So this was my first time visiting this vet. I just got a new fur-baby. The visit and staff were VERY nice. However, the level of care and attentiveness was deplorable. I had to ask questions of the doctor, which he answered. But he answered each question without looking at the animal?! When one of the issues that he made seem so simple and unimportant got worse (2-days later), it was VERY hard to speak with the doctor. When I finally got a call back, I was asked to bring my pet in for another exam...DUDE, we were just there!! Why didn't you take the time to check it out then? I will own a small portion as I should have pushed the issue. But when you (as the resident expert) acts like it's no big deal, I believe you and found comfort in your prognosis. I don't have time to come back for you to address an issue that you opted to brush off. I was advised that a medication for another issue for my pet was available. I tried to call to see how much it would be. I was put on hold for 10-minute. I called back and was put on hold without the person so much as saying hello (4-minute). I hung up and called back and was put on hold again (5-minute)...ok you MUST be super busy. I'll just swing by. I go to the office to pick up medication. I see a "tech" take a dog outside. The dog poops. The tech and the dog came back inside and left the poop outside?!?!? How in the world do you work for a vet and leave poop outside?!?? No thanks, My pet and I deserve better!! The absolute BEST vet in the area. I have a nervous, busy, reactive dog and a small, laid-back, senior dog both of whom have received stellar care from Dr. Benson and his outstanding staff. I boarded my dog 7/21/24. I was told the latest I could pickup on 7/28/24 was 5:30pm. When I arrived on 7/28/24 at approximately 3:15pm the clinic was closed. The note taped on the front doors said as of 7/22/24 the clinic closes at 2pm. on Sundays. I received no communication from the clinic of the new hours. After knocking and calling for approx 30 minutes an employee came from the back. The employee refused to release my dog. The employee said that it was the office manager's fault for not calling with news of the new Sunday hours. This is the 4th time the clinic has changed hours without notification while my dog was in boarding. I am insulted by the lack of consideration. read more

My cat's name was Number 2, a white long hair Persian. He was the sweetest cat with the most gentle demeanor. He was loving with anyone who would approach him. He loved his belly rubbed and made the funniest face as we tickled him making yum yum sounds. He loved his sleeping spots, he had a basket, a fuzzy house, a pretty carrier but he loved a box we got from Costco he made his own and we could not take it away. He would love everyone who visited even animals. We had him for 9 years and 9 days. He was acting different and was not eating much. His back legs started giving up. I took him to another veterinarian at Animal Care Center in Joppa where Dr. Robert Tishman said he needed Enemas! He had 2 enemas and said he could have cancer or constipation. That dr. said the word euthanasia instead of the word enema! Dr. Tishman has no people skills and He made me cry. I wish I would never taken my cat that other vet, he was mistreated and came home in worse shape. I told my husband and he said we need to find Dr. Benson, if anyone in the world would know how to take care of an animal is him. My husband called his office, in the past Dr. Benson performed surgery to his beloved dog and also was there with him to gently tell him was no hope as he put him down. Based on the past history with Dr. Benson we did not hesitate to take Number 2 to him. Number 2 was weak and had lost so much weight. He quickly examined him and saw his xrays. He put him on an IV. He spent the night there. Dr. Benson took care of my kitten, gave us updates and kept us informed. The following day he said we could come visit with Number 2. My son and I went to see him and gave him love hoping he would recover. His white cell counts were getting higher and higher. We said goodbye to him wishing for the best. Dr. Benson gave us an update that he was put into oxygen, also made another call to my husband. Dr. Benson with his professional and expertise explained how my beloved Number 2 could not recover. The blockages the other inept veterinarian in Joppa said was constipation, there were cancerous tumors that blocked his intestines. He said he might not make it. I asked if I could come to see him. He said yes. I left work in Aberdeen and arranged to meet my husband half way so we could go together. My husband asked me to park and gave me the bad news that he had passed. I have been so sad and missing Number 2. I think of him every day. Dr. Benson offered to cremate him because of this Covid 19 virus and my extreme sadness we have not gotten the ashes this past week. I don't know what I would have done without the care of Dr. Benson and his practice. Everyone has been above and beyond with care and empathy for my kitten's condition. Have used this place since 2004 for both our cats - the staff is great and the Dr.s have been great with our cats - our cats are very territorial so when I take them the staff is always prepared to deal with them in a very gentle manner. Have used them for boarding as well a number of times and they take great care of them. Have had to have two surgeries for our one cat and they were very informative every step of the way. We had to have one put down and they could not have been more sympathetic and supportive for our loss. read more

