The system was not fully operational since some sensors fell off the windows. All we wanted was a tech to come and fix the system. Also, the control panel was dark. The customer service representative convinced my wife to the repair herself. Big mistake!! The system started an unbelievable high pitch noise. We couldn't stop it. The rep kept giving us instructions. That would stop the noise for a few minutes then it would start again. We hate disconnect the panel from the wall. Unplug the power and put the system on test. CANCELLING: ADT will cancel your account, but leave you with an active system and no documentation how to disable it. Rep said it would only chime if sensors were triggered. Two months later (at midnight), the keypad began making the familiar open-sensor chime. Scared the heck out of me. This happened 2 different nights. I called for advice how to disable the power (without electrician), rep said there was a "large white plug somewhere". I get not being happy people cancel, but offer some info about shutting down a hard-wired system. UPGRADE: 6 years in, my system lacked the new technology and the cost to upgrade was as much as initial install. SERVICE: Monthly charges kept going up ($85/mo) despite my older system with few tech options and no improvement to service. ADT is a remarkably dishonest company. I would discourage in the strongest terms anyone trusting anything their representatives have to say. This may not be the representatives faults but likely pressure based on company policy to force sales and account retention. I asked for my account to be cancelled after switching security providers due to the unacceptable costs to update my equipment and rising monthly costs. Instead, against my instructions, a two month hold was placed on my account followed by the resumption of charges for services I was not receiving. I attempted to have those charges reversed or refunded and was given the unacceptable explanation that the charges were legitimate even though no services or monitoring were delivered. ADT had fraudulent and deceitful business practices and significant caution should be paid to any interaction with their representatives. UPDATE. One day later I was contacted as outlined below almost immediately after I also filed a Google Review and a Better Business Bureau review after reading more comments similar to my experience. I have been offered an apology and a refund. I will update this review further after I actually receive the refund. I remain very concerned about the interaction with the representative especially as I requested two times to speak with someone else who could assist me. They instead spoke over me, didn't allow me any further input and, in my opinion, are following a sales and retention script that assumes more often than not the customer will not choose to take the route I did. UPDATE: After complaining to BBB ADT credited us a month's fee for the inconvenience they caused us by losing our permit number. So im changing to 3 stars. Original complaint below. We have had ADT installed in our house in 2018 And have been paying them from 5 years. Our alarm went off few days ago. I was not at home and could not reach my Spouse. So I had the ADT call the cops and Adt says cops are not coming because ADT does not have our permit number. So, i call the police department in my city, And the police who is chief of Alarm permits division looks up my address and says we have the permit and ADT is supposed to call 911 directly and they did not. So after paying these guys for 5 years, when the actual situation demands that they take care of their responsibility, they bail on us, by telling us that we don't have alarm permit! But that cannot be true because once before they called the cops when Alarm went off, just fine and that means they had the permit number. This is unacceptable. I am looking to go to other provider. Peace of Mind or Piece of Mine... When I woke up this morning, one of the items on my list was to cancel my ADT subscription. It should have been simple and when done, that's all there would have been to it. Nothing personal, just business. But after the experience I just had with the Cancellation Contact Center, I will spend the rest of the day if necessary telling the story of what happened and how a company can be so greedy and callous, they would kick a grieving widower when he's down. I've been paying roughly $60/mo for almost 10yrs. Our household rarely uses the alarm and we have a well-trained dog. The town we live in has one of the lowest property crime rates in CA. Our town spends over 30% of its budget on police and fire with all homes within 5 min of a fire station with the exception of a small, sparsely populated section (they're 8 mins away). The savings on my homeowner's policy is a meager $27 per year. At one point I traveled for work and was gone a lot. The system was for my wife's peace of mind, even though she never used it. The current system has a ring doorbell that I have to frequently change batteries and nothing is integrated. My thermostats, alarm and doorbell are all separate. I was willing to entertain an upgrade to the newest system ADT offers and tried to get info from the sales center. However, they (somewhat understandably) suggested a visit from an in-home consultant. Tim gave me a proposal and included a discount that would cost me ~$1200 to install a new control pad and get 2 Google Nest thermostats and a doorbell. Then the rate would be $68/mo. Considering the markup on the Google Nest (compared to purchasing product from Google or another retailer) and the increase in the monthly service, the Price vs. Value proposition wasn't there. A simple beans and bullets calculation - it wasn't worth the money for me. So I called the Cancellation Center and was connected with Brittany (Brittney?). I explained I wanted to cancel and she stated she'd need to ask me some