The worse return policy I ever heard of! I purchased a car scanner diagnostic tool from them, realized after purchase that the unit I purchased didn't perform the ABS reset I was looking for. When I went to return the item, the clerk pointed to an archaic return policy in small letter that read no return on electronic devices. Even though the item was never opened, they refused to accept the return. Rediculous policy. This is Advance Auto Parts store #06747 according to my receipt. It's located near the busy intersection of 54 and Hope Valley Rd, across the street from Harris Teeter, and next door to popular and recommended Sam's Bottle Shop. All I needed was some windshield washer fluid for my car. I've always liked Rain-X brand washer fluid and recently have been buying gallons of the orange-colored 2-in-1 fluid. I like the orange version because it's all-season and works the same in cold and hot temperatures. The Rain-X washer fluids also supposedly apply water-beading properties to your windshield which help with visibility (safety). I used to detail my car and apply multiple coats of the Rain-X Original Glass Water Repellent myself. It worked really well. As soon as I entered the store, employee Justin K asked if he could help me with anything. I was in and out in a flash. He was helping customers real quicklike, super speedy. The washer fluid was $5.49 for a gallon plus $0.41 in sales tax (7.5%) so $5.90 total. The store looked clean, organized, and well-stocked. If I'm in Chapel Hill, need auto parts/supplies and don't want to drive far, this Advance Auto Parts will be one of the first places I come (this store is located near the Durham-Chapel Hill border). I had previously purchased a battery from this location for my 2014 Murano. Battery was diehard platinum, 2 years old. My wife was concerned the car was sluggish cranking over on start. I conducted a test of the battery using a multimeter and the results indicated the performance was marginal. The manager tested the battery using their tester and validated my results. The battery was functional but declining. CCA was 445 out of 585 rating. I decided to replace the battery rather than risk being stranded over the next few months. The manager was pleasant helpful and had a great attitude. He checked warranty status and indicated the battery was under warranty. Replacement and installation was no charge. Customer service in many places is lacking these days. Refreshing to deal somewhere where the company and staff are doing it right. read more

I went to this location to have a battery replaced. they found the battery I asked for a red top not knowing the brand and was told this is the battery for your car . When they looked under the hood I was told I had an optimum battery ok that is what I wanted in the first place. Abul proceeded to work on removing the battery he was very rude. Then proceeded to say we don't replace batteries on these type cars. The lady assisting him assured me they do install batteries in my car. I stopped in to get new wiper blades since one of mine was falling apart. The clerk (I think his name was Adam) asked what make and model I have, typed in a computer, and told me what sizes I needed. He told me which aisle they were in and added that they range from expensive on the left to less expensive on the right. I was looking at some mid-range wipers that had a rebate but he came over and advised against them since their rain-resistant coating wears out fast. AS RUDE AS THEY ARE INCOMPETENT. THEY LEFT ME STRANDED AND PUT ME AT PERSONAL RISK. I stopped into Sam's Bottle Shop this afternoon to pickup some tasty beverages and upon leaving found my wife's MDX wouldn't start. This was an inconvenience but surely, being next door to an auto parts store was a saving grace, right? Approaching Advance Auto Parts, I noticed a crowd of young twenty somethings with modern "hot rods" examining each others rides. There were also, lots of other people in this lot, seemingly using this as a hangout to share car knowledge and pass the time in the modern lock down Covid-19 era. Upon entering the building, I found the store to be crowded and disorganized. There were several patrons in the entry way just milling around. I wasn't sure where to stand to ask for help, so I just continued to shuffle aside as employees walked in and out ignoring my presence. I was worried for my safety, with the close proximity of patrons and employees both in and outside the store. The situation was completely mismanaged! After a short while, I approached a register and I explained that my wife's car had died and that I needed a battery for a 2016 MDX. The employee introduced himself as an Advance Auto Parts 'technician'. He said he would check the life of the battery and picked up a device to do so. A frustrating sequence of events would then occur over the next 20 minutes whereby, I was told - * That a battery check couldn't be performed because a black negative battery terminal was not accessible (it must not be taught in Advance Auto Part 'Technician' school that the chassis is a suitable ground). * They had a battery in stock but they would not install because "the computer wouldn't let them"(whatever that means), despite large signage hanging on the front of the building advertising a "free battery install" with every purchase. * After a battery check was performed, I was told that the battery was not the issue, it was the