Starting from the front desk person "Eli" needs extra training, she is just in her world gossiping while Checking patients in and not verifying things correctly. After checking in, the front desk told me everything was fine and to have a seat. Once we were called in, they checked my daughter's height, weight, vision, hearing, and blood pressure, then sent us to the room. When the doctor came in and I explained what the visit was for, she noticed they had me listed as self-pay -- even though I had uploaded my insurance card and provided all the insurance info. Turns out, they were trying to charge me as self-pay because they said they don't take my insurance, even though the provider is listed on my insurance card, in the insurance portal, and in the insurance directory. After about 30 minutes, someone named Eli came to tell me again that they don't accept it, and that both the office manager and billing manager were out. I was told the billing manager would call me when she returns (still waiting). Overall, I wasted over an hour for no reason -- this could've easily been avoided if they'd verified my insurance properly at check-in.

Not only is this unnecessary, she is putting our healthy babies at risk of catching something from another sick child simply by sitting in the waiting room. (We waited THREE HOURS with a 6 month old). She obviously only wants to see babies frequently so she can bill our insurance while not caring that she's putting their health at risk. Anyway, during our first visit she touched my son's penis without wearing gloves and his uncircumcised tip was red for a few days afterwards which I was very upset about. I didn't want to go back after that but she has such good reviews I wanted to give her another chance. There are not many vax friendly pediatricians and she knows that and tries to take advantage of this fact. 2 months later we took my son for a sick visit. She demanded that we owed her a co pay for the well visit 2 months PRIOR (??) even though at the time she said we did not owe her anything. When I told her I don't have a co pay for well visits, she lied and said that she called the insurance company that day & they "changed their rules" and then also mumbled something about the insurance company not paying her enough. I don't know why that has anything to do me. I pay monthly for my coverage . That's not my problem if the insurance company is not paying you what you want. I reluctantly paid her (she's cash only btw, another red flag ) and told her I was going to call my insurance company to check. After my visit, I called my insurance company and they confirmed that I did NOT owe her a co pay and they even placed me on hold while they called her to let her know that she was wrong. The following day, I called Dr Vargas and asked her to please refund me and she said that she would mail me a check. Five weeks later and I still did not receive the check. My husband then called her to ask where the check was. She got very defensive and told him that she had to call the insurance company to make sure we did not owe her money (which was nonsense as I just said the insurance company already called her). She never had any intention on mailing me the check. My husband ended up stopping by her office to pick up the check and she told him to find a new pediatrician (which we already did). I guess she's mad that she was unable to take advantage of us. Do not settle for this doctor simply bc she's vax friendly. On facebook there is a group called Miami Crunchy Moms, and they will help you find a legitimate pediatrician who is.

She prescribes medicine when appropriate, looks into all the weird questions my wife and I might come up with and so on. And she does this well. But the thing I enjoy most about Dr. Vazquez' practice is her down to earth nature. She is an encourager and takes the time to hear our concerns without us feeling rushed. This is perhaps her greatest strength in my experience. She goes out of her way to make sure that we feel confident and to let us know that we are on the right track. I have really appreciated this from her; its comforting to know that your doctor is rooting for you. At times we have felt that the wait is longer than it should be, but after noticing that Dr. Vazquez is present enough to hear our concerns and addresses them without rushing allows me to see this as a wash and a necessary cost for individualized care.

I brought my son to the office on 9/24 because I was concerned he had croup, which was confirmed by his doctor . I was told that if he was not doing better the following day, I should bring him back for an injection. The next day, he had been unable to keep his prescribed prednisolone down, and later that afternoon, after waking from his nap around 4:00 p.m., I became concerned about his symptoms again. Before calling the office, I specifically checked the office hours online because I wanted to make sure they were still open. The hours showed that the office was open until 5:00 p.m. I was not aware that they stopped accepting patients at 3:30 p.m., so I called at approximately 4:00 p.m. because I genuinely believed I still had time to bring my son in. When I called, I explained the situation and that he had not been able to keep his medication down. I understood that my sons doctor was not in the office that afternoon, and I was completely willing to speak with the doctor who was there. I would have been willing to wait just to speak with them and explain what was happening with my son. The front desk did give me the options of making an appointment for Monday or taking my son to urgent care. I understand that the office has policies regarding when they stop accepting patients, and I understand that they may not have been able to see him at that time. However, I was disappointed that I was not given the opportunity to speak with the doctor who was present. What was especially upsetting to me was that, instead of my one-year-old being evaluated by a doctor who was already in the office, I was directed to take him to urgent care. I ultimately followed that advice and took my one-year-old to urgent care, where we were there from approximately 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. As a mother, having to spend approximately four hours at urgent care with a sick one-year-old was extremely difficult. I understand that sometimes urgent care is necessary, but in this situation, I couldn't help but feel as though the responsibility for my son's care had simply been passed on to urgent care. It left me feeling like, once the office couldn't see him, it was no longer their problem. I am not saying that was the office's intention, but that is genuinely how the experience made me feel. There is also another concern I want to mention. In addition to prednisolone, my son was prescribed budesonide. When we went to urgent care, I was advised to follow up with his pediatrician regarding why budesonide had been prescribed for him and to discuss his treatment plan. The urgent-care provider specifically raised a question about the medication and told me to follow up with his pediatrician regarding whether albuterol was more appropriate for his croup symptoms. After this experience, I ultimately decided to change pediatricians. When I discussed my son's treatment with his new pediatrician, they also questioned why he had been prescribed budesonide. I am not a medical professional, so I am not claiming that the medication prescribed was wrong. I am simply sharing what I was told by the providers who subsequently evaluated my son and why this added to my concerns as a parent. I am not someone who takes my child to the doctor for every little illness. I called because I was genuinely worried about my son, especially since he had been diagnosed with croup and was unable to keep his medication down. I wasn't calling for no reason. I was calling because I felt he needed medical attention and I was looking for guidance. I also want to explain why I am taking the time to leave this review. As a mother, when I was looking for a pediatrician for my children, one of the first things I did was read through reviews from other parents. Those reviews helped me make decisions about who I felt comfortable trusting with my children's care. I hope that by sharing my experience, this review can also help another parent make an informed decision when choosing a pediatrician for their child. I truly believe that parents deserve to feel heard and supported when they call their child's doctor's office, especially when they are worried about their kid who is sick. I took my grandson yesterday for drs appointment and the lady behind the glass, Carmen, was the only thing I encountered. As per Carmen, my appointment never existed, even after my son confirmed twice before I arrived. She asked me who the patient was and before I even said my grandson's name, she cut me off and told me there was no dr at the office. I proceeded to try and talk with her and she left me talking by myself and went into the back where I could not see her. When I called for her, she rudely yelled at me that she was on the phone. Carmen is the rudest receptionist I have encountered in this city where customer service is a top priority. Carmen should not be a receptionist, nor work with people, and certainly not be the initial contact with the public for your office. While sharing this experience with my son, it's clear that Carmen was not having a bad day, this is her usual self. I was appalled at the way I was treated. No one should ever be addressed the way Carmen spoke to me. Perhaps a playback of her video dealing with me could be a great way to teach her how to deal with patients. Whenever we get called in the nurses are very kind and interactive with my child which put me at ease cause I'm already worried about my child's ailment.
