My family and I have been bringing all of our dogs to Fullerton Animal Hospital since 2010. This…read moreplace has changed so much since going corporate. It was difficult to notice the changes at the beginning of the pandemic because owners were not permitted to enter the facility with their pets. With the restrictions being recently lifted, the corporate influence is much more palpable. Our dog has been experiencing some concerning symptoms of consistent coughing since mid-February. We immediately called for an emergency appointment and it was determined that he has a heart murmur (it is at a 3 on a scale of 1-6). They prescribed a diuretic and told us that they recommended an EKG. We completed the prescription diuretic and scheduled the EKG for March 1st. I took him in for the EKG at 8am on March 1st. He was boarded for about half of the day. I noticed that he was shaking his head very vigorously when I picked him up. He had NOT been doing this prior to his appointment, so I called the office to let them know immediately. They assumed that I was implying that I thought they had done something to his ears. I don't think they did anything to his ears, but I do know that he was not experiencing this issue prior to being dropped off. I mentioned this issue to the vet when she called with the results of his EKG, but told her at the time it seemed that the issue had subsided. He was placed on a round of antibiotics unsuccessfully for the coughing issue. He has continued shaking his head since, so I called again today and the customer service that I received was hostile at best. We have spent over $1k trying to get to the bottom of whatever the original issue is with our dog and it is still not resolved. He now has an additional issue that he is experiencing and I cannot help but feel a bit frustrated. Update: Dr. Unger did return my call and offer a complementary ear exam. We don't have any clear answers, but it is being suggested that these issues might be stemming from a variety of things such as bronchitis and allergies. He has been prescribed ear drops and a cough suppressant. We'll continue tackling this issue to see how we can keep Chester comfortable.

We take our dog weekly for laser treatments to Loving Pet Care. We also take our cats on an "as…read moreneeded" basis. Dr. Bishop is very knowledgeable and personable. When he is available, he checks in on our dog to see how he is doing. The treatment itself is administered, most of the time, by the technician who runs the desk. She does it all (at least on Saturdays). She checks people out, schedules appointments, gives laser treatments and clips nails. Every once in a while this can cause delays, like that one week where the lady was giving her pet's life story and running through her entire month schedule while trying to set up a follow up appointment. The line got three deep that time. That was an exception. The majority of the time we are in and out with our scheduled appointment. Overall, prices are reasonable and Dr. Bishop and his staff are personable and total animal people. That's exactly what I want from a veterinarian.

The more I think about this and the more people I speak to about it, the stronger I am in my…read moreconviction that our vulnerability was preyed upon monetarily by this company. Our cat was in desperate need of euthanasia and it happened abruptly - I phoned around that day and this was a vet who could come that same day. His fee quoted was $395 (I was ok with that) and an additional $295 as a new patient! Yes - a new patient who was going to be dead within hours of procuring the service. I'm scratching my head over this and cannot reconcile the - well, the unethical behavior -- The vet was kind and very professional - But this monetary component has left me with a very sour outlook. (I haven't even mentioned that I was told he would arrive at 6:30 --- was then phoned at 6 to confirm that he was on his way -- only to wait another 90 minutes (the location is 25 minutes from my home)). Save for this shady handling of fees, I would readily have considered using this vet in the future as it is closer to my home --- but not now. If I hadn't been so desperate to help my cat, I would have chosen another route.

The team took my concerns seriously, explained what they were seeing, and made sure I understood the treatment plan before we left. They were kind, patient, and gentle with Max, and I never felt rushed or dismissed. I especially appreciated being able to call back with a follow-up concern after we got home and having the veterinarian talk it through with me. When your dog is family, it matters to feel like the people caring for him understand how seriously you take his health. I felt that at VEG and would absolutely return if Max ever needed emergency care again.

While…read moreit is always an expensive and heart-wrenching endeavor, VEG Pikesville did an amazing job at making an unbearable time that much more bearable. Their entire staff (at least the 10 or so I interacted with) are incredibly kind and compassionate. They let you stay with your animal, and don't rush you or pressure you. In addition to the kindness, the quality of care was excellent. Not sure how things are going to turn out for my boy Grady, but I know they would be much worse if we hadn't come in. Thank you to everyone there for showing the kind of compassion I know is very hard to sustain in this field.

We took Samson in for a visit and they did some tests, which showed there were issues... could have been cancer, kidney issues, a chronic infection, etc. but without additional testing, they couldn't be sure. They DID NOT tap into our emotions and recommend more testing. They suggested we keep a close eye on him and monitor his condition. A week later, I called and talked to Jennifer... well I talked and cried. How would I know when it was time? She listened and was so kind and understanding. A week later, Samson wasn't able to stand on his hind legs and would walk a few steps and fall over. It was devastating. We called before we took him in and the staff was waiting for us with kindness and compassion. We stayed with Samson the entire time until we had to say goodbye. Not only has Dr. Ramappa and the staff taken care of Samson for most of his life, but they were also there at the end. The experience of losing a beloved pet is so difficult but the entire staff were wonderful. We even received a lovely sympathy card a few days later that everyone signed. There isn't enough space to write how good this team is. They love every pet that comes through their doors, and they do the right thing by you and your pet. The space they are in now reflects the importance and love for our pets. I highly recommend them to be your pet's doctor!

For what I needed, she gave my dog a through exam, listened to what I told her about my dog and showed her a short video I took so she could understand more of what I was seeing at home. After the exam, Dr. McLewee talked to me for about 40 minutes about what should be done diagnostically to see if they could find out what is going on. After our discussion, she sent Jessica in with two estimates for me and indicated she would send the notes from the visit to both me and my primary vet within a week or so. I certainly left with answers but also more questions for what I should do with my 15 year old sweet dog. The $310 for an initial visit with this doctor was certainly an expense for me but reasonable enough to get this full assessment for my dog. I had been to another provider in this practice for my other dog and it was much more for the initial visit. I highly recommend both this doctor and this practice.
