Horrible, horrible moving company! Please find another one - seriously. My husband and I moved from Wisconsin to Texas last week (June 18th, 2017) and they kept delaying our pick-up time which by the end of it was 2 & 1/2 days late. We were fed up by the 3rd day, and decided to cancel with them and get a U-Haul truck and load it ourselves. (We should have done this the first time they told us they would be delayed.) After finding bad reviews that were hidden beneath all the "good" ones, we just did not trust them to ever come, and we did not trust them with our belongings anymore. They have "5-star reviews" on their website and on here. But I dont trust those are real reviews from real customers. Listen to all the 1-star reviews!!! Those are the accurate ones. I would give this company zero stars if that was an option. Dont trust them with your stuff! We're trying to get our deposit back since our cancellation was their fault. So far, they are hanging up on us and acting very rude on the phone. Just awful customer service from a "family company" as Michael the salesman had told me. RUN, DO NOT WALK, AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! Paid over $3000.00 for a move from CT to FL. They were a day and a half late in arriving at my house to begin the move. I was given several excuses (delay at prior destination, flat tire, LOST!!!), and when they finally showed up, the truck that arrived was 3/4 full with another customer's belongings. Took several pictures of this, as well as of all of my items prior to being loaded into this disaster waiting to happen. I was told that my things would be stored in a facility in Palm Beach, FL, so that scheduling delivery would be quick. Another "alternate fact." When I called to schedule the delivery 2 weeks after the pickup, I was told that my stuff was put into storage in NJ (so they say...), which meant that my delivery would be delayed by a week sue to a storm. How convenient. When my things finally arrived, several items were missing. More were damaged. The two boxes that I marked as "Fragile" were completely destroyed, almost as is they went out of their way to do extra damage to them. Wooden chairs broken, furniture scratched... None of the boxes were moved past the front door to my new home, even though their contract states that the 1st set of stairs are included, leaving it up to me to do the heavy lifting. Upon placing a claim, I get an email stating that they need 30 days to process it. I waited the 30 days, and after no response, sent another email. Again, silence. Finally, after 2 calls, I get someone on the line who "transfers" me to customer service, and got hung up on. Finally got through to a person, who said that the claims department would send me an email about the status of my claim. What I received was a form email referring me to an outside claim service website to "start my claim." WTF??? What have they been doing for the last 45 days? Now starting the claim process over, still missing my stuff, no acceptance of responsibility on behalf of this company whatsoever. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra grand for a real moving company, or save the extra grand and do it yourself. Either way, you'll be better off. read more

Truly terrible experience 1. The sales rep told me it usually takes about 7-10 business days to deliver furniture, it took them 31 days to deliver my furniture. 2. Customer service was rude and never helpful, did not answer the phone on a number of occasions and when they did, typically left me on hold between 10-20 minutes. 3. My dining room table was chipped during the move, the delivery driver even noted it on the receipt, the company told me they would try to rectify the issue, and then after over 30 days I had to reach out to them multiple times for them to tell me they could not resolve it and I would need to through their 3rd part resolution company. read more

While I was ultimately unable to use this firm for my moving needs, due to the fact that what was intended as a long distance move and instead became a short distance move of only 47 miles, the company's spokesmen in customer service (Joe Harper) and dispatching (Jake), were extremely helpful and punctually returned all my calls. What was a rather personally, painful process (due to a divorce), the gathering and packing of all my belongings and furniture together for a move, was made less bewildering and less painful with the assistance of the company's friendly and cooperative staff. Should I have made the move, I was left with the feeling that the company would ensure that I had a seamless and competent moving experience. You can expect to have your pick up time changed 4 times the day of pick up, with them finally arriving 8 hours late. Your driver will not keep you updated about their progress while running late and will get pissy when you try to call him asking for an update.Your quote will be doubled when your move doesn't even take up half the truck and you supplied and packed all the boxes. The truck has holes in the roof with identification information taped to the side of the door. Your glassware will be put on a dolly and then dragged down stairs banging each step along the way. There is a 4% additional charge for using a credit card, and you can expect them to tack on whatever charges they can at the end such as $125 dollars for using an elevator. Your belongings will not be unloaded until you pay the remaining balance of your doubled quote in cash. My driver's name was Randall, dispatch was Megan, quote estimator was Joe. This was a 211 mile move that they tried to pass off as 570 miles and I would've been better off doing this myself with a U-Haul. read more

