We have been ADT customers for 13 years, ever since we were robbed while doing a large home renovation, including new windows and sliders, so of course we had no active alarm system. The installation was good, not great, but we have a large house and that creates some difficulties with system which is not hardwired. We have found the wi-fi connection to be perfect for our purposes, including simply using our phone if we were already in bed and too lazy to get up and walk to the main panel to set the night "stay" alarm. The monthly bill is within our capacity, but it might be more than others would want to pay. And special technical service is very expensive, $59 for the service call, but a lot more if onsite work is needed, starting at $189 for the first half-hour. In the past, one could get phone help, including direct conversation with technical support, but that seems to have disappeared. We discovered this when the battery in a motion detector sensor started to die and we bought a new battery, only to find that we could not open the sensor to get at the battery itself, even after watching videos from YouTube and ADT itself. read more

I have problems with ADT. I have an alarm constantly going off all day long. I spent three hours on the phone with support department last Thursday and was disconnected four times. Support could not fix it. We tried every suggestion and even did a video connection for them to review the equipment and hear the beeping. They had me disconnect all of the smoke alarms and the beeping continued, they had me remove all the batteries and it still beeped. They had me reset the system and it still beeped, they had me remove the batteries from the keyboard and it still beeped. They had me shut down the system and it still BEEPED! I am checking the one star box only because there is no zero or negative stars. STAY AWAY FROM ADT I had to wait almost a week (Wednesday) for a service call. The service person checked everything and could not resolve the problem and told me it would cost $180.00 an hour to research the problem and I need to call the service department again. I called Tuesday and told them I want to cancel after 10 years and was told they will send a repair person again and they would waive the service call charged. I was told that the representative would be here between noon and 4:00 pm so I had to take off from work. THE SERVICE REP NEVER SHOWED UP AND NEVER EVEN BOTHERED TO CALL. This is the worst customer care I have ever experienced and lack of response. I will be cancelling my account in the morning. ADT shows no concern for loyal customers. I will suggest to anyone reading this, DO NOT USE ADT SECURITY under any circumstances. There are many companies that can be used for less money and will respond to customers . read more

