Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. My pregnancy was especially precious to me because it was an IVF pregnancy, and I had previously experienced a miscarriage. Naturally, I had concerns and questions, and I wanted to feel confident that both my babies and I were receiving the best possible care. After several ultrasounds, I learned that I had placenta previa. However, this was never discussed with me at Dr. Austin's office. The only reason I became aware of it was because the high risk specialist I was seeing informed me. Later, I learned that the condition had changed to vasa previa, a serious complication that can put both the mother and babies at significant risk. My high risk specialist instructed me to limit my activity, follow bed rest recommendations, and avoid lifting anything heavy. When I specifically asked Dr. Austin about limiting my activities because of the vasa previa, she told me that I did not need to make any changes to my activity level and that I could continue carrying my 20 pound nephew that I babysat at the time without any problems. This was extremely concerning to me because it contradicted the precautions my high risk specialist had recommended. When I brought up my concerns with Dr. Austin and asked why the placenta previa had never been discussed with me earlier, I felt that she became defensive rather than addressing my concerns with compassion and understanding. I came to my appointments with a list of questions, but I consistently received brief answers that left me feeling dismissed. I did not feel heard, supported, or genuinely cared for. Instead, I felt as though my concerns were being brushed aside and my feelings invalidated. At around 24 weeks, I decided to find another provider, and I could not be happier with that decision. My new doctor took my pregnancy and its complications seriously. At 28 weeks, I was admitted to the hospital for closer monitoring because my new doctor felt it was the safest decision for me and my babies in case an emergency occurred. Looking back, I am incredibly grateful that my doctor made that decision. At 33 weeks, I began bleeding and had to undergo an emergency C-section. Having been admitted for monitoring, I was already in the hospital when this happened. I am so thankful I made the decision to switch providers. My new doctor made me feel heard, respected, and cared for as a person rather than just another patient. The difference in how I was treated was significant, and I will always be grateful for the care, knowledge, and reassurance I received. Today, my twin boys are happy, healthy 10 month olds, and I thank God every day that we made it through everything. I am sharing my experience because choosing an OBGYN is an incredibly important decision, especially during a high risk pregnancy. As someone who went through IVF, experienced a previous miscarriage, and faced serious pregnancy complications, I needed a provider who would take my concerns seriously, communicate important information clearly, and help me feel safe and supported. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Dr. Austin. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Dr. Melissa Austin or this office to anyone seeking compassionate, attentive care, particularly someone navigating a high risk pregnancy. I waited six weeks just to get an appointment, another week to have the ultrasound, and it has now been more than three weeks since the ultrasound was completed. During that entire time, I have received zero proactive communication from this office. Not one phone call. Not one portal message. Not one update. Every single contact has been initiated by me. Every week I call, I get the same canned response: "The doctor hasn't reviewed your ultrasound yet." Apparently, an ultrasound ordered because of severe pain and abnormal bleeding can simply sit for weeks while the patient is left to suffer. I was told the office manager would call me. That never happened. Just another empty promise from a practice that seems completely incapable of following through on even the most basic aspects of patient care. Meanwhile, I am living with horrific daily abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, and irregular menstrual cycles. Their solution while they let my ultrasound collect dust? A muscle relaxer. Not an answer. Not a diagnosis. Not an expedited review. Just a muscle relaxer that does absolutely nothing to address the reason I'm in pain. To make matters worse, I developed a swollen lump near my lymph node while waiting for someone to review my ultrasound. When I brought it to their attention, I was essentially told it wasn't their problem because it wasn't on my breast and that I should see my primary care physician instead. My primary care physician can't move forward because we are still waiting on the very ultrasound results this office refuses to review. So here I am--stuck in medical limbo because the one office responsible for my care can't be bothered to do theirs. I have a documented family history of cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers. Whether my ultrasound ultimately shows something serious or not is almost beside the point. No patient should spend weeks wondering if they have cancer while repeatedly begging a medical office to review a test that has already been completed. The emotional toll of this experience has been overwhelming. I am not just frustrated--I am scared. Every day that passes without answers is another day spent wondering whether something serious is being missed while this office does absolutely nothing. This isn't simply poor customer service. This is a complete breakdown in communication, accountability, and basic patient care. A medical practice should never leave patients chasing their own results, making repeated phone calls that go nowhere, receiving broken promises from management, and suffering without a plan while everyone shrugs and says, "The doctor hasn't reviewed it." If this is how they treat a patient with severe symptoms who is actively calling for help, I can't imagine how many other people have been left waiting and wondering. When we were finally seen, the doctor spent less than 5 minutes with us, asked almost no