Had a out of the blue emergency with our Shorkie & noticed 2 ticks on her. Called a Vet that couldn't take her until Monday & we definitely couldn't wait that long (another 5 days). So, we called Advanced Vet & spoke with Sam. Sam explained to us how to handle the situation & got us an appointment immediately. She was very kind & helped us to calm down from our panick mode we were in. After our Shorkie was taken back, Alex then worked on her to take the tick out! He then explained to us what to do to help the healing process go faster for our Shorkie. They were so understanding and patient. We will definitely be back to see them!!! My pets were patients at AVC for 15 years. Dr. Benson did help us when he could, as did Dr. Simpson, but the rest of the vets there that we saw were, in my opinion, not entirely competent. What others say about extremely unprofessional vet techs is quite true. Of course not everyone is rude, but unfortunately many are. When I voiced my complaint to Dr. Benson, instead of listening to the legitimate issues we had encountered during a hospitalization period with both vet techs and staff veterinarians, he chose to side with his staff and blamed the client. Dr. Benson is a knowledgeable vet, but he is human, and as such, he does not know everything. Once, during a complex case, when we sought a second opinion from an Internist, he made it very clear that he was unhappy about it. The solution for Osteosarcoma is not to chop off your beloved animal's limb; there ARE other options including Stereotactic Radiation Therapy that can save the limb. Though you likely will save money at AVC, it's wrong to assume ALL pet guardians want to save money and therefore they don't need to see board certified veterinarians, who are simply more qualified to address more involved cases such as cancer. read more

We were recommended Advanced Vet (specifically Dr. Benson) from a dog rescue for the reasonable pricing and vet experience. I've been bringing my dogs to see Dr. Benson for several years now and feel I can offer a well rounded review at this point. Anyone who has rescued dogs knows it can be a bit of a roller coaster, but Dr. Benson has been a rockstar when it comes to identifying and treating issues that pop up. My first experience was very scary - we learned that our newly adopted dog, who was treated for heart worms before we adopted him, still had them. They were so severe that the first treatment (not by Dr. Benson) was not successful. We trusted him with the second treatment and he has been worm free for years now with no side effects. From standard wellness visits to specialty visits for lumps & bumps, advanced vet has always delivered precise and caring treatment. Not to mention, they have great hours and we have never had problems getting appointments within the time frame that they are needed. I've never had any experiences with "rude" staff. Yes, there can be a wait and yes, you may be put on hold for some time on the phone. I have seen some nasty customers while I was waiting... and it always impresses me that the staff keeps their cool. The staff has always been professional toward me and my pups, but I've also treated them with nothing but respect. I will say that I cannot speak to the skills of the other vets at the location as I do not have experience with them. The only negative thing that I can think of is that I feel that they may be understaffed on occasion which is why I'm dropping a star. read more

