I had high hopes for Parkwood Pet Resort because it is new, conveniently located in Pikesville, and…read moremuch closer to me. I live in Owings Mills and normally drive to Downtown Dog Resort in Locust Point with my 70-pound, fawn-colored Lab/Pit mix, Buffy. I thought I'd try somewhere closer for a weekend boarding stay. Lesson learned: convenience isn't everything. I went to Parkwood on Thursday for a tour, Buffy's temperament test, and to pay the deposit for her Friday and Saturday stay. The young woman at the front desk was wonderful. She greeted Buffy warmly, gave her nose kisses, gave us a tour, and then took Buffy back for her temperament test. About five minutes later, she returned and told me everything went fine and that Buffy was a sweet dog. I left feeling very good about the facility. Then Friday happened. A different employee, Elizabeth, was working. The atmosphere immediately felt different. She didn't warmly greet me or Buffy. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt--it was Friday, after all. As we went through Buffy's food, I also had treats for her. Elizabeth told me they could only feed dogs during scheduled feeding times. I explained these weren't a meal, just treats, but I accepted that they had their rules. Buffy is trained and wears a correction collar. I was then told she could not wear it there and that I would either have to drive home for a different collar or purchase one from them. At this point, I was starting to wonder if they really wanted Buffy there, but I tried not to read too much into it. Then another dog, whom I'll call "P," arrived. P and Buffy barked at each other. To me, this was normal excited dog behavior. P's owner didn't seem concerned and even stopped to pet Buffy. Elizabeth, however, reacted as though Buffy had done something seriously wrong. She then brought out her own small dog to see how Buffy would react. Buffy simply sniffed and walked around her. The small dog began barking at Buffy, and Elizabeth said, "Oh, she's just setting boundaries." That was interesting to me. When her dog barked, it was "setting boundaries," but when Buffy barked, it seemed to be a problem. Elizabeth then took Buffy to the back with larger dogs. Again, Buffy and another dog walked around each other and barked. Elizabeth immediately brought Buffy back out and told me maybe she was just excited that day, but they couldn't have her there. She offered a refund and suggested I try their West Baltimore location instead. If Buffy's temperament was genuinely unsuitable for Parkwood, I can respect their decision. What I couldn't understand was why she passed the temperament test the day before, why I was told she was a sweet dog, and then suddenly wasn't welcome the next morning. And if her behavior was truly the issue, suggesting another location within the same company didn't make much sense to me. I asked for my refund and left. I was told it would take 3-5 days. As I was leaving, I saw other dogs arriving who were also barking and getting excited. Dogs bark. Dogs get excited. That's normal. What bothered me was the apparent difference in how that behavior was interpreted when it came from Buffy. At first, I thought perhaps I had simply encountered a staff member who wasn't a good fit for us. I later learned Elizabeth is the owner, which honestly changed my perspective. I'm simply sharing my experience as a paying customer and dog owner. I also tried to share this on Google, but reviews are currently disabled. Interesting. Buffy has been boarded and trained at Downtown Dog Resort in Locust Point for about two years. They know her, work with her, treat her like family, and she gets excited before we even get off the 95 exit because she knows where she's going. She boards frequently, swims there, and always comes home happy, clean, and exhausted. I made the mistake of thinking a newer, closer facility would be worth trying. It wasn't. Not every dog daycare and boarding facility is created equal. I learned that lesson the hard way. So, consider this my apology to Downtown Dog Resort for ever thinking I could find the same level of care simply by going somewhere closer. If you want a place that genuinely knows your dog, treats them like family, and makes them excited to walk through the door, I personally recommend Downtown Dog Resort in Locust Point. Buffy and I will happily make the drive.

If you're in the Hampden area and looking for a pet store, check them out!…read more As a cat owner, I did not specifically look through the selection so can't say much but just upon walking in most of the items looked like it was for dogs. For cats, they have a small room dedicated and they even had free samples of kibble. They also have a cute kitty named Louis walking around greeting everyone! He was such a sweetheart and I would've stayed there petting him all day if I didn't have brunch reservations. The staff were super friendly and took a moment to chat with us as we loved up with Louis. The pricing here seemed comparable to other stores.

