When your car breaks down on vacation, you just want someone who knows what they're doing to take charge and get you back on the road. For us, Tino was that person. Our BMW broke down after 5pm on a Thursday, with a long drive home scheduled the next day. It seemed likely we'd be stuck all weekend waiting on a part. Instead, by Friday morning Tino had found the part in Tempe, arranged a courier, and had his team ready. I have a 2004 Porsche Cayenne that I was towing my car hauler and blew a coolant overflow line buried in the valley. It was a $10 part that cost North of $1,000 to replace because of where it is located. I was really happy to find a competent shop that knows Porsches. They were able to get the part from LA in a couple of days and fix it right after that. They also found an unrelated issue and notified me. BEWARE: I was quoted 120.00 on phone. Paid 250.00 when done. That was just an oil change, with checking all fluids. Two months later I had to add a gallon of wiper fluid. They never checked all fluids. Makes me wonder what they did at all. They told me my brakes, both front and back, needed to be replaced Also said that they got a code for a water pump. My friends husband is a retired mechanic. He said he'd check. No code. Also brakes on rear still have over 50% and the front brakes, that they said was metal on metal have over 25%. My 85' Vanagon broke down in flagstaff the day before new years eve. Ken diagnosed the issue as a broken water pump and started the process of getting the part and the repair going. well. I bought a Mercedes up in flag. Maintenance records since new. Well these guys installed a Chinese part, while charging for a German made part. well when it fails 7 months later. well no shit. Just so you know. This is the Mercedes 300SD with 400k miles. you replaced a water pump, thermostat, and bunch other small stuff and charged the PO 1500 bucks! You installed Chinese parts, and part numbers you provided and charged were for German made parts. so you're a dirt bag for that stuff right off the bat. literally a German BEHR thermostat on rock auto is 14 bucks overnighted. We drove BMW X5 from Maryland to Grand Canyon, car overheated. Pulled over, added coolant, but fan running nonstop, pulled over again, coolant empty. Dropped off car Saturday at Ken's Automotive. Monday he diagnosed issue, complicated, water pump and other items, estimated cost $1,600. He ordered parts, but for some reason they did not arrive as expected, one day delay. I appreciate that he let us know about issue, and he had parts shipped urgent, next day air, as he knew we were anxious to get back on the road. The owner, I think his name is Tino, was very straightforward in his communication. I met lead mechanic, I think his name was Jake. He seemed very honest and capable. We are on our way home, and while I was hoping it was just a broken hose, I feel confident these guys did a good job. My car has 78,000 miles... not happy with BMW. read more

I was told by many people, that my Mini needs to go to Phoenix when it needs work. Not true! Ken's auto repair will do it right here in Flagstaff. I needed a frame to my left front light and I got it in fast and they put it on while I was waiting. I think it was fair cost as well. read more

I was traveling through AZ on the I40 towards California. It was around 9pm and at that time a BMW passed me. Well I couldn't have that! I have an M3 and there is no way I'd let a poxy SUV pass me. So I accelerated from 80 miles per hour to 130. I was screaming along and BAM! The car was slowing down. I pushed the gas but nothing was happening. It was still slowing down! So there I was, on the side of the road praying nothing serious was wrong. I called AAA and asked them to take me to a hotel and the car to a BMW shop in Flagstaff. I searched the internet for a good one thats services BMWs and found Ken's Import Service. If anyone is hesitating about getting AAA, don't! It is a fantastic service that saves you so much hassle. Even if you are stuck in the middle of no where they find you and get you any place safely. The morning came and I walked to Ken's Import and told them I was the owner of the M3 and that the engine made a BAM sound and here I am. Of course I didn't tell him I'm a bloody fool for topping 130 in a 65! He probably figured that out. So here is the thing. While they were looking at my car they offered me free rides to get food or sight see. They actually picked me up from the hotel and dropped me off to wherever I needed to go for free!! I was very humbled at their generosity. The verdict on my car was that I had blown the engine. Everything was bent and I needed an engine replacement. I would have had NO hesitation to let them replace the engine because they are qualified BMW mechanics but I live in California and I didn't want to drive to Flagstaff for any problems that may occur with the refitted engine. I had it towed to California and had the engine replaced there. Ken's Import Service did NOT charge me to look at the car. Yes, thats what I said. They didn't charge me!! So I was shuttled around for free and the investigation into the problem was free. I had to give them something so I paid them $100 for them to put my car on a tow truck in odd hours. The tow truck guy was a bit of a looney buts thats another story. If anyone is in need of a very good team of mechanics in the Flagstaff area, do not hesitate to use Ken's Import Service!! read more