Throughout the experience, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's just not worth it. Today we had to send our greyhound Amber over the rainbow bridge. Dr. Bensen, and everyone of his staff who helped us, were so kind and accommodating. They gave her a pink blanket and comforted her until she crossed over to the Lord and all her furry friends gone before her. We will miss her greatly, but the understanding and compassionate care of Dr. Bensen and staff helped make such a difficult situation so much better. Thanks once again Dr. Bensen and staff! Do not go here. I went in with my cat, Rupert, to get rabies vaccine and nail trim. The vet was great and friendly; however, they didn't clip his front right paw! I called them to let them know they missed a paw to try to come in and have them do it only to be told on the phone that "we have in our notes that we did it so you will have to pay the fee again". SERIOUSLY? His freaking paw was not trimmed I cant magically grow nails... They make a mistake and try to have you pay for it. I definitely do not recommend going here. What if the mistake was a complication during surgery or something more serious than forgetting to cut all 4 paws... UPDATE: After calling them back and trying to speak to a manager [I really liked the vet and thought he was awesome so I just wanted to inform the manager why they lost a customer] they informed me that they would trim the nails for free. Dr. Benson is one of the most trust-worthy, honest, and caring vets I've encountered. Many years ago we went to him for a 2nd opinion on a torn ACL. No, no torn ACL although he could've said otherwise and charged us $1000 for a repair that the other vet was more than happy to take double for. In a matter of a few days, our dog was fine, just as Benson expected. Years later and we've ended back here, not caring any more that the location is not at all convenient for us. For over a year he has expertly and judiciously taken care of several of our foster dogs, giving very practical advice and very reasonable service. The front office staff has always been professional. Yes, there are high volume times when I call and there's a long hold time or I have to call back but I don't consider that rude. Whenever I'm there, the front office staff is very busy handling calls, communicating with vets, checking clients in and out. So glad we're back with him and I'd recommend him to anyone. read more

I've been taking various pets to Dr. Benson and Advanced Vet since 1992. We've had dogs, hamsters, and cats in that time and we're always treated with compassion and been able to get appointments in a timely manner, sometimes immediately.. His practice has other vets who have come and gone (some have been there for many years) and we've seen most of them with similarly good results. My sister has a dog that was diagnosed with "a cancerous" growth. I went to the facility to pay for the surgery only to find out that the growth was a cyst that had "resolved itself" however, since the dog was already under anesthesia, they decided to ( without consent ) pull 2 teeth and clean the others. The bill is now $250. I now have the choice to either pay the bill and write this review or refuse to pay the bill all together. Obviously, I've decided to pay the bill and do the consumer community a favor by alerting everyone as to how unscrupulous the practice of this facility is. I understand that they need to run a business and make money doing so. But , consider this.... If you took your car in for an oil change and went to pick it up and found the dealership put a set of tires on as well, would you be happy? I didn't think so!!!! Please learn from my lesson. Dr. Benson is really great and very knowledgeable about greyhounds (who often have specific health concerns and whose blood work comes back looking different than the average dog). I feel very confident taking my beloved greyhound here (and I drive all the way from Baltimore city). Their prices are very reasonable for visits, procedures, and medication. My only complaint is that I am often put on hold for a long time when I call to schedule an appointment, but I will deal with that as long as my dog is well taken care of. read more

We have a Lhasa Apso(Baxter) and tonight he jumped off the kids bed and injured his front left leg. He couldnt even stand up. We ran into Advanced to get x-rays to see if his leg was broken. The Vet on duty massaged the leg and tested the flexibility and damn if Baxter didnt start walking around the office. He still hobbled a bit but he was walking. The Vet did not recommend the x-ray at this time. She gave a prescription for anti inflammatory pills and said watch him closely for the next few days. If it doesn't get better than bring him back in. The kicker to this whole story is we GOT charged a STANDARD VISITATION RATE PLUS PILLS. $55.00. Thats a real bargin. In the past we have paid upto $75.00 just walking in the door and another $150.00 for x-rays. That $75.00 was the Emergency rate. read more

I have a very sweet cat that for a while has had problems with her mouth,I took her to the vet that I have had for yrs,They checked,not really did anything,Did not really exam her mouth,The little thing would not eat and there was blood sometimes,They suggested I find a dentist for cats.I know how expensive they are but to prevent her from hurting I would,A friend of ours suggested Advanced vet,Dr benson actually,I took her in,The staff is so nice,polite and caring,Plus they are open 7days a week till 9.Well when dr benson looked at her he said her mouth was bad,She had something like gingivitus is humans,Her gums were all swollen and bleeding,I am sure it hurt,He suggested to pull all the teeth,He pulled all but 2 top and 2 bottom,After she came home she started feeling better and ate,Took her back 2 weeks for check up.everything looked good,That was about march 2020,In May my sister said that she is eating but having issues still,I called and took her back,She still has a little swelling on her gums,Oh forgot to say he used a laser instead reg cutting and stitches.He gave her a steroid shot and antibiotics,This was on May 24.She is back to her old self actually better,she is very vocal which she never was,and eats like a pig,Good to see her play and eat,I have to take her back in a couple weeks.I think he want to laser a little more off,He dont want to do alot because of the bleeding,He is a very though Dr.Very good .My pets love him,The cost of doing this also was a fraction of what it would cost at a specialist,which Dr benson is one,My little girl is so happy and bright eyed.I just wish I did not wait so long,Also I asked if it was somrthing I did not do,He said some cats have a bad immune system from birth.I am glad cause I would not do anything to hurt her. read more

