We started using deer park for our female lab due to a recommendation by a friend. The first several visits were basically uneventful even when we were gone for 30 days. Our last trip took us 10,00 miles away and our dog had developed a small mast cell tumor on her leg which seemed to be dormant. Unfortunately, while we were gone it expanded and opened up. The staff unsuccessfully tried to get in touch with us and took it upon themselves to take her to our vet and get her taken of. When we were able to make contact, we got a full report and they greatly eased our concerns, knowing that they had pro-actively taken steps to take care of our special girl. We would, without question, put this or any future pet in the care of Deer Park Kennels and even if 10,000 miles away be comfortble knowing that he/she was in capable hands. Our pups (Lab and Pug/Boston Terrier) had their first stay at Deer Park about a week ago. The process of reserving their spot was easy and quick, my correspondence with the employees via email and phone was professional and they had answers for all of my questions! We don't board our dogs often so I wanted to make sure they would be as comfy as possible. When we arrived the office staff was friendly and gentle with our pets, even our nervous girl who takes a few minutes to warm up to folks. After our four day trip the pups were tired but in good health, albeit a little smelly lol. They did not get kennel cough which I was very excited about! And I felt the pricing was reasonable for the care they received while there. We will certainly use Deer Park again when we travel and aren't able to take our babies along. read more

I have had the best experiences at Deer Park Kennels. I have so much anxiety leaving my dog, but the staff at Deer Park is so reassuring. They reply very quickly to the MANY emails I send checking up on my girl. Not only are the staff super responsive and friendly, they are also flexible. During one of my dog's recent stays, my flight ended up being delayed so long that I canceled my trip. I called and asked to pick up my dog early and it was no issue. We drive a long distance to board our beloved dog here because they are that good. The staff clearly love animals and our senior dog is always healthy and happy when we pick her up. I have to give this review because I want Deer Park Kennels to understand the power of the pen. So this is the story Once a month I get my labrador retriever groomed at this establishment. Correction I use to get her groomed. They would call the day before to let me know of the upcoming appointment. When they called to remind me of Parisa's appointment yesterday, I was told that the groomer, Terry had a Drs appointment and there was no rush in bring Parisa early. I normally drop Parisa off by 9 or so, depending on my work schedule. So after a break in my meetings I head over to the groomers which is about 15 minutes from my home. When I arrive I call the office because of COVID they have curb side drop off and pick up. When the lady comes out to meet me she tells me that the normal drop off is before 10 am. I arrive around 10:30ish. Now I am dropping off the dog later to accommodate the groomers appointment and I am told she took another dog in place of Parisa. This person explanation was rather rude and then she walks away. I turn and tell her to remove all of Parisa's scheduled appointments we will not be back. Now because I did not fully get my explanation out I call and I ask to speak to the manager, as I begin telling my story this heffer hangs up on me. I call back and apparently the manager or whomever answers the second time. She says that whomever told me to bring her later should have mentioned that I still needed to be there by 10. Ok fine but I am turned away when I was trying to accommodate their schedule?? Never again. Deer Park Kennel staff need to learn customer service. Well the short dumpy one that came out does. We will NEVER go there again. read more

Our dog enjoys her time here. She is well cared for and they have various levels of play and interaction. The last time we were there, our teen did drop off and set her up for a Deluxe Spa Week, which our goof of a hound just loved. We like that they check details like vaccines and are transparent about any risks. Great people make a solid business. Watch the hours as it's not continuously open. read more

Deer Park Kennels have been fabulous caring for my neurotic, aggressive Shepherd. They have been conscientious about handling my dog to keep his stress and fears to a minimum. I need to share an experience my niece just went through with Deer Park Kennels in Owings Mills, MD. I witnessed first hand her healthy, beautiful, dog Gus leave for this kennel and then seeing her unhealthy, listless, dog Gus returning from this kennel. It has broken my heart to see this poor neglected animal and seeing my niece's heart broken as well. Gus lost almost 11 pounds while staying at this kennel while his mom was on an extended vacation. Gus' coat is dull and his disposition very much changed from when I saw him last. He was such a fun, loving, happy puppy and now he is vomiting daily since he was starved at this kennel and now trying to get used to eating again. The kennel owners/staff not once said anything was wrong with Gus every single time my niece and her friends called to check on him. This could have been avoided if the owners/staff would have been honest and told his mom that he wasn't doing well at all so that friends that were on call or even me, her aunt, could have picked him up to care for him. I am disgusted that a supposedly reputable kennel neglected this beautiful dog. Do not leave your beloved pet with Deer Park Kennels in Owings Mills, MD. read more

