Signed up in May 2021, 3 year contract and was told rate would not go up for length of contract. After 1 year it went up with no notification. Wanted to cancel i could only cancel after I paid up the contract! A month later another company came calling that would pay off ADT if i signed up. I could cancel anytime. A lie of course. I am a 26 year customer of ADT. The service has been poor, changing from an analog connectivity system to digital system a few months after we started and were not informed we had to buy and install a digital antenna. We had frequent system outages and the need to conduct cold restarts. We just canceled our service and only then were we offered a reduction in monitoring fees after asking for them for years. Four and a half years ago I engaged ADT Security for home security services. After having an ADT system installed, I began having multiple problems with the ADT security hardware. On two separate occasions, the system malfunctioned and ordered EMT medical services (ambulance) to my home - once in the morning while I was away from home and a second time at about 9:15pm on a Sunday night. In addition, we've had multiple instances of the alarm sounding in the middle of the night, only to discover that an errant sensor had sounded the alarm. We've been diligent and patient as customers and have followed the advice of ADT's tech support representatives to the letter - including battery changes and other routine maintenance. The system has continued to malfunction anyway. In previous phone calls with ADT, we have been assured that ADT had tracked down the problem and resolved it. We've also been assured that those problems would not happen again. I've been terribly frustrated by the problems with the system and ADT's inability to resolve the issues satisfactorily and permanently. Every incident robs my household of peace-of-mind as well as precious work time dedicated to phone calls with ADT's technical and customer support. I have paid my bill on time every month since the start of our business relationship. I have been courteous and patient with their customer service representatives. I have honored my end of the agreement from the very start. ADT has not. Every call to their customer service representatives is treated like a sales call. I'm only offered solutions that will oblige me to pay them MORE money and extend my contract even further. ADT's customer support apparatus is a frustrating, byzantine phone tree that necessitates multiple callbacks and hold times that often exceed a full hour. Their 'callback' service is unreliable. ADT has failed on multiple occasions to provide reliable, error-free security monitoring services, despite their many promises to the contrary. That puts ADT in breach of contract. They simply are not providing the service I have been paying for. Nor are they providing a remedy to these problems that doesn't cost me additional money. Description of complaint: This has been the absolute most horrific scam and ONLY TIME in my adult life that a so called reputable business has exploited and flat out robbed me. I am 48 years old, a professional and have excellent credit. This company is disgusting. I have been dealing with them for now 2 years and 3 months. We moved to the city and hired them to install a home security system. THE SYSTEM HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. From day one - the system had "bugs." We have placed multiple calls to ADT. The average call wait time is 2 hours. When you call you get passed from department to department and ultimately they tell you they can't help with your request or that a supervisor will call you back and they never do. We have had a technician out to our home at least 5 if not 10 times. Some of the cameras were determined by the technicians to be faulty (despite it being brand new equipment that THEY installed) and were replaced and the cameras STILL malfunctioned. On 12/20/21 ADT technician Trisita documented that "there are definitely times when the cameras are not recording when they normally were recording. They squeeze sometimes and will stop recording for a day or two." On another ADT technician visit that occurred on 11/7/2022 the Technician named John B. wrote in his notes that "We don't know why it doesn't work" and was unable to correct the problem. I have called ADT probably over 75 times. They have done NOTHING except on one occasion they had the nerve to offer me a $44 credit for the cameras not recording On one other time they offered to give me a 3 month credit and I declined (stupidly) because I had hoped the would do more or just let me out of my contract and come get the equipment. I have BEGGED THEM to at least just let me out of the contract to no avail. I have spent probably over 200 or more hours fighting them over the past 2 years with NOTHING to show for it. We have had people attempt to break in, climb over our fence, steal a catalytic converter off car and vandalize our home and less than 10% of it was captured on video. YES our settings are correct! I don't want another tech out to our home!!!!! I want my money back!! Today I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. NEVER use ADT for Business. The worst customer service from top to bottom! The cameras and DVR system almost NEVER worked and when it did it would crash. The cameras were not what I had ordered. My salesman said they were better. But they wouldn't zoom or turn. When I asked to have them removed it took 4 MONTHS to get to the right department after countless calls and emails. I got a 'free offer' with them. When the installer came first she wanted 6500 then lowered to $4,200. I can't afford that especially for a free installation. I had been told I could get a refund - so called their 800 number, round 1 couldn't help me, transfer to Dustin who continued to try to talk me into getting it anyway. I repeated multiple times I wanted my money back. Then he finally put me on hold and never came back. Called back again, once round 1 support now would not transfer me to the department that Dustin worked in. The refund was in process and would take at least 30 day! It doesn't take 30 day to refund to a credit card! And I do not have confirmation