This system was in place when I moved in so I called and had the system turned on for what I thought was month to month like the internet or your utilities. If I could give a negative zero rating I would. I canceled my alarm service when I moved out. They continued to bill me. I was told that they would reimburse me which they never did. Every time I called them, I was transferred 3 or 4 times and always to a call center overseas. After having called several times to AGAIN ask them to stop billing me, I was told that I had to pay them a contract fee! WTH? These people are super shady. When they were Protection One, never any issues. Once ADT tookover, horrible, they did not update all emergency info. for our business, and we had an emergency!!!!! When the little box battery installed into the outlet, it had melted a bit ( 25 years) and alarm stopped working. We called ADT, and he quoted us $500.00 install a new, and he said two days to fix. Individual technicians were great, but the ADT service overall, including account services, and customer service was hands down half a star. After hours upon hours of my time, ADT conceded to lower my monthly payment to retain my account, but they did not follow through and still charged me the full amount. A couple months later, still not receiving the lower rate and still a poorly operating glitchy system, I cancelled my service - and they proceeded to charge me 3 weeks after cancelling. This is supposedly my last bill, but we'll see. I'd say my best day with ADT was the day I cancelled - but they got the best of me since they are still charging me....well played ADT. I've had an AD&T system in our home for over 14 years. However, on May 4, 2025 our house caught on fire. Not only did our ADT system fail to alert us of the smoke or fire, but ADT has been giving me the runaround ever since. Because we had to vacate our home while it was cleaned and rebuilt, I called ADT to put my account on pause/hold. Guess what? They don't do that. Because they don't want customers to completely cancel with them, their only solution was to credit my account for several months so my credit card wouldn't get charged. Unfortunately, that means I have to call and sit on hold for HOURS every few months to try to explain to numerous representatives why they need to extend. And I'm not exaggerating when I say it takes HOURS. When I initially spoke to someone about pausing my account after the fire, I was told by the account manager that he would submit an application for, "ADT's Safety net coverage." According to him, I would be compensated $500 because we didn't receive any ADT alerts before/during the fire. Unfortunately, I never heard anything about that, so after several hours on the phone again, I was told that no such program exists. I asked to file a dispute or a complaint (since my contract says I should be compensated up to 10% or $500 for not being alerted about the fire), however, none of the many representatives I spoke to claimed to know how to file a dispute or claim. And of course, none of them would let me speak to a manager or supervisor. I typed out a formal letter and mailed it to ADT's corporate offices weeks ago, yet they too didn't respond. So basically, for 14 years I paid for a service that failed me when I had a fire. Adding up the MANY times I called seeking help, I literally spent more than 10 hours talking to people, some of them rude. Despite spending all of that time, my issues still remain unresolved. When I move back into my home, I will not be reactivating my ADT alarm system solely because of this horrific customer service. All you have to do is read through the reviews here folks. They have no idea how to work with customers at ADT. They'll keep you on the phone upselling until you relent - even if it's over an hour. Very similar to timeshare tactics on sales team. Then they will lock you in to a multi year contract and nickel and dime you every step of the way. Heed the call and find a better security company in the Coachella Valley and California overall. The worst is when you have to stop service or sell your property, they have absolutely no idea how to terminate service so instead they likely break California privacy laws and keep your system active- even with new buyers moved in. After 4 years of dealing with malfunctioning equipment, we finally cancelled our ADT service. The doorbell in particular was never working properly, and we tried to solve the various issues 4 separate times with no lasting success. The last time, they sent a technician without informing me there would be a service fee, then charged us $59 to tell us that the doorbell they installed shouldn't have been because it needs more electricity than our house can provide in that spot. When I asked for a refund, they were unable to accommodate me. And of course when I cancelled, they had to tell me about "a call they just got about a woman in my area who'd been robbed" yeah right, that's what they said the last time I tried to cancel too. A few years ago we had a fire in our kitchen and the heat sensor did not go off. Upon investigation it was determined the heat sensor was never connected. We had over $80,000 in damage. Fast forward to this week. We had a power outage and the smoke alarms went off. The service technician could not tell me how to disarm them. They are hardwired to the system so I eventually just disconnected the wires. In doing so, I discovered the smoke alarms were over 15 years old. I called back and requested they come replace the smoke detectors and heat sensors as they are all well beyond their life expectancy. They wanted to charge me $120 for each smoke detector (I needed two) and $120 for each heat sensor (I needed 2) and a $99 service charge to come and install the replacement equipment. They then wanted me to sign a contract for the purchase and installation. The kicker was the contract included a clause that says ADT retains ownership of the equipment after it is installed. The customer service person kept telling me the equipment would belong to me after payment. He did acknowledge the contract did not say that. After over an hour on the phone I canceled the order. (I never signed the digital contract). It turns out the service representative did not cancel the order. Two days later I receive a call to schedule the installation and the fee was put on my credit card. In summary, customer service is abysmal. Their business practices are questionable at best. My mother is 75, and has spent 2 weeks calling trying to get help. She asked to have the upstairs panel replaced. The service person who showed up today, came empty handed. And said he had to order the panel. What in the world did ADT spend 2 weeks doing? How do you send a tech out without the one part he was set to install. The service call cast $57 dollars. I wish they had negative stars I had ADT install a camera system in/outside of my house. Hence the nightmare began. They plugged cameras into the available outlets. Wires everywhere. Outside they put up battery operated cameras not solar or plug in. I told him I was not getting on a ladder to charge the batteries. The inside cameras failed to work. Service people came out many times and told me that the cameras did not work. They didn't seem to note the last visit. Like they were just random freelance repair men. I was told that they are google cameras, sometimes you get a dud and to take it up with google. I told them that they were responsible for the cameras I bought from them. Backing up. From day one there were problems. The phone number I was given by the installer was never answered. Second week I called main number. When I got ahold of the office, ADT would send my call from one department to the next --- oh you need service, oh you need tech support, oh you need finance... I would be put on hold for about 1/2 an hour each time often racking up 2 hours. I had them on speaker and did other things. Finally, they would either say whoever I needed to speak with wasn't there or just hang up. Next time I called there would be no record of my prior call. An ADT service person came out and said I needed a total pull out but that it was too late for that. Even though I got no security service they were charging me per month. They said until I pay the balance they would not come and fix anything --- that they hadn't fixed in the six months I was dealing with them. I had my credit card stop payment. I received back three months of payment. My credit card company can't go back further than three months. ADT only took me seriously when my credit card was disconnected. ------ WORST EXPERIENCE WITH A COMPANY. They are suppose to be a comfort. I was better off when I did it myself. Canceled service last October 2024. Was called shortly thereafter and offered $9.95 a month service. I was a customer for 20 years. Accepted. The offer evidently never went through and my monitor service was disconnected. It was never reactivated. Three months ago I started getting monthly bills, still with no service. I ignored them. I continued getting bills and today ADT called. I spoke with a representative that basically called me a liar when I told her I haven't had service in over a year. I told her to send a signal to my system and activate the alarm. She said she wasn't a technician and couldn't do that. We moved into a new home. ADT tele-sales sold us a system. Free equipment and install with a low monthly monitoring charge. We bought the package and gave the rep a credit card. When installation time came, ADT tried to jack up the price by $1000 and almost double the cost of monitoring. No thank you we said. They did do a good job of calling and texting every time there was a false alarm. But try to cancel their service- wow. They are ruthless and unethical, pretty much using tele-scammer techniques. I had sold the house and the new owner had set up their own ADT account. But ADT continued to charge my credit card. So I had to call to try to cancel the account and reverse the charges. First, they do not provide a phone number to contact a human being in customer service on their website. So you contact customer service using a chat-bot. The chatbot cannot handle cancelling an account or reversing false charges, so it puts you into a chat with a human being. The human being cannot or does not bother to read the chat conversation, so you end up explaining the situation all over again, in painfully slow segments of text. The person then tells you he cannot handle it, and provides a phone number. You then call ADT and get to tell your story over again. They transfer you to a collegue, and then you get to tell the story all over. That happens three more times. Then the connect you to a person who tries to sell you on keeping their service, not seeming to understand that you do not need or want ADT service any longer. Finally, they tell your they cannot reverse the false charges, and that they will continue to charge you for until the account cancelation goes through on a month or two. So you then call your credit card company, who can reverse the charges, but cannot stop ADT from making more future charges. So then you have to cancel your credit card and have them issue a new one just to stop ADT from charging you for non-existent services. I WOULD NEVER, EVER DO BUSINESS WITH ADT AGAIN. read more

