I've been wanting to try the new physical location for Adobo Boy soooo badly and they did NOT disappoint! I've been following Adobo Boy's food truck for years and Ace and his family are highlights in the community for uplifting and recognizing Asian voices and culture. Everything he does is with such care, love, and a focus on community and Adobo Boy is no different. The restaurant is in a little strip with ample parking which was super convenient. The interior is ADORABLE with custom art on the wall with Filipino icons, cultural touchstones, and a fun sign. The restaurant is moderately small and cozy but not cramped or tight. They even have a little market in the back corner to get some Filipino snacks and seasonings. Redd, the son and face of Adobo Boy took our orders and explained everything so well. He is so beyond kind and seems genuinely proud to work there and of the food and experience they provide. The other staff is extremely kind, attentive, and friendly and Ace even came out to ask people about their food, especially the halo halo. Getting to the food, it was INCREDIBLE. I've had Filipino food a handful of times from friends and their families but this really took the cake. We tried the Sinigang wings and there were absolutely addicting. My friend had told me that sinigang is often a soup and can be a little sour so to prepare for that. the flavor was like nothing I'd ever had and the slight hint of sour was absolutely delectable. Redd told us that this was actually an invention of his! I had also gotten Redd's Adobo Baboy which was the pork dish. I don't think I've ever had such tender pork in my life. I was so surprised at how all the flavors melded so well together and everything in the bowl complimented the other and provided necessary flavor and texture components. I also tried my first ever halo halo. My friend had told me that halo halo can be hit or miss for some people. The one at Adobo Boy had pandan and ube swirl ice cream atop shave ice and a myriad of different fruits and toppings. There is a LOT going on but everything worked together so well for me. I'm honestly so elated that Adobo Boy has a physical location so I can go back more and more to enjoy their food and company. I HIGHLY recommend coming here to feed your stomach and your heart. I'm so happy that Adobo Boy has a new location! They have their own restaurant space on Plainfield and I finally got to visit for dinner recently. We got there right after they opened for the evening and it was super busy! They have a small team as a family owned spot so be patient as they are newly open. Order at the counter and then find a table. They do takeout as well. The menu has a few specialties that rotate every couple weeks. I got the pasalubong ng dagat (steamed tilapia) and Nate got the pork adobo. We also ordered some lumpia and n/a drinks (calamansi lemonade and dragonfruit soda). Our food didn't take very long to come out and the courses were spaced appropriately. The lumpia was super fresh and hot, crispy and delicious. I loved the dragonfruit soda and calamansi lemonade is refreshing and a bit tart. The tilapia dish was perfectly cooked and tender, and had a bit of heat in the creamy coconut sauce. It was a large portion and I loved the fresh ginger. Their pork adobo is so comforting and such a classic Filipino dish done very well. I really wish we had room for dessert but we will definitely be back. The space is very fun with lots of Filipino celebrities featured and some Tagalog phrases to learn. I tried this place for lunch today for takeout. It did NOT disappoint! First, the owners are so nice, introduced themselves, and thanked me for coming in. The restaurant is fairly spacious, not the most aesthetic interior, but that didn't bother me. I tried the pork adobo bowl and added an egg for $2, and the lumpia rolls. My total was around $25. After my first bite of the pork adobo bowl (which was just taste testing the rice), I knew it was going to be good. The rice is sooo flavorful, and the pork is really tasty, especially when you get a fattier piece. The egg was a perfect medium with a slightly runny yolk. The lumpia rolls were also good! The sauce didn't have a strong flavor to me, but it still paired well. This was a large sized portion for lunch; at first I was afraid there would only be small amount of pork, but I actually could barely finish it. I've meant to try Adobo Boy for years and realized they're in the Amazing Myanmar building along with Brunch N Rice now. It was great to be able to try both restaurants on the same day! Jackie & Ace were so sweet and really treat you like old friends. We started off with a refreshing Calamansi lemonade, made from a citrus hybrid which is cultivated predominantly in the Philippines. As an entree, we got the Dinuguan, also known as "chocolate meat," which is a savory dish made with diced pork, pork blood, and spices. Finally, we got the ube turon malagkit for dessert--a fried Filipino spring roll filled with a sticky rice, condensed milk, margarine, sugar, and cheese and coated with sweet caramel. Had a fantastic lunch at Adobo Boy today. I had read about the restaurant in GR Magazine and was inspired to check it out. I had the chicken adobo bowl. It was a rice bowl with a chicken thigh and leg with a soy and vinegar sauce. Also came with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, quail eggs and some sort of bell pepper (I think). It was delicious. It also went well with the excellent chili sauce that came with our spring rolls. My mom and niece split the beef mami, a beef broth soup. It looked very good and the noodles looked fantastic. They both enjoyed it. We had a nice conversation with Ace, who saw my niece's school district t-shirt and mentioned how his son (Redd, the Adobo Boy) goes there too. Redd also said hello to us when he heard us talking about video games. I don't live in GR so I can't say when I'll be back. But I will certainly recommend Adobo Boy to my local friends. Found this little gem on the way to the Grand Rapids, MI airport two hours before my departure. We got there 20 minutes before they opened. I decided to hop on Yelp to see if there was a number to place a takeout order, but instead there was an option to send a message. I did just that and the owner replied within a minute! BBQ pork with side of rice bowl with egg on top 2. whole tilapia with rice and ginger vinegar sauce (not exactly sure but delicious!), 3. papaya salad, 4. chicken adobe, 5. mango sticky rice (dessert), 6. ice cream with flan and special grated salt. Being half Filipino, I was excited to hear about Adobo Boy. The food is fresh and fantastic. Ace was so welcoming, chatting with us for a while after we ordered. They have a lot of great dishes and drinks, and the menu changes depending on the week so there's good variety. This time we went for the special breakfast service as I really like the longsilog and tocilog (special sweet sausage or pork, egg and fried rice). The bibingka pancake with salted duck egg was the best version of bibingka I've ever had. Although I grew up eating the many meat-based adobo, sisig, pancit etc. I am now mostly plant based, so I was also happy to see they crafted veg versions like tofu sisig and mushroom adobo. We also sampled his beef bone broth, which puts all other bone broths in town to shame. Bottle that stuff, please!
