Adi is amazing! She drove from the east bay to San Francisco to do my hair and makeup for a late morning wedding. She was professional, punctual and personable. We ended changing my hair from my trail and she was able to do so with ease. My makeup was absolutely flawless and last all day long and she gave me the cutest touch up kit. 10 out 10, 100% recommend

I was afraid to trust anyone with my hair, and I found Adi she is super amazing and friendly, the service was amazing, she kept length which is what I wanted, she especially listened to what I wanted! She washed my hair and styled it with a blow out at the end which was amazing. If you need a place to get a haircut or anything book with Adi!!

Low lights for summer

Adi is literally the best! I started going to her in March 2023. I did a complete transformation from blonde to brunette and my hair is the healthiest it's ever been. She does amazing cuts and she is very transparent about every step she takes with the color process. In addition, she has the best blow outs I have ever seen. My hair is gorgeous after going to her. She is very meticulous and pays attention to all the details!

I've been a client of Adi's for a couple years now and let me start by saying: When I say she is skilled, I mean it! She has taken me from ombré, to brown, to blue, to natural! You name it! Recently at her Walnut Creek space she had the difficult job of transforming my blonde messy hair to black again! (Most people don't go blonde to black, lol but she was up for the challenge!) She did a fantastic blue black and blunt cut that completely hid all the damage previously done from another stylist! I texted her a few days before in hope that she would have a spot, and of course she responded quickly, and eager to have me in her chair just in time for my birthday! Her place is easily located downtown Walnut Creek with free one hour parking across the street! Awesome. Thanks Adi!

I never wear makeup. Like never. So when I considered getting my makeup done for my wedding, I knew I needed to find just the right makeup artist that could give me a very natural look and understand that my skin is not used to makeup. So my search began..... Makeup artist after makeup artist, I noticed that getting your makeup done for a wedding is VERY expensive. I came across Adi's profile (since I didn't know anything about makeup, I only wanted to reach out to people with 5 stars for their reviews), so I messed her for pricing. I was pretty surprised to find her prices are actually very reasonable compared to other makeup artist prices. Adi was very responsive to my messages, and she listened to exactly what I wanted done, with knowing that I never wear makeup. Since I do not wear makeup, I thought it would be a good idea to do a trial. I decided to do my makeup trial right before my engagement shoot. My fiance was in WOW with how I looked, and I couldn't be more happy with how the trial turned out. I was so excited to see the same thing executed for my wedding day a few weeks later. Come my wedding day, she came to my hotel early to start on my hair and my bridesmaids hair since we were on a very tight schedule. My hair has never looked better before and I got so many compliments. Then after finishing hair at the hotel, we headed to the venue where she did my make up, and she brought an assistant to do my bridesmaids makeup. Everyone loved how theirs turned out, and again, I was blown away with mine. Thanks so much Adi for making me look beautiful for my wedding and for being the first person to ever do my makeup :] I will definitely be reaching out again if I need my makeup done again!

Feeling like a million bucks on my special day thanks to Adi.

Adi is a complete sweetheart, and I couldn't have asked for anyone better to help me feel beautiful on my special day. She tackled both me and my mom, both hair and makeup, in about two hours. She works well under pressure and is the perfect level of professional and friendly. I highly recommend her.

Adi is amazing! I will be a returning customer. Adi did my wedding hair and makeup and she did an amazing job. When we did my wedding trial she asked all the right questions and made sure I loved everything about my wedding look. On my wedding day Adi was on time to my hotel and did all of my bridesmaids as well. What was wonderful was she came to my venue as well to do touch ups. Thank you Adi for doing such an amazing job and making my day special.

We have known Adi for many years and she is the greatest person. She knows make up and hair and doesn't push what she wants on you. She listens and then she formulates a game plan plan. She did my daughter's make up and hair for her first high school formal dance and she looked striking. Highly recommend.

Adi was absolutely amazing!! It was super easy to communicate with her and set up a time! She did a half up / half down hair style with a braid for my sisters prom. We're super happy with the results and would definitely recommend Adi to anyone

Natural and glowing, thank you Adi!

Adi was just wonderful to work with! Her team did a fantastic job working with me and my bridesmaids, and she came to the venue (my parent's home) to help us get ready. I felt so beautiful and poised--no touch ups needed, my makeup lasted all night and looks flawless in the photos. Thank you, Adi!

Can't wait to see what MORE styles Adi can do to my hair!! Summer time means BRAID 'EM UP!!

I'm from San Francisco and I moved out here to Concord three years ago but I work in SF still and get my hair done there.... THEN I MET Adi... I think I'll be making Beauty by the Mile my new spot! Clean and nice location, and welcomed by smiles and hospitality! Everyone was super nice and friendly. I LOVE what Adi has done with my hair. Got compliments about my braids and will be making future appointments!! Thank you again!!!

I love going to Adi, because she is the right kind of perfectionist to my perfectionist side. She pays attention to detail which we all know is important for our hair. I will be going back to her.

My hair about 5 hours after the blow out. It still looked amazing and my hair usually doesn't hold a curl very well.

What a great experience it was to get my hair blown out and curled yesterday with Adi. I am visiting Walnut Creek for a family wedding and needed a quick last minute appointment so walked in & got great service, conversation, perfect timing, & beautiful hair. Thank you Adi!I loved my hair and it stayed very well.

