I have continually had terrible service with ADT. For security itself, the timing of when the alarm went off and the time they called was a half hour so not super fast response. On a regular basis, when I call for help, customer service is super slow. Each phone call has been at least 30 minutes with most of it being waiting on hold. ...The worst yet has been when they are scheduled to come here and show up with the wrong parts, This then means more phone calls where most of my time is on hold and another day where I have to block off time on my schedule. I've been an ADT customer for quite some time and unfortunately, I'm very disappointed with the service. One of my exterior cameras has been out of commission for over a year, and despite continuing to pay for it, nothing has been resolved. The camera is mounted so high that it's completely out of reach for me to troubleshoot on my own. When I finally contacted ADT to request a technician, I was told I'd have to pay over $100 just for someone to come out--before any actual repairs. On top of that, they charge an additional fee for every 15 minutes the technician is there. I already pay a premium for this system, which includes multiple cameras, a booster, and an alarm system, so it's frustrating to feel like support comes with a price tag every step of the way. To make matters worse, the overall system performance is unreliable. The connection is consistently poor, and my doorbell camera only works when it feels like it. For what I'm paying, I expected much better reliability and customer service. Once my contract ends, I'll definitely be switching to a company that's more dependable and puts its customers first. Since zero stars isn't an option..... As many have previously stated, I will also echo that they are EXTREMELY helpful and prompt when you are dealing with the sales dept. However, when you are moving and/or need to cancel it's almost impossible and you can just expect right now to make multiple calls over the course of several days, be on hold for what will amount to hours, have multiple calls "disconnected", and speak with numerous people....all who will tell you a totally different story. What's most awful is that people tend to sign-up for ADT services after a break-in or other reasons concerning safety and then they are also taken advantage of and ripped off by ADT when they move or attempt to cancel services. My situation was being forced into a 3-year contract under the misleading claim that I would be able to transfer services upon moving if the buyer of my home agrees to takeover my contract (they did agree). However, after 15 calls to ADT over the course of 4 days and 228 minutes of speaking to different representatives (this doesn't even factor in the hours on hold and multiple times ADT "disconnected" my calls), I still have no resolution and was forced to pay almost $1000 to pay off my remaining contract. Which even trying to pay off the contract was not a simple process and required multiple calls. They also take 30 days to terminate service, even if you pay your balance, so now you may have a new person/family living in the home with service still in your name. Concerned with the customer service side of ADT. My monitor said i had a low battery. Then i had a couple of sensors that needed a new battery too. Looked at video and had help over the phone without success. i was afraid i was going to break the sensor. Technician scheduled to come. Saw my low battery signal. i purchased a battery thru ADT. It had not arrived yet when technician arrived. Technician had one on his truck. i asked the technician if i could buy one from him and he help me insert battery. Great technician for sure. Now ADT will not take the unopened battery box back. The battery is 45.00. Called to ask to talk to the supervisor. Will call me within 24 hours back. No calls yet. They are happy to come to the phone if you are trying to purchase something! read more

Initial Issues and Resolution Just two days after installation, frustrated with the lack of support and transparency, I decided to cancel the ADT service. Only then did an agent offer to refund the cost of the Nest Hub. I wish I had canceled right then and there. Recurring Technical Problems Three months later, one of the 3-in-1 sensors (smoke, carbon monoxide, and heat) began to emit a "low battery" chirp. Despite replacing the batteries and verifying they were good, the chirping continued. After several calls, an ADT representative finally acknowledged that the unit was defective and sent a replacement. More Issues and Inadequate Support Last week, another 3-in-1 sensor started chirping. I went through the same process of replacing batteries, but the chirping persisted. Multiple calls to ADT led to various agents giving conflicting instructions. One agent suggested removing the batteries and resetting the system, which ultimately caused the alarm to go off and triggered a seizure in one of my dogs. Continued Frustration After another series of calls, I was informed that I would need to pay $160 to replace the defective unit, as the warranty was only 90 days. I refused to pay for something that failed after just five months. An agent attempted to help me remove the unit from the system, but that night, the alarm went off again, triggering another seizure in my dog. Now, I have a non-functional alarm system and am stuck paying $35 a month for the next 2 1/2 years for a service that is more of a headache than a help. Let me start out that, I have been with ADT for over 25 years. Had one of my sensors fail, when I say fail, I mean the sensor came out of the threshold and lay on my floor. System was not working up its full potential. Called Customer Service, spoke with a representative (David) who immediately knew this was out of his pay grade directed me to someone (nameless) else who also couldn't help me without charging me for the visit. Finally spoke with Janais (Janay, sorry for any misspellings), who was a Supervisor. Explained my situation and she immediately took charge and said for being such a longtime customer, there would be no charge for the visit & repair. Scheduled visit was with Fred Hamilton, who was knowledgeable and had the correct part for my door sensor (no modifications). Professional and good to talk with. Took care of my sensor issue and even made sure the whole system was up to speed. Brought back my voice command on the panel, because some power outage had caused it to stop. Overall, pleased that I'm with ADT and they will stand by there products and services. Kudos to those that take pride in there work! read more