Where to begin? From often being impossible to get a hold of, movers literally leaving items on the walls behind, the most irresponsible pack jobs I have ever seen that LITERALLY had the most fragile items packed in the bottom of the boxes crammed with other heavy items on top, the broken TV, the broken sewing machine, a gross underestimate of shipping time, being strung along by dispatch for WEEKS as to when our shipment might arrive, no return calls, only about 5/80 boxes labeled AT ALL....this was the worst service I have ever received. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE! Hired Affordable Movers for a move from New York to Florida. When they showed up to load they told me I was way way over my space allotment. Then one of the movers-Hercules-pulled me aside and said that if I "made it worth his while" he would pack very carefully and make sure everything fit within my allotment. Like a fool, I gave him $200. Then the other guy-Eddy-asked me for another $200 to look the other way if there were any overages. Since I could not afford the extra $1,000 they told me I would owe if I didn't, I foolishly gave him another $200. Then he wanted to know when I wanted delivery, and told me that if I wasn't sure to just pick a day and call them 3 days ahead of time if I needed to change it. After asking me to go buy them some dinner, they told me they couldn't possibly fit anymore and left me with a lot of things still there. Shortly thereafter my daughter discovered that her $2,000 laptop was missing. Thinking it must have accidentally gotten packed, I said nothing. As instructed, three days before the date I had given them for delivery, I called to say I needed to change the delivery date and was told it was too late because they'd already loaded the truck. Now they wanted another $500 to deliver because they had to unload and reload the truck. Their representative, Megan, told me they would not be able to deliver until Feb. 25 (eleven days later). So I made arrangements to stay in New York for another week so we wouldn't be hanging around in an empty house for so many days. But then they called a few days later and said they'd be delivering in two days, February 16! I, of course, hadn't left for Florida yet because they'd told me the 25th. Now they wanted another $500 because once again they'd packed the truck and had to unload it. Well, I finally made it to Florida, borrowed money to pay the extra charges (which they had subsequently reduced to $700), and got my delivery. The one GOOD thing is that they'd forgotten to give the delivery men their updated invoice, so I was not, after all, charged the extra $700). I actually thought they'd decided to do the right thing and cancel their bogus fees. Instead, I found out from my bank that they tried to charge the $700 to my credit card-illegally-but weren't able to because they mixed up my account number. Multiple items are broken or missing, I have a few things belonging to someone else, and the laptop never showed up. Because of all the things they left behind in New York, I had to pay more than $1,000 to ship my critical items to Florida and am still paying $60 a month to store my additional items until I can get back up to New York, rent a truck, and move them down myself. I made VERY bad decisions: hiring Affordable Movers, paying their crooked employees $400 in extortion money, and believing them about the moving dates. Called to get a quote on having a couple guys come over to pack a truck. Not only did they say they wouldn't as its not a service they provide, which makes no sense. When I asked why he floundered around and suggested I check craigslist. Seriously? Go to hell, douchebag. I want someone licensed, bonded and insured. As i told him on the phone, he's not getting my business, to which he seemed rather nonplussed about, acting like I was the one who was the imposition. They don't deserve your business. read more