The space always has such cute decor and they add extra things for holidays. I chose Sabrina for my stylist because her instagram showed beautiful curly cuts and I've always had a difficult time finding someone who can cut my curly hair. Every time I come to Sabrina with a new idea, she's always been supportive, asking clarifying questions and has given me good advice on how my hair will handle whatever I want to do to it. She never pressures me to me do something differently and always makes me feel heard. When I said I wanted to go to purple hair back to blonde she spent extra time making sure every hint of my purple hair was gone and that I'd be happy with the results. I really appreciate Sabrina when she gives me her professional knowledge and helps me learn what is best for my hair.

It saddens me to write this after 2-3 years as a Rare Byrd customer. This review concerns only my…read morestylist, Sabrina Huish, not the salon or its other stylists. For years I enjoyed our conversations and valued Sabrina's experience. But lately she seemed rushed and distracted, sometimes moving on while I was explaining what I wanted. On several occasions, I was double-booked without advance notice. During one appointment, she was enthusiastically working on another client's elaborate, waist-length rainbow color, which she said had taken 6-8 hours. Much of my own service was handed to an assistant, and I felt like an afterthought. Creative color may be her passion, but clients requesting conventional colors and cuts deserve attentive service too. My mother had similar difficulties feeling heard and eventually stopped seeing her. I'd also had several bang trims that were too short, uneven, or unlike the reference photos I'd shown. I began trimming my bangs myself, but continued seeing Sabrina for color and overall cuts, with only occasional bang trims alongside a full haircut rather than at my monthly color touch-ups. Our history made me want to give her the benefit of the doubt. At my latest appointment, I wanted a lighter, more neutral brown and brought ideas about color levels. After color remover, Sabrina said lighter brunettes naturally have warmer tones. I respectfully explained that my natural medium brown hadn't had the reddish warmth I'd noticed since coloring it. She clarified that dyed hair behaves differently. I understood, and said I was happy to wait until another appointment for my preferred shade if that was healthier for my hair, even though I'd hoped to have it done before my birthday celebration the following week. I wanted to discuss a plan together. Instead, I felt increasingly uncomfortable with her annoyed expressions, laughter, and responses that came across as condescending. I'm quiet and dislike confrontation, so asking questions when someone seems irritated takes effort. I tried to stay friendly and assume she was having an off day. When she explained that the shades I'd suggested would be too dark, I thanked her and asked whether a level six would better suit my goal. I appreciated her advice and was happy to follow it. I wasn't challenging her expertise; I simply wanted input into decisions about my own hair. I also asked her to blend my bangs into face-framing layers. They looked fine at first, but at home I saw that one side had been cut much farther back than the other, leaving noticeably uneven thickness and an inconsistent transition into the layers. I politely texted asking if I could stop in the following Tuesday for a correction so my hair would look nice for my birthday. I simply explained the unevenness and asked for a fix. Her lengthy, feelings-focused reply stunned me. Although she offered other days to look at my bangs, she suggested I find another stylist because of my supposed "lack of faith in my professionalism and argumentative nature." She revisited our color discussion, said my questions made her uncomfortable and stressed, and wrote, "I also don't feel it's necessary to have to explain my reasoning for everything I do." What felt especially bizarre was the complete reversal of what I'd experienced. During the appointment, I had felt anxious about asking perfectly reasonable questions because her responses seemed defensive and dismissive. I'd consciously tried to remain respectful and friendly despite feeling uncomfortable, only to receive a message afterward portraying me as the argumentative one who had made her uncomfortable. Her account felt completely at odds with my experience. I'd paid approximately $400 and left my usual full tip despite the tension because I didn't want one uncomfortable appointment to overshadow years of good experiences. I don't expect perfection, and I respect a stylist's professional judgment. In fact, I want that expertise! But clients should be able to ask questions, express preferences, and collaborate with their stylist without being made to feel difficult. A professional consultation shouldn't require blindly agreeing with everything suggested. To be fair, Sabrina did offer alternative dates to correct my bangs. However, after receiving a message criticizing my behavior and explaining how uncomfortable I'd made her, I no longer felt comfortable returning to sit in her chair. What should have been a straightforward correction became an unnecessarily personal and unpleasant situation. After years of loyalty, this was an incredibly disappointing end to the relationship. I left with uneven bangs just before my birthday, and a simple request for help ended a years-long client relationship. I can no longer recommend Sabrina to clients who want to discuss their hair goals. I've retained our complete text exchange and would be happy to share it privately with salon management if they'd like to understand what happened.

The stylist I saw has since left this salon…read more Originally I emailed Sixteen Eighty Eight through Yelp with my formula and they confirmed they were able to do it, which was great news since I've had trouble finding someone who can follow my formula in Walnut Creek. They matched me with a stylist and I came in on a particularly cold rainy day. The first issue I noted was that they didn't use heat to process, which my formula calls for. Although I've had other salons use wet heat to treat, using no heat was unusual. Beyond that, I noted the stylist would make comments where the tone sounded friendly, but the words like, "your hair is so long, do you ever cut it," were a bit rude. By the end of the visit it was clear she didn't particularly like me, but my hair looked fine under the lighting, so I tipped well and left. What followed has literally never happened to me in the four years I've gotten full root coverage. The color leeched out of my hair - as in, within a few days, all coverage was gone. I don't know what she used, but after a week it didn't look like I'd gotten my hair done at all - my best guess is that because she didn't use heat, it didn't process correctly. I just don't know. I've sat on this review trying to decide how I feel about it, but I definitely always now confirm my formula has to be processed with heat and I've gone back to my old salon in Berkeley even though it's a bit of a drive.
