For just about all of my adult life I have been overweight or obese. Frequently, I felt very judged by physicians based on my weight. From the second I walked into Dr. Schmidt's office, it was like a breath of fresh air. I finally felt understood, accepted and my struggles acknowledged. Although I am a medical professional, he still explained everything in easy to understand terms. Dr. Schmidt is very approachable, calming and thorough in all that he does. I instantly felt that I would be in excellent hands as I sought surgical intervention to manage my obesity. The process was thoroughly explained, which assisted with putting me at ease. As a bonus, his surgical coordinator, Silvija, was amazing, encouraging and was there with me every step of the way to ensure I was appropriately prepared for my surgical procedure. The day of surgery went smoothly, Dr. Schmidt and the hospital staff were amazing and very accommodating. Dr. Schmidt was great at updating my husband after the procedure and further explained things to me the day after. The hospital stay was quick and uneventful thanks to the staff at Hackensack. Being only a week post-op, I feel great and I can't thank Dr. Schmidt and his staff enough for their skill, kindness and attentiveness. I had the gastric bypass and hernia repair with Dr Schmidt in December. He heads a great bedside manner and took the time to explain the procedure and recovery and was always patient with all of my questions. My insurance was being very difficult and Silvija was awesome! I should have read the reviews, my bad. They speak volumes. Dr. Ewing came referred from a friend who had stomach sleeve surgery. I went in sight- unseen for a consultation with my Valley/Aetna insurance. The consult took 10 minutes with Dr. Ewing who seemed knowledgable, but it also seemed like he had given the pitch 20x earlier that day. His conclusion was that I would be a good candidate for surgery.... I went to the "scheduling desk" and robot-acting person put about 25 future appointments for nutrition, sleep apnea, blood work, and a few other things onto my calendar. With $50 copays for each visit. All this was under the guise of "getting approved by insurance". The consult (aka sales pitch) cost me $500 for which i was later billed. I decided not to go ahead with the surgery. Their phones don't transfer to correct extensions, they don't return calls, they don't have access to records from one person to the next, and their demeanor is rude, rushed, and uninformed. In my 55 years, this was the worst experience I've had with any medical practice I've ever dealt with. I encourage you to do your research before ever calling this office. read more

Really disappointed in the office staff and how rude they have been to me. 16 years ago, I had surgery. Over the years, I've seen Dr. Trivedi numerous times. I adore him as a doctor. Several times, I've had the pleasure of meeting Dr Schmidt and Dr Ewing. They are all amazing. I highly recommend them. The office staff has changed and not for the better, maybe it's too much growth and too many offices. There was a time when you would come into that office and be greeted with the kindest smiles, everyone super helpful and patient. I recently scheduled an appointment, which was two months later. That's a long time to wait. All I wanted was a quick question/answer session as I'm considering a revision. When I scheduled the appointment in early summer, I didn't realize my 11 year old son would have a half day at school. I arrived a half hour early for my appointment to fill out paperwork and save time. I then proceeded to wait an additional 45 minutes and I was still in the waiting room. I hadn't even gotten to the exam room. I politely explained I needed to leave to get my son. I was told the person ahead of me is running later than expected bc they 'had a lot of questions' (ok whatever, I know most doctors feel it's their right to keep patients waiting but I value my time, too) There comes a point where enough is enough. Perhaps I was stressed bc I knew I had to leave. The gentleman running the flow of the patients told me I shouldn't leave but he could have the dr call me for a tele-meeting. Again, I explained I had to leave and I would wait for the tele-meeting. It's been 4 days so I assume they aren't calling. I called the office and explained what happened and asked if they could get me in ASAP, maybe keep me on a cancellation list or something. I didn't know I needed to block out half my day for the appointment so that was on me. I hoped they would be accommodating since I was there. I came early and I waited a substantial amount of time. They told me I could come back in late November of this year. Really? I've been waiting since July and this is the best you can do? I was a customer for a long time. Not only was the woman rude, she seemed like she couldn't wait to get me off the phone. No apologies, no regrets, she was straight up rude. At this point, I will try another office. It is what it is. The doctors may be amazing but if this is what you have to deal with, it's not worth it. They are the face of the organization and I'm sure I'm not the only person they treated so rudely. They promise you at the seminar they will be there for you every step of the way, I didn't really get that feeling via this experience. read more

