A special lady once referred me to the place and I haven't looked back since...Sure, it's a bit cramped for eating in but maybe London people need to get over their extreme fear of having their personal space invaded once in a while. Takeout is quick since all they do is heat it up, and my one complaint is that the rice is massively overpriced..Easy fix for this: cook the rice at home, yeah? Try it out anyway. read more

An amazingly delicious and simple menu. We would go to AK more if the place wasn't so tiny and always packed. They also do not take reservations. You're left either going very early or waiting for a quite a long time to grab a seat. Despite this, it is one of the better restaurants in Angel. read more

This was a great introduction to Afghan food! The dishes were all amazing, I had the lamb with spinach, rice & pumpkin with yoghurt & fresh bread. Afghan Kitchen is located opposite Islington Green, its quite nondescript in that you may end up walking past it, so keep a look out for it!. Its a small restaurant spread over two floors, it gets quite busy, so get there early or book in advance or do a takeaway, the food is persian, so its spicy, but damn DELICIOUS. I went with a couple of friends to the Afghan Kitchen recently. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I was positively surprised by the quality of the food. It's a perfect restaurant for sharing, so we all had different dishes and could try pretty much everything on the menu. The bread is freshly baked and can sometimes take a while to arrive, but don't be put off by it, the bread is simply wonderful. Many of the dishes do contain yoghurt, so you might want to give the yoghurt drink a miss and opt for a different beverage! The best way to describe it is like a liquid tzatziki... Anyway, the food was delicious and also reasonably priced. It's not the biggest restaurant, so you might have to wait for a while, so it's better to book a table. DONT FORGET _ CASH ONLY read more

I must admit that I've never before had the opportunity to sample Afghan cuisine so I haven't got anything to compare Afghan Kitchen to, but after eating here I can certainly say that I'll be inviting people to go for an Afghan one evening soon. Afghan Kitchen is small and cosy with a handful of tables and a minuscule menu, but every dish tastes fantastic, from the creamy daal to the gorgeous fish and potato stew. Prices are very reasonable considering the massive portions, service is efficient and food gets to your table at the speed of light. A new favourite spot. read more

Hidden gem in Islington! A small restaurant just off the high street serving delicious afghan food. The menu is small but everything is delicious. We were a group of 5 and tried all of the vegetarian dishes along side the freshly baked bread. The pumpkin was particularly good. Would definitely recommend for something a little different, but it is pretty small so call ahead to book or be prepared to wait a little bit for a table. Cosy, good food, casual, good value for money.

We are huge fans of Afghan Kitchen. The curries are lovely and great when you want some good take out. I normally get take out since the restaurant is always packed. One negative is that if you ask for your food to be heated when getting take away, they heat it in the plastic container. If you are afraid of cancer, heat it up at home. We always order the pumpkin with yogurt and the chicken curry. I don't think the bread is worth the wait. read more

I was recommended to this place by a friend but unfortunately, the dining experience wasn't that great... First of all, the place is tiny! Only 4 tables and we had to share with others. The place can't really be defined as a restaurant nor a cafe - it's more like a canteen. The mains are £7.50 and does not come with rice and the rice are overpriced at £3.50. In spite that the food do taste pretty good, the over all dining experience wasn't that great and on top of that they do charge 10% service in the bill. In conclusion, I wouldn't go there again and I won't recommend it... it's overpriced and it wasn't a comfortable dining experience. Also, CASH ONLY. read more

I went with 6 friends for my birthday and we all enjoyed it greatly. It's been a long time since I left a place as full and satisfied as that. The Chicken in yoghurt was superb and the fresh bread to mop up the sauce was a definite plus. It worked out at about 13 quid per person for the food which is tip top. And the vegetarian options were enough to satisfy the veggies among us. Definitely recommended. Book in advance though as it's tiny and by about 8 there were a tonne of people turned away. read more

I have often seen this tiny restaurant while either waiting for the bus or walking past on my way to a bar. I didn't have a clue what the food was like and didn't know anyone who had been there either . A couple of weeks ago curiosity got the better of me and I decided to have lunch there with a friend. Afghan Kitchen really has to be the smallest restaurant I have and ever been to and the large window facing the street and just metres away from the bus stop was a bit strange. I thought the interior was slightly clinical but reserved judgement till the food arrived. The menu was`also the the smalles t I've ever seen but then I've always been a firm believer in quality not quatity. Not familiar with Afghani food I really did not know what to expect but my lamb and spinach dish didn't have any kick. My friend had the bean curry and she said it was so mild they should've called it bean stew. So I've tried Afghan Kitchen but I doubt I'll be going back- the food was overpriced and pretty bland and the service could have been much better. read more

Super food. really unusual cousine, a lot different than what you get in typical asian restaurants. friendly atmosphere due to small size.

I just love this place for it's utter simplicity. It hasn't changed in years. I also love it because it is food you can't get anywhere else. Where else can you get bread like that, shaped like a tongue and covered in sesame seeds? How do they get the rice to taste like that? And The lemon and mint chicken (wish I could work out the recipe) is a must have along with the aubergine. Forget the limited menu, forget the not-so-friendly staff (they respond well if you chat them up a bit - but they are efficient). Forget being claustrophobic in the toilets. Forget having to wait and there are so few tables and uncomfortable seats. Treat it as enigma. And you also have to try their mixed pickles. Once again, how they hell do they make it? But leave out the chutney - it's green goo! LOL! Cheap and not so cheerful, but worth the occasional visit for something different. Go on a week night. And the wine is okayish. visited afghan kitchen for having an afghan food ,the name is quite impresive when u search for afghan food in google,but i was so surprised when i got in it was like iam not in an afghan restaurant,it was so tiny ,and crowded so you can say it is a kitchen not a restaurant ,i have tried another afghan restaurant as well in Edgware kabul city restaurant and some other as well and iam aware of the menu of afghan food but when i opened the menu of afghan kitchen it was really limited choice even though some of the dishes was not really afghan food and too many other popular dishesh were not there very shame ,poor service,and not a reall afghan food ,went to the wrong place not recommended for people who really want to eat afghan food read more
