My mother is 92 years old and was looking for a place to stay that could meet her needs now and as she ages further. She loved the apartment and the meal plan options, as well as the ability to meet others with so many planned activities. She also has a dog and is happy to be able to have her move with her. Billy and Andrea did a great job with a tour of the facility and carefully going over the contract agreements. Andrea was great relating directly with my mother to ensure she understood everything. Billy took extreme care to ensure my mother's needs were met and covered in every way. The welcoming was wonderful! We really appreciate the personal care both took in addressing my mother's needs and the concerns of her family.

Review of Cogir Queen Anne Assisted Living Community…read more Greetings! I almost never write reviews but I had to for Queen Anne Cogir. I can't say enough good things about this place. My Mom was in the assisted living building and I was constantly amazed at the level of care she received. Everyone was extra helpful and went out of their way to make sure she felt special. The "care team" members including house keeping established friendships with her and treated her as if she were their own mother. I can't remember all their names but I do remember Natasha and her sister (who was Natasha's supervisor) and Amena. Marnie Walker the Sales Manager was the one who helped us make the decision to choose Cogir Queen Anne and we never had cause to regret it. I'm not sure how the management has been able to assemble such a caring and positive staff. Everyone we dealt with (and I mean literally everyone from the front desk to the kitchen workers) was upbeat, happy and seemed to genuinely like their job. I compliment Ken Klotz Executive Director for cultivating such an inviting climate. Maria Crespo the Business Office Manager was always ready with a cheerful and caring attitude to help with not just financial issues but with anything else needed. Ernie Vigil the Health and Wellness Director manages always to make time for an informal chat and was a real blessing in answering any questions we might have and taking a personal interest in Mom's well being. My mother never consistently got the care we were promised (e.g., got one shower per month vs. 3 per week in the plan, almost never wearing her compression socks vs. paying to have these on each day). As well, as someone with dementia, she mostly sat alone in her room. During the sales process we were told how skilled the staff were engaging with dementia residents. We didn't see that after moving in, so would complain, we'd see temporary improvement, but always short lived. Staff turnover is high. There were many really great people that provided good care, but were quickly gone. Ultimately we moved her to an adult family home which was light years better and a fraction of the cost.

Activities seem good though my mother-in-law doesn't participate as much as we hoped. The food, however, is really pretty bad. It's kosher so there are limitations but still they could do better. My mother in law does not really need kosher. It would be great if they could have two separate kitchens. If not, they just need to try harder and maybe hire a new chef. Many of the dishes are just plain weird. They make salmon a lot which is fine, but how many times a week do you want to eat salmon.

What stands out are the caring staff and all the cultural activities they have daily. From talks on opera, to book clubs, to live music amost every night, there's always something to keep you engaged (more than the typcial bingo and card games at most of these places). They also have many outings to cultural events, shopping, etc. and a shuttle to take you to the doctor/dentist and food shopping.The food could be better, but they serve kosher meals which adds some constraints. All in all, I highly recommend it!

Too many issues to list, but…read morethe highlights (lowlights): charged $ for services they didn't perform (like wheelchair maintenance, which I eventually did myself), charged extra $ for *not* doing the things they already charged $ for, didn't notify me when he was taken to the hospital, or had multiple falls, etc. etc. When you're looking for a place for a relative/loved one, it's all, "we're a family run business and we will treat your loved one like a family member". Once somebody is in their facility, it's all about the accounting/billing, and nickel-and-diming you to death. Except it wasn't nickels and dimes, more like $20's and $50's. I eventually moved him to another place that doesn't price gouge like this place does. I have never regretted that decision, not even once.

The food quality and service could be improved, but we ate at an odd time...2:30 pm on a Saturday. I can't say enough about the people running this... so many activities and the residents themselves are go-getter and so friendly. Beautiful facility ! We worked with the community relations Director and he was wonderful and helped us thru a very stressful process of convincing mom to leave her big house. He really knows how to talk to and relate to older persons, and he so committed and compassionate. He gave us incredible advice all along our journey to find a place for mom to live. He gave us incredible tips, referrals and information to help with the process. My mom chose this place out of all the ones we looked at, but due to timing issues and availability of units and some additional amenities she needed, we went with another wonderful Merrill Gardens property. She's dealing with progressing memory issues & simply adjusting to being a widow & apartment life. She loves all the staff - from management, the medical director, front desk, dining room, concierge, facilities, & cleaning staff - they are all kind, friendly, fun & supportive - not only to her but to me also. It feels like home to me too. The staff immediately took the time to learn my mums (and my) name and get to know her so she felt welcomed, seen and supported. They go out of their way to accommodate her needs, they are immediately responsive. She has challenges that they have recently found an amazing work around for, which will give her extra support & more purpose in her day. Amazing! She's lived in 2 different apartments in the building & both feel new, clean, fresh, bright. Very comfortable. The location is fantastic - walk a block or so right into the heart of Ballard, grocery store across the street, banks & pharmacy a block away. It's perfect. As soon as I met Ian (community relations director) an Lisa (general manager) when we toured the facility, I knew we had found her next home. They are absolutely wonderful people! Zero pretense - just down to earth, fun & really good at what they do. Transitioning her into the facility was easy (mostly for me) with thanks to how simple the staff made it - a big move after living in your home 30 yrs! Thank you Merrill Gardens at Ballard - you are making this challenging time in my mothers (and my) life so much easier. I also will say that I have spoken to several other Merrill Gardens management & community relations staff at their other locations & have found every one of them to be incredibly helpful, also going out of their way to assist. Because most of the public spaces were dramatically decorated and were small, and the exterior seemed less glamorous than many other facilities, we were not expecting to think of it highly. We were wrong. We found it to be an intimate and very cheerful option with lots of options for public living for people like us who don't need lavish. They had the services we might need. The food options were nice. we also really liked the size and feel of the apartments. It was also comforting to know there was a memory care floor so if that should become necessary, one could stay in the same facility. We also loved that our pet would be welcome and could even get walks through them should that be necessary. It also seemed like there would be less red tape about moving in. It moved high up on our list of potential options.

norse home is a perfect place for those with no family and limited options ..but if you have…read moreanother option ....RUN. much of the staff is nice but the management is ineffectual and self serving. im in assisted living due to a debilitating stroke and in addition to having no knowledge or experience with my type of disability they dont seem to care. they have call buttons, and its included in the bill, but often they dont respond to them....when i complain they suggest i call on the phone.my disability makes that difficult....but thats their reponse....services for assisted living are minimal..sometimes depending on who your aide is and what they are willing or have time to do. some of them have tempers and WILL put their hands on you while no one has hurt me it is demeaning and a rotten power play to use on a disabled person. the food is terrible (overcooked cafeteria food) the dining/kitchen staff is not very experienced but VERY nice and works hard to please.