TLDR: After years of loyal regular large orders, staff rudely dismissed my accessibility issue,…read morewere rude about me spending a lot at their store, and pushed me to stop shopping here altogether. I've been regularly shopping here for years with very large orders. This year I usually placed the orders online, but then I noticed an issue where some cans are only available to be purchased only "by the case" and not as singles, even though they actually were available as singles in the store. I politely explained the issue and started ordering through the phone to get around it. Then one day, over the phone, a cashier who I'm familiar with was extremely rude to me and told me that no one else is having that online issue. (I was shopping there for so long and didn't realize the issue until a couple of years, so I'm sure others have just been assuming things are out of stock, when in reality they are not.) I tried to explain to him what the issue was, but before I could even start he cut me off while I was speaking and said he would take my order and when we were done just hung up abruptly. I had always felt that staff were friendly before, but the unwillingness to address or even try to understand this issue and on top of that be rude to me unprompted was just so hurtful. It honestly hurts so much after being such a big supporter of them for years There is an element of ableism to this story too. As they know, the reason I only do online orders and have a friend pick them up is because I'm disabled. Their unwillingness to try to understand or address the issue I brought up is an issue of accessibility. This weighs so heavy on me. I would have been fine if they had told me they were looking in to it, and can't fix this issue right now, but just to call them. But with the rudeness on this call, the cashier made it clear that they didn't want me to make call orders. This effectively means I have to stop shopping at the store. Also, the three different cashiers I spoke to on the phone over the months I was phone ordering were aware of the website issue I brought up, so to ignore it was clearly a Howl team decision, not just a matter of one cashier being rude to me. But I did have many positive experiences here, which is why I was so loyal. Back when I used to go in person, the staff used to help me bring my order to the car and pack stuff in my car because I was not able to carry things. Everyone was so friendly to me. I also appreciated how they encouraged masking throughout the pandemic. I used to love going in to this store! I appreciated their selections and it made me happy. I would like to add that there was another uncomfortable experience I had at the store which I ignored since it wasn't that hurtful, but it's worth mentioning in this review. As I said, I place very large orders, because I have three cats that only eat wet food, and this was the only place I got their food from. One of the cashiers (different person than above) started routinely making comments to me about how much money I was spending on cat food. It wasn't just once or twice, he made these comments on the order of ten times. Then, one day my dad was in town and came into the store to pick up the order I had placed online. This cashier made comments to my dad about how much money I was spending on cat food. My dad then gave me a lot of trouble over it I just found those comments to be so inappropriate. Also they seemed to imply me spending money at their store was a bad or shameful thing. I've only ever been friendly to them! I've never been rude or to my knowledge done anything to be a bad customer. I have stopped shopping here. It doesn't really seem like I had a choice. They seem to not want my business for whatever reason. And what was once an accessible store to me is no longer. I think that hurts more than a store being inaccessible right off the bat, because I supported them heavily for so long and they knew me. So much for supporting small businesses. I never did any price comparisons before because I truly wanted to support them and not Amazon. But I found out that the cans I was ordering are cheaper elsewhere. I guess the Universe just wanted me to save some money. I hope they fix these issues. I won't be recommending Howl to anyone anymore. Thank you to Howl for all of the cat provisions throughout the years, and goodbye

Best Vet we've found in Baltimore!…read more To give some background: we used to take our dog Luna, a 1.5 yr Chihuahua that has congenital renal dysplasia and recurring pancreatitis, to Eastern Animal Hospital. Eastern was ok at first, until about a year ago, and are now just a disaster. There are so many Vets that work at that practice it's a different vet every time, there's not much personal empathy expressed by them, not much listening and understanding, no relationship with your pet...they're a machine: get your pet in and get them out. They still take forever, so it's for nothing anyway. Whenever you call for questions you're ALWAYS talking to a technician who doesn't have any background knowledge on your pet and *their history*. We are very thankful for the staff at Eastern, just not quite the right fit for us. We knew about Aardmore because it was geographically the closest vet to our house and we ended up rushing our cat there one day and had a good experience. We decided to start taking Luna there after that because of our bad experiences at Eastern. Wow, what a difference! We have taken Luna twice over the last couple of weeks and already have a great relationship with Dr. Tuckerman. She is wonderful. She is smart, understanding, and a great listener. She always remembers exactly who we are and who Luna is, and understands her unique medical history. We explained the treatment plan we had with Eastern and she already has helped us with some new treatment ideas and suggested a different prescription diet. She put in a prescription for us to have nausea medicine on-hand for when Luna's pancreatitis strikes and that's a lifesaver. This clinic is smaller than others and doesn't many, many vets, so its nice to always be able to see Dr. Tuckerman and be able to reach her. She really does care when she asks for updates on your pet. Alongside Luna's experience at Aardmore, our cat Tenley went in for a mass under his tongue. We worked with Dr. Pineau, and he was also kind and knowledgable and did an excellent job removing the mass. Tenley healed from surgery very quickly and easily and seems much healthier (and thank goodness the mass was benign). We are so glad that Aardmore is here in our community. They really WANT to help our pets and they make sure to take good care of us humans as well. For those of us that LOVE your pets, we are very serious about veterinary care, and we are very happy with Aardmore so far. Thank you Dr. Tuckerman and Dr. Pineau!
