Have been coming here for a couple of years now. Great selection of frames, knowledgable optometrist and good, friendly atmosphere.

I like a very particular style of frame and I was struggling to find it anywhere. I also was struggling to find a place that was welcoming. I live in the city but my parents still live in the suburbs so after exhausting every option within a 4 mile radius of my apartment, I decided to venture out into the suburbs. I walked in and I was immediately helped. I told them I was looking for frames and I only wanted an appointment if I could find the frames. They said okay and they helped me try dozens of frames. The lady went through her entire inventory and pulled out everything that was in the style I like (a thin, rectangular frame with a wire rim that goes around the entire lens). While this was a frustrating experience, the lady knew her inventory and knew there was something for me. What I liked about the inventory is that they had a mix of designer and non designer frames with a point to have a range of styles. We found my frames after about 30 minutes of trying then on my face (at this point, in my 7 month hunt for new glasses I had tried approximately 100 frames). So I bought the frames and scheduled an appointment. The doctor was great (Dr. Heimlich). He was a very thorough doctor who spent more time with me than other doctors have in the past. When he found out my preferred brand of contacts was being discontinued, he listened to me and what brands I had tried before and helped me find a new brand to try out. My father noticed how wonderful they treated all their patients and he ended up shopping for lenses and setting up an appointment for himself. The rest of my family is also setting up their own appointments based on our experience. This isn't one of those big box stores where they don't take notice of you. This is the kind of place where everyone in the office works to help you out. I don't think I can ever go back to one of the chains again. The equality of care and service here is amazing.

Life forced me to make a decision when last year I found out my primary optometrist was moving and I knew I didn't want to stay with anyone else in that office anymore. I scrambled to find a new optometrist since I was out of contacts but I struggled because I'm incredibly and annoyingly picky. I want someone that seems knowledgeable and experienced but not dated. I definitely want a place that's clean. A polite bedside manner is preferable. I especially wanted someone to believe me. I have had such a weird experience with my vision with having lazy eye, diplopia, etc.; I just want someone to believe me when I say I don't see as well as I believe I can. I got very lucky with Dr. Han at Focal Point. I previously avoided Korean eye doctors due to previous bad experiences, but I saw this clinic had good reviews and gave it a shot. I feel so blessed because I have now found an optometrist I can truly trust and believes me when I say something is off about my sight. Dr. Han listened to my concerns, needs, and even helped me try different prescriptions. I haven't purchased my contacts yet because I'm trying the different prescriptions still but she even let me know about rebates and savings I would get. I'm so incredibly grateful. Five stars for any patient care facility is a BIG DEAL for me so trust me when I say I recommend Focal Point to everyone.

Between COVID and having an unreasonable stash of daily contacts, I put off my eye exam for longer than I should have. I really need new glasses, though, and had some urgency around spending HSA money that was rolled over during the pandemic. Scheduling was easy peasy - I made my appointment on the website and received a confirmation quickly, which included instructions on completing new patient paperwork online in advance. I received a text reminder of my appointment the day before. I was greeted right away, given a few additional forms to fill out, and then taken in back for initial testing. I waited in the lobby for a few minutes before my exam with Dr. Udesky. It was a brief wait and, honestly, the highlight of my day because I got to see how sweetly Dr. Udesky and his team interacted with the patient before me - a little girl who appeared to be four or five years old. She wanted her "eye pictures" to take home and they printed copies for her before sending her off with a fist bump. My exam was great and Dr. Udesky was friendly and warm. I asked a few questions about my current daily contacts, whether contacts or glasses would be better while staring at computer monitors all day, etc. He also gave me some helpful insight into my eye health relative to a medical condition and understanding long term care. I'd been on the fence about ordering glasses or going with an Internet retailer but, genuinely, Dr. Udesky offers competitive pricing (at least in this scenario where I was also committed to ordering contacts). Maria helped me choose frames and I'm excited for them to come in, particularly after years of being unhappy with my glasses from another retailer that bent and were misshapen almost immediately. She was knowledgeable, took my feedback into consideration, and selected the winning pair. I suppose I should mention that I don't have glasses or contacts in hand so this could change, but given how positive my experience was, I'm currently a happy customer and glad to support a local Northbrook doctor and his team. (For the record, I was also sent off with a fist bump and an elbow bump so that doesn't appear to be exclusively for the kids.) :)

Finding a doctor/professional service is hard whether it is a dentist, eye doctor, regular doctor,…read moreetc. It is very personal when it is in regards to your health. After moving to Arlington Heights a few years ago, it was time find a new eye doctor. Based on some reviews and the fact they took my vision insurance, I decided to try Alan Optical. I called to make an appoint and the staff is very friendly. They send you a text message the day before to remind you of your appointment. I have had both Erica and Keith and both have been excellent. I have been going there for the past three years and they are always on time. I hate when doctor's offices run behind schedule by a long time. This is not the case here. I order contacts through them and they provide rebate information and will also send you a text message to pick them up. They are also willing to ship them to you if you would rather go that route. Overall, the staff is very friendly and make everything easy to understand. As long as I live in the area and they continue to take my vision insurance, I will continue to use them for my eye doctors.

I went to Alan Optical on 11/10/25 and although I only went over my frame allowance by $25 I was charged and paid (stupidly) $807. I thought...well maybe there will be an adjustment when I get the EOB. The EOB dated 11/25/25 says I owe $375 so I call Alan Optical and they say, oh, this was billed wrong. We just dont know how much we owe you. We will work on it. They apparently rebill because on 3/9/26 I get a NEW EOB saying I owe $80. I call Alan Optical and they say the EOB is wrong and tbe insurance company (who THEY contracted with) is notoriously difficult to deal with. I explain my frustration and I'm told basically to go pound sand. She literally told me "you're acting like this is my fault." I have emailed both EOBs and made calls and I have to deal with the fact that I got ripped off. Beware.
