Depending on who is there the staff come off as either confused or aloof and vaguely irritated that you're even there when you walk in. Instead of being welcoming or helpful, it feels like you're inconveniencing them by wanting to shop. What's especially uncomfortable is how closely they watch you while you're in the store, like you're about to pocket a candle. I know the store is small but either shop with me or go do something else till I have a question. I've even spoken with the manager, and unfortunately the tone starts at the top. Which is a shame, because the whole point of going to a Diptyque boutique is the experience and service. If that's missing, there's really no reason not to just buy elsewhere (department stores, online, or frankly the gray market). I get that this is Beverly Hills and a tourist-heavy area which isn't the easiest to work but so are many other Diptyque stores, and this is the only one where the service feels this cold and suspicious. Diptyque seems to have lost perspective that people come to the boutique for the service they won't get elsewhere.

The scents at Henry Jacques are unique in every sense of the word, and definitely not for everyone. But oh my, is it fun to dream. I had the opportunity to visit the HJ boutique in March with a friend, where Dylan and another man whose name I unfortunately can't recall. It had been a long day out and about in Beverly Hills, but the boutique visit was relaxing and fun with zero pressure to buy. I sniffed dozens of Henry Jacques' scents, including their incredible crystal spinning tops that are otherworldly in their profiles. Scents I particularly enjoyed - Cascador, La Nuit, No. 11 De Sacha, among others - still linger in my mind, along with two words: "one day." The products at Henry Jacques are certainly an investment. It takes a confident person to wear their stuff - and that's certainly something I aspire to.

While HJ only offers 30 something scents to the public, there are many more exclusives. It's quite the rabbit hole. These are absolutely no expense spared creations not for the initiated. If you have never smelled pure damask rose, you probably won't realize the extraordinary cost that goes into these bottles. Pure rose oil crystalizes, and as such, many of the HJ oils crystalize because they're putting 100's of dollars of pure rose in them. HJ uses real oud in their oud perfumes. These aren't your designer perfumes or 'niche' houses where 3-5 dollars of ingredients go into your 300 dollar bottle. Very few brands can field this quality level of raw materials. The service is spectacular and not at all pretentious. It's very relaxing and therapeutic to spend time in the boutique. The prices are high, yes. But as someone who has smelled 1000s upon 1000s of fragrances, you won't find this level of quality elsewhere. These are 3 dimensional scents.

Well how's a Korean perfumery with a cafe attached to it (and an ice cream pop up the day we showed up lol). We didn't try any of the drinks, but spent a solid hour trying scents, talking to the staff, and eventually buying something hahaha. We opted to get ice cream from the pop up they had outside and sat on the outdoor patio. I wish they had a bigger awning to accommodate the seating they had outside, but it was only partially covered. The price of the perfumes felt reasonable as an independent fragrance brand and the cafe pricing wasn't too bad either (I think their mocktails were slightly cheaper than a bar and the coffee was about the same). Ambiance was great and it was a nice way to kill some time while in ktown.

I had to email them about booking for a birthday. They got back to me very fast, though. So bonus points for that. They only take walk ins and said it gets very crowded on the weekends. So come early They have this online giving out a parking tip -Parking Tip. I parked in the H mart parking conveniently located across the street. The parking entrance is on Mariposa. And you can get it validated at H mart if you make a purchase. We had to type in our license plate number Or if you get lucky there is street parking right outside. You have to take the elevator up to the 3rd floor for Elorea This was an incredible experience. It was a sip and smell Ashley, was showing us around the perfume. They have 16 different ones and they are nicely displayed. The whole place was clean and they had someone wiping down the perfume display constantly (The perfume is unisex) Everyone here was extremely friendly. I loved the look of the place. It was upscale yet minimal. The only downside is, I wish they did serve cocktails. It is regular drinks / coffee only. Our group ordered a bunch!!! (My favorite was GIT. It had lychee and aloe in it) and it matched their GIT perfume scent (without it tasting like perfume) -Git -gentle showers -hazy blue -silk bouquet -cloud daze -earth -heaven -Jang -Bae frais At the end, I caved in and bought 3 of their perfume. There was a deal going on and I got one hand cream and two travel size ones for free. Ashley and Cortland helped me out with these. I came one day early, when I purchased the 3 bottles of perfume, Ashley informed me the next day they were having a bottle engraver come in (free when you buy a bottle) she said they could of kept my purchases and then shipped them to me in the mail. But, I was greedy and wanted to take them home vs waiting. I do regret this lol. I can't stress enough how much I loved this concept and how I have never been to anything like this before. This was such a cool get together with friends. (So glad I had a bunch of my favorite people with me) 5 stars for service 5 stars for ambience (it was giving New York vibes) 5 stars for the perfume 5 stars for the whole smell and taste concept Only downside? The parking can be tricky. You can also sign up for emails and order their perfume online. (It's way better getting it in person though)

A growing craze (and I am definitely on board for it) is the rise of niche perfumes. Niche can mean…read morefrom a single compounder working in her garage to a large and venerated house with a long European pedigree. I would put PdM in the latter category. Niche fragrances are distinguished nowadays from designers (YSL, Dior, Chanel, etc.) and they tend to emphasize natural oils and a range of categories from gourmand or food-like to smoky and leathery. Not just for women any longer, everyone can wear just about anything as it will mingle with individual chemistry and create something signature and personal to each wearer. I have been getting up to speed on some really excellent scents for about the past year. One of my discoveries (through Sebastian Jara, The Perfume Guy) was Oajan from Parfums de Marly. Oajan is a velvety Oriental with a complex compound of flavors including Cinnamon, Honey and Osmanthus; Benzoin, Ambergris, Labdanum and Artemisia; and Vanila, Tonka Bean, Patchouli and Musk. Its delicious, sophisticated and exotic. Imagine my happiness when I noted that Parfums is right across from one of my favorite restaurants (see my Bacari, BH review from last month). Since PdM perfumes are pricey, getting a chance to smell them (or 'get my nose on them' as the fragrance cognoscenti say) before plunking down some Georges is a definite must. Parfums de Marly, BH is open on Sundays (bonus!). It is a sleek, cool, modern boutique where you might expect to see models emerge in Carolina or Oscar, but no, just it's exquisitely crafted perfumes in classic OG bottles are featured. See my photos (taken discreetly and perhaps not rising to great photographic standards as a result). Myra was our customer assistant and she was as smooth as glass. I showed her my short list to sample on blotters and she immediately handed me elegant square ragcloth cards on which to smell each one. Then she offered me a sample of each save, unfortunately, the one I truly liked best, Herod. Still, I now have Safanad, Godolphin, Delina, and Althair to try out over the next week or two, since we will be back in BH later this month. Presumably, then I can try Herod or purchase one of the others. Myra explained the scent profile of each one so I could better understand what category it falls into, liking gourmands, spices, smoky, and orientals best, personally. If you have a chance to stop in this particular (or any) PdM store, it is a delightful way to round out a day dining, people watching, and shopping. Ask for Myra on Sundays, to get the royal treatment yourselves.