questions, which I understood from my own professional life to mean she would try to overcome my objections and keep me as a client. Totally understandable - just business. She asked me questions like - Am I aware the police won't be contacted by ADT, etc. I stated I understood and explained my financial calculus and wanted to proceed anyway. I asked that we skip the sales pitch as I had already done my due diligence. Brittany said yes, put me on hold and came back to take another run at getting me to stay, this time regurgitating reasons that I had already said I don't see value in including the non-existent homeowners policy savings. Now beginning to become frustrated, I explained that in addition to the financial reasons for cancellation, I had some personal reasons - my wife died at home recently. While ADT wasn't at fault, in fact had nothing to do with her death, it also didn't help. ADT wasn't who she turned to in her final moments and it wasn't my first go-to when I found her unresponsive in our home. I asked, almost pleading that she skip the sales pitch and just help me close this chapter so I can move on. I told her I understood she was just doing her job, but implored her to not continue this line of questions, even offering her the time she needed if she needed to get a manager to override her script requirements. She said she understood, put me on hold. When she came back she took yet another run at me. This time asking if I understood I was risking the treasures I have in my home. Brittany, and by extension ADT - I have lost the greatest treasure I could ever have. My wife is gone. All of the gold in King Solomon's mine pales in comparison to the value she had. My TV can be easily replaced. My wife can't. Are you so callous you can't get that? Is that one transaction so important you can lose your humanity? Are you so rigid with your workforce that you won't empower them to do the right thing? I never raised my voice. I never shouted or screamed demanding a manager. No cussing. Just an appeal to help me and let me move on from this call. I begged one more time just to process the cancellation and ask me no more questions. Brittany said she understood, put me on hold, came back to tell me my cancellation was being processed and then proceeded with the old "If I could, would ya" line that I've heard used countless times in my decades long career in the auto industry. Just like at Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe Auto Sales. And her pitch? "You were paying $60/mo, what if I could bring it down to $28/mo?"! You're not going to take a loss on a subscription which means you've got more than $32 working in the profit on this subscription. How long have I been paying you?! It is my hope but not my expectation, that ADT's LND and Workforce Management pulls this call and reviews it for quality control like the disclaimer says. Shame on you read more

ADT sent Jeff Simon out to our home, and it was the worst experience ever for service. He didn't introduce his self. Did explain what he was doing and why he was there. Didn't explain how the visit would go. ADT replaced a panel one month ago and now the existing one is out (radio issue in the device. He replaced it and then one camera was not working and ripped out the cable and he didn't have the equipment. So, the last worst part is that he automatically charged our on-file credit that is use for ADT monthly payment to charge us 310 dollars. FOR WHAT!! he broke the cable ADT put fault equipment in and he left our property and now wants to charge us for all of that. When I signed up for adt services, I was a senior citizen in an unsafe living situation. I feel that I was taken advantage. I lived alone and they assured me that I would be safer because they would be looking at the cameras if anything happen. I have made it clear, during this dispute, that I want them to waive any termination fees and reverse/ remove any charges not paid, and I asked them not to report this account while we are in a dispute. None of this has been done. I was told the adt would monitor the two Google cameras that I purchased. They do not monitor Google cameras. The cameras broke in less than 24 hours after installation. I continued to have problems. I no longer live in the usa. . Bunch of criminals. 2 years ago I moved to a new house. I was in a contract with ADT and when I moved I was told that my ADT service was going to be canceled but I would have to enter into a new contract at my new house l, which I agreed to do and I would get a free equipment install with the new contract. I received an emergency call from my previous residence which prompted me to call ADT. Come to find out I was paying for two alarm systems. This is partly my fault because I did not check specifically for ADT charges because I had no reason to think there was a mistake. I called ADT in mid December and explained their mistake in not canceling. They said they would back pay me 12 months and I argued it was their fault they did not cancel. I was transferred to another person who agreed to back pay me 22 months. Fast forward to the end of the first week in January. I called to inquire about the account because I had been charged again for the house I don't live in. The lady I spoke with said there was no record of a refund processed nor was there a record of a cancellation, but there was a record of me calling a speaking to customer service regarding a billing inquiry. The refund was finally processed for 22 months. But I still have to pay for the equipment at my old house which is ridiculous because that's not what I was told when I moved and I would never agree to something like that. Summary: They emailed the contract to me and I responded on the same day stating the issues that I have been experiencing (no videos with notifications, issues verifying my google account, when I receive videos they are not in real time) and the