Worst customer service. After 15 years i was without service for 5 days. When I tried to cancel, very rude rep kept trying to sell me upgrades. I asked 8 time to cancel, finally hung up after a final request to cancel. Calked yesterday and rep said I wasn't canceled. He said he couldn't help.They continue to bill. They are so screwed up that I had a recent message that my system was communicating with them despite the fact that all the equipment was disconnected a long time ago. Their security service is, in my experience, at least adequate, but their customer service is on a par with AT&T, ComCast, and only slightly better than AHS (Still the undisputed worst.) I would refer to leave a 1.5 star review, but just like their system is set up to disallow any meaningful actions (and silo'd, to make it worse) Yelp won't let me give fractions. I have no sympathy. Today alone, my mother has spent close to four hours on the phone with them (and me for two hours in a three-party call) trying to understand why she's effectively been without service for the last four months. Well, the land line is dead and when they ran their monthly Health and Status check on the hardware they did... nothing. Maybe they called her cell phone, maybe they didn't, but they registered as an unknown user so no one picked up (because it is 2023 and no one picks up unidentified callers) *and they left no voicemail message.* Four five months. What the hell were they going to do if someone triggered the alarm? Not something they wanted to talk about. They charged her money for those months, though, which is not something they wanted to talk about. They told us the cost to upgrade the system with a cell hone system would be $250. But that guy couldn't actually, you now, do anything useful. Couldn't start the process, couldn't transfer us, etc. So my mother calls another number and they upsell her to an $800 dollar system which is absolutely not what she wanted. That took about an hour, and then another three way call where I undid all that, which of course took another half an hour. Then she gets told, no, what you want isn't $250, it's $375. Why the discrepancy? No idea, barely admitted it. The numbers are what the number are. Oh, can we discount the five months of no service we had? Maybe, but not with that person. How do we do that? We have to schedule the visit and then transfer to a different department. Why? Because the system is transparently designed not to let anyone do anything without incurring another huge wait on hold, hoping you'll give up. But in this case, it was worse, because she scheduled the visit for us, then my mother decided she wanted a different time, which means phone person had to cancel the existing appointment (makes sense) but for some reason couldn't re-schedule it. Why? No idea. just can't. (Oh, and we had to prepay for the hardware. That was fun. Took three times. Somehow, probably because of the three way call, the credit card system only listened to me, not my mother. Unbelievably stupid.) So she promises to make that reschedule, which we have no idea happened and probably won't. It's 4:45 at this point, and she dumps us off to Customer Service to plead our case about a refund for the five months of missing service. And the phone rings four times and goes silent. We waited another 20 minutes, to 5:05 PM, and made the rational assumption that everyone went home at or before the time we got transferred, so now we have no idea how much anything costs, when anyone is coming, if they're going to come, and what they are going to install. This is not accidental incompetence. This is the same deliberate incompetence designed into AT&T and American Home Shield and Comcast. I don't now how any of these people get out of bed in the morning, knowing that their working day will be a solid eight hours of personal shame, wasting peoples' time and providing no service at all. Without permission they auto sign your name to documents you have no knowledge of until after the fact, blaming such breech of trust on Covid no touch. Big contract red flag is their leaving blanks on line amounts and preprinting "Y" (yes) next to customer responsible for providing ADT a local emergency permit registration number for alarm dispatch to police & fire (or no response may be sent plus you may be fined. Salesman said "trust me we take care of that". However ADT corporate reiterated written terms. Why pay for pro monitoring with no response? Salesman was stingy avoiding providing number of devices advertised. Optioning to cancel contract within 3 days due to 10 pages of autosigned unagreeable contract terms resulted in major holes left in wall and above door to repair. Pro install is not better when they create gaping holes in your home. What's the point in having a contract for professional mothering when they're not liable to dispatch police response per contract? Plus ADT entitles itself to unexpected contract and equipment upcharges to beware of. Now pending refund. Thankfully used a virtual account number to avoid unwanted additional charges. I have a personal account and a business account with ADT. Caveat emptor .. My business was broken into while their system was down and I was not alerted until 40 minutes later AFTER the burglar had left with damage to the property and was able to get a big safe out of the premises. Because I have a contract I am bound to complete the contract so tonight I called stating that there was a error in setting the alarm again and the same thing happened the night before and tonight I called with the same problem and they informed me that in order to send out a technician to check why the equipment is malfunctioning it will be a trip charge and a service fee . BEFORE you enter into a contract research and go