The 3rd quoted was from Tom of Oak Design and it was $35,000 and I was responsible for purchasing all materials (in addition to the $35,000). Wow, you can imagine I was at a loss. When I exchanged emails asking for clarification, Tom explained "We are a larger firm with a larger overhead." We've remodeled several homes in Chicago, Fort Meyers and The Woodlands, TX and we used licensed, Bonded, Insured larger firms and we've never had such a discrepancy in bids. Granite this is a smaller job, but if they didn't want the job, why waste our time and theirs. I should mention the company did a large job for my wife's sorority sister so we assumed a fair quote. But at the next meeting, only one Tom showed up (the other Tom was confused by this, and said that it seemed perhaps his partner had "slept late"). So needless to say, I didnt move forward with them, but perhaps if I had they would have been more profiessional, and done good work.

I can't recommend Welkin Construction enough. I had been dealing with a frustrating, ongoing issue…read morewhere my upstairs stand-up shower was slowly dripping through my kitchen ceiling below. I had already paid a plumber a significant amount of money for a leak inspection and "repair," only to find out the problem was never actually fixed. I even had one contractor tell me I needed a full bathroom renovation on a house that was only built in 2018. A clear overzealous attempt at a money grab. I found Welkin Construction almost by chance while getting quotes, and I'm extremely glad I did. From the beginning, they were honest, upfront, and professional. Instead of trying to sell me an unnecessary renovation, they took the time to properly diagnose the issue and fix the actual problem. Their team carefully caulked and resealed the shower, removed bathroom tile, replaced damaged subflooring, cut and installed new tile, repaired the hole in my kitchen ceiling, and repainted the kitchen -- all with excellent attention to detail. The quality of the work was outstanding, and the price was more than reasonable compared to the other options I was given. The owner is a genuinely nice and professional guy and his team was efficient, respectful, kind, and clearly took pride in their work. It's rare to find contractors who are this honest and dependable. Save yourself the time, frustration, and unnecessary expenses -- give Welkin Construction a call. They've earned my trust and will absolutely be my go-to company for future projects. Highly recommend!

My husband and I moved into a 2-bedroom condo in desperate need of an overhaul, and our designer recommended Mike for our major renovation projects. Mike came in, listened to all our needs and took copious notes. We had a complete estimate for everything within a few days of our meeting, including cost and time frames for: - hardwood floor install in 2 rooms; - hardwood floor repair for the rest of the apartment; - tile install for the foyer; - fireplace tile surround plus fireplace repainted; - entire condo repainting, including ceilings and exposed ductwork, and; - complete kitchen remodel. The work was done on time and within budget, even with the inevitable surprises that always come up during reno projects. The crew was punctual, efficient, always respectful and very neat. Zack came in to manage our tile projects, and both he & Mike were obsessive about details; our foyer has a concrete column that required a curved cut on our tile floor - and it is literally perfect thanks to their attention. We're planning our bathroom remodel in the next year, and I've already got Mike on speed-dial.

We did meet with a couple other contractors initially just to be thorough, but were very impressed with Mike and Zack at BC at our first meeting, and continued to be throughout the entire project. We live in an old victorian and have practically remodeled the entire interior. BC has by far been the best contractors we've used in the 9 years we've been here: - The final budget was very close to their quote; - When there were discrepancies, they explained why and always asked permission beforehand to do the work; - They updated us weekly on ongoing costs (Mike is a former financial analyst so I received a nicely formatted Excel spreadsheet each week :) - Their sub-contractors were all very good (they mentioned they've "curated" their subs until they've found the best ones and I believe it - from painters to electrical, they were excellent) - They were obsessive about a clean work site, especially at the end of the day when they left - Very trustworthy; we left them alone in our house extensively, gave them a key, and never had an issue And most importantly, the quality of their work is fantastic. With other contractors, it has always felt like 80% or 90% of the work was good, but there were these little issues at the end of the job that gnawed at you later. Not with these guys. They either do the work beautifully the first time, or if there is an issue, they correct it. They're a little OCD themselves, so you don't have to be all over them constantly. And when they don't feel like they have clear direction, instead of making assumptions and moving ahead, they always asked what to do, which was appreciated. Mike and Zack and their entire crew were also just good guys and a pleasure to be around. Overall I obviously can't say enough about BC. They're not for your handyman type projects, but if you have major renovations like bathrooms, basements, kitchens, custom decks, etc. I would strongly consider them.