I am the latest traveler to be helped by Ken's Import Service. I was between Amarillo and Flagstaff when my clutch started acting up. I was aware of what the likely problem was and called Ken's in advance to tell them that I would be at the shop at about 4:30 pm. Upon arrival, a quick verification of the problem was done before placing an overnight order of the clutch slave cylinder. A little after three the next day the car was ready to go. By the way, my car is a 1975 BMW 2002 so getting parts is perhaps a bit more challenging than most vehicles. I was very pleased that the part was secured so quickly. I found Ken's based on several reviews recommending it for European car service in Flagstaff. The reason for my visit was that my Audi had the check engine light on and was behaving bizarrely. By the end of the business day, the problems had been fixed and I was given a clear explanation about the different problems that were discovered over the course of the visit. Jerry is very friendly and most definitely knows his stuff about cars. They were upfront about the cost and if you have a European car, I highly recommend Ken's Import Service. Plus, several weeks after my visit, the owner Tito followed up with me via a phone call to ask how my car was performing. Now that is what I call customer service! 11/14/2012 Follow Up: I had the thermostat in my Audi replaced and found that my coolant tank was empty several days after the repair had taken place. I took my vehicle back to Ken's and it was quickly diagnosed that the replacement part was leaking. A new O-ring was ordered and my car was repaired at no additional cost. I sent my daughter there thinking this was an honest shop, but they charged her over $115 just to tighten her gas cap!! My daughter actually gave the mechanic the error code before dropping it off, but because she was busy going to and from classes at a new school she just took it to this shop trusting they would be honest. The shop had the car all day for a diagnostic check, charged her $75, plus $40 more to drive it around, then told her that it was only a loose gas cap that needed to be tightened! She was told that she could pick it up before they closed or if she couldn't get there before closing there would be a storage fee!! I told the mechanic we normally use in our state and he said that every good mechanic knows that they should check the gas cap first for an evaporative emission code. So, thanks for taking advantage of a simple mistake made by an unassuming college student....what an awesome welcome to FLAGSTAFF! Also, you should work on your customer service skills but I guess it doesn't matter because who would go to this shop on a regular basis :( read more