Horrible Experience!!! Took 6 weeks for delivery from AZ to VA, even though we were guaranteed delivery within 7 days. Then, items arrived broken or missing. It appears they took so long because they had already lost things and broken our belongings. No one in the company is willing to do anything about the problems. DON'T BELIEVE WHAT YOU HEAR FROM THESE GUYS!!! If you decide to use this company, please be sure you fully understand what you are getting yourself into. The sales person will tell you whatever they have to over the phone to get your money, but when the actual move happens, everything works out differently. I hired this company to move my cousins, who are disabled. The contract was written for a two day move window, even though the sales person told me that "we have to do it this way, but you will be able to get the move done on Saturday." The move was to be a full pack-up and move, and the price we were given reflected that. Needless to say, when the weekend of the move came, they called after 5 PM on Friday to tell us that the move would not take place on Saturday (the next day). Of course the movers could not do it until Sunday, rather than Saturday. Shame on me for believing the sales person. I made a deposit of around $700 with the balance due "by card or money order" again the sales person's words, on the day of the move. When the movers showed up on Sunday (over 2 hours late), they did not have any packing materials and told us that they would not be packing up unless we paid them another $800 in cash. On Sunday.... Where do you get $800 in cash on a Sunday? Could not get anyone at Affordable Movers on the phone - after all, it was Sunday. It finally took numerous calls to the sales person, the operations people, and finally the dispatcher for most of the afternoon on Sunday to get this straightened out. Sales person told me to call the operations people, who told me to call the dispatcher, who would not answer the phone. The movers were surly and uncooperative, and had absolutely no idea of who their customer was. When we finally got everything straight and moved, the movers told us that "it is customary to tip the movers, even when the service is bad." I kid you not.....word for word. Oh yes, and by the way, they told us they would not be able to take anything but cash or a money order. Not a credit or debit card with a small upcharge like the contract specifically says. The movers would not even discuss this with us. Off to Walmart to get a money order. We were sick of their attitudes and ready to get rid of them at this point. I would never, never, never recommend this company for a move. They are far removed from the actual work that takes place, and simply make a phone call or two to collect a fee, which in our case was over $2000. They have nor take zero ownership in the process to make sure their customers are properly advised, and have a decent experience. They take your money, and then hide and don't even care if things work out the way they promised. You would be better off contracting with a local company that you can trust to do this for you in my opinion. Run away.....fast. read more

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY, THEY CANCELLED MY MOVE AND KEPT MY DEPOSIT. I received a binding quote of $3551.72 which I made a deposit of $1,124.00 towards the balance. I requsted a invoice showing my balance, but never received it. On the day of the move the movers were over 2 hours late. They came with 2 two small trucks which did not have the company logo nor did the manager have a business card or company logo on his shirt. The mover looked like day labors not strong enough to move much. They did not wrap my furiture and the moving truck was loaded with other stuff that was poorly stacked on top of each other. The manager Sam looked at all the stuff which is listed on the load sheet, and told me the move was going to cost $2,000 more than the binding quote I received from the sales person Joe Harper. After going back and forth with Sam, and the dispatcher we agreed to pay the extra because we had to be out of the property that day. Joe Harper the sales person had not returned my call or email 3 days prior to the move or there after. Sam gave my husband some paperwork to sign which was unclear and very hard to read/understand. My husband is a retiared Marine and has a Bachelors degree. When my husband asked questions regarding the paperwork Sam became upset. Sam the manager cancelled the move and the dispatcher said he would get another driver out to move us, which never happened. I called and sent emails many time and have not received a call back regarding the refund of my deposit. I have a voice recording of the conversation between us and Sam the manager and pictures. DO NOT USE AFFORDABLE MOVERS!!! Read my experience with regard to my furniture delivery! This company is very good and attentive when working with you to get your business and deposit. The workers who picked up my items did a great job disassembling my furniture (dining table, two queen beds, etc...) The driver/mover was Tracy. They made sure all the screws and misc parts were wrapped and attached to one of the pieces. They also reopened some of my bigger boxes (wardrobe and extra large) to see if they could add other items to help eliminate creating additional boxes to be packed. Majority of my smaller items were all packed in boxes. They spent the entire day until evening packing and wrapping my furniture to load in the van. I realized the initial quote I was given was low and ended up paying much more. The added amount was fine. It amounted to the same the larger companies would have charged to do the same thing. (i.e. On pickup, load boxes, disassemble, wrap furniture, etc.; free