BLUF: Electronic parts are made too cheaply, are non-refundable, and are often defective. I purchased a blinker relay here for my 2003 Ford mustang online. The relay I got here didn't work and just got hot (it showed signs of being defective). Went back to get a refund. I casually explained to the employee that I needed a new one because the first one was getting hot and just not working. Right off the bat he began gaslighting me that the issue wasn't the relay and was most likely a crossed wire. I disagreed, got a new relay and went on my way. That one didn't work either. I went to a different store (Ellicott City) and explained that the relays clearly weren't working and they refused to refund me because they are electronic parts. I didn't do the exchange again because they clearly weren't compatible with my vehicle or just plain cheap. I got a used Ford brand relay off ebay and it works just fine. Long story short I'm never going back to Advance Auto Parts. Bad experience all around. read more

They let me borrow an OBII reader (battery is going bad) and the staffer Jamie even verified the problem with their dedicated battery tester. Above and beyond, I didn't even buy anything today. He suggested the best buy to get the parts I needed (their rewards program is awesome) especially the 30 cent per gal discount partnership with Shell. The military discount is awesome. I was disappointed with the service I received. I had ordered an item online to avoid searching for it in the store and received confirmation to pick it up in 30 minutes. When I arrived, the lady at the counter couldn't find it. I wondered why the order had gone through if the item was not in stock. another employee suggested calling another store for pick up. Since I had ordered from the store app nearby to save time, I expected them to spend a few extra minutes to find a solution since no other customers were waiting. I went into this store today at about 1915 today (08/26/22). I needed a windshield wiper for my back window (2016 Subaru) and a bulb for my passenger headlight. I'm not familiar with auto parts, so I went up to the counter, smiled at the 25-35 year old male African American (I didn't get his name) and said, "Hi, I'm looking for a... " at which point he sneered at me and walked away. I work in retail (Home Depot) and while I can often feel disdain at work for my fellow humans, I always keep my personal disgust for customers to myself, especially when they approach me in a friendly manner, like I did with this associate. I went to look for the items I needed but returned to the counter and asked another associate, an African American woman who was completely helpful and friendly, for the items I needed. She helped me find what I needed. I asked her to let her store manage know how disrespectful her associate was to me (I said "he sneered at me and walked away".) to which she smiled (which I took as she's had this complaint before). Like I said, I work retail, and because I know how awful some customers can be, I always go out of my way to be patient and friendly with other retail employees. Terrible customer service. They had what we were looking for. But when we had a return they just weren't interested in honoring their own policy of merchandise credit for returns with no receipt. The employee was just like sorry it's our policy we can't accept the return. But then I saw the return policy printed on a piece of paper above the register and It clearly stated that without receipt you can get store credit. So odd. And we talked with two employees about It too. They were just like nope. Not only that but they had some very vulgar music playing and rather loudly. Not sure what's going on here. read more

at store location 7314 my mother went there on 1/5/25 to get her vehicle checked out with their diagnostic and the employees did not do their job of diagnostics, instead the employees on shift asked for her valuables and gave her their meter to check the vehicle. when i have gone to different locations i havent experienced any of that the employees actually did their job and would check the vehicles out with their meter. my mother is 67 years old and doesnt know anything about vehicles and had to ask a pedestrian to help her out with the meter and her vehicle. so far if you need help with anything i wouldnt suggest that location unless you are just going there for a part. read more