agent responded on the same day asking for my contact which I provided but they took 4 days to get back to me. I sent an email each day for 3 days for ADT to now say that I am outside of the 3 day customer regret phase and I will have to pay a penalty of $1500 even though they took 4 DAYS to respond and another 3 weeks of agents trying to fix the issue for me virtually. The agent also added that they have no record of the emails and calls and even though I offered to forward to them they insist that I have to pay the penalty. Signed up for service due to what seemed like a great deal - "free" Google camera, thermostat, etc. 18 months in...i will never deal with ADT again. Some of the equipment (the thermostat) never got installed, just sat here. Orignal tech left to get a part...and never returned or called back. Apparently there was a timeframe attached to that since it was a completely different company representing ADT and using their name and equipment. So the company installing your equipment and signing you up may not be ADT - they just sell your contract to ADT. ADT did come out to install after numerous long calls and chats, for the low low price of $232...to install equipment on my original contract. They have also raised the rate with no notification. Their customer service is horrible - passed around today only to get disconnected and had to start again. Any, then there's the 3-year contract. 3. Years. Decide you don't like their services or rate hikes...no problem, just pay 75% of your contract and you're out! This has been an eye-opening less - read reviews folks. There is a reason ADT sits with 1 Star reviews across BBB, Yelp, and others. I used Fleenor at my first home and had no issues. Don't fall for the "free" equipment bundle trick as I did. At over $2500 for the first year, plus initial fees and "upsells" on some of the equipment - nothing is free. Installing technician says our doorbell is failing because we have faulty electricity. This company is the most unprofessional, inept, poorly run and outright impossible to work with, company I have come across in a long while. I have been with ADT for more than 10 years. When we moved to a new house, back in 2015, they said they would move with us and come set up our same system here. A salesman came out, and sold us the cheapest system they had, that was meant for an apartment, instead of the wired system we had before. Finally, we were able to get someone out to install the correct system for our house, and this was nothing short of a miracle. Everytime you call, you can't understand the people on the phone, either because of an accent, or the horrible connection their phone system has. Not to mention the hold times. And all of this was pre-COVID, so no excuse there. Aside from being completely rude and inappropriate on the phone while I was cancelling service, they didn't even cancel the service as they said and continued billing me after I revoked my ACH(and refused to provide proof I'd done so). All after waiting on a 28 minute hold only to be disconnected, by their side, and being told I'd just have to wait again; an hour on hold to be treated like dirt by the account manager. Now I must wait until Monday, to speak to , "Account Services", who, of course isn't there on the weekend, to find out about this cancellation that never occurred. I was also told that my contract states I have to give 30 days notice to cancel. I haven't had a contract with them since the last one ended in 2019, thus my rates have skyrocketed in the last few years. In the meantime, I get a call at 7:15 AM this lovely Sunday morning, asking if there's a power outage or something, because my alarm is showing no AC power. Now, could that be because that charming account manager, who "cancelled" my account September 1st, told me to power down the system at the end of September, so we wouldn't be billed a "maintenance fee"??? Why yes, it was. And thank you, for walking us up, 10 days after we powered down the alarm. I'm sure if it was an actual emergency, you would have been RIGHT on top of it!! ADT has been charging me for a system/monitering for 3 years.ADT sent me an email last month saying my alarm was not sending a signal to them.For 3 years ADT called 100s times demanding payment for an alarm they knew was not working.I have paid for service the past 3 years for an alarm that was not even hooked to anything.The ADT customer service is terrible...NO follow-up ever on anything,but we want our money. Its time these big companies started caring about the very people that keep them open.One star for security is not acceptable.ADTs answer to my complaints is cancel your system if you dont like it. I have been a loyal ADT customer for almost 8 years and a few days ago my Carbon Monoxide Unit went out(I have had it for almost 8 years and was told they should be replaced after 5 years) The cost of a new unit is $100 and to have a tech come out is $60. When I asked for any kind of break I was told no even though 8 years to be with a company is a long time. I guess there is no such thing as loyalty from there side. I upgraded our system from the ADT Pulse which suddenly stopped working to GoogleNest/ADT. When I try to schedule a technician they claim they show up and state they try to call me using my gate key pad, not my phone. When I tried to cancel the add on after waiting 6 hours and given several stories as to why they did not come, they have not refunded my money and after 10 business days, no one has called. ADT has on record that their supervisors have called me and left voicemails but not according to the records on my iPhone. I was told over 10 business days that several different departments were to call me and be responsible for the refund, but they kept punting me around like a ping pong ball and still no refund. Use a different company for security. They do not exactly give off secure vibes. read more
