The decision had to be made on a very short notice and I must say, Langland House provided them an excellent care. The staff is amazing and not only made the residents comfortable but made them feel at home. Not only the staff constantly had their eye on the residents but were watchful for their safety and comfort. Based on what I observed with all the residents everyone enjoyed the food and the type of care each one needed. Both received their medications on time, the medications were ordered every month on a very easy to track system so the family did not have to worry and run-around in panic at the last minute. Staff took each resident for a walk either outside or made them walk inside as part of a daily routine. Langland House is nicely designed with lots of windows facing east, west and south. The light into the common areas and the bedrooms and high ceilings brought a very peaceful setting / feeling not only for the residents but anyone of the family visiting the facility. I would highly recommend considering this Langland House facility on Densmore Ave N in Seattle for any family member if their family member is in need for such a facility.

Throughout the years, we have appreciated attentive care and good communication with staff for both parents. There have been multiple times where medical emergencies have come up requiring transfer to the hospital for higher level care, and every time the staff responded beautifully to get them the care they need and contacted us immediately to let us know what was going on. I am able to connect with director of the nursing services and even the executive director whenever I have questions or concerns, and we are always able to work collaboratively to achieve a mutually acceptable solution to the situation. The staff is sensitive to maintaining residents' dignity and autonomy wherever possible, however they also have firm boundaries in place when safety issues arise and require adjustment of the approach to things like medication management, mobility/ambulation, or maintenance of personal spaces.

She lives on one of the two memory care floors, and we have been very happy with the care she receives. Mom's apartment is cozy and bright, with tall ceilings, a ceiling fan, a large window, and her own bathroom. The communal space is flooded with natural light and includes a TV room, dining room, and a darling rooftop patio filled with flowers during the spring and summer months. There's even a piano tucked into the corner, and I've been lucky enough to witness residents sit down and play! We experienced a change in ownership last year, which resulted in quite a bit of management and staff turnover. It was a challenging time for everyone, but one thing that remained consistent was the focus on caring for and supporting my mom and the other residents. The current team is, hands down, the best we've experienced. An enormous thank you to all of them. There is a level of "independence" in the memory care program here that may or may not work for your loved one. It's a large community, and even within the smaller memory care sections, the staff-to-resident ratio is on the lower side. For our family, though, this works well. Mom is mobile and constantly on the move, and having the freedom to explore without being overly coddled suits her personality. The staff also take a gentle approach to caregiving. If a resident refuses care, they're good about giving them some space and trying again later. I've found this helps prevent agitation, and the residents generally seem happy and comfortable in the shared spaces. Memory care residents have daily activities with the activities coordinators and are often invited to the assisted living side for larger, community-wide activities. Extra staff are on hand for these events, and residents can return to their own space whenever they're ready, which is especially helpful for those who can become easily overwhelmed. They also put on an extra-special Thanksgiving celebration every year! We are so thankful for the level of care Mom receives, the friendly and inviting staff, and the beautiful historic building she gets to call home. And bonus points for the neighborhood! Finding long-term care for a loved one is an incredibly emotional and overwhelming process. My advice: explore your options, ask lots of questions, but also take a moment to observe how the staff interact with each other and whether the residents seem happy and comfortable. You'll know when you find the right place--and we sure did at Vineyard Park Queen Anne.

Management offered no help or accountability, even suggesting she might have misplaced or traded items, which was not true. Over the next several months, more of her belongings went missing. 2 coats, sweaters and inexpensive earrings. During a later meeting with other residents' families, one man shared that his wife was terrified because staff were going through her things while she slept. This confirmed our fears. We paid roughly $20,000 to get her in this facility. We hoped it would be safe, compassionate care, but instead endured a deeply traumatic experience. I would never recommend this facility to anyone seeking trustworthy memory care for their loved one.

