We hired Ogee to re-face our kitchen cabinetry on our new build home. We bought the home with new…read moreIKEA cabinetry and wanted to upgrade to a natural and heavier duty material. We significantly upgraded (see photos) working with Ogee. Since the cabinetry was brand new, we came up with a design plan to re-use the boxes and re-face all of the surfaces (drawers, doors, side and back panels). Jasper showed up to measure each detail of the boxes so that everything would fit exactly. He did a phenomenal job of planning out how the White Oak grain would run seamlessly on all of the drawers running across in synchronicity. This was an attention to detail I would not have thought of but that made an enormous difference in how high-end it would give the final look. He also included us in all of the details, like how we wanted the hidden "handles" to be worked into the surface of the Oak doors, or a finishing detail like where to place the handles on all of the drawers. He didn't just make that guess for us and he participated in the decision making with some excellent suggestions and guidance. This ensured that we were going to adore the finished outcome, which we do. Truly making it our dream kitchen. Jasper really listened and worked closely with us, he showed that he really cared about the project and wanted it to have a lasting impact for our days to come in this home. We loved Ogee's work so much, we also had Jasper come in and do custom White Oak built in shelves in a bedroom and laundry closet, and he re-worked an existing standing shelf for the office. We really couldn't have had a better experience! We moved into our house mid-July. Jasper came in by end of July and had our entire kitchen and the shelving done within 4 days. He worked tirelessly and with a funny and upbeat attitude. A true pleasure to be around. He was careful and attentive to the project throughout. Working with Ogee was above our expectations and we highly recommend. Working with any kind of home contractor can be scary, but not with Ogee!

We didn't get past the preliminary phase. Even scheduling the Zoom was a bit rocky -- Andrew…read moreproposed times to meet and then didn't respond in time to confirm, which set the tone. During the call itself, a surprising amount of time was spent venting about a previous client who had changed their mind about their layour. I was also mansplained the IKEA manufacturing process (I was very clear I'm looking for custom cabinetry) which felt unnecessary and off-topic. The rough sketches I provided worked for other cabinetmakers to generate bids, but Andrew repeatedly insisted that Ogee would require additional professional drawings before providing any estimate. That's fine if it's their policy -- but the way it was communicated felt dismissive. A large chunk of the call was spent watching him try to locate photos of a past project while he was screen sharing. After several minutes of this, I asked if we could just refocus on the conversation. Overall, the interaction felt scattered and oddly adversarial for what should have been a straightforward information-gathering session.

The bookshelves…read morethat he designed, built, and installed really add much-needed warmth and life to our living room! BACKGROUND: We wanted bookshelves installed above a built-in cabinet unit in our living room. I sent Jitendra a sketch and described what we wanted. From my chicken-scratch sketch, he created a design and mock-up, then measured our space. While measuring, he flagged all existing flaws in the space (uneven/slanted walls) so that we were aware of all inconsistencies upfront. He has amazing attention to detail! RESULTS: We were simply blown away by how well he was able to match the custom shelves to our existing unit; all of the wood looks like it was manufactured at the same time! It truly looks like it was all constructed as one piece from the very beginning, which is exactly what we wanted. In addition, we really appreciate that he took initiative to incorporate crown molding/extra detail on the top of the shelving unit. This is something that I would never have thought to do. WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE HIM: There's good reason why the word "artisan" is in the name of this business. He goes above and beyond on quality, service, and workmanship, AND he's very personable, patient, and kind. I HIGHLY recommend working with Jitendra and his crew; worth every penny!

Again, gorgeous. Finally, I needed a stand for a Javanese mask my brother sent me from Thailand. We were doing a full remodel and I really wanted the look of a sleek floating vanity cabinet - after looking everywhere, I knew I had to have one custom made. Of course I was worried about the price. Well, I got lucky. After almost going with home depot, I found Jesus and the price was actually comparable. All I had for a plan was a drawing of a floating rectangle with some drawers, and some pictures I had from the internet. I met Jesus at his shop - which, well, isn't in the best neighborhood - but whatever - it's a wood-shop. (made me feel all edgy driving into Richmond :) The point is that Jesus was very welcoming and easy to work with. Gave me full control of whatever wood choice I wanted. Initially I was thinking of some other type of wood, I forget the name, but then I saw a slab of walnut laying against one of the walls and fell in love with it. I asked if I could change my mind and go with the walnut, and he was just like, "sure, whatever you want." I then also asked if he could build some floating shelves and a tub curtain out of the same wood, and again, his response was just as easy going and positive. He actually ended making the tub curtain out of the exact piece of walnut that I initially fell in love with - which has an awesome pattern. Anyway, he's a great guy. does great work. product looks great and is very solid. He even came to my house after the vanity was installed to drill the holes and put in the handles himself. I wish there were more people like Jesus in the world :) Now check out the photos.
