Combination Platter
Melanie D.

Excellent service! I ordered the combo platter, gyro sandwich and it came with fries, a salad and a generous amount of tzaziki. I was assuming I wouldn't have enough tzaziki so I made a note for more and the owner gave it to me for free! We did curbside pick up with was super easy - the food was great. Overall I'm super impressed and would love to try other stuff on their menu!

Douglaston Salad

After many years of my parents and brothers ordering from Aegea West, I finally came around to making a review because of how consistently good the pizzas and the salads are from here. There aren't many other restaurants that are as consistent with the quality of the dishes and ingredients as Aegea, with dishes like their extra-large pizzas pretty much feeding our entire family for dinner that day (parents and two brothers included). I will add a follow up review when we next order a pizza from them again just for the pictures for size scale, frankly nothing beats it in value, at least locally from personal experience. And whenever I am in the mood for something different, you cannot go wrong with the salads and wraps, a particular favorite and really consistent one being the Douglaston salad/wrap, which has every single ingredient compliment the rest rather well, the chicken cutlet, the honey mustard, the mozzarella, the lettuce and the pita, it all fits so well together we honestly can't stop ordering that dish haha (picture below). Just make sure to eat it when you pick it up/have it delivered when the chicken is still warm and it's perfect!

Horiatiki salad

My experience getting food from Aegea was a pretty good one. I got my food delivered and the service was great. They processed my order and cranked the food out of the kitchen in no time. There's a great variety of items on the menu, and some interesting fusions of different cuisines. I wanted to try them all, but I ended up getting the Horiatiki salad, gyro sandwich, pesto chicken pizza, and Aegea fries. The price totaled to ~$40 (for the food only), which I think is a reasonable and affordable price. My favorite was the aegea fries (I think their house fries) - they were well seasoned and perfectly loaded with cheese and bacon. The house signature sauce on the side was a nice addition as well. I also thought the other items were really good. The gyro sandwich was filled to the brim with a great combination of meat and vegetables, and put a stop to my hunger. The food I was most excited to eat was the pesto chicken pizza, and although I liked it and thought it was tasty, some aspects missed the mark. I couldn't get much of the familiar pesto chicken taste I was anticipating - most of the flavor was masked by a strong char taste in the crust. I enjoyed eating from Aegea and would recommend this place to anybody in the area craving Mediterranean food.

Regular pie with half pepperoni and half mushroom=delicious

Regular pie with half pepperoni and half mushroom=delicious Ordered online and done in less than 20mins it was all about the crust, crunchy flavorful; as you can see from the picture they were not stingy with the toppings I would definitely order from them again.

Surprisingly excellent pizza!

Aegea in Douglaston, is a Greek restaurant that happens to serve pizza. I wanted to try this place as we always drive by this area. We decided to eat in. Judging from the how often the phone rang and the bags of food waiting to be delivered or picked up, I think we made a good choice. We ordered two slices of pizza, a souvlaki plate, a gyro platter and a Greek salad. In totality, the food was above average. Three things stood out to me. The pizza was surprisingly really good, especially with the tomato sauce that they used. It was tart, in the old school way, and delicious. The souvlaki plate was also above average with tender pieces of pork grilled to perfection. As for the gyro platter, it was classic New York gyro, carved out of a giant gyro block. It was okay. What was very good about this dish was the side of tender bread and white sauce was included in the platter. It was so good, you could eat it on its own. I get the feeling that Aegea is generally a carry out or delivery restaurant as most of the business I saw was done that way. There is a small yet functional seating area, which is fine if you need to eat in. I would come again whenever I need a Greek food fix. I haven't tried the delivery method yet, but might because everyone else seems to do it!

Late night snacks

Stopped in here late at night after getting a Christmas tree on the side of the road. Gyros were great. Staff was very friendly considering how late it was. Has a pizzeria vibe but serving Greek food. Very interesting combination. The place is clean and decorated nicely. I haven't been here until now because it always seemed vey hard to find parking at while driving by. So I would like to come back during a busier time and see what this place is like then.

Love this salad. Must try.

Great food. I would have given it five stars but there is an annoying counter girl that is loud and ruins your dining experience.

This is, by far, the worst service I have ever experienced…read more I was really pulling for this place. I wanted it to succeed. I told everyone about it, that it was some of the best pizza in New York. I gave them so many chances. Last night was the final straw. Made a reservation for Friday night at 8PM. We arrived at 8:05. The waitress who's basically always there, who sounds like she smokes about a pack a day, was the only waitress there that night. I felt for her, but also, not my problem. We didn't receive water or a full set of utensils and menu until about 8:15. At about 8:25, she took our order, and we ordered a few apps and calzone and pizza. I had to ask for my coke about 4 times until she remembered to bring it. Water was NEVER refilled. We were never asked if we were ok. Around 8:50, we finally received our apps. It was ok, they've made it better in the past. Ambiance was starting to die down as the restaurant was clearing out. We felt a bit bad for her, but also, this wasn't our fault, that they were unprepared for a Friday night rush (her words). By 9:15, we were furious and our moods were ruined. We sat down at 8:05, ordered before 8:30, we were the only ones left and our pizza and calzone were yet to be found. Shortly before 9:30, it arrived. And again, it was pretty good, but not wait over an hour for it good. I wanted this place to succeed. The pizza maker from Italy deserves a better crew. The waitress doesn't know how to be a waitress, at all. No apologies, not taking anything off the check, not checking on us. There's no busboy, no one dedicated to take out, no manager. It seems that everyone plays each others roles, and quite poorly. They've lost a loyal customer tonight. We will NEVER give this place another try.