I have been so disappointed with ADT since installing in my home 5 years ago and I am now looking at cancelling and finding another provider. A technician came to my home over the upstairs panel not working. He was rude and condescending to me and then charged me $130 for the visit. When I renewed my ADT contract in February I was told my monthly bill was going to be $20 a month for 2 years. Today I was informed it wasn't approved and that my monthly bill is now $49 a month for the next 2 years. To find out that service purchased 5 years ago and system purchased also are outdated is disappointing. But I could purchase a new system at only $400 . Why wasn't informed when I renewed earlier this year about that instead I find out after the cameras I have are not longer available. AVOID AVOID AVOID! I installed an ADT system on a vacant home I was managing and paid more than $5000 for the system. Several months after installation, I was emailed a 2-year contract to DocuSign. I told them I never agreed to a 2-year contract for service. I never signed it and that was the end of our communication. Six months later I rented the house and the tenants did not want the system. I called ADT to cancel and they said I had agreed to the 2-year contract when I signed the work order with the installer and in order to cancel I would need to pay cancellation fees and the remainder of the 2-year "agreement." I was told the only way to dispute this would be to leave the service in place and file a fraud dispute which would take about 30 days for them to evaluate. This company is the epitome of non-transparent in my opinion. I don't know of any reputable, quality company that does business like this. read more

I had a complete security system installed and there were many mistakes made when installed, not the least of which was that the main control panel didn't work at all. When I made ADT come out and fix it, they broke the control panel for my HVAC system which I've been battling them to get fixed. They have provided HORRIBLE customer service, not the least of which is trying to charge me for the visit to come out and fix the control panel that was not working since its initial installation. I would give a zero if I could. A friend of mine died in January. I've been trying since March to discontinue ADT services. I've spoken to 5 different people. The first 3 assured me there would be no additional charges and the account is closed. I continue to get bills. Today I spoke to a supervisor who informed me the bill is for equipment charges. NO ONE on any previous calls said anything about equipment charges. I was told repeatedly there was no balance due. It's extremely frustrating dealing with this company. Beware- Stay away! read more

