I rescind everything I said about Amazing Threads! I returned to give them another chance because I heard the ownership had changed, welp, I am so impressed. The new owners are wonderful and the offerings are vast. They have are truly great. I love that they were so accepting of crocheters. I've been in this store about 10 times over the years, and each time the same woman - who I believe is the owner - is unwelcoming and rude. The hostile atmosphere is so uncomfortable that I usually leave quickly without buying anything. They do have a beautiful selection of yarn (at exorbitant prices). I keep hoping the service will improve but it does not, so I have decided I will not go back. In response to the owner, there was no offer of an exchange at all, only store credit which I accepted. I explained that the belt slipped on the winder and she said I could have replaced the belt, however I explained that for the $100+ cost of the winder I expected better quality. I stated my concerns clearly and calmly, and also apologized several times (at least three), but I felt I was spoken to like I was a child, especially when she said she "didn't know what I had done to it." Is that what you say to a 50-year-old woman or anyone for that matter? Again I said it had been used once, when it didn't function properly thereby the reason for the return. I would not have thought to exchange it if I had "done something to it." Swifts or winders are not specified at all on the return policy but they definitely should be because of the high cost (I believe it says notions and kits, and why not tell the customer before they purchase since you are not flexible even if something doesn't work properly?) I at no time raised my voice and any customer in the store would echo my statement, and I was even urged to post this review which I wouldn't have done otherwise. I love, love, love the selection in this store. I am also so inspired by the sample knits they have on display. The yarn offerings are organized and labeled meticulously making finding what I'm looking for easy and enjoyable. The 2 missing stars are for the service. Entering this wonderland of yarn and knitting is ruined by the unwelcoming and un-helpful employees. I have been ignored and made to feel silly for asking a question about yarn or knitting. I would expect the knitting community to treat one of their own better than this. Bottom line: I'll continue to shop here because the selection is the best in the area. Three times now in a row that I have been here at 10:00 am, when they are suppose to open and the doors were locked. One time it was a snowy day, so I gave them a pass, but this last time it could not have been more sunny and beautiful outside. Three of us waited in the parking lot together. Four customers left. I only waited because I rarely get a good time to go yarn shopping and I drove the distance just to go to Amazing Threads. Between that and the unwelcome vibe I receive when I enter the store, I will not be returning. My time is more valuable than this. Great inventory but the staff can be snobby and rude. I've been there countless times so it's not a fluke but owner and some staff can give the feeling they really don't have time for you. It is difficult to walk out without a bag...or two, or three, or four...(just ask my hubby!!)...if fabulous new yarns!!! The shop has a good selection but it isn't worth it for how rude the staff is. The last time I was in Amazing Threads the owner followed me around as though I was going to steal something. As someone who has managed many retail places and been in charge of loss prevention, her tactics were very disrespectful. If she were that concerned about theft, she could lower shelves and displays to see around the store. Additionally, it wasn't until I wandered the store for 10 minutes trying to find a specific yarn, that she even addressed me. She saw me enter, as she was at the front counter. And didn't bother to greet me. I was the only person in the store at the time. The other employees have always been very personable and helpful. It is a shame that the owner was not. As other reviews have stated, the selection is pretty great, and it has a potential to be a gem of a store if the service were better. I've made the decision not to go to their store anymore as I don't want to support a store owned by someone who doesn't respect her patrons. I am one who is committed to buying local if at all possible. As much as I dislike it, the yarns that she carries exclusively in this area will need to be bought online. read more

Amazing Threads is truly amazing, I learned how spoiled I was during the Yarn Hop, a trek to other yarn shops. The selection of yarn is amazing and beautiful. I could stand there all day and just look and feel the yarn. The staff is always very helpful and more than willing to wind yarn bought there. I also love the selection of classes too There is a variety of classes for both knitting and crochet. I also take weaving classes there. They are known to periodically have world class craft educators come to the store and do weekend mini-retreats. read more

