Yelp to the rescue again! On our a trip from California to New Mexico, we heard a recurring noise…read morethat seemed to be coming from one of the rear tires. We stopped at Sam's Club and it turns out that our wheels were out of balance so they fixed that. However, when we left, the noise was even louder. I looked on Yelp for a local Auto Mechanic. I found Auto Rehab which had a 4.9-star rating with 94 reviews. They saved the day for us! Right off the bat, from our description they thought it was likely a bad wheel bearing. We left our car with them at about 1pm and walked across the street to a cute little coffee house. We got a call in less than an hour to confirm the problem and get the price. We had already started looking for hotels since we didn't think there would be any way our car would be ready the same day. They did, however, say they'd do their best, which we appreciated! At about 3pm, we walked back to the shop. Our car was out for a test drive. It was fixed!! We got on our way and would make it back for a cousin's 80th birthday dinner the next day! Added bonus: The owner is Derek and the other employee who helped us was Troy. They were both super nice. We thought the price was fair. And Derek provides an additional warranty beyond the normal 12k miles. He told us the repair is guaranteed for 2 years. He said he buys the extra warranty because a lot of his customers are passing through town and live in other states. All we have to do is call him if we have a problem within two years and he'll give us a number of a local mechanic that will honor the warranty. How cool is that?! We were also impressed when Troy brought out the damaged part to show us without us even asking. Lastly, they have a very comfortable waiting room with tables and a sofa. I hope we don't have future car trouble near Flagstaff, but if we do, we would absolutely go back to this shop.

I called Randy's about 4:30 and they set me up for 8 the next morning. They got right on it and were finished by early afternoon. Great service, friendly place, and very fair pricing. I highly recommend Randy's if you need service in Flagstaff.

I want to share the experiences I have been having with Randy's Downtown Garage. I brought my car…read morein because my fuel door wouldn't open. Randy's said the fuel door and spring mechanism would need to be ordered and they charged me $546 to fix the door. I trusted them (my error for sure) and didn't research the estimate they gave and had them do the work. I later began to look into the costs and found that the price for a fuel door for my car was at the most $112, while Randy's charged me $245. Furthermore I learned when I dropped by the dealership that it wasn't necessary to replace the fuel door to fix the clip and spring that were the problem. In fact, Randy's charged me for those parts separately as well, at a rate more than double what the dealership cost. The dealership offered an estimate of $201 to repair the fuel door, a full $345 more than Randy's charged. I wrote a civil letter to Randy's and their owner, Harry Curtin, asking for a refund of the difference between what they charged and the more customary charge of $201. Two months later I have (of course) not heard nor received anything. I would strongly advise anyone to be very cautious with Randy's Downtown Garage. Certainly don't accept any estimate from them (as I did) as reasonable. I have not found them to be an honest business.

Valvoline…read moregave me a list of maintenance items my car needed, which scared me because I needed to be able to drive down the mountain to Phoenix tomorrow. I found TAG because of their great reviews. Even though they were busy and about to go to lunch, they very kindly inspected the items I was most concerned about, the serpentine belt and the brakes. They showed me both were in good shape. I offered to pay for the inspection, but they very kindly waived the fee. I am in flagstaff often and will definitely use TAG for anything my car needs when I'm here. Very trustworthy and kind guys, and a business you can trust :) Thank you again!

I think they fixed my trucks issue... unfortunately I left the shop and found 2 new issues within 10 miles of headed home. I just woke up and tried my remote start not working? Basically everything they touched is worrying me. This is my daily driver I put probably 90 miles a day on this thing. At the end of the day I should have done my research and walked away as soon as I stepped foot into this place. Not mad at the shop I should take my truck back in a demand they fix the new issues but this would be the third time now and I feel like I will just leave with some slapped on temporary fix again. Long story short don't be like me DO YOUR RESEARCH!

I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before having any work done here…read more My son lives in Flagstaff and his car broke down, dumping fluid all over the street. We had it towed to University Auto Repair, where we were told the radiator needed to be replaced and the fluids refilled. That immediately raised a red flag because the radiator had been replaced less than a month earlier. Rather than authorize the repair, I decided to have the car towed all the way back to Phoenix to the shop that had just installed the new radiator. Sure enough, there was nothing wrong with the radiator. It was simply a hose. My shop in Phoenix fixed the problem and didn't even charge us. Afterward, I read through several other poor reviews about University Auto Repair, and I'm extremely glad I trusted my instincts and had the car towed elsewhere. I can only draw one of two conclusions from our experience: either their mechanics completely misdiagnosed a relatively simple problem, or they were recommending an expensive repair that the car did not need. Either way, that is extremely concerning. We paid to tow the vehicle roughly 140 miles back to Phoenix rather than trust their diagnosis, and it turned out to be the right decision. My advice: If you're told you need a major or expensive repair here, get a second opinion before authorizing anything.