I am very serious! I would not take a goldfish to that facility. I was referred there after relocating to MD. The communication was non-existing and when I asked questions about the well-being of my 5 lb dog who was asleep for hours for a wash and cut. (High Anxiety) As a Nurse, I inquired about the "sedated and waiting for a bath" situation. I decided that I wanted to wait for my dog. That seemed to be a problem. I went to lunch and returned; the Dr. came out and told me to sign her out AMA (Against Medical Advice) if I wanted to take her home before 4:00 pm. The first I had heard about 4 pm! I would never have taken her home given the circumstances of the sedation! So, let her develop respiratory complications on my watch! I know not! If you love your pet like family, protect it! My dog was not assigned to Dr. Benson... regardless! He can't see all the animals! "Not my Baby!" And the grooming sucked, I know my dog was asleep longer than it took her to do the mop job my 5 lb Yorkie received! Grooming was her specialty, said the business card! Lies on paper! Lengthy sedation is not good for humans or dogs! Why drop my pet off at 7:30, go away and just come back at 4:00 pm for a bath! BEWARE, you have no right to be concerned! Have been here many times and this made me never want to take me animals there ever again. Our dog died and we called and they said they could handle cremation services. When we arrived, the vet tech was mouthy and rude and continued to be for the rest of the time there.We called at least an hour prior and they had reassured that they would be ready but when we came we were redirected three times and eventually led out back and instructed to put the dog on the dirty floor. We were disheartened by the fact that we didn't even have a private room. We were simply in the middle of the vet. When we bent down to say goodbye we were screamed at to get out. Do not go here if your pet is sick or dying or deceased because they don't handle it properly at all. Very upset about this. read more

What's the appropriate amount of stars for the vet who turned away my dying dog? I guess one? I lost my best friend last night. She was the best, funniest, kindest most loving dog that's ever been a dog. Yesterday she wasn't doing too well. We called the vet who said they would be open until 10pm even though it was 4th of July. A few hours later she took a turn for the worst and even though it was only 8pm once we got her to the clinic they reported they were closed. The vet and staff were all still there they just couldn't take the time to see her. They referred her to another animal hospital over 30min away and she passed in the backseat of the car on the way there. Instead of being surrounded by the people she loved and given medication to minimize her pain she was left to die in the back seat of a station wagon. The only thing worse than losing my pet is knowing the people who should have cared about her couldn't be bothered. She was a great dog and deserved so much better. Oh, I really want to like this facility. I've tried, just can't do it. Which is a shame, because it is the closest to our home. My mother has an abundance of felines. One of which was diagnosed with diabetes. The cat was an in-patient for several days because of ketoacidosis. They did a fine job saving his life. I know I should be grateful and not returning a croaked cat to my mother might sound like a 5 star situation. It's what happened upon discharge that I just can't deal with. The discharge instruction were as follows: 'Tabby has been stable on I.V insulin, we are prescribing one unit twice daily of Vetsulin' Okay, I'll need some of that then. Oh, no you already have it. Well, no, no we don't. My mother does not give the cat insulin. So I'll need some to go. The vet tech, then explains that they are prescribing insulin that they have on hand for in-patients only. For out-patients, not so much. Well, then, how would you suggest that I obtain this medication? Do you think I could get it from 1-800 Pet Meds? I don't know, was her reply. I called another Vet's office, to ask if they had the Vetsulin on hand to fill a prescription. Advanced was supposed to fax the prescription to them. Surprise, after waiting in line for 20 minutes, no such prescription existed. I asked the employee there if she could call Advanced for the script. No, she said. It would be quicker for you to drive there. At this point, I'm expecting Alan Funt or Ashton Kutcher to inform me that I'm on Candid Camera, or being Punked, since I am neither in the Los Angeles area nor a celebrity, I decide no, this is no joke. So, off I go, back to Advanced to pick up the paper copy of the prescription that they refused to give me in the first place. The woman at the desk just so happened to have prescription within arms reach, she commented that she had faxed it to the other Vet earlier, and had a confirmation. So she can't imagine why they didn't have it. 'Thanks', I said. Back at Vet office B. After standing in the cat line again. The woman who refused to call Advanced takes the hard-copy prescription, I mentioned that I'd also need syringes, 'Oh, I don't think we have any of those in stock' (Dammit.You've gotta be effing kidding me? Right?) ' Where do you think I could find some? Do I need a separate prescription?' Hold on, she said. I'll see if I can find a few in the back. Thankfully she returned with an open 10-pack with enough for three days. There are at least some very good doctors and Vet. Techs. employed at Advanced. I know this to be true. I just didn't have the pleasure of meeting any of them on this particular visit. read more

