Adventure Texoma - Our catch!

Four words: HIRE A FISHING GUIDE!…read more Epic day on Lake Texoma, catching plenty of Stripers! Our fishing guide, RANDY, put us on fish from the get go. He knows this lake, inside and out. We had originally called another company (that advertises obnoxiously here - couldn't escape their ads). When we called, they were all booked up for weeks. I decided to look on Google maps to find other guides nearby. So glad we did!!! "Adventure Texoma" (not to be confused with another place with a very similar name!) popped up. Mark answered the phone, had availability when we wanted to book, and said we'd be with Randy. Easy-peasy. We showed up with our $12 Lake Texoma fishing licenses (acquired in town), and Randy supplied everything thing we needed to fish! We had 6 poles in the water for the most part, and lost count of fish, but it's tied over a dozen a piece! My husband also caught a good sized catfish (our largest fish of the day)! I also caught a freshwater drum, and the largest striper of the day! We agreed to call it a draw. Decided to catch and release them all. Probably should have kept one of the bigger stripers. Nevertheless, what a fun and fulfilling day! We we comfortable, and Randy is an easy guy to talk to. Thanks for everything!

Sure all the other guides were calling him for tips because they weren't getting bites. But! Mark made fishing fun and exciting for those of us that prefer to cast/reel and not so much with touching the fish. He kept all our poles well baited and in the water! We caught our limit and had a blast!

So far, we think that this is the most popular launch spot on the lake. We haven't covered the…read morewhole lake yet but, so far, that is the way it looks. It cost $5 cash to launch here. They have year round passes but they aren't economical for the summer boater. The ramp is very, very good and can handle up to four launches at a time though most often people are more comfortable with three at a time. Launching here is an art form. Except for the occasional idiot or jerk, people launch and trailer here with amazing speed and efficiency. I have only once seen one guy (with a boat that cost more than my house) take up a spot for 45 minutes because it wouldn't start. So it does happen. But this is not a place to practice launching. Know what you are doing and "get er done". This place is always hopping. Usually there is plenty of trailer parking but sometimes, like holidays, you may end up parking your trailer on the grass. If you are in a car, please do not take up a trailer space with your subcompact. Arghhh! That is soooo frustrating. The only down side to launching at Highport is there is an extremely long no-wake zone getting out of the marina and the gas dock bites compared to Buncombe's. Still, there's lots of neat things to see as you make it through the no-wake zone. People have "done up" their slips with bars and kitchens and artwork. I am in awe of the huge boats moored here. As for gassing up, it is a self serve pump and you have to pay first and then fight other boaters for the hose. Well, you have to sit and stew when some other boater jumps in front of you even though it was obvious that you were next up. Also, we like to go out on a wave runner and Highport only has a platform for jet skis with two spaces and, on a busy weekend, will take up the spaces with rental jet skis. I highly recommend launching here and popping over to Buncombe marina to gas up.

The absolute worst experience of my life. The owners, man and wife, both were intoxicated when we…read morereturned the boat. They had a bottle of jack Daniels and a bottle of wine sitting out. told them we had no gas and the boat was barely ableTo make it to the fuel dock. They went absolutely crazy when I told them we tried to fill up but weren't sure because the gas attendant said the fuel gage was broken. They said it had gas in the other tank. I said that no one told us there was another tank and no one told us not to fill up. She got in my face saying I was going to be buying her boat. Her husband then screamed at me and used the F word in front of my 3 kids, and 3 other families kids. These people should be in a mental facility, not owning a boat renting service.

The lady at the counter refused to rent the other jet ski out . She only let my husband rent one. .. There IS NO SUCH LAW and I don't know if it was because my nephews were young and brown skinned... and she was just being a racist POS , but I know Little Mineral & Red duck will NEVER get my business again! If you don't want Certain people of color and ages renting your equipment then Post it! I can't imagine why you would lie to them. Your Little business ruined what was supposed to be a day of fun, that they have once a year with us! Thanks a lot! . I will MAKE CERTAIN that everyone I KNOW in this area hears how you treated these boys!! Such BS

It was a fun adventure taking the bobbing bridge down to this floating marina store and fuel dock…read more The buoyancy of the bridge conjures childhood memories of playground bridges--not the easiest route for those with stability challenges--but a joy for those in touch with their inner child! I learned from the two young men working yesterday that once COVID threat has subsided this location will begin renting paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, and pontoon boats again. In the meantime, the store is recently re-opened and sparsely supplied with some basic camping supplies, snacks and drinks, Havana flip flops, hot/cold thermoses/water bottles, and yacht club tanks/tees for sale. It's a small, humble establishment but was doing some steady business fueling boats. **I'd love to see this place offering fresh burgers/deli sandwiches but maybe that'd bring too much of a crowd of hungry boaters;). Speaking of hunger--to support this local business, I purchased my first ever pickle in a pouch! It was a a Tapatio's Salsa Picante and it was delicious!! My partner was skeptical but enjoyed his fair share;) Fortunately, there are many trash bins throughout the state park (where we headed after) to dispose of the leftover pickle juice and pouch. If you're supplied with some whiskey, this would be great for campsite/onboard picklebacks!!