meaningful questions, and never performed or scheduled an anatomy ultrasound despite my wife being over 20 weeks pregnant. We left feeling rushed, dismissed, and genuinely concerned about the quality of care. The office staff and management only made things worse. They were consistently rude, disorganized, and nearly impossible to reach. Calls were rarely answered, messages weren't returned, and we spent months trying to resolve a billing issue. We paid around $1,000 out of pocket because our insurance didn't cover the visit. After deciding to leave the practice due to the poor care, we were promised a $650 refund. Instead, we only received about half of that after months of calling multiple times a week and even making trips to the office in person. Every time we managed to reach someone, we were told, "You'll get your money back in about a week." That never happened. The billing situation was unbelievably unprofessional. After repeatedly asking to speak with the billing department and getting nowhere, one of the front desk employees admitted there wasn't even a billing department anymore because the two people who handled billing were no longer with the practice. Yet when I went into the office, they still acted as if someone from billing was available, saying things like, "Let me get someone from billing to help you." He is a great, thorough physician with great bedside manner. He made sure I got all of the prenatal care I needed with an extensive family history of cardiac issues, and he made me feel safe and secure the entire time while being pregnant during a pandemic. Although it wasn't ideal that visitors were extremely limited due to COVID, they followed the CDC guidelines, and as a pregnant woman whose health is more vulnerable, I could appreciate the extra safety precautions the office took. It was nice to meet the other physicians in the practice (who were just as kind!) prior to delivery. The office also has the convenience of a lab on site, so no need to travel to an outside clinic to get blood work done. It's a beautiful, clean office and I've never felt like I was not taken care of there. During my delivery, Dr. Culbertson was calm and collected the entire time, and patiently explained all my options as my baby wasn't dropping. We went with a cesarean section and although this wasn't the original plan, he gave me many options and totally made me feel comfortable with each and every one of them. I chose to go forth with the cesarean, and I was definitely nervous, but he kept me at ease the entire time and delivered my baby safely. I am soooo beyond thankful to Dr. Culbertson and will continue to see him and I will refer him until I'm blue in the face. I just want to note--it means something when MANY nurses go to the same practitioner. To know and trust someone, and give him a referral is a big deal. And I know many nurses across the entire hospital in many different units who use him as their primary OB/GYN. He's wonderful!!!!

I am a veteran and receive maternity care through the VA. Their office spoke directly with my VA maternity care coordinator, yet I still had problems with my insurance at almost every visit. Instead of trying to help or find a solution, the attitude I got was basically, "Sorry, nothing we can do." That is unacceptable, especially when dealing with a pregnant patient in a vulnerable position. Toward the end of my pregnancy, I actually started canceling appointments because going into that office caused me more stress than reassurance. There were days I left in tears. The front desk staff showed no empathy, no professionalism, and no willingness to do anything beyond the bare minimum. As for Dr. Bruce, I did not have major issues with him personally, but I did feel dismissed at times. I understand insurance and front desk problems are not directly his job, but they are happening in his office, under his name. When I brought up issues, I did not feel like anyone cared enough to address them. I also had extremely severe varicose veins during pregnancy. I experienced a lot of anxiety waiting for the baby and having no backup plan. Three days later, the hospital called me and asked me to come in within 40 minutes because apparently, Dr. Brotsky had scheduled an induction for me, but no one had informed me. We rushed to the hospital. Dr. Brotsky returned for the birth even though I had been told she was gone for a week. After practicing pushing with her a few times, she left me with the nurse. I had an epidural so I was not feeling contractions and the monitor was not working and not reading them. I was pushing but not making progress. When I asked Dr. Brotsky to come back, she responded with, "How can I help you?" when I was so vulnerable and needed guidance and support. Once she arrived, my baby was born in 20 minutes. So she could have helped by simply doing her job!!! I am grateful that both my baby and I are healthy, but I couldn't have the birth I had envisioned because of poor communication and planning. I don't recommend Dr. Brotsky. While she seems to care, it feels insincere, and in reality, she does not seem to prioritize her patients' needs.

It took over a year for them to bill my first appointment with them correctly?! I had an annual appointment with them on 05.27, showed up 30 minutes early just so I could make sure there weren't any issues with my insurance. I arrived at 1:15 and my appointment was scheduled for 1:45pm. I wasn't called up to the front until 2:15pm when they informed me that they needed my member id which was plainly and legibly listed on the paperwork they gave me. The excuse the platinum blond gave me is she's been very busy and doing everything... I requested my insurance card and ID 3x and she was so absent minded that she thought she gave it to me already. I ended up leaving and rescheduling. Fast forward to my appointment now, I show up 20 minutes early. They said they have my paperwork from last time yet when they confirm my insurance verbally it's not even the right insurance ‍ We will see how this goes and hopefully I'm not waiting another hour to be told they don't know what they are doing. ***update 30 minutes have passed and they didn't start calling my insurance until 10 minutes ago.