A very small Maltese with constipation was put in this veterinarian's care and the baby ultimately DIED because of his incompetence! Rude technicians asked us to come in at 10:30 am to see our 3 cats and 2 dogs for a routine annual checkup. They continually ignored and pushed us back further and further. All we needed was a single shot for one cat and checkups and they couldn't get that done. Sat there for an hour and a half before finally being fed up and left. Poor management and service. I recommended AVC...to strangers; I thought the world of them. My neighbor switched to Dr. Benson, because of me. She thought he was GREAT. About a year, or so, later she switched to another vet. When I asked her why, she said she overheard him laughing/making fun of a dog he was caring for, no sensativity. I came back with...maybe she heard something out of context, & I made many other excuses or him, but she was DONE with him. I told her she was making a mistake, & so what...if he's a good vet. I had a dog for over 17 years. I thought he took great care of him! When I had to put him to sleep, my heart was broken. Ever since then, everyone I know, who has lost a pet, always got a card...or SOMETHING, from their vet, Dr. B. knew how much "my baby" meant to me; he was like my son. I got nothing; no card, no phone call! Okay, not THAT big of a deal. After my baby passed away, and some time passed, I got 3 cats. Missing a dog, I ended up rescuing 2 dogs. That's 5 clients for him. When I took them in to get "fixed", & called to check on them, there was no answer. I called all through the night, no answer. I know he's no longer 24 hours, but he did "brag" about the fact that someone was there after closing, for all of the pets he was boarding. When someone finally answered the phone, when they opened, they simply said that the over night tech did not come in. Here's the problems I had with that: 1) What if one of my puppies had a bad reaction of some kind, or broke the incision open? 2) They were not housebroken yet, and they had no choice other than "make" in their cages. Did he think they wouldn't have to go to the bathroom in ELEVEN hours? Puppies "go" constantly! To this day, one of my 2 dogs still goes in the house! 3) Why didn't someone call me, to give me a choice; in case I wanted to bring them home? I don't care what time they found out the tech wasn't coming in...I should have gotten a phone call. I told the employees how I felt & I'm sure they told him, which is fine, but then he always had an excuse not to come to the phone or call me back. I was offered a free night for my pups, & I took it, because I thought it would be best with 2 dogs to "watch". I asked when Dr. B. would have some time & I would come in at that time to pick up my pups, but I was told he would be in surgery all day! When I came to pick up my pups guess who was NOT in surgery! All I said to him was (EXACTLTY) "Dr. Benson, I'm not happy". Well, he reacted in such a way that I was shocked! He swung his arms to point away, & said...almost exact words, to the best of my memory...Well there's about 6 or 7 vets up & down Reisterstown Road, see how many of them have someone stay overnight! My jaw dropped! I couldn't believe he would talk to me like that! I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, because I forgot to tell you...he spoke VERY racist about other people to me. I found that to be very surprising! I was hoping, when I got home, the phone would ring, & he would give me ANY excuse for the way he yelled at me. Afterall, I still thought he was a good vet. He could have said he didn't get sleep, he was in a bad mood, he had a bad day...ANYTHING! But, my phone never rang. I decided to report him to the state. I was going to drop it, until I read his "side" of the story; (the State sent it to me). All lies!! So, I had to write back & explain the REAL facts! He was fined for NOT having someone there that night, & maybe something else, I don't remember exactly. The State also sent me a record of past complaints...he actually tried to remove a tatoo on a human being with his vet equipment! Also, when I switched vets, one of my cats was x-rayed because the vet didn't like something, and found a STONE in her stomach! Like a kidney stone, but in her stomach! Why didn't Dr. Benson find that? Looking back, I wish I would have listened to my neighbor, when she over heard his childish behavior. No excuses for him, any more. I used Advanced Veterinary Complex for the last 5 years of my dog's life. My dog passed away at age 15. While there are some great things about this veterinary complex, like customer service, there are also some things that would deter me from ever using this facility again. For example, it's hard to schedule appointments with the same veterinarian consistently. It's sort of like a round robin... you get whoever is available unless you make a specific request. The big problem with this is that all veterinarians here don't seem to have the same proficient skill level when it comes to diagnosing problems and treating pets. I do believe, even though my dog lived a very long and for the most part a very healthy life, the congestive heart failure that she ultimately died from was not properly diagnosed. As she got older and I noticed oddities about her health, It seemed the proper tests were never conducted until it was too late. I'm not blaming this facility for the death of my dog. But I do think they could have done a much better job with conducting the proper tests that diagnose illnesses in senior dogs instead of just pacifying my suspicions and only concluding the issue was old age itself. read more

