Come for gas and a Slush Puppie, stay for dinner!…read more Fuel & Food is a Sunoco station, convenience store, and deli that is also a hub for hunters and fishers. In addition to their ample beer selection, bottled drinks, basic foodstuffs, fishing and hunting supplies, and deli, they also have good hot foods, good enough for this gas station to be one of my father's favorite restaurants. Before you start picturing him leaning over the checkout eating a hot dog off the roller grill, I should mention that they have a side room with a few booths and tables and will bring your food out to you. And, in terms of food, they have quite a variety- the stuffed peppers and chicken wings are my personal favorites. Or, if you're there in the morning, either on your way to go hunt or or your way to work, definitely consider the breakfast combo. For under $5, you get a 16 oz coffee, hash brown, and wonderfully filling breakfast sandwich that comes with two sausage patties and two eggs. Whenever I get this, I'm filled until lunch. As I have noted, though, Fuel & Food is a popular destination for sportspeople and they have seasonal contests for the heaviest fish, nicest deer, and other "great hunts." While I certainly do appreciate the skill and reward of catching a really nice animal, I have to admit, I once accidentally chose to sit next to the "wall of fame" before eating and found that I had lost my appetite upon seeing a number of pictures of dead, bloodied animals. Again, good for the hunters for the great catch, but if you have a more delicate stomach like me, you might want to opt for a booth on the other side of the room.

We were visiting from Long Island and needed to kill some time while doing our laundry on vacation…read more (Yes, even vacations involve laundry sometimes! ) We decided to wander around and were lucky enough to stumble upon The Galway Local--and what a fantastic surprise it was! The moment we walked in, we were greeted like old friends. They told us about their wonderful Coffee & Conversation event, held on the last Tuesday of every month. They offer a free cup of coffee and encourage people to sit, chat, and connect with one another. In a world where everyone's staring at their phones, what a refreshing and heartwarming idea! Now let's talk about the food... or should I say, my complete lack of self-control. The display case was packed with homemade cakes, brownies, and other goodies that made choosing nearly impossible. I finally settled on the coffee cake, and WOW! It was incredibly moist, delicious, and so enormous I practically needed to unhinge my jaw like a python just to take a bite. Every bite was worth the effort! My husband inhaled a homemade brownie with a chocolate milk so quickly I'm not entirely convinced he even tasted it. I also grabbed a vegan sweet potato, bean, and cheese chili to take back for lunch. If it tastes half as good as it looked, I'll be dreaming about it until our next trip! They also have a great selection of coffee flavors, so there's something for everyone. If you're anywhere near Galway, do yourself a favor and stop in. Come for the coffee, stay for the conversation... and maybe wear stretchy pants if you plan on sampling the baked goods. You'll thank me later!