What started out as a snafu, turned into a lovely afternoon…read more We arrived for our reservation for 15 people on a snowy afternoon to find only 1 person working and no record of our reservation. Alessandro was wonderful and worked so hard to accommodate us all by himself. We decided to keep it simple and order a bunch of pizzas to share as well as a family style salad. Pizza was served one type at a time, it felt like a pizza tasting menu and I loved every second of it. We started off the the Margherita, which was simple and delicious. His dough is perfectly springy and light, but also has great flavor as does the sauce. Prosciutto Pie included mozzarella, arugula, prosciutto and shaved Parmigiano cheese. Another delicious version, you can feel the high quality of the ingredients with this one. Salsiccia Pie used a spicy soppressata, tomato sauce and mozzarella. It's hard to believe but each "course" seemed to be better than the last. Svetonio Pie has meatballs, tomato sauce, ricotta, crispy pancetta, kalamata olives and basil. This was the most complex pie in terms of flavors, but they all worked so well together. The Arugula Salad with cherry tomato red onion, mozzarella cubes was the perfect acidic accompaniment to the pizzas. The restaurant itself is small and rustic, but it felt so homey and made for a perfect spot for our little celebration. Everyone agreed the pizza was excellent all around. I can't wait to return to try more of the menu.

**Toskana Pizzeria -- grandma pie excellence, plus legit Neapolitan and Sicilian**…read more Toskana Pizzeria is one of the few neighborhood spots that can pull off *multiple* pizza styles without any of them feeling like an afterthought. If you're the type who actually notices crust structure, bake quality, and balance--not just "is there cheese on it?"--this place earns the five stars. **Grandma pie (the headline act):** This is the standard. The crust has real integrity--crisp edges, that satisfying caramelized corner bite, and a base that stays structured instead of collapsing into a soggy regret. The sauce tastes clean and well-seasoned (not overly sweet), and the cheese-to-sauce ratio is dialed in so each layer is doing its job. **Thin-crust Neapolitan:** Excellent bake and flavor. You get that lighter, more delicate feel with a proper chew, and the toppings don't overwhelm the dough. It's the kind of pizza that tastes "simple" in the good way--because the fundamentals are right. **Sicilian:** A lot of places treat Sicilian like a dense bread block with toppings. Not here. Their Sicilian is actually well-made--airy enough to enjoy, sturdy enough to satisfy, and baked so it has texture instead of being a soft slab. The common thread is consistency: everything feels deliberate, properly baked, and balanced. If you live in the area and you're not ordering from Toskana, you're basically choosing to make your life harder for no reason. Five stars.

Toskana is really close by and after seeing Dave Portnoy's review, I decided to check it out…read more Plain slice: Really solid. Nice cheese pull, good balance of sauce, and probably my favorite of the bunch. It held up well, not floppy at all, with a slight crisp on the bottom. BIG FAN! Chicken broccoli: Just OK. I've had better. The chicken was slightly burnt, which was disappointing. Grandma spinach & artichoke: Pretty good overall. It's similar in style to Artichoke Basille's Pizza, but not as rich or creamy. Margherita: Underwhelming. Nothing really stood out and I've definitely had better elsewhere. That said, I'd still go back just for the plain slice. You really can't go wrong with it. It's a thumbs up for me!

The atmosphere was warm, family-oriented, and comfortable. The prix fixe menu was excellent from beginning to end. For appetizers, my mom had the burrata with heirloom tomatoes, and my sister and I had Nonna's meatballs, which were delicious. My sister had the rigatoni, my mom had the salmon, and I had the short rib of beef, which melted in my mouth like butter -- that's how tender the meat was. For dessert, I had the cannoli's while my mom and sister enjoyed the chocolate lava cake. Everything was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The bathrooms were also nice and clean, which is always a plus. Our server was very pleasant and happened to be the only one working at the time, though with so few guests, it seemed to be all that was needed. We ordered the three-course lunch special. One set included the meatballs to start, followed by the chicken Parmesan and bomboloni for dessert. The other included a Caesar salad, tagliatelle Bolognese, and tiramisu. There was a bit of a longer-than-expected gap between the appetizer and the entrée, especially considering we were essentially the only table being served, as the other guests had already finished their meal. That was a little frustrating. Aside from that, most of the food was solid. The only real disappointment was the chicken Parmesan, which was quite overcooked. It was unfortunate given that the kitchen was only cooking for the two of us. That said, the mashed potatoes, an unusual pairing with chicken Parmesan were excellent: perfectly creamy and incredibly smooth. The tiramisu was also quite good, but the real standout was the bomboloni. I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed them, since fried doughnuts wouldn't normally be my first choice for dessert. I would definitely return.
