PROBLEM: So here's the deal, last night, 6 PM, I broke my one and only car key in half while doing a really brilliant, "open my trunk with my key while it's still turned in the lock" maneuver. If you have this terrible habit, kick it now. So the front half of my key snapped clear off and was lodged all the way into the opening, and I was left with an open trunk, half a key and lots of sadness. After almost convincing myself I was just never going to be able to drive my car again, I figured there must be a solution, so I headed to Yelp for some leads, but basically found nothing! After a few calls and some good luck, I wound up with an appointment for this morning with Mike from Affordable Locksmith. SOLUTION: the short of it is, Mike is professional, timely, and provides an excellent service for a fair price. I was pleasantly surprised that making a brand new car key (the newer kind with the chip in it) only took 30 minutes, and he did it on the spot from his car. I had an 8AM appointment and he called ahead of time to let me know he was on schedule and would arrive right at 8. He showed up at 7:58AM and got started. Half an hour later I had two fresh car keys, and he pried the jammed piece out of the trunk lock in a matter of seconds. He also had the Square app on his phone, so payment was a breeze, and he emailed me a copy of my receipt. FINAL WORD: When you're in a frustrating situation, all you want is a smooth fix. The door handle to get into my condo broke internally and I couldn't get into my place. Mike was able to take it apart and let me in within a few minutes without any damage to the door or the frame.
