The outside terrace was nice but we choose to sit inside. Mistake no. one. Inside atmosphere was dreary and showed wear. Service lacked warmth of any degree from the hostess to the wait staff. They couldn't have cared less that people were there. The food was mediocre and easily available in any casual dining restaurant. The French fries were not fresh and coated in the crispy coating that covers the natural flavor of the potato and leaves one with a salt induced headache. Won't be going back. read more

Firstly I don't usually write reviews, however I feel like I need to let someone here know about the night I experienced. I've come here quite a few times, and everything's usually good. Last night however we missed the mark. The food was not good and took way to long. Potatoes undercooked, sandwiches where soggy and the veg had "cooked" from the hot meat sitting on it. Others food came out incorrect and had to be remade. As far as service goes it was great always nice people, just spending 100$ on dinner with my family for a birthday on food that wasn't that good kinda killed it. read more

My burger was extremely over cooked and burnt, my moms fries were ice cold and our waters had some sort of particles floating in it... which comes from a dirty ice machine. My glass also had dirty residue on the outside of it, almost like hardened food. Again, nothing against our waiter. The kitchen needs some major improvement. Have eaten at several restaurants in this area, and decided to finally visit this one. Outside, the building is very welcoming and even boasts an outdoor fireplace with seating. Upon entering, we waited just a couple minutes until the hostess came to seat us. They weren't busy in the dining area at the time. She was not friendly nor cordial. We were sat at a booth in the back right next to the entrance to the kitchen. After sitting, the pungent aroma of what I can only describe as a "stagnant water smell" was very heavy. We decided to move to another location in the restaurant, and when questioned by our original server, she was very short and rude once i told her the issue that caused it. When getting settled in, it was noticeable she went over to the older woman hostess who was hanging out in their bar area and complained about the situation (both also turned in our direction to look where we were headed to while chatting). Our new server was Bailee, and she was kind about the situation. We ordered Homemade Chips and ranch for an app. It was requested that they be left on the "floppy" side instead of fried hard. When they arrived, it was noticeable that they paid zero attention to the request. They were extremely hard, and verged on the line of being burnt. Both adults ordered The Tavern Burger cooked medium rare (warm red center) and Mac n cheese as well as sweet potato fries as sides. We waited a good bit for our food, and once it arrived and we began eating, we noticed the burgers were well done. At this point we were hungry, so we dealt with it. The flavors were decent. The Mac n cheese is mediocre and so were the sweet potato fries. Our child had the kids chicken fingers with a side of the Mac n cheese as well. The chicken tenders are actually very good, and even better with the BBQ sauce they offer. Our service was okay, but definitely could have been better. To be honest, I doubt we will ever go back. Thy really should work on their customer service skills, update their interior and menu. Then it might be worth a glance. C'est la Vie! read more

We tried Afton Tavern twice now. We will not be returning. They have VERY skimpy portions on their sandwiches forcing you to up charge to add double meat (which by the way is ridiculous) My husband ordered a Ruben with double meat and it came with 2 1/8" thin slices of corned beef for almost $20. If you want a good cocktail this is not the place to go unless you like fruit juice in a martini glass. The only thing giving this review 2 stars is that the servers both times were very good. With all the restaurants a person has to choose from a restaurant. Owner has to understand that you need to serve a plate of food and a cocktail that makes a person want to come back and order it again. We will not be returning to this restaurant. read more