Totally dissatisfied with their groomer, Shelly...I take my (now) 6month old Shitzu-Maltese there for veterinarian services and after yesterday that's all she'll be going for. I like Dr. Benson & the administration staff but the GROOMER SUCKS! The first time I had my pup groomed everything was fine, my pup's hair grows long and since it was her first cut I felt the length was appropriate. The second time is where my dissatisfaction all started, the groomer charged me an extra $30, when I questioned as to why she stated that my pup was "heavily" matted and it took her an additional 3hrs to comb her out, don't believe it!!I wash her weekly & comb/brush damn near daily...I questioned her as to why she barely cut her if she was "heavily" matted, I would think she'd cut her down more but noooo my pup's hair was just as long as when I bought her in, she tried to play it off by giving me a free grooming brush and suggesting a comb I could buy, wtf is all I could think because I felt my brain telling my mouth "don't do it! don't say it". After long thought I decided third times the charm, right?! foolish me!! I asked that she be cut low/shorter, shave her face close & not to cut tail/ears, mind you after our second visit mishap she noted our records as to how much I preferred her to be cut/clipped/trimmed, so she clearly knew what was expected!!! Why in the hell did I pick up my pup yesterday and she had shaved all her freaking hair offDID YOU HEAR ME? YES I SAID SHAVED IT ALL OFF, NOT CUT NOT TRIMMED BUT SHAVED!!! My pup out here looking naked, I was livid!!! Not only did she f@?! up my pup's hair cut but she took all day doing it obviously, I dropped her off at 7am, she wasn't ready until 5pm. Oh and she charged an extra $25! FOR THE F@?! WHAT? A bad cut!!! She'll never touch my babe again. If & when we go for vet visits I want them to know that bih is not to touch mine at all!!! Personally I think she did this out of spite for questioning her pricing practice. Now I know why the person who referred me to Dr. Benson didn't refer their grooming services instead she referred me to a private groomer, who I will be using from now on. FYI: I didn't initially use the personal groomer because when I called her she said my pup needed all her shots and she was too young to have them all at the time...but now that's she's older and all her shots have been taken, we're good to go!!! If you love your animal don't take them to this lady!!! Hell for what I got & paid for I could have gone to a pet store and received better service at a reasonable price. read more

Dr. Benson is wonderful!! He is very good with our pets and explains things well to me. He diagnosed our previous dog's problem (she would yelp for no apparent reason--it was a back pain) and is excellent with our current dog and cat. read more

