AER's bags are amazing. Beautiful, well-constructed and thoughtfully designed. But I'm writing this review because I returned my City Pack Pro 2. It was sooo close to perfect but one minor design choice turned out to be a dealbreaker for me (I'm pretty uptight about bags). Finally got my hands on the Day Sling 3 (Ultra) by AER. I took a short trip to the San Francisco store yesterday on a late Saturday afternoon and was satisfied with my visit. The store was very busy with the brands admirers until closing. Vincent was one of the gentleman that assisted me during my visit. He showed me several pieces while I was there and answered all of my questions. I can't think of the other gentleman's name but he too was helpful, polite, and helpful. I also have and older Day Sling 3 Max in X-Pac which is well-loved and in good condition. I'm definitely eyeing that City Pack Pro 2 in the Ultra fabric. I'm coming back for that very soon. Products are good but the issue is they don't accept cash and Their retail manager is rude if you are from different skin color thats what I alteast faced as soon as I entered the store and how I got treated and other who were around me, his tone gets change if you talk with politely. "You can file a complaint with me and I will just have to pay few fine, but if you want this product only card thats it" this are his word. I have already filed a complaint for this store to SF Government. I absolutely love Aer Products I have 3 now but if you open a physical store, Customer Service and Polite behaviour should be the first priority especially if you are retail brand manager. read more

Went in reading about the poor customer service and inattentive staff. There were 3 customers in the shop and two salespeople and they were making sure everyone was being taken care of from providing recommendations to explaining features of their bags. I'm a big proponent of one bag travel and have had my current bag for about 4 years now. However, I've been looking for a smaller bag that can fit under the seat for international flights and my current one doesn't fit the bill. I was debating between the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small and a backpack from another brand also based on SF. Fortunately I was in San Francisco for a bit and wanted to check out the bags in person to get a feel for them. Unfortunately the other store was temporarily closed so I only stopped by the Aer shop. The store is in the Mission District and has all the bags laid out along the exterior of the store in a cool aesthetic. I played around with some of the bags and packing cubes to see how they fit together. I knew I was eyeing the Travel Pack 3 Small so I spent most of my time with that and ended up leaving with it and a couple packing cubes. I had some good conversations with the employee Jared about one bag travel and he told me that he helped open the Timbuk2 store in Seattle. He mentioned that the return policy is "a soft 14 days" meaning they're flexible if the items don't look used and the tags are still on. I ended up returning the packing cubes (I already have some that are sufficient) but I kept the bag and I'm excited to use it for my future trips! read more

I've been here a couple times. It's a very small store with one unit each of the brand's bags on display. All stock and other variants are in the back; if you want to see something, just ask and they'll pull it out for you. John (I believe this is his name?) is very helpful and you can tell he's passionate about his work. He instantly knew what bag I was rocking! Also very transparent about their products and happily rattled off bags from other manufacturers that might suit my needs better. I've purchased a Day Sling 3 X-PAC and Go Pack 2. Both are very well made like all the other Aer products. Design fundamentals are also great for the most part. There are some quirks: e.g. Fidlock buckle is somewhat finicky on the Day Sling 3 and the Go Pack 2 has a slumping issue. But solid, solid products overall. read more

Arrived at Aer with hopes of buying a new everyday backpack. Hadn't read much about their products before and thought it'd be nice to try on fits and learn more about the bag while I was in the area. Stopped in on a weekday to an empty store with 2 salesmen. I explained what I was looking for in a bag (commuting, laptop, heavy use, etc) and was recommended 1 of their bags on display. I saw a few other bags I was interested in and asked about their features and he replied "You asked for a bag recommendation and I gave you one. Now you want me to list all the features of all the bags?" Mind you, there are no labels or details of any of these bags on display (Price, Carrying Capacity, Weight, Pocket Details, etc.). So the item with the most information about what people are seeing is the sales people who aren't interested in helping you. I ended up going to Hayes St near Civic Center which had a better selection of stores, product, and customer service. read more

Bad customer service. Looking at the other reviews on Yelp that mentioned that the store isn't always open on weekend, we called ahead while driving from peninsula. We didn't want to go all the way to the city and find this place was closed. John was friendly on phone, once arrived he mentioned that phone calls take time away from the store. Seriously? Even after 2 bad yelp reviews, he is expecting people to not verify? We entered the shop with an intention of buying atleast 2 bags for us and potential a 3rd for gifting a friend and walked out with none. If you're looking for a high quality bag, from slings, daily backpacks, to full on travel bags, you've got to swing by Aer in SF. I picked up a travel bag at their uber-minimalist shop in Potrero Hill. John walked me through all the features of the bag, and took time to explain benefits of the different materials used. (I now know what X-Pac is!) I purchased the bag, but realized I should have got the smaller size. Went back the next day and exchanged the bag with no fuss. I ordered the city pack backpack and when I say that the shipping was fast, it was FAST. I placed my order online and literally 5 minutes later received an email notifying me that it had been shipped!! The bag, aside from being an aesthetically beautiful piece of gear, is built like a tank with the best material I've found at this price point. The store, like the bags, is very minimalist. All the different kinds of bags are displayed in a row on a shelf and accessories are laid out on a round table in the middle of the room. Nothing wrong with that, except none of the items are labelled or have prices marked on them. So, if you want to know even basic information, like the name or model of the bag or the price, you have to ask the one attendant, who is very nice and helpful but it's annoying to have to ask him every time you need to know how much any bag costs. And if you want to price compare, you'll have to memorize the prices since, again, no price tags. I did a lot of research online viewing YouTube reviews so I knew what I wanted and just needed to see and handle the model I wanted physically before buying. I suggest you do this, otherwise you'll find the store experience a bit frustrating and time wasting. I love the bag I bought and would recommend it. But it's certainly not cheap - I dropped nearly $200 for a 20 liter bag. So, if you go through bags rapidly or are on a budget, probably not the best choice. But if (like me) you want a well designed and durable bag that you can use for many years, these are definitely the way to go.
