About a year ago I decided to get an implantable estrogen HRT pellet from Arcadia Well Woman. I did…read morea hormone panel and they told me my testosterone was low so they recommended I add some testosterone. I agreed, but the testosterone had an adverse affect on my and I spent the next three months irritable, aggressive, and full of uncontrollable anger. It affected my relationships. I almost lost my husband because of my mood shifts and irrational anger. I lost my self esteem, I grew body hair all over and I hated myself. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't think rationally. It was like a monster had taken control of my body and wouldn't let go. I decided I would never make the mistake of adding T to my hormones again. Last month I decided I wanted to try the pellet again, minus the testosterone. I went in for a checkup, and thoroughly explained what had happened last time and that while I wanted an estrogen pellet, I did not want testosterone again. The doctor agreed, she said "That was way too much, we won't do that again." We scheduled the procedure for late May. The procedure took place last thursday, and when it was over I said "I'm glad I won't have to deal with that testosterone anymore." and the doctor responded "What do you mean, we put testosterone in this pellet too." I told them to take the pellet out immediately, that we had had a thorough conversation about this and I made it clear that under no circumstances did I want testosterone. She said she didn't remember the conversation. I told her it's explicitly her job to remember the conversation. She told me there's nothing in the records about it. I told her it's explicitly her job to keep those records. The pellet had already crumbled in my body at this point and she informed me that she was unable to remove it. She gave me supplemental estrogen and prescribed spirolactone, but neither has proven effective in keeping this aggression in check. I am now faced with the prospect of another three months of artificial irritability, anger, and rage, and it is directly the fault of Arcadia Well Woman. It was malpractice, and it was assault. I wish I had the capacity to sue them. I wish I had the grace to let it go. But thanks to their actions, I have neither. Under no circumstances would I ever recommend someone go to this doctor.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this practice, particularly for patients with a history of sexual trauma. At both visits, the front desk (Gaylen) experience was disappointing. I was not greeted warmly, communication felt abrupt, and I was repeatedly asked to complete paperwork electronically without much explanation or assistance. During my first appointment, there were unexpected issues verifying my insurance. I have used the same insurance with multiple specialists and providers without difficulty. The situation delayed my appointment by approximately 25 minutes, and I was asked to contact other medical offices myself to obtain information that I believed should have been accessible through standard verification procedures. My second visit was significantly more distressing. I had previously discussed with my gynecologist that providing a urine sample was a trigger for me due to past trauma. Despite this, I was informed immediately before my procedure that a pregnancy test would be required and that the appointment could not proceed without additional testing. This requirement had not been communicated to me beforehand. After speaking with the office manager and explaining my concerns, she was apologetic and ultimately confirmed that, because I already had an IUD in place, the procedure could move forward. I appreciated her willingness to reconsider the situation, but I was disappointed that my chart notes did not appear to have been reviewed before the issue escalated. I want to acknowledge the providers I worked with. Rachel was compassionate, validating, and made me feel heard during my initial visit. Ashley was also kind and professional during a very difficult procedure. Due to a combination of pain, anxiety, and emotional distress, the IUD insertion was ultimately unsuccessful. Ashley sought assistance from another provider and offered pain management options, but after approximately 45 minutes, I decided to stop the procedure because I was overwhelmed and in too much discomfort. My concerns are primarily with the administrative processes and lack of trauma-informed communication. Patients should be informed of testing requirements before arriving for procedures, and documented triggers and accommodations should be reviewed and respected. While I had positive experiences with the medical providers themselves, my overall experience with the office left me feeling unsupported and emotionally distressed.

I didn't wait very long. From there, I sat with the doctor's assistant, also named Emily. She was very thorough and efficient at her job. She also listened to my concern about taking blood pressure before and after my visit as a personal preference. I appreciated her for this. Dr. Schlecht herself was a very friendly doctor and she also listened to me as well about my needs and she also provided patient education where I might've had this information about mammograms versus MRIs and what they pick up. I appreciate her patience and her kind bedside manner. When I was done, I met Gail who is the in-house phlebotomist representing Sonora Quest and she was very kind had such a great personality and she made my visit very fun. Enjoyable. You can tell she's a caring and compassionate woman and they're lucky to have her in the office as well. Finally, when it was time to check out, I was again impressed with Emily, the receptionist for giving me preparation; a slip of paper explaining that they even have in-house ultrasound and that a woman named Jill causes insurance the Monday or Tuesday before hand to verify coverage and to get pre-authorization and I just think that this practice has their stuff together. I'm very impressed by that as well. Sara A.

