This is a really beautiful and heavy 80-year-old legacy wooden door and I wanted to keep it. Just a door, not a big problem to fix, you might say. But you'd be mistaken. Most companies wanted to tear out the whole door, frame included, and replace it with a new steel one. No thanks. Other handymen wanted to tear out and then replace the frame/jamb and rehang the door; lots of demolition work, and expensive. And then came Anthony and Carrie of Squirrel Squad. They were totally on my wavelength: save the door, no unnecessary demolition, and *fix the problem*. Anthony showed up with Harry, raised and then reseated the three hinges, and in under two hours the door was saved, opening and shutting like a dream. We asked Backyard to modify the quote (into what would have been a much larger job) to fence the entire yard instead. They declined and were really odd about the request, to the point where we swung by their office to check on status. The owner refused to discuss the job further with us. They went from super communicative to non-responsive (and tbh, we felt uncomfortable with the owner's odd approach throughout). We wound up using another local company and had zero issues. Just a weird place to buy a fence.

When I got home from work and realized I had no power the company was closed so I left a message. The next day they never called me so I called them again. At that point Melissa was insistent that the foreman told me about hitting the wire which absolutely was NOT the case. If they told me I would have dealt with the issue immediately. The owner,Jerry, then responded to an email and took ZERP responsibility and just lied and lied but did ask for the estimate I got from electrician to fix the problem. He then said the estimate was excessive and offered to pay less than a quarter of the amount of the bill. He then continued to lie and blame me for the wire. I may have misunderstood when they told me they would handle the Dig safe stuff, but regardless what kind of person/ business hits a wire that cut off power (which they most definitely knew about) and instead of telling me they literally covered it up and lied about it. They are now offering no assistance with the electrician bill and instead just sending me nasty condescending messages after I just paid them $6500 for a fence. Additionally they left my lawn a mess and dug up a piece of my walkway for absolutely no reason which they refuse to even answer when asked why they ruined my walkway. Backyard Fence is the WORST company I have ever dealt with in my entire life. I see from other reviewers that their RUDE and NASTY demeanor is with other customer as is how they LIE to try to cover up problems and then blame the customer. Two days later and I am still without power and have to pay 1300 to get this electrical issue fixed.

Frnced looked good for about a year to year and 1/2. We noticed that on one of the post two panels had slid down about 4 -5 inches. Emailed our rep and he said no problem it would be fixed. Well he showed up a few days later. Said oh i have wrong bit. Came back following week. This time was hitting the panels with a board to try to raise it up because he cant find right bit. Told him just have installer stop by in close to the store and it would only take them about 15-20 min. So he left ir trued to because he locked keys in truck. So had to call for help. Next thing u hear from him is well i can just come over and cut the top if the post or just live with it. No you not cutting post! It still slopes down‍. Told him not living with it have an installer fix the issue. That was 9/25/23. Was then told we will fix in spring when weather breaks. Yup you guessed it nothing! Customer service is terrible. I even went above this guy for help and no response from anyone! Also when i first contacted for repair we had just gone through another incident at my daughters house with this company and same salesperson. Had previously given a recommendation to a neighbor about them [before I knew what problems I would experience] and they went into contract with them 6 months after I had already contracted with them. They came and did my neighbors fence - terrible job - my neighbors had to have another company come and repair the fence that was falling apart in a matter of months. In the interim - I continued to get excuse after excuse about when they were going to install my fence. After 1.5 years - had to threaten legal action to get my down payment back. We had looked for 3 months to find a fence installer that still did wooden fences. After searching…read moreand reading reviews ( which need to be read with care ), I decided to go to Bruce fence. Melissa in the office was fantastic and very personable, went through the options I had looked at, gave me the good, better, best run-down, and helped with an initial ( ballpark ) quote. We set up a date for the next week for Will to come get a site review. He arrived right on time, listened to what we wanted to do, and then proceeded to measure, make notes, and head back to the office to work up the quote and email it to me. The quote was received in 2 days, and I went to place a deposit that day. The installation was set for 2-3 weeks later, but they ended up having a hole in the schedule and were here in a week. The installers were to remove and dispose of the 136' of existing fence, and then put the new one up. Initially estimated to possibly be a 2 day job. The crew arrived right on time ( crew of 3 ) at 8:00 in the morning, re-walked the site, confirmed the placement of the posts, and proceeded with the work. One member of the crew went about removing the old fence and digging the new post holes, and the other 2 placed the posts and sections of the fence. They seemed to work straight through, with just a break for lunch and one or 2 short breaks. Levels were used to make sure that the posts were placed correctly, and when all was done ( by 4:00 pm), the new fence was in. I walked the fence with the lead foreman and pointed out 1 or 2 things which were rectified right away. When they left, there was no trash, yard waste, or leftovers to dispose of. I am immensely pleased and would recommend them based upon my experience. Bill M. 10/19/23