I have been to this store at least 20+ times over the past 5 years and every single time I have left feeling unappreciated, unwanted, and not a valued customer. The manager/owner? Bobbi is seriously the worst customer service person I have ever met. I have worked retail my entire life and if she worked for me, I would have let her go a long time ago. It blows my mind that she treats customers so poorly considering she actually owns the store. It is remarkable to me that she is able to stay in business. Why have I been there so many times if the service is so poor? The store is very close to my mom's house so it is convenient. Then they started to do Groupons/Deal Chickens. Who doesn't want a good deal?! The first time I redeemed a Groupon, the tone immediately changed once I brought out my piece of paper. Bobbi seemed immediately annoyed and was short with me. I have bought quite a few of the deals over the past 2 years or so and every single time once it is evident I am redeeming one, I am made to feel bad about it. Why does the owner keep participating in Deal Chickens/Groupons if they are so annoying to her? I don't get it. If it bothers her so bad I think she should not do them anymore. The first Groupons did not specify that there are restrictions to what yarn they will and will not honor the Groupons for. I was seriously disappointed because the excluded yarns are exactly what I wanted. I understood the restrictions on the following deals so I knew what I was buying. I also understand that the store may be loosing money on the group deals. Someone like me goes in and I will ONLY spend the $30 that the group deal is for. I am not about to spend a whole bunch of money at a shop that treats me so poorly time after time after time. After leaving today on my most recent visit, I attempted some polite chatter with her. I told her I hoped she got to go outside and enjoy the beautiful day. She stared at me, then looked down not acknowledging my statement. I also overheard her today on the phone with a customer looking for a yarn. She said "do you have internet access, go to such and such site and just buy it online". After she hung up, Bobbi and another employee laughed about the caller. I have made it my personal mission to buy as many of their group buys as possible, just to make her day. read more

I love Amazing Threads. The yarn selection is awesome and always changing. I am very impressed with the selection and quality. I love the assistance that I received when looking for new interchangeable needles. I received a few options and am enjoying the needles that I am trying. Every time I am in the shop, I receive wonderful assistance. Whether looking for a pattern or yarn or needles. This store has a wonderful selection of yarns. My rating is based on the staff. It seems that they are only friendly to long-time customers. I am fairly new to knitting and have taken a couple of classes here. I left very stressed out because both teachers gave me the impression that they were impatient with anyone who didn't understand how to do something. I was rushed and sent out the door, less than satisfied with what I was supposed to have learned. I once stopped in for advice on a mistake I had made. I was just told to rip it out and start over. The only thing that this store has going for it, is the yarns. I will search for a new store with friendlier people. read more

BUYER BEWARE If you purchased a Groupon for Un-Amazing Threads a word of caution! The owner has decided that the Groupon cannot be used for any hand-painted yarn even though there is NO LANGUAGE about this restriction on some of the earlier Groupons. A friend of mine tried to use a $15 Groupon last night for an $80 purchase. She was told she couldn't use it on hand painted yarn even though NOTHING was on the Groupon indicating this restriction. Then I tried to exchange $70 worth of yarn for some different yarn that was more expensive. I had bought it with a $15 Groupon. I was told I couldn't exchange any yarn bought with a Groupon. So both of us walked out of Un-Amazing Threads not making any purchases and with the intention of never returning to this store again. Way to go Un-Amazing Threads!! A response to the owner of Amazing Threads Let's be perfectly honest about the facts here... 1. A "Groupon" is an extension of cash. We pay $15 and we get $30 of merchandise. That merchandise is used to purchase goods at a store. It does not put any of the merchandise "on sale" nor does it discount the merchandise. I happen to know that there is another yarn store in Minneapolis that does exactly that...they take $30 off the total at the end. Un-Amazing Threads could have done the same. 2. As an ethical business, you should have honored that Groupon. If the wording did not have the yarns you wanted to exclude listed, that was not the problem of the consumer. That was YOUR problem. ALL THOSE GROUPONS WERE PURCHASED UNDER FALSE PRETENSES. I think the real truth is that you have buyer's remorse and regret participating in Groupon. 3. I did not want a refund on my yarn, I wanted to EXCHANGE it. I purchase $100.47 of yarn that day. I think it's interesting that the $30 Groupon was taken off the 7 skeins I purchase @13.50 each (and wanted to EXCHANGE) and not the one skein of yarn I bought for $36.00 (and decided to keep). HMMM? Furthermore, I planned to exchange it for MORE EXPENSIVE YARN. You would have gained another sale. read more

I bought Vicki Square's Knitter's Companion there for a gift and then found out that my niece already owned it. I wanted to exchange it, but they wouldn't do it because they don't allow exchanges or returns on books. I would understand it if it were a pattern book, but a basic little reference book that was purchased as a gift? And now I see they have a Groupon coupon for $30 of stuff for $15. I took my mother-in-law to Amazing Threads to pick up some specialty items for a project she was working on. We walked in and the person behind the counter didn't say a word, no greeting or anything and made us stand there for 5 minutes in silence while she stood there watching the yard machine. Then when it was our turn, she looked sourly at us and was quite rude to both me and my mother-in-law as she asked a few questions about the items she needed. I am an avid shopper and have NEVER been treated so poorly before. We are customers and expect a civil greeting, to not be ignored and then to at least receive decent treatment. We just moved here to Maple Grove and I will never set foot in the store again. Yarn selection is nice/pricey but the service was awful. Truly awful. If you don't mind being treated rudely and you know exactly what you need, go for it- otherwise, shop elsewhere. read more