Dr. Benson saved the life of our newly rescued pup. He had round the clock diarrhea, weight loss(from 42 to 31 pounds in 4 weeks) and a ravenous appetite. Our first vet in Baltimore suspected pancreatic insufficiency and prescribed enzyme supplements and 2 1/2 cups of food a day. We heard Dr.Benson was one of two premier vets in the area. His second opinion: replace the dog food with Rx variety, feed 5 1/2 cups a day and stop the enzymes which should have worked immediately if enzyme insufficiency was the problem. Dr. Benson said surgery instead of enzymes was a more radical option, if insufficiency was the problem, BUT the dog would likely die from surgery due to weight loss and weakness. The next day our dog was fine. That was four years ago and our dog is now 54 pounds and healthy. We will always be grateful to Dr. Benson, a gifted and dedicated vet. Footnote: our dog sees Dr. Benson every 10 weeks for anal gland expressing. I could not be happier with Dr. Benson and have recommended him highly whenever I can. read more

He maybe too busy and immediate appointments can be difficult but he is worth the wait. Now, with my 3rd dog - Polly, I am willing to travel 45 minutes to see him. read more

Extremely rude staff. I called and was repeatedly placed on hold for 21 minutes. I finally called via cell to see if they had forgotten about me and it turns out, they did. When I began to explain why I had called I was immediately interrupted and placed on hold. This happened 2 more times before I was even able to explain why my pet needed an appointment. I have brought 2 other pets in on other occasions and only tolerated similar rude behavior because of the facilities operating hours. Its convenient to have a veterinary clinic open in the late evening hours however this latest and last experience has me looking for another veterinarian. read more

I don't even know where to start. My husband and I are big fans of small businesses and wanted to support our local small Vet clinic and what we got in return will unfortunately change that from here on out with this specific establishment. I went to drop my two almost 6 month old puppies off to get spayed and vaccinated and when I arrived I walked up to the counter and the interaction I received was a nice woman asking for my name and why I was here when I answered her she handed me a clipboard and asked me to fill it out. I went and sat with my two pups in the corner since there were other dogs there and they shortly took the dogs back that belonged with the owner that walked in right behind. There at that point was a dog waiting with us and their owner in the waiting room in which my two pups wanted to play with so I had my hands full trying to contain them and also fill out this paper work. So eventually I put the paper work aside being unfinished. When the woman came over to collect it I let her know I would have to fill it out when they went back because I simply could not successfully fill it out with them in my hands wanting to get the attention of the dog on the other side of the waiting area.I was told they would not be taken back till it was done. I resumed a little irritated at this point not understanding why I wasn't met with help or understanding of the silly but surely very common situation..Even though annoyed that at this place of business there was no courteous and professional offer to take my dogs back so I could properly look over and fill out the paper work nor the caring technician or receptionist to play with my dogs for a few minutes so I could do so. So looking passed that I went on to finally completing the documents they needed and on to the next phase of passing my babies off to them. I expected kennel techs to come out with energy and enthusiasm even just for the two minutes they were retrieving my pups from me. They didn't once make me feel like they cared to know my dogs and cared about their care they just took them and put them on the scale to the left and took them back with out even allowing the proper send off from mommy with this being our first time parting. I was debating before that point to just leave with them and take them else where, if it weren't for the fact that I truly believed they were fairly priced and they had to receive the spaying service within 4 days before there 6 month mark; I would have. So at this point I really felt guilty leaving them in their care so I called my mother for a second opinion who has worked in the field for 18 years at a prestigious hospital to discuss with her my experience just to learn I was right and that customer service- or the lack of- was not there. I then called them to ask if some of the items my mother had told me about prior such as Bordetella for the help of eliminating the risk of kennel cough was required and to get the price and the woman said it is required for any dogs to stay in their kennel and I thought well that should have been explained to me and someone should have been there to talk with us before hand and when I was doing my homework and pricing out the cost of the services we needed done that should have been disclosed. These are our first puppies and this was their first visit to any Veterinarian with us we were wanting to make sure they felt just as comfortable as us going into it. My experience with better (in my opinion) animal clinics/ hospitals was that of which you'd go in and when you requested a check up the owners would be present in the exam room to ask and discuss whatever questions and concerns they had... we did not get that opportunity. I dropped them off nothing was discussed with me and was expected to pick them up the next day and that was it. I could call at a certain time to check to see how the procedure went and that was all the instruction I received. I asked the receptionist if they would be crated next to each other and the answer I got was one of which I could have given myself " They could be, it depends on what it looks like back there and how many dogs we have" ... so in other words you won't get off your butt and take the time to be more efficient and check for me to ease my mind being that they are sisters and have never been separated... thanks for nothing. Needless to say by the time I made it home my husband and I both were a little afraid of what the total bill would look like seeing how nothing with our experience and answers were consistent. We called them and asked them for realistic estimate of our bill and they politely got back to us later that evening via voicemail telling us our total. Greatly appreciated- However, What we heard was shocking. We had done the calculations before hand of what they communicated to us and the total would be $402 (snap incl.) No bill was $640.90.NEVER AGAIN. How can a business with such poor service charge small fortune read more