with other providers like SimpliSafe a company I used while I was in the rehab process and NEVER had a problem . It was an attempt at a burglary during rehab and the police caught the suspects and I just wish I did not make the decision to use ADT because they were a bigger company . How does an outfit like this have this totally undeserved reputation of 'The' place to go for home security. Upon installation they collapsed my drop ceiling and left the mess there, all over the office where I put the control center. They paid for the repair however I had to chase that down and the key is the customer service, just leaving the mess. 4K for the system, 35 dollars a month for what I am not sure, this is cameras only not monitoring. There support is dismal, take offence that I point out Tier 3 should not have to read a script/manual to trouble shoot, that is Tier 1. They become defensive, with a take it or leave it attitude. The support today - the MOBIL APP lost connectivity, the tech did not know how to find the product ID a mandatory field in the set up. Insisted the QR code was accessed by an icon at the bottom of the screen. Not so and they were unable to find it. That was all they could do for a mobile app issue and said they would need to send a tech out, soonest appointment? ONE WEEK! So cannot use the system I am paying for for a week?? Act of God to get the tech to send me to account management. When I did, same story 1 week. For this issue I spend 2hrs and 20 minutes. I accepted the 1 week but asked to be put back in the queue, perhaps I would get someone who knew the basics. Every time I was put on hold 20-30 minutes I had to endure repeated advertisement for other services, the entire hold time, every second. Got the 2nd tech and could not find the QR code either. Was telling me to do things that did not match the same interface I was looking at, to look for the QR code, to admin login etc.. Asked me to go to setting and network and bingo, there, found by accident the QR code. Used it to try to reestablish mobile connectivity, still no go. While the tech went back to reading the manual I decided to reboot the system while waiting for them to guess at a solution. Bingo again, after the reboot, scanned the QR code and the mobile app back online. 2 hours and 20 minutes only for the customer (ME!) to resolve the problem. When I tried to reach back to Mr. Ronnie in account management, if you had not already guessed, he could not be reached. Was told he would call me back in 3-5 minutes. 2 hour later I called to ask if he was even aware I was trying to contact him, ADT had no answer. I have been an ADT customer for 15+ years and have their security systems at 14 of my buildings. I used to be a happy customer but the ADT culture has gone South. Today is NOT the first time that I have had to waste the better part of the day waiting for the service technician to arrive. The appointment to repair my doorbell camera was scheduled for today (10/04/2022 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. At 2:30pm today I called ADT to confirm my appointment and after the operator checked with the technician, I was told that I was the technician's next stop. At 3:00pm I receive a friendly call from my service representative, Joe Solomon, that he had just heard that my appointment had been changed (without notice or my agreement) to 4:00-8:00pm. They dishonored a service contract which included repair at our location and charged in excess of $400 for a service call without making any repairs. I don't have the patience for this type of service. Of course I am trying to cancel and removed most of their equipment already. Just bought similar system with another company. It is way better customer service, but I only needed them once so far. I cannot even find a decent copy of the contract. It was scanned with start date and not much more information. Wait time has been over 30 minutes every time with no option for them to call back. I'm supposed to sit and wait for someone to answer? Instead I tried the Chat option. When I entered it said 35 chats ahead of me. I sat and watched it increase to 36...37...38...39. How is my place in the Chat line getting worse? Wow I just came on here to put a zero star review and so far seems like that is what everyone thinks based on the others reviews. They are 100% correct. Terrible sales guy. Smelled like he smoked a pack of cigarettes before walking in...no mask..trying to sell crap we didn't even want..tells dumb stories... I thought the installers were ok until the rude guy yesterday. Absolute jerk. So our previous owner had adt so the sales guy Phillip is like yeah we can use what they had yada yada well that didn't happen. Had to install all this other garbage. Sales guy Phillip is like yeah I will stop by you know those guys try to sell you on stuff too and they have different prices...oh conviently Phillip had a death that day...pretty convienient...the installer guy told us only 1 sales guy comes to the installation and the others never do. My side of the garage door wouldn't close with my remote. I had to go inside shut it and go out the door. Also the keypad stopped working...ironically coincidental??? We call act and the jerk that comes out yesterday tells me no its not our system its a coincidence and its not the adt system. Its not a related issue. I told him its very annoying with 2 kids to have to run back to close the garage door... This jerk doesn't look at anything tells me he is closing the ticket...great cs thanks adt. That's how you want to treat your new customers!!! That's awesome...will send all my friends your way! Then we had Aladdin garage doors come out today because its a pain having to run inside every time I need to close the garage! he told me there is a signal coming from somewhere and its absolutely bec of their system bec it was not letting him program the new remote. We had to replace the liftmaster and get a new keypad and opener!!! So now we are in another $800!!! ADT is pure garbage. I would say use anyone else or just take your chances with a baseball bat for security. Our new house already had ADT installed and we needed it activated to qualify for a cheaper