When there is NO integrity in a business, there is no business (A SCAM)! I am a single elderly woman whom just moved to Flagstaff, AZ May of 2017. I needed to get my transmission serviced and paid what I needed to have that done. Tino (guy who runs the front desk) was great about it! Then stupid me took my Honda CRV in for an oil change (granted, I did not ask up front how much it would be), yes only an oil change and was charged $89....who in their right mind would pay $89 for an oil change. I then was told I needed to repair my "front motor mount", I asked how much it would cost? Tino, who I thought I could trust up until the oil change, quoted me $250. Interesting enough, I needed to take my car into Honda (Flagstaff Dealership) for a airbag recall, they did a twelve point inspection and found absolutely NO issue with my motor mount. I can't say enough good things about Ken's import service! My son was on his way to California from Massachusetts about 2500 miles from home when he was unable to start his Audi S4 at the Grand Canyon and had to be towed to get it fixed. We searched online and found Ken's, which turned out to be the best thing we ever did. Not only did they not take advantage of this young man in a bad situation but they helped him out and got them back on the road for only a small amount of money. They did excellent work and made sure that he was not going to have the problem again. Summary: The auto shop claimed that they were service professional for import cars and would use genuine BMW fuel pump for my car. One year later the car broke down. The BMW dealer I went to told me that the fuel pump in my car was a fake, and that the pump was melting down creating a fire hazard to my personal safety. Here are the details about what happened: In November 2010 I was driving my 2006 BMW X5 in a road trip from Texas to California. The car broke down in Arizona due to fuel pump failure. I had the car towed to Ken's Import Service & Repair in Flagstaff, AZ, where they claimed that they were specialized in imported cars. The auto shop put on a new fuel pump and a new fuel filter under their work order #21052. I was assured at that time by the auto shop that the new fuel pump is an authentic BMW fuel pump. Because my car has an extended warranty, the auto shop also contacted and filed claim with the warranty company using BMW part number. Under that situation, both I and the warranty company approve the job and paid the bill of $1066. First trouble came right after I picked up my car from the auto shop. The engine worked really strangely on the road. After I barely made to Las Vegas, the engine light is on and I had to send the car to Desert BMW of Las Vegas. After checking, the dealer told me that the seal of the new fuel pump was fit incorrectly and was leaking badly. I had to stay in Las Vegas for three days to fix the problem. Then I contacted Ken's Import Service & Repair asking for an explanation. After lengthy emails, the auto shop acknowledged their fault and refunded me $309 for the repair bill of the seal leaking, but refused to pay for my hotel/taxi expenses. Trying to save myself from more arguing with the auto shop, I accepted the check, hoping that is the end of my trouble with that auto shop. The turning point came in February 2012. I have moved to Los Angeles at that time. The car was in BMW of Monrovia for service check of some other parts in the fuel system. After disassembling the fuel system from the car, the dealer notified me that the fuel pump was melting down and leaking fatal gas steam into the car, that the fuel pump there was NOT a BMW pump, and that this was a fire hazard to my car and my personal safety. I was totally angry after knowing the truth, for the facts that: a. Ken's Import Service & Repair has marketed themselves to customers as professionals for imported cars while they are in fact incompetent to provide such service. (What kind of professional service are they who do not even know how to put a seal correctly and cannot tell if a part is real or fake?) b. They lied to their customer/warranty company on their face, used fake and inferior auto part, and recklessly put their clients' personal safety into danger, for their own profits. I wrote a letter to the owner of Ken's Import Service & Repair, demanding an explanation and solution. He dragged on for two months, then simply said "the fuel pump for your car is a oem. pump and that is where I have to go by", but refused to show any supporting document to prove its authentication. To whoever read this review: Think twice before you use this auto shop. I have the official reports from two BMW dealers, witnesses, physical evidence and all the written communication with the auto shop regarding everything I said here. I would like to bring to your attention about the business practice of this auto shop, just to do my part to prevent the same disaster from happening to other consumers, who may already fall in as victim of this company but did not even know the danger they were in. Genuine, helpful, amazing service and work ethic would be the words I'd use to describe Ken's. We were moving from California to Texas but ran into car noise in our 2002 Audi A6 once we hit Flagstaff. Tim got us in the shop the very next morning and told us we had bad power steering. Problem was we had to hurry to Texas for a job interview, and the particular pump was nowhere to be found. Shipping would've taken at least several days and no one else in town had them. Tim ended up calling Audi in Phoenix, who fortunately had the part. Tim sent one of this guys to drive down to Phoenix (2 hrs away) and back up the same day and had 3 other technicians on standby to make sure we could get the repair done that day. Thanks to his help we were on our way by 6PM, and made it to Texas in time. Amazing service and experience!! read more

This stranded tourist showed up at their shop at 3:30 pm on a busy day and before closing at 5pm they were able to get me in, diagnose the problem, and arrange for the parts to be there first thing in the morning. They got me to and from my hotel and and had me back out on the road by 11:30am the next day, all with good humor and jokes along the way. Our 2003 Saab had to be towed to Flagstaff on December 31, 2012. Ken's was recommended to us. We (I) were in panic mode...strange city, late afternoon, New Year's Eve... Tino, Tim, and ? ( sorry, didn't get your name) found the problem, fixed it and we were done within an hour!! While we were waiting they couldn't have been nicer. We weren't sure how long it might take, if the repair could be made that day, etc. They assured us they would get us a car, or get us to a motel, whatever it took (including our two dogs) to make us comfortable in the difficult situation. So, here is your 5 star review, Tim! You all earned each one and I would not hesitate to bring my car here, if we lived in Flagstaff. I was just getting ready to drive back down to Phoenix when my car broke down. Every other place told me there's was no way I'd get it fixed that day. Brought it into kens and they immediately started working on the car and didn't make me feel like I was inconveniencing them at all and I know I was. I'm only giving 1 star because 0 stars is not an available option. The mechanics may do a good enough job, but the service manager Tim somehow keeps his job despite talking over customers, failing to listen to basic information that he is told, and being a raging sexist. A male friend gave me a ride back to the shop to pick up my car after my first (and last!) service there for an oil change and clutch cable adjustment, and even my buddy was offended by Tim's attitude toward me - the paying customer and owner of the car - namely to say that I was ignored while Tim talked to my friend about my car the whole time, even when answering questions I asked, until it was time for him to take my credit card. Despite this, I called to schedule the brake job I was told I needed, and Tim not only quotes me a much higher rate than I was given during my first trip there, but he also wasted my time by trying to bully me into unnecessarily leaving my car at the shop all week despite telling him several times that I needed a 1 day turnaround - he was blown away that I "only had 1 car." He then reads off the notes on my brake pads' condition that is significantly different than what he told me they were when I was standing in the garage the first time. I called a specialty import sports car service shop in the valley that came recommended by a car nut friend* - they gave me a way better quote and were actually professional, polite, and helpful! I've lived in Flagstaff 7 years and I always try to keep my money in town, but I'm happy to take my money down the hill rather than be shit on by my local guys. *I drive a weird old car, no one else in town works on them or I'd just find a different local mechanic. read more