I was a patient of North Scottsdale Women's Care for approximately six years, from 2020 until my…read morerecent pregnancy, and unfortunately my experiences became so consistently unprofessional that I ultimately transferred my care elsewhere. My first concerning experience occurred during my very first annual exam. Rather than taking me to a private room to discuss my medical history, a staff member asked me highly personal questions in a public area of the office where other patients and staff could hear. These questions included details about my menstrual cycle, sexual activity, and contraception. When I expressed discomfort and attempted to answer quietly, I was told, "We're almost done," and the questioning continued. As a new patient, this immediately raised concerns about privacy and professionalism. The following year, I was asked whether I would consent to a student being present during my Pap smear. I explicitly declined. Despite my refusal, the student entered the room and remained present during my Pap smear. As a patient, I was shocked that my clearly stated wishes regarding such a private and vulnerable examination were disregarded. My most frustrating experiences occurred after I became pregnant in late 2025. I had my annual scheduled for December, I informed the office beforehand that I had recently received a positive pregnancy test. During the visit, I mentioned some light spotting and asked whether it was something I should be concerned about as a first-time mother. I was told that any bleeding during pregnancy was cause for concern and that I needed an ultrasound immediately. No discussion was provided regarding common causes of early pregnancy spotting such an implantation or a subchorionic hematoma. The conversation left me frightened and anxious. I was later told by my new/current OB/GYN that light spotting in early pregnancy can often occur for benign reasons, she was surprised that this had not been discussed with me. The same day of my December annual, after completing my exam and bloodwork, I was almost home when I received a phone call from the office. I was informed that a staff member had accidentally discarded my urine sample. While on the phone, I listened as employees argued with one another about what had happened. I was then instructed to turn around and drive back to provide another sample despite already being nearly home. It was incredibly unprofessional and frustrating. Shortly thereafter, I contacted the office for nausea medication during my first trimester. The prescription was called in, but when my husband arrived at the pharmacy, we were informed that insurance had denied coverage because required documentation had not been submitted. Because I was extremely sick and we were leaving for a holiday road trip, we paid approximately $140 out of pocket. After speaking with our insurance company, we learned that no supporting paperwork had been submitted by the office. Although we were told the issue would be corrected, it never was. The most significant issue involved bloodwork ordered during my December pregnancy confirmation visit. In February, we received a bill from Sonora Quest for approximately $1,250 showing that our insurance had denied coverage. When we contacted our insurance company, we were informed that the necessary documentation and prior authorization paperwork had not been submitted correctly. The authorization paperwork was not even dated until January, despite the testing having been ordered and performed in December. When I contacted North Scottsdale Women's Care, I was repeatedly told that the issue was Sonora Quest's responsibility. My insurance company stated otherwise. This led to months of back-and-forth phone calls between myself, the insurance company, and the office. The issue was not corrected until April, and we did not receive the updated insurance processing until June. The amount of time, stress, and effort required to resolve a problem that should never have occurred was unacceptable. To make matters worse, the office has continued sending me bills for approximately $34 related to that December visit while being unable to clearly explain what the charge is for. My annual exam was covered by insurance, and the bloodwork was billed separately through Sonora Quest. Despite my repeated attempts to obtain clarification, I have received collection threats over a charge that nobody has been able to adequately explain. Any one of these experiences might have been dismissed as an isolated mistake. What ultimately led me to leave the practice was the pattern. Over six years, I experienced repeated issues involving patient privacy, consent, communication, office professionalism, insurance paperwork, billing, and follow-through. By the time I became pregnant with my first child, I no longer felt confident that my concerns would be handled appropriately, which is why I transferred my care elsewhere.