I love DPK but more importantly, the dogs love DPK! They don't always love to be groomed (they have thick coats that are always skillfully groomed, which the dogs cannot appreciate!) but they love boarding there. My little Bella especially loves the freedom to run in and out because she is nosey and always wants to know what is going on. Cotton is 14 and DPK is the only place he has been boarded. The staff is always friendly and accommodating to me and the pups. It is family owned and run which also makes me feel good that it is not a chain and their prices are reasonable for all services. read more

First Impressions Review: I've been a little hesitant to leave my baby. O checked reviews and this facility gave me a good feeling . So.... several calls. Several questions. I drove by to check out the location. We arrive on the big day. An employee comes out to greet us. She goes over everything with us. She offers to take my sweet baby. She didn't look uncomfortable taking her out of the car. We complete the paper work and another staff member comes out to pick up the paper work. She gave us a quick report on how my baby did walking in and assures us that she is okay and happy. She also let us know it's okay to call and check in. So far so good !!! They always give me report on how the my dogs were and if there was any problems. Always willing to accommodate, if I need to pick my babies up early or later. I wish it was a higher star rating! I was very satisfied with the friendliness and service I received from all the staff I made contact with while boarding my 10 month old Staffy for the first time. I was told I was welcome to call to check on her and I did. She appeared to have adjusted well during the weekend and showed no signs of anxiety when I picked her up, which is something I was concerned about. I travel quite a bit, and the drive from Baltimore City to DPK is a rather painful 45 minute haul down Liberty Road --- but it's worth it. Compared to the many other kennels I've experienced, these are some things I really appreciate about Deer Park: -Huge indoor/outdoor runs - this is the primary reason I chose the kennel to begin with, and the primary reason I won't go anywhere else. If I'm paying $30 a day I really want my dog to have the flexibility to go outside when he wants. -When you drive up you see all the cute and happy dogs outside in their runs! Much happier vibe than when you drive up to a kennel where you only hear barking and never see any of the animals. -Super friendly and personable staff. They know my dog and I feel like they genuinely like and care about him. At this point maybe it's the familiarity, but I really do trust them with him. -They're very accommodating about any belongings you want to provide for your dog - bed, toys etc., They label them and you get them back at pick up! (I've had toys and even beds lost at other kennels) -Competitive prices. Their website says that they charge to give meds but the one time I needed that I don't think they charged me. A couple of areas for improvement: -The pick up and drop off hours are a little restrictive (8-12 and then 2-5) . That said, I've had to do drop off between noon and 2 before. I called to let them know and it was not a problem. You don't get charged for the day if you pick up before 10am which is nice, but I sometimes wish it was a little later (say, until noon) since the drive is so far. -Discounts are provided for multiple dogs in same run - it would be great if a discount was also provided for long term stays. I've boarded my dog for up to a month before - at that point it would be really nice to have a long-term discount. I've often wondered why kennels don't do an "every 10th night free" type system like restaurants do - would really help engender loyalty to a particular business. Bottom line - Deer Park is a great place to board your dog and the most important criteria in my book (competence/trustworthiness and quality of facility/space) are top notch here. read more

This was our first experience boarding our new puppy so we were nervous about the experience. We took a tour of Deer Park Kennels in advance and gained a lot of information about the kennel and the process. Our Prince was there for a week and my sister was able to visit with him for some play time while he was there. By all accounts, he seemed well adjusted. He has been home for a few days now and all is well. What gave me additional comfort was talking with the employee and hearing how most of the staff has been with the kennel for several years. I am very particular about where I take my dogs - they truly are the loves of my life (sorry hubby!) So needless to say, we did quite a bit of research before deciding to board my babies here. First off, the staff was really great about allowing us to tour the facility ahead of time. From the get go, you know the owners and staff take pride in what they do. The entire property is well maintained and the staff interactions with the animals is not only kind but genuine. Deer Park allows us to supply our own pet food for the dogs during their stay, plus works with us in giving daily medication to our one Pug who suffers from seizures. We've spoken to other places where they flat out refuse to take dogs with any history of medical ailments, even though ours has not had one 2 years because of the medicine. So I truly appreciate their flexibility. We've since boarded our dogs numerous times now - each time with them coming back to us as happy and healthy as they work when we dropped them off. They'll even give you a run down of their performance during their stay, if you're interested. I can honestly say we'll continue to bring our dogs here any time we can't take them with us. I also think it's worth noting that even with 100+ runs, they can and do get fully booked around key times of year. I think that says something about their reputation. read more

