I hadn't gotten my hair done in over a year and was looking for a stylist. My coworker gets her hair done at Stem Salon, so I decided to see if they had an instagram. They posted photo's of Alison's work and her professional profile. I decided to Direct Message her on instagram hoping she would reply. Shortly after she responded and gave me her number where we had a consultation via texting and set up an appointment. It's amazing what technology can do! I used to get full highlights with my hair picked very thin, so my hair looked solid blonde. Since I let it grow out for over a year, there was a huge difference. Alison knew exactly what to do to make it look natural and cohesive with the highlights I had from before. She ended up doing a balayage and some foils to achieve the look and also cut my hair. I am so happy with how my hair turned out and she was so helpful and gave me a look that has an easier (and cheaper) maintenance from what I had before. She is such a great stylist and so sweet! THE BEST! Alison has been doing my hair for about 7+ years and she does an amazing job (and I'm super picky)! She does a variety of techniques to get the perfect color for me...highlights, baby lights, hand painting, balayage....she does it all! I have extremely thick hair (like more than anyone you've ever met) and she always takes her time getting it perfect with layers and texturing. She's great with providing suggestions on how to get the style I am looking for. She does get booked up quickly though so I always book my appoints awhile in advance but she's great with accommodating my schedule. She did exactly what I wanted and made sure that I was okay with whatever she planned to do before she did it (ie: using a razor to thin out my super thick hair, adding framing pieces in the front of my A-ish line lob, preference of shampoos/conditioners while washing my hair and so forth). One of the most important gifts I look for in a stylist is confidence in their artistry and ability to make something special with or without their clients' direction. I've honestly lost track of how many years Alison has been taking care of my hair. My hair isn't anything particularly special, it is fine and has some natural body, but I rarely have any particular ideas of what I want to do with it each time I arrive for an appointment. Generally, I'm just hoping to cover up the grays that have popped up and make it easy-ish for me to style while simultaneously chasing my kids around the bathroom. Alison always makes up for my lack of inspiration by executing a fun and functional vision for my style. I always defer to her judgement about what type of color treatment will work best, how much we should cut, and if it might be time to mix things up with a different shape. On the flip side, I also sent my mother in law to Alison when she moved here a year ago. My MIL has a very specific look and style for her hair. Alison was able to keep that style, but subtly updated the look for a bit of a younger vibe. Beyond her skill, Alison is just a really cool person. I mean, let's face it, you are going to spend hours with the stylist that does your hair - you really do have to like them. I have very curly and frizzy hair and she knew exactly how to cut it (anyone who knows how to cut curly hair knows you cut it dry, THEN wash/style)...she worked with me to make sure she kept the length I wanted but getting the dead/dry ends off. She even styled it properly after and recommended great styling products without trying to upsell me on some expensive gel that only works on already-perfect hair.
