I recently moved to Tucson and needed to replace the suspension control arms on my Subaru Forester…read more When my daughter couldn't recommend a good auto repair shop, I searched for one with excellent online reviews and found Grant Road Auto Service Center. The owner Gerry gave me a verbal quote over the phone and provided a written estimate when I dropped off the car. The control arms were so badly rusted from the 12 years my car spent parked outside at my previous NJ address that they literally disintegrated during removal, and many of the bolts attaching the arms to the frame and to other parts of the suspension sheared off due to the corrosion. What should have been a four-hour job turned into eight hours of backbreaking work as Gerry essentially had to hack the old suspension arms off the frame. Any other repair shop would have asked me to pay for the additional 4 hours of labor. Not Gerry. He honored his original estimate and absorbed the cost of the extra four hours himself. Gerry is a rare breed -- an honest mechanic who stands behind his word and genuinely cares about his customers. I feel lucky to have found him on my first try. As long as I live in Tucson, I'll be a loyal customer. Highly recommended!

Misogyny alert. Had an outright terrible experience. Came in for oil change, wanted to try these…read moreguys out. Omar rolled his eyes at my rebuffs of him trying to sell me things on top of the oil change. Same rolling of the eyes when I asked that the tires be pumped to 32 which is closer to the factory standard of 30 for my car "We do it at 35 here". I requested he print out the estimates for all the services he wanted to sell me. "Do you need me to actually print it out?" At the end, I pointed out the chauvinist attitude and was told "You're just difficult" and "God bless you!" which sounded like "F*@k you". The fee including tax for oil change had been quoted to me to be $75. I noticed I was charged $79.88. I approached a very nice staff member Tabor who took my receipt and said he would try to help. Out comes out Omar with his bullying attitude spitting out "Do you have a problem with the invoice?" I told him I would like to deal with his colleague. "Here! Out of my own pocket!" he fishes out a five dollar bill from his sweaty pocket and shoves it into my hand. And I get another "God bless you!" that has so much hatred in it. I go back to Tabor and ask him to take the bill and to give me a five out from the register. On the way home, I get a tire pressure sign which I have not seen for many months. I measure the tire pressure: 34.3, 33.7, 36.9 and 37.4. Not only was Omar rude, he was plain misogynist and unprofessional. Tabor mentioned this was not the first time a woman has complained of being treated in a hateful, misogynist way. Their boss Jerry is out on vacation. If I don't get my money back, I'll dispute the charge. Can't believe this just happened.

This was the second place I called because the other place, as other shops, were too busy to take us in, as it was with this shop. I explained our situation to the receptionist and she said to hold on while she spoke with the mechanic (Andy). He said he would take us in! And they did, as soon as we arrived! He was thorough in his diagnostic and explained everything to me. Basically could not find the problem (he's not the only mechanic to do so, it's been an ongoing problem). He found a small leak coming from the radiator cap and said that might be the problem. So he ordered one and got it on. They charged me only for the radiator cap! What? After all the diagnostic work he did on it? I even asked, "Are you sure? After all the work he did?" And the receptionist asked him and he said he was sure. Wow, talk about service! Highly, highly recommend. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

I was referred to this place by my friends listed below!…read more The name got me to start with. "Honest," yea right! Well, being from Vail Arizona and going to northern Tucson via I-10 to find an honest mechanic emblazoned my mind in very limited possibilities. Then, to drive up to a property on old La Cholla blvd not having quite reached the much improved part of town was another suspicious pre-conclusion. Even worse, half the lot was a used car sales lot and the other was Honest Auto Repair... However, I WAS WRONG WRONG WRONG. Then, the truth started growing: Clean office with a very helpful person at the front desk. Clearly informed me what the costs will be. Quickly took my vehicle to the unseen garage. Came back and told be the approximate time to repair. Listened to the outside calls to the office. Listened more than talked. (For the most part!) Family run business. Same owner for both businesses. Researched very high public ratings. (check it out yourself) Included a very nice surprise for active and retired military. Well now it's a WIN WIN WIN. Best surprise of it all? About 50% less cost than the alternatives! Thank you Gabby, Ted, John and Lucy for refering me!