BEWARE! If you take your pet in for any problems, get a second opinion right away! My 11 year old cat started with an unexplained weight loss around the first of this year. Went from 18 lbs. last year to 11 lbs. in Feb. We took him back three times after that, because we felt that something was wrong. During these visits, Dr. Simpson took two x-rays , did blood work, and tested a stool sample. Dr. Kelleher did an ultra sound on 3/2/17, and the last x-ray and blood work was done on 5/11/17. After each procedure, we were told that they couldn't understand the weight loss, that they didn't see any problem or cause, and to see a specialist. On 5/22/17, we took him to another facility. Almost immediately, the vet felt that there was some type of obstruction, possibly a cancerous tumor. The next day, they suggested surgery, but, due to the high cost, we returned to Advanced for Dr. Benson to operate. After operating on him on 5/24/17, we were told that our cat had a cancerous tumor, which also affected his lymph glands, and was not operable. Sadly, we had to have him euthanized. We are still trying to understand how, on 5/11/17, he was reported OK, and, eleven days later, was told that he had an inoperable, cancerous tumor, causing him to be euthanized. We will NEVER return to this facility if and when we get another cat. If we cannot rely on veterinarians to guide us on the proper care and quality of life for our pet, there is a problem there. If they would have determined this problem back in February, we would have immediately authorized surgery which may have possibly saved his life. My wife and I are devastated over this loss. read more

We took our dog to the practice for a check up. My dog is a service dog. Dr. Benson prescribed an increase in Gabapentin from 60 mg to 600 mg and added Lasix. After the visit, our dog began to be unable to walk and became very lethargic. He then began to have a severe case of diarrhea and could not move that evening. We continued to see an increase in diarrhea and vomiting the next day. We called the practice and they refused to let him come in on emergency or to look at his stool per management direction per Christine. I even brought in a sample of his stool to check and Christine refused to check it. She told me to throw it in the trash outside not in their office. I told her that my dog was almost lifeless. She told us that Dr. Benson would call us that night from 9 pm - 11 pm. I waited up all night and NO ONE CALLED. The next morning MY DOG DIED. We took him to another vet where they were unable to revive him. We were refused service and my dog suffered. I can never go to this practice again. My dog was dead within 48 hours after our visit to this practice. read more

Yesterday my girlfriend found a badly wounded kitten in the same shopping center as this vet. Couldn't walk, was dragging it's back legs and very scared. She went to them for help and was told they don't take strays and would not help unless she assumed all financial responsibility. Blatant lack of caring and compassion. Don't take your animals here. Turns out the kitten had a fractured pelvis and a broken leg. The vet down the street took him in and is treating him. Many years ago I took my dog there after he was hit by a car. They tried to keep him alive. After he died I thought about it and I realized the strange look he had in his eyes was blood from bleeding on the brain. I don't believe they ever should have tried to save him but I think they did it so they could charge me more money. He was 14 at the time. I was so distraught at the time it never even dawned on me. This is one of the most expensive vets in the area also. I wouldn't take my rabid raccoon there. If you love your animals, don't you either. Minus 1 star. read more

I dropped my healthy, lively dog off for three nights and when I picked him up, he had a terrible stomach infection. We have taken him back three times to see the doctor, who can't figure out what's wrong, and to date they won't take any responsibility for the charges to fix an illness they are responsible for!