My dog has been coming here since he was less than a year old. He is now almost 12, and when we pull into the driveway he starts crying and can't wait to get out of the car. He runs to the door each and every time, and when he comes home, he sleeps for two days! We compassionately refer to Deer Park Kennels as "camp" for our little buddy. We go on vacation, and he goes to camp. He, as well as us, love that our dog is so happy when he is left behind. I should also mention that despite moving an hour away, we will only board him here. We drive that hour just to make sure he has the best when he is away from home. It doesn't hurt that you get such great service for such a good price, either. I have been using Deer Park Kennels for a number of years and have always been pleased with them. Recently I boarded my 14 year old Aussie and my kitty with them. The Aussie had an issue with a sore on his back leg and problems walking. They were persistent in trying to reach me (cell phone reception problems) and they sent me pictures of the wound and when I decided he should see his vet, they contacted the vet and schedule to take him there that day. They even exercised him more to help him walk better. Not only is this place beautifully maintained, the staff are professional animal loving individuals. It is wonderful having a place to leave your pets, that you know they will get the best treatment possible. read more

I am from Baltimore but recently moved to Florida. I would travel quite a bit and Deer Park Kennels would take such great care of my dog. I was very pleased with my pups stay here. My dog gets easily overloaded and takes a little bit to warm up since she's so shy. I was allowed to bring her home crate which she likes to hide in when she's scared. The team was very warming when I arrived, helped me get everything together and assured me that if my pup had trouble eating bc of being on overload, then they bring her to the office to eat where it is quieter. I decided to get the bundle pack which included a walk, a cuddle, a play session and a frozen treat. She thoroughly enjoyed each. When I arrived to pick her up, she was being pampered by the front staff after drying her off from her walk (it was raining badly outside). They helped me load her kennel back in my car and she was on her way home exhausted from her adventure. Though I'm a very nervous dog owner when it comes to kenneling my pup, I feel very comfortable that I found a place for her to stay if I go out of town. read more

If you would have asked me two years ago to rate Deer Park as a groomer, I would have given them four stars. However, after my experience over the past year, the grooming service has faltered. Deer Park does not groom older dogs well. Strike one was when one of the groomers cut my dog's leg, and did not say anything when my daughter picked him up. Strike two was when a different groomer hit my dog's eye with the scissors and, once again, did not tell us. Finally, on Saturday, our dog received a horrible haircut and could barely walk when my husband went to pick him up. Then, they tried to tell him that our dog had trouble walking when he came in, which was untrue. Three strikes, you're out. CYA Deer Park, CYA! read more

I have been kenneling and grooming my dogs here for 15 years and I wouldn't dare go anyplace else. Belinda is a spectacular groomer and the staff here are friendly and compassionate. Both of my dogs contracted kennel cough after their stay at this kennel. My dogs started coughing today, 5 days after they were picked up. I called to find out if they had any confirmed cases of kennel cough or the flu and the lady who answered said yes there were many dogs who have a cough and one vet had confirmed it was kennel cough and not the flu. No call or communication to the owners to let their customers know they had an outbreak. Beware!! I will never board my pets here again! I know incidents such as this can happen and I wasn't even asking for reimbursement for their upcoming treatment (you sign that all away when you drop them off, it would have been nice though), but I just HAD to call them out on this policy. A phone call, text, or email for everyone affected within a week of the first reported case should be required. Who knows how many people took their dogs out after they were picked up when they could have responsibly kept them isolated? read more

Was a nervous mommy leaving my dog while the family went on vacation. When we picked her up one week later all my fears were put to rest. She came home in a good state of mind. She wasn't all spazzed out like she had been on previous occasions at different kennels. The facility itself was clean and spacious, the staff was very courteous, checking in and out was an easy process. Will definitely use Deer Park Kennels in the future.