He gives no clear direction and when you ask for a clear direction his response is its tricky question. You will have to figure out things on your own. When you ask for help there's always no help. But he makes sure the certain managers he hangs with outside of work gets help. If your not in that click he will not have your back. To give a little background, I originally went to a repair shop close to my home to get a new battery. I showed up exactly when the shop was supposed to open, but when nobody showed up after half an hour of waiting, I left in a terrible mood. Of course I still needed a battery, so I decided to check out Advance Auto Parts in Jessup since it was close and installation is free when you purchase a battery. Today was my first time at AAP. The place was very clean and, at the time of my visit, not busy at all. The young woman at the counter (I believe her name was Kenisha) was very pleasant and greeted me right away. I told her I needed a battery replacement, but she offered to have my battery tested first to be sure. Jason performed the battery and alternator check, and it was determined that I did indeed need a new battery. Jason switched out my battery in no time, and he was extremely friendly and informative throughout the entire process. After starting my morning on a bad note, I am so grateful for the relaxed experience and wonderful customer service that I received at Advance Auto Parts. So I'm standing in line waiting to be checked out. Mind you, I'm the only customer in line. Two cashiers with no customers at the counter, one preoccupied with his register, and then there's, "DAVE!" Slumped over the counter preoccupied with his cellphone. So, as I'm standing in line waiting to be serviced staring at them both, the one cashier says, "DAVE!" as he looks in my direction. "DAVE" nonchalantly says as he looks in my direction, "YEAH, I SAW HIM." "DAVE" flicks his cellphone across the counter and asks, "CAN I HELP YOU?" So I proceeded to be serviced for my transaction, and he told me to have a nice day with a smile on his face as I walked out the door. I'm a minority business owner, president, and CEO. I take PRIDE, and I stand FIRM on the treatment of all my customers! "DAVE" is the prime example of an employee with POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS and, in my opinion, needs to be retrained in customer service and sensitivity skills. Let me start by saying that Chris and Ty delivered beyond exceptional service today!!!! Got to AutoZone about 5 minutes before it closed to get my battery checked and they were on it! No attitudes and all smiles as I told them how my car battery died on me the day before despite it being completely new! They conducted a full test and even replaced my windshield wipers for me despite it being past closing time! I'm so thankful that they were able to help me. I went to this location after going to several other locations without much help and the guy who helped me Alex and his coworker monte(spelling) were so helpful I can't even put it into words I asked 1 million questions and needed help several times and they were so patient and helpful and made me feel so much better about the trouble I was having, which might have been simple to others but was my first time doing it and was difficult for me they're awesome I will definitely be back for everything else!!!! read more

As a woman, I dread going into auto parts stores. In truth, I am often pleasantly surprised by employees who are respectful, professional, and helpful -- but, sadly, this was not one of those times. So, I needed a headlight for my European import -- despite the brand, this is a common item I've bought off-the-rack in auto part stores before.The employee's first reaction was a smirk, and "Where is the nearest dealership?" I persisted, and he looked through the computer and found the headlight -- for nearly $50. I knew it hadn't cost nearly that much when I'd bought it before, and asked him for other options. "Oh, so you're going to sell the car right away, huh?" he sneered. After a few more back-and-forths, he finally allowed me to buy a package of 2 for $30, and I walked out seething. What a jerk, and what poor management for not making sure that the employees know to treat their customers better. I'm crossing this store off my list. read more

I ordered brake pads online from the Advanced Auto website and picked them up later in day at the store in Jessup, MD. Great! That part went very well........I get them home and I realize they are the incorrect brake pads. I entered in my vehicle information correctly and I double checked that. No big deal.....I am not mechanically inclined and my stepfather was the one who noticed this. When I went to exchange them for the correct ones, I was met by a rude and dismissive cashier by the name of Jason. He was not very helpful at all! He was very sarcastic and downright condescending. I didn't have the receipt but did have my online order form with payment and info regarding the pickup at the store the previous night. He basically was implying that I was a liar and treated me like complete crap. He didn't seem like he wanted to help and that I was complete bother to him. I don't appreciate that kind of service and I hate to give a bad review but this one is warranted. I will no longer shop at this Advanced Auto Parts. I will use the one in Columbia or just use another Auto Store. read more

So this is my second time going to this store and at my last visit I would have rated this store a two star. The lady at the register was busy, they were rather understaffed and dismissive and I ended up leaving without the car battery that I needed. At THIS visit, I worked with an awesome guy called Eric. He took his time to check my battery and alternator, answer my questions about the car itself and was incredibly patient and helpful.