If you purchase the service what they don't tell you is that if anything goes wrong... They charge $59 for a driving fee to come to your house. They gave me a 4 hour window then stretched it to 6 hours by the time they showed up x 2. The first service appointment did not solve the issue, they charged me again for the second service appointment. They charge an additional fee for how ever long the technician is at your house. Today I have spent 8 hours of my time waiting and dealing with ADT. They still have not fixed the problem. I then had to call sales to have an additional person come out and assess. Then another appointment needs to be made to install the new equipment. Add the drive fee and the technician charge on to that. Very dissatisfied with how they run this company. Absolutely horrible service and horrible equipment. We have literally had a tech here every month to try to get our cameras to actually work. One year of fighting over what needs to be fixed . This is just part of the problem. Non-Functioning equipment, techs that arrive are not trained mk to fix the problem , they are unable to spend the time to solve the problem and lack the skills needed as well. Our latest technician who was beyond lazy needed to have msignificantly better hygiene. A shower would have helped. We were appalled. Ok, so get the retention team on the phone. I am tired of paying for no results. Your equipment sucks and I want out now. With all of the competitionm out there it is time to recognize that its not going well and significant change is needed. I made a sixth appointment and the technician who came out was rude, cut me off mid sentence and then blamed his ADHD, when I told him he was being rude. He then continued the same rude behavior. He wanted to charge me a fee, for what the customer service people said would be free. I called ADT customer service and the technician kept interrupting, while I was trying to talk to customer service. He then drove away without saying anything. When I called corporate they were even worse. The woman I spoke with said Our poor customer service and not being able to fix your keypad does not void your contract. Finally after the seventh appointment Juan was able to fix our keypad problem by swapping the old one out with a new one. read more

I stupidly listed my phone number on what I thought was an online information-only questionnaire about personal alarm services. I quickly found the service I was looking for, but it was not with ADT. Almost immediately after my search I started receiving phone calls, texts and emails from various alarm companies. I told each of them I'd found another company, which I was going with. All the other companies ceased immediately. ADT has continued to call me a minimum of three times a day ever since. I went to an ADT website to ask them to stop calling. I got no response. Because of this, I would never do business with them. If I can't even get them to stop calling me, how do I get their attention? read more

I was notified by ADT my bill was going from $47 to $51- they increase the rate each and every year. I called and they put me on a 3 1/2 year contract on August 9 for $38. On August 26 they billed me $51. I called and asked why. Answer is "that's how they system calculates your September bill, it will go to $38 next month". It's only $13, but if they pull this trick on thousands of customers, they are making real money. I'm not a fan of fraudulent or duplicitous tactics. I did ask for a refund - no go. If I had to do this over, I would have gone with SimpliSafe, Arlo or one of the newer systems. read more

Cancelled ADT 2 weeks ago and after being a customer for 11 years they still said I needed to give them 30 days notice to cancel. The week prior I had been on hold over 90 minutes between 5 calls and was disconnected 3 of those times. I finally got through to them the day Cox was installing our new system and the ADT agent tells me he wished I'd have got ahold of him sooner, he definitely could have lowered our bill, I laughed at that considering they never answer their phones to even give themselves the chance to retain customers. The reason for this review is this, my ADT system was disconnected and unplugged the same day our new system was installed. On 1/29/2022 I got the following email: It looks like your system at 1125 ******* **** is communicating with ADT. ADT is always there to protect the important things in your life. The recent signals in your alarm history are a strong indication that the system is communicating properly with our monitoring centers. Future changes to your phone, cable, satellite, or internet service may disrupt system communications. ADT recommends running a test every 30 days, as well as after any changes. This is really weird considering all the sensors and door alarms as well as the back up battery and the alarm keypad are no longer connected to anything. Either they have really good wireless systems or they are really full of s#!t. I'll let those that read this decide for themselves. read more