Dr. Talishinskiy ("Dr. T") of Advanced Laparoscopic Associates recently performed a colon cancer operation on my Mother which involved removing a large section of her colon. Dr. T is beyond excellent. He was patient and caring throughout our experience, from our first meeting to the follow-up appointment. He carefully explained the surgery and patiently answered all our questions. His "bedside manner" and demeanor is confident, intelligent and extremely reassuring while being honest with the risks of the procedure. On the day of the surgery, in the pre-op room, Dr. T and his team was again just perfect, explaining everything and answering every question kindly and thoughtfully. Most important, the surgery went perfectly, "Plan A" as Dr. T told me afterwards in the family waiting area. Dr. T came out after the surgery and explained how it went calmly and confidently which was just the reassurance I needed. The staff at Advanced Laparoscopic is excellent. They took care of all the details of the preparation and led us through the necessary pre-admissions testing and physician letters we would need. They are really on-top of things and operate as a well-oiled machine so to speak, which is very important when a patient is scared and new to the whole system. I highly recommend Dr. T and the staff at Advanced. He is an excellent surgeon and a thoughtful, caring physician. I had been a patient for 10 years... recently i went in for an adjustment... i needed fluid removed ... i ask the dr please only take half out ... since once before when i did my body had a reation and stsrted to swell up lucky the lovely Nadia caught it and fix it b4 it got bad... unfortunately shes out on maternity leave and Dt.trivedi does it.... well within 24 hours my body swelled up gsined 25 lbs of fluid and have been in hospital twice... his response when i went to his office ....... well i think u should find another Dr. Office to go to... im disgusted in how i was treated ... i find Dr. TRIVEDI very unprofessional and i will tell anyone thats thinking about get the lap band NOT TO GO TO THIS DR OR HIS PRACTICE.... Although I did have a successful surgery with Dr Ewing I will let everyone know that my insurance overpaid by $5000 the surgery for a gastric sleeve is $25,000 my insurance paid $30,000 They sent me a bill for $3709.70 Saying that this is my deductible but I have no deductible I have zero deductible because I have been at my limit I will be reporting this bill to my insurance to be investigated for medical insurance fraud read more

I'll give them 2 stars because the Dr's and nurse practitioner are very good. . . After that the practice is terrible. The nutritionists are useless, all they know how to say is "follow" what's on the sheet", and roll their eyes.Plus, I've seen rodents with better personalities. The case managers(I had 2), could barely speak English and quite frankly were lazy and stupid. They kept telling me to call the insurance company for things and the people at the insurance company said " the patient shouldn't be doing this, the Dr's office should". Don't expect a call back from a case manager, they'll tell you "we're busy". Who isn't?? The people at reception are hot and cold.if I had it to do over again I'd go to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. It's a very poorly run practice, I saw my Dr just once after surgery, but as I said the nurse practitioner is excellent. read more

If you have Aetna Insurance , you see a physician Assistant. If you see a "DR" your insurance will not cover the visit.They do not use an X-ray machine when doing the lap band fill . They ask you guestions. They should be checking for a slipped ban. They aggressively fill so you have to go back to remove some fluid because you are throwing up and can tolerate food. also reflux developes and stomach issues and they do nothing for you for these conditions . Make sure you also see your primary physicians if other ailments develope. Reflux not taken care of can result in esophageal cancer. read more

I have never had any surgery thus far and all of a sudden I needed to have my hernia repaired. I researched many surgeons on Health Grades and found Dr. Sebastian Eid. I met him during our consultation and he was very easy to talk to, he was thorough and professional. The day of my surgery he took the time to speak with me again to make sure I felt at ease and to discuss any of my other concerns. The doctor was good but the office personnel is terrible. I had an MRI 4 weeks ago and they have never called to give me the results. It took weeks and weeks for them to set up the MRI and only after I got the benefits manager at my job to hold their feet to the fire. I call them frequently and leave a message, because they never let you talk to anyone--EVER. All you get is a voice mail. And if you are lucky enough to get a response, all you get are excuses. read more