The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, and there is always something engaging happening for residents. I've been especially impressed with the Health and Wellness Director, Heather. She has a strong pulse on the building and a deep understanding of each resident's individual needs. I've seen firsthand the care and intention Heather and her team put into ensuring that care is personalized, thoughtful, and well-coordinated. She does an exceptional job guiding her care team and working closely with outside partners to make sure residents who need specialized support receive it. Just as importantly, she communicates clearly and compassionately with families. Empress is a special community, and it truly shows in the quality of care and attention given every day.

At Northgate Senior Care, the staff lives onsite, and they are wonderful. In the 8 months she's been there, we've seen her kind of come out of her shell. She eats with others in the home, attends activities like music therapy sing-alongs, and is very happy with the caregivers. They take such amazing care of all the residents. The facility is very welcoming, always super clean, and it always smells like home-cooking! The caregivers are attentive, ready, and willing to do whatever is needed, and they do it with a happy attitude and smiles on their faces. We appreciate them so much for taking such great care of our mom. We feel very fortunate to have found this beautiful home for our mom to live out her life. (The first irritating thing being the monthly rent was raised by a couple hundred dollars a few months after he moved in and that upcoming rate change was not revealed to him when he signed the papers.) They have a vulnerable population that in many cases is getting substandard amenities. I'm not talking about actual physical care. I don't have experience with that side of it. Everything is clean, frequent varied activities for residents, etc. Here are some things I don't like: 1. The internet in my dad's room is terrible. It's slow as molasses. There have been occasions where the internet is flat out not working and it doesn't seem to be a priority to get it working again (although my dad noted on one of those occasions that the internet in the office area still worked.) My dad is too old to realize this is not acceptable. Even if all he was planning on doing was playing online solitaire. I would urge anyone moving in who likes the internet to fully investigate this in the room they are planning to move into. 2. My dad expresses concerns about the high rate of turnover in the kitchen/dining room staff. He reports that this causes inconsistency in quality of food. 3. Also, new faces all the time means the residents can't build relationships with staff, which is a missed opportunity to make the place more special. 4.The high turnover raises the question about how good the work environment is. I assume it pays not much more than minimum wage. I overheard a slightly racist interaction between a resident and one of the staff recently which makes me wonder if sensitivity training needs to be offered to the residents, OR the staff's rights to be treated well by both management and residents is not being stood up for. Maybe this is just me resorting to stereotyping about the older generation that they might demonstrate racist values when interacting with people of color serving them. This is pure speculation--all I know is the turnover is high and whatever the root cause is should be addressed. Pluses are great location and the lobby is spacious and comfortable.

Their (the staff) hearts seem to be in the right place [they sort of care], but they do not get enough training. The cooks run the show, and they seem to be very temperamental and inconsistent. The serving staff seems to be dominated by the moods of the cooks. If the cooks are being temperamental, that experience is transferred out to the food service presenters who then pass it on to the customers, patrons, and residents. Generally it seems be best to avoid having anything to do with the dining room, unless one chooses to be aggravated and frustrated. There seems to be communication issues - lack of communication, and how information is communicated.

Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA's) are the heart of the operation, and come from all over the world. They are competent, cheerful, safe, clean, hard working and kind, as good as it gets IMHO. PT's, OT's and nurses do their jobs well, despite my desire to push myself too hard for my own good. There are some levels of administration missing for smooth running, but I understand this is temporary due to unexpected staff departures (for family and health reasons) If half-point ratings were available I would dock CLH a half-point because the food is awful. Some is inedible, diet orders are not followed, and it's always cold. Friends have ended up bringing me food, and given my low appetite that worked for me. The wonderful staff makes up for the poor quality of the meals, and then some. But be advised. The non-profit quality of caring is evident in the cheerful interior of the building, the architecture is airy and accessible, and the courtyard is lovely. CLA is not perfect, nor is anywhere. My first two weeks here were hard given the trauma of a post-op seizure, but I have felt safe and cared-for and I AM recovering. If, God forbid, I need rehab or long-term care, I would come back here.