storage for 30 days; on delivery unload boxes, reassemble furniture, place furniture in appropriate areas, etc.) The driver that delivered my items was a little rude on the phone when he called to confirm the delivery date and time. I let it pass. On the day of the delivery, it was a nightmare!!! He was extremely rude to me and the workers hired to unload the van. He constantly yelled at them to hurry unloading the boxes! I asked them to slow things down bringing the boxes in to my home in order for me to check off the numbers on my inventory list. The driver spent the entire time yelling at the workers and standing outside on his cell phone while waling around. This was told to me by one of my new neighbors. I kept apologizing to the workers for the way the driver was talking to them. The driver got me very upset near the end of the short day, that he brought me to tears and I had to walk away from him to compose myself. When he realized how upset I was he tried to change his tune. End result was he would not let them assemble any of my queen size beds. Some of my furniture was not placed where it was to go. He kept stating something about the time it was taking to unload my items. They were at my place for less than 4 hours! No boxes were unpacked. He would only allow them to unwrap some of the items that were wrapped during pickup. He told them to only unwrap the items wrapped with blankets. He also left all the tape, shrink wrap they removed from my items telling me it was mine to toss away. Some boxes clearly marked "FRAGILE" were smashed in with items broken. While I talked to the driver about the furniture that was not assembled, he complained that they did not have the time and that I would have to hire someone. He then placed a call to his boss, Tracy about the it. He had me talk to Tracy who I realized was the driver that picked up my furniture! He was very apologetic and asked me to call him back after the driver was gone and to send him a copy of the receipts for the money order payment. I told Tracy everything that happened and that I even got some of it on video!. For the last three weeks, I have called the company and spoke to customer service and someone named Megan twice. I have sent Tracy several text messages and called and talked to him three times. My attempts to get some followup on this matter goes unanswered. They continue to say they will get back to me! As of today 12/28/16 still no calls from the company. I submitted a complaint to the OH BBB and they replied that they have attempted to contact the company with no result. They still have the original website linking to their Canton, OH address. The toll free number still works. They now have a new website linking to their headquarters in Hollywood, FL with a different toll free number. Both websites have the same logo and the same US DOT and ICC MC numbers. I will not give up telling people to stay away from this moving company! When they address my issue, that is when I will stop! read more

The WORST experience I could have ever imagined. It was extremely difficult to reach anyone regarding my move after initial agreement. Actual contract was completely different than every discussion and verbal agreement. I had to meet the driver with a U-haul that I rented almost 30 miles away to get my stuff because the driver said his 18 wheeler could not be on my street, and I should have known that. He unwrapped all of my items before putting them on the U-haul. I would have been better off carrying my things on my back piece by piece from Atlanta to LA. DO NOT USE this company. read more

When I moved my Godmother, Jackie made this experience a very pleasant one. The movers made the experience stress free. they were very considerate, assisted her, treated her and her belongings with the utmost respect. Upon unloading her belongings they did the same. I then worked with them to coordinate a move for my sister. However, due to the amount of CF she had to move, the cost was out our budget and we could not move forward with them. THE WORST company EVER!!! We got scammed too!! We agreed on a move that was under $5,000 and gave a $1500 deposit. When movers arrived, they told us it would cost $10,000 to move our belongings!!! They REFUSE to return your deposit yet there's NOTHING in the contract that says they are to keep it! They attempted to change my moving date Several times despite what I said was needed. They even broke a couple items! Upon moving day they sat for 2hrs at my moving location & refused to load up the truck because they haven't received permission to load although I've already paid! PRIOR to the moving day when they wanted to change my date to when no-one will be home, I learned for the first time that they were placing my belongings on a truck with 2-3 other moves which Is A HIDDEN thing they FAIL to tell you & that they will be traveling around with your belongings. NOT ACCEPTABLE for the amount of money. Then they wanted to change the price in which I ended up paying an additional $500 or else they couldn't take all my belongings. I spoke with several different people STARTING WITH