homeowners policy. Sales guy "Phil" came and smelled like cigarettes...sweaty and just pretty much a mess. He tried to sell us on a bunch of garbage that I told him from the beginning that I did not need. Finally got it worked out and he said the installation guys will be there that weekend. He also said that he would try and stop by just to make sure everything went smoothly. Well sure enough he was not there on the installation day and the installation guy said that the salesman was an idiot. All of the pre-installed items needed to be replaced and pretty much everything had to be redone. Also the login code that I needed in order to activate my system wouldn't work and it turns out that the idiot salesman never gave it to the company to upload it. He had me trying to login for an entire week when his stupid you know what hadn't done his job to make sure they had everything they needed. But don't worry it gets worse. After they finished installing the system, our garage door openers stopped working! We called ADT to come and take a look at it and over the phone the lady tried to tell me that it was not their problem... it was to our defective garage door openers. After arguing with her for 10 minutes she finally agreed to send over an ADT tech. The tech comes in for two minutes looks around and says this is not some thing he can fix...it had to of been the defective garage door openers and left. I had LiftMaster come and install a new garage door opener and the installation tech told me that without a doubt when they switched our system from a wired to a wireless system, the new wireless frequency was interfering with the garage door and that is why the garage doors were not working. He said he had to switch the new garage opener to a different frequency to make it all work. I had asked ADT from the beginning to send the original installation tech but they sent the guy who could care less. The original guy is coming tomorrow because I think he feels bad, but needless to say, getting this system from ADT has cost me an extra $800 for a new garage door opener and countless hours waiting for their stupid tech "Piotr" to show up. Save your money and use ANYONE else unless you hate your money and enjoy watching people break your sh*t and then tell you it broke because it's old. read more

Bait and switch!!!! You have been warned. Set up an appointment to have a hone security monitoring and camera system installed. I explained to the person on the phone what I was looking for in a system. They quoted me a monthly rate and told me it was $99 to have my system installed and I gave them a credit card over the phone. Install guy comes out the day of installation and tells me I need another $1200+ in equipment plus a $299 activation charge, he blamed it on the salesperson I spoke to on the phone even though I reiterated everything with salesperson on the phone and made it clear what I was looking for and she again quoted me the same $99 install price for the entire system and cameras at each exterior entrance to my home. Then like that the sales guy dropped the equipment charge to about half, then after I still said no he dropped it again to zero but kept the $299 installation fee. By this time the guy had been in my home about 2 hours. I asked him to leave and he then called his supervisor and magically the $299 waived but by this time I had just wasted nearly 2.5 hours of my life and had such a bad taste in my mouth I said no deal and insisted he leave. Then he gave me a sob story about how we only gets paid for doing the install and I caused him to work for free today...oh well buddy, don't play friggin games with people then buddy. DO NOT USE ADT!!! This was one of the worst experiences with a company in my entire life. To add insult to injury the first thing he does when he arrived at my home is screw a control panel to my wall, then after that he hits you with the upselling BS. I was a customer for 13 years bc it was installed in the place I bought and just easier to keep using. It's been impossible to cancel the service. An hour and a half call, jerking me around, now calls from ADT Corporate. I quit bc the alarm equipment was out of date and it was going to cost me a lot to get new equipment - a lot more than competitors. Of course once I demanded to quit they started finding ways to make it affordable or free. But they don't like their customers well enough to start there. And they wouldn't cancel until I told them I was on the state AG's office filing a consumer complaint. Shady practices, shady business. read more

Would like to pile on all these other bad reviews. Writing from my phone and in a rage so buckle up: ADT are the real thieves you should fight to keep out of your house. They refuse to return the installation fees for two systems that were never installed. Better yet, they spam you everyday to see why you aren't getting the units installed. I've told no less than 5 people why. ADT, stop being such a clingy loser. The most recent guy called from some Hinsdale number and after bad mouthing Brinks (who were great to work with) he didn't address my request to get my installation fees returned and then hung up on me... hence this review. We've been an ADT customer since we purchased our home in 2010. I we received a letter from ADT stating that our equipment was antiquated, And call them for an upgrade to the more modern equipment. When the rep showed up, he moved immediately into a sales pitch. He told us that we would have to call ADT if we wanted to have our equipment upgraded to the more modern equipment. We explained that that was what he was therefore he said he knew nothing about it. We called ADT to clarify the matter after 20 minutes on hold they told us that we would have to call another number to schedule an appointment. With customer service this poor I don't think I could trust our security to ADT. read more

ADT is extremally hard to get a hold of, I've waited for over 1-hour to speak to a customer service rep. They have no customer service on the weekends and their service calls are scheduled with a 4-hour window. Would NEVER recommend ADT! I will get rid of them as soon as my contract is over. read more
