I had a poster that was dedicated to my parents from the artist and then a fun playful print. Two…read morevery different works. Joe and I spent quite a bit of time matching, mixing, changing to get just the right combination to make each work. When Joe got to working on the playful one, he did find some glue on the edge of the print. He called the artist, made plans to meet with her at her studio to get a new one. Joe showed up, but that connection did not work, and luckily the artist was able to come to Joe's shop and give him the new print. Wow!!! Joe showed me the original piece with the glue-would I have ever noticed?? Probably not, but Joe knew it was there and would not let it leave his studio! I dropped off a vintage chalk painting 3 weeks ago to have it re-framed, telling the gentleman I…read morewanted the most professional job done on it. He said it would be about 10 days, and I said "no rush - just take your time and do a good job." So yesterday it occurred to me that hmm, I wonder how my frame is doing? So I called and left a message. And today, with no call back, I called again, and they said it's done - and that they normally call when something is ready. Fine, so I head over. When I pick it up they say not to move it around, because the chalk is delicate, and it wasn't sprayed. And I look and see chalk dust all on the inside of the frame. So I ask, "Should it have been sprayed?" And she said, "Well, a lot of artists don't like them sprayed because it changes the color." And I said "Well I suppose it's too late to spray it because now it's framed." And she said, "Well, he (the framer) probably didn't know." And I said it would have been nice to be consulted on this option before or during the framing process. And she was completely indifferent about it. I frankly told her what a bad experience this was, and she said "All I can do is apologize for that." I would expect to be guided through a process of framing fine art, or chalk, or whatever it is. And hearing all the options necessary to protect and display a piece of art, that I can enjoy for years to come. Now when I look at it, I'll likely shake my head in disgust.

I'm a crafter/hoarder and I was in the neighborhood, so I stopped in. I'm going to need to go back…read morebetter prepared next time... That is to say, I should've brought my own small containers and cash. There were a few things I might've taken home with me if I'd had a good way to hold them and pay for them. (It's a $1 fee for credit/debit under $10 purchase, which... getting above $10 here is actually something that would take genuine effort, lol.) While I was there on a Thursday afternoon, it was quite bustling with people scrounging about. I overheard a lot of chatter from those who are regulars who come in once a week to see what's new to choose from. My guess is there's likely a lot of turnover in what's available, since it all comes from donations. I could probably stand to bring them some stuff I have that's been lying around and not being used. This is not a large shop, but it's packed with all sorts of stuff. Honestly, you kind of just have to go there to experience it. But I tried to take some photos of the kind of stuff you MIGHT see there to give you an idea. For example, I certainly wasn't expecting to see a 55 gallon drum of tennis balls or bottle caps. But there they were! You'll need to parallel park on the street as there is not a lot that I saw, but the good news is that parking seemed to be ample as it's a mostly residential area. They do have a bathroom for customers if you need.