BOB who LIED about the entire process. I also spoke to ISAAC, BRANDON then finally the manager GIO! They claim they place your items in your home, set up your furniture (bed assembly, table, etc). That DID NOT HAPPEN AT ALL! The movers said they were told to just unload the entire truck just as they picked it up & because they picked up at my storage unit that's the condition they leave it at. This was TOTALLY CHANGED from what I was told & PAID FOR!! I ended up MAKING the movers at least take my dresser, queen size bed frame, headboard, mattress set all to the appropriate room, they put a few items inside, the loaded my curio cabinet & 2 piece hutch in the rooms I requested AFTER I called affordable movers back but couldn't get anyone because it was after 9:30pm. We had only 2 guys moving stuff that said this happens ALL THE TIME & they get the blame. They tried to accommodate me & the ONLY WAY I was able to get the CORRECT moving day that I CONTRACTED for & items moved to the rooms is BY THREATS TO SUE THIS COMPANY WITH OUR BUSINESS LAWYER BECAUSE NOT ONLY DO THEY WRITE THIS IN THE CONTRACT BUT ALL CALLS ARE RECORDED WITH THEIR LIES & THERE'S NOTHING SAYING YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR DEPOSIT BACK. I have RECORD OF 15 CALLS from this company with various workers trying to change my moving dates, price, grouping my belongings with others etc. I WENT THE F#@* OFF on this company because they're a SCAM, THIEVES & COMPLETELY MISLEADING! I OVERPAID FOR SERVICE! THE TRUCK WAS NOT FULL & THIS IS THE BIGGEST LYING SCAMMING COMPANY EVER!! Affordable Movers moved my daughter & family from Utah to Illinois. It was a total nightmare. Couldn't find out where their stuff was....and now that it was delivered, 21 days later, many many things are damaged or totally destroyed (dressers, night stands, bed frame, table leaf to name a few). The lack of packing and documentation of what is in each box is totally lacking. Contacting anyone in the company is almost impossible. They don't answer the phone and takes days for any return call. This company lied from the beginning, by leaving off the boxes associated with my move at the time of the quote to match a competitor I was working with, only to charge me almost DOUBLE at time of pick up. Pick up was TWO DAYS LATE with no remorse. My items were delivered at 11PM with one item LOST and SEVERAL DAMAGES. I flied a claim for those items the next day and STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK! We had a similar experience with this company as the others who have reviewed them. We unfortunately hired them to help us move from Oregon to California (yes, we realize that this was a questionable move to begin with). Angelo was our contact point. He said his company was not a consolidator, but rather a company that did its own moving. NOT. He said that our items would arrive within 48 hours after loading. NOT (in fact, it was two weeks later). He quoted us a range between $3.5k-$4k. Actual cost was $7.5k. And because they were holding our goods hostage, not much one can do but pay up. They also outsourced the move to two other shipping companies, so we never knew who we were dealing with. And finally, several items never made it to us. "Fell off the truck," so to speak. We filed a complaint with BBB, but because Affordable Movers never responded to them, there was nothing BBB could do. Thought about filing a lawsuit, but then decided the time and money to recoup our losses wouldn't be worth it. So, the best we can do is be a beacon for others. STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS. read more

I have relocated many times and it does not seem to get any easier. My primary concern is coming across one of these nightmare companies you hear about in the news. I have been duped before so this time around I spent alot of time researching several companies before I made my decision. I spoke with Affordable Movers at least 6 times before actually making my decision. My sales representative Mark was very easy to work with. He went over all the details very meticulously and was very honest about the reality of moving. After speaking with Mark a several times I felt comfortable and decided to give them a deposit for my move. On the pick up day the movers arrived about 1/2 hour late so not the best start, however, when they showed up the guys were very polite and did a fine job packing. My final bill did go up a bit, but I was okay with that because I requested packaging which was not part of the original contract, I though I was going to have enough time to get to it but did not. My goods arrived to my residence in CA about a week later. The guys off loaded the truck and set up all the furniture for me right where I wanted. There were a few damaged items, but all in all the move experience went well. I would say that Affordable Movers is definitely one of the better moving companies out there and I would use them again. Paying a bit extra to have a professional company handle the job is worth it, with all else one has to juggle while moving. Defintely get my vote thank you Affordable Team! read more