starter. The 'technician' explained to me that the best he could offer was to attempt to start the car with a small portable jumping device. This involved walking back into the crowded parking lot and chaotic store again. The portable jumping device obviously did not work, my wife's MDX has a 6.5L V6 engine. For the device he had to work, he would need to let it trickle charge for several minutes. The 'technician' then explained that I should call Acura or if I still believed the battery was the issue, I should ask random patrons as they came into the store if they could help me. So in a time where we should all be limiting our interactions as much as possible his suggestion was, I should try to engage in bunch of them with strangers? I sat in my wife's car for bit, then walked back to the crowded Advance Auto Parts store and spent $39.76 on a set of jumper cables. I asked the sales associate (who was not the gentleman, that I had worked with earlier), if he or some other employee could help me jump my car. A loud and perturbed voice, suddenly came from the back of the store. "ARE YOU BACK AGAIN!? I ALREADY JUMPED YOU!! IT'S NOT YOUR BATTERY!!" shouted the 'technician' I had worked with earlier, to a room full of employees and other patrons. "Yeah but you used that little box, that won't ever work..." I said, referring to this portable car jumper. "We can't use our personal cars to start customers cars, it's company policy... WE'RE DONE HERE! PLEASE LEAVE!!" said the 'technician'. It was definitely clear to me now, that from the moment I stepped into the store looking to buy a battery this 'technician' wasn't interesting in helping me. Time is money but time was also his time to hangout in the parking lot with his friends. The battery install would require work and he might actually have to know how to do his job. The rudeness, incompetence and indifference to my needs as a customer are the insults. The way that this store is being managed with the blatant negligence towards public health is the injury. In the end, I walked back to Sam's Bottle Shop and asked an employee if he would help jump my car, he said "Of course man!". The car started and I drove home moments later. It was the battery after all. NOTE: A brief search of the web showed that - * No such such employee car battery jumping policy exists (though, that would be oddly specific if it did exist). * Several 1-2 star experiences have been written for this location due to similar dismissive and rude behavior on behalf of the employees. * According to Wikipedia -- "Advance says that its Team Members are the best parts people in the business. I was not sure what the make of my car was LT Or LTD. I tell him Ill be right back . When I went outside to get my license num I came bac and noticed my salesperson a hispanic guy with a face tattoo was helping another customer. It was at this point where I started to be disrespected he did not acknowledge me and ignored me when I was being helped first . He didnt say hold on , Ill be with you in a momemt etc etc when I came back in store. I stood at least 10 min waiting but he continued to assist other person. Quite frankly hes lucky I didnt call him out for it. What makes it worse is that the other hispanic guy was just on his phone not doing his job meaning he didnt offfer help I guess his phone was more important. So I come in on a slow, Thursday afternoon with my 'do list' on several issues with my Toyota. A very nice young gentlemen - "Daniel", asks me how can he help! O.K. right there, that just NEVER happens at an auto parts store. I'm impressed. So I tell him that I have a headlamp that needs adjustment - and to do it, I'll need to buy an angle ratchet and sockets ... as I only have about 2 1/2" inch of space. On Amazon they run about $20.00 and up. " O.K. he says maybe we can do it cheaper." So he goes back and brings out a multi-purpose screwdriver with 6 attachments. And, a 1/4 " combo ratcheting wrench. He puts the Philips head inside the socket and presto, I have a $8.50 solution !! I have also frequented the locally-owned craft beer store, Sam's Bottle Shop, which is adjacent to this property for nearly as long. Apparently this Advance Auto location now aggressively towed vehicles from the parking lot despite a friendly agreement with the previous manager. I came here with, what i thought was an alternator/battery problem, but these guys were absolutely phenomenal in diagnosis and fix of the problem! They had difficulty determining why my battery kept losing a charge and why the computer kept saying it was ok. The manager and employee of the store took extra time in diagnosis and explanation of the issue. He attempted a few different things and eventually was able to determine that I needed a new battery. I am a student and was worried that if I spent the money on the battery-and it was not the issue-I'd be out $149, but he assured me I could return if it didn't work. Went in for a generic turn signal relay for my motorcycle. I have purchased these from other auto parts stores many ticked (and got it later at an auto zone) so I went right to the bulbs isle where it should have been. I couldnt find it so I asked an employee. He told me to go look back where I had already searched, and when I told him I had already looked there he dismissed me with a "well that's where they are". I asked a different employee and she had no earthly idea what a turn signal relay was.