number. That was round 1. First off, don't expect to get all of the equipment promised to you when you sign up. I was promised windows, doors, a motion detector, glass break detector and key fab entry. I got the 2 doors, key fabs and a motion detector. When I went to cancel because of everything that went wrong after a few days of trying to work it out, I was told I only had 3 days to rescind the contract. If I wanted out, I had to pay the full value of the contract. When we sold the house, we were told as soon as the new owners activated it, our service would cancel. Within a day or 2, they had called. We have been billed twice since then. Their response was that we had to fax in a copy of our credit card statement and they (ADT) "Will look into it and see if a refund is necessary." We had to put a block against any ADT transaction on the card. Seriously, if you have any other option, DO NOT PICK ADT. UPDATE: It's been 6 weeks since I called to cancel ADT and the new owners of the house I sold took over the service at this house. In that 6 weeks, I have been charged THREE TIMES for a month of service, and now, they're charging me $487 for a cancellation fee they lied and said would be waived once the new owners called and activated service (which they did 2 days after they bought the house). A.D.T. is the epitome of a large company, and they will screw you over in every way they possibly can. UPDATE (5 months later) Yes, you read that correctly. 5 months later, and the headache continues. It has gotten to the point that our credit card company even has ADT on recording TWICE saying we owe nothing, yet I keep getting calls saying I owe them money. This time the reason is, "Oh, you bought it at a 3rd party company and we hadn't notified them of the balance payoff." On Oct 8, 2019 I called to request new internet service from CenturyLink. At the end of the call they asked if I'd be interested in learning about home security through ADT and I said yes, so they transferred me to someone there. I spoke with a woman and agreed to have a sales consultant visit my home on a certain date to discuss options. The sales person on the phone took my credit card info to secure the appt, and then informed me my card had been charged the $99 fee + tax ($106.20) but that I'd get that money back via a Visa gift card after my appt. Up until that point I had not heard any dollar amount, nor had I given her authorization to charge my card (shady). I told her this and she immediately transferred me to a 'supervisor'. I explained what happened and requested a refund and to cancel my appt, and she gave me an 800# to call to cancel (also shady). So I hung up and called that number, and from there was transferred to six different people from ADT/Defenders and no one could help me, and a few defended ADT saying it had been in business for 100+ years, what happened was a standard business practice (SHADY), but most couldn't pull up my info because I had just spoken to someone 10 minutes ago. Eventually I was connected to a gentleman at ADT named Casey who was very sympathetic - he told me that the original supervisor never should have told me to hang up and call a number for a refund. He said my 'acct' belonged to Defenders so he couldn't help me directly but gave me a number to call, and said he'd follow up with me. I called that number and was assured I would see a refund to my credit card. Casey called me to follow up and I told him I was supposed to receive a refund, and we agreed he'd call me on Friday, Oct 11 to confirm I rec'd it. He did call me and left a voicemail, but it is now Oct 14 and the credit has not come through. I called 8006899554 and was told the refund was still pending. In addition to all of this - they performed a HARD INQUIRY affecting my credit score. I'm at my wit's end and furious and will tell everyone I know to stay away from ADT and its partners. read more

Worst company I've done business with. I signed up in 2015 and was offered a $100 visa gift card. I filled out the rebate form (on time) and was told I never sent the form in. So we figured that out and I still never received it. They made a scheduling error and told me for the inconvenience they'd send another $100 visa gift card, which I never received. My sister signed up and never received her gift card and since I referred her I was to receive another $100 visa gift card (which ADT advertises), which I never received. After a year+ of phone calls it still hasn't been taken care of. I had trouble with my system and everything they say they can do is a charge. I've filed a report through the Better Business Bureau and they were unable to contact them. So I'm at a dead end. I recently moved and found out that I was in a 3 year contract vs a 2 year contract which I was told. So I had to pay $700 to cancel my service, because I moved into a home that already had ADT services. My sister will not be renewing her services either. Complete joke! My fiancé and I were a valued customer of ADT home security systems for over two years. I called ADT and informed them that we would be moving and would like to cancel our account with them. No problem. Paid our last bill and moved into our new home and signed up with Comcast home security (which has been cheaper and way better by the way). We have been into our new home for over two months now. Last week we received a letter from a collections agency trying to collect a measly $100.00. I obviously call and investigate. Well apparently ADT sent us a bill to our old address that went unpaid. They never once called us to inform us that we had one final payment due. They irrmmediately sent it to collections. We never once received a phone call about an unpaid balance. I have NEVER once had a late payment with ADT let alone any of our bills. I am dumbfounded that they knew we no longer resided at that billing address yet they sent bills there! Never once gave us a call stating we had an outstanding balance. I am disgusted the way they do business with a dependable valued customer. Do NOT do business with them they don't care about your business and will screw up your credit. My career is in finance so I know how important it is to take care of your bills.
