When I travel, I usually try and find the first quilt shop. Especially since I am traveling to the Midwest from California, I want selection and ideas. I love going into quilt stores and getting my creative juices flowing. Not only was the owner extremely polite and professional, she pointed out things that I could do with the specific fabric I had chosen. One of the things I had chosen was a panel of fabric. At that point, I have never quilted with a whole panel, so I had asked her, "Well, what could I do with a panel?" She said, "Anything you want really!" Then she proceeded to show me 6 or 7 different quilt patterns that use decorative borders for panel items. After she had shown me the quilt patterns, she suggested that I cut into the fabric and that there are so many more things I can do with it, if I was more comfortable with that quilting approach. She assured me that anything I make from it would come out great. One of the larger print fabrics I'd purchased had giant dinosaurs on it and she suggested I make pillow cases. Again, let me reiterate that I truly love when someone gets my creative energy flowing and that is exactly what she did. She gave me so many ideas and I'm working through them all. She even showed me something I could do, if I didn't want to use the instructions for the quilted book fabric, that I could cut the squares out and make sure they match the following pages and sew them into a quilt. She totally got me thinking out of the box and into so many different realms. Upon leaving, I'm now counting all of the wonderful things I can do with the yardage purchased. I can't wait to get home to my sewing machine and get going on these projects. I would recommend this shop to anyone in the area and within an hour drive. I would take the classes offered and feel that this was an incredible ambiance for creative energy to flow. It is also particularly great that there is so much space and room in the quilt shop. You see that each of the walls and nooks is adorned with beautiful quilts and you start going through each one, wondering how long it would take you to do. read more