Do not go here for service. They charged me over $200 to replace my front brakes but never did the service. When I talked to them and pointed out they never did the service but still charged me for a service, he said I was crazy and told me I never asked for brakes to be replaced. Which was the main reason I came to the shop. Then they told me to bring back my truck and they would do the front brakes for over $400. I asked them why I would ever want to be over charged twice for a service I already paid and never received? I asked for a refund for the brake job charge and they said no. I have filed a fraud complaint with my bank and waiting for the answer. read more

They were busy but John checked me in and Tino did a ride along to listen to the under carriage noise. He heard it and immediately put it on the rack. Within 30 minutes the problem found and solved. I first visited several years ago, when my check engine light came on while on the freeway. I had developed a cooling system leak. Recommended by my regular mechanic. Good Service. Since, there's a different office manager and I will not return following shoddy repairs done to my Audi 100s last summer. The fuel pump was replaced, but the gas gauge on the dashboard no longer worked-stuck on 1/2 full. Also, there was a quite strong smell of fuel. Both of these issues should have been checked out before the vehicle was cleared for me to drive home 60 miles after hours. At the very least the inexpensive rubber gasket should automatically should have been replaced, since a good bit of labor went into accessing the fuel tank. Similarly, the sending unit may not have been reattached, or damaged during repairs. If it needed to be replaced I would have paid for the additional charges. Instead, the shop informed me that I needed an additional $1200 of repairs to replace the water pump and timing belt. These repairs were completed by more trusted shop. In my attempts to politely ask Ken Imports to stand by their earlier work, which clearly missed fuel gauge an fuel smell issues, I sadly came to lose faith in their ability to do honest work. Tim, was increasingly rude to me, as well. With so many tourists traveling through Flag, a business might expect to prey on the unsuspecting. But, that can go on only for so long. If you must visit this shop, during an emergency, then watch out. I won't return. read more

I will NEVER use them again nor do i suggest anybody else. I came in for a standard service and left with the worst taste in my mouth ive ever had from an auto repair shop. They felt they did extra work beyond the scope of a normal oil change and wanted additional money... getting my hood to pop open (which i told them could be an issue). When i informed them i didn't have the minimum extra $100 to spend to fix the hood, i was basically told to get my car and never bring it back - by the owner Tino, and then had some random mechanic who brought my car up front tell me to "take my car and get the f*ck out of there" and was then threatened, again i suggest NO ONE uses Ken's, Brock at European Motor Company on 1519 N. Main Street is where ill be taking all my import car's from here on out, he actually isn't trying to rip anyone off. read more

I broke down while traveling on a Friday afternoon. My van was quickly looked at by a young man who couldn't diagnose it, but said someone else could on Monday morning. I understand. So I left the van and rented a car for the weekend to go to a memorial service a few hours away. On Monday at 9 am I called and was told that the van would be diagnosed shortly as they were aware I needed to get back home by Tuesday. Six hours later and many frustrating calls I was told, not only, would they not look at it for a few days, but they probably couldn't get parts (for what? there was no diagnostics yet) for a few days.... I wasn't even asking them to fix it, just diagnose it so I could make a decision about how I was getting home. So, I am not sure about Ken's mechanical service, but I am sure they left me hanging. I took my van and broke down 150 miles away again-my own fault yes, but if I had a diagnosis I wouldn't have tried. read more
