No children allowed. Beer and liquor! And games!!! It's a tiny place that's a little awkward to find but I really dig it. The bar is small but I swear they have liquor. They also have food the menu is on a slip of torn legal paper taped on a shelf :). Oh For the smokers theres a patio where you can bring your beverages too. The staff is always cool, there's a few super fun arcade games. The games are .25 to .50 unlike shortys games that start at .75. And it's not crowded at all on weekdays. I had a very enjoyable visit to this place. I would have given it 5 stars if the layout was a bit roomier and a couple of the games we tried to play was not broken and wasted quarters because of it. They were having a pinball tournament in the middle of my visit here but the clientele was very patient and awesome about the non tournament players on the machines getting a game in. Actually, awesome in both sportsmanship and support with people that were just average pinball players in the mix of the professional crowd. This place is really laid back and welcoming. Full bar is available which is a very nice touch and option. The span of years that the pinball and video games ranged were very large making it enjoyable to be able to play very different experiences of gaming. The establishment is a bit on the older side but they did their best with the layout and architecture of the place. Booths are also available for table games and/or just sitting down with geeky gamer friends to enjoy a drink or two while resting up for the next adventure! There was a loose dog walking around the whole place which was fine but, not everyone would feel comfortable about that and/or allergens associated with it. No one seemed to care about the leash law or the dog itself as the noise of the place would overload any living creature. Many felt sorry for the animal as it kept walking back and forth looking for some answers to life. I am a fan and had a great time while visiting. Thanks! read more

Super fun little barcade. Tons of pinball machines and one little gem; the Killer Queen Machine. This game is just as intricate and strategic as the mass of people that stop by to play on league nights Tuesdays at 7. This place is great, reasonably priced beers (not a huge draft selection), awesome old school video games and pinball. Food is straight from the frozen food section at QFC, hot pockets, micro burritos etc. They recently really expanded the back room adding a giant painting on the wall of Swayze himself and a graphic of the ewok laden forests of Endor. If you don't feel like pumping quarters into old school video games then play a game of Jenga or some of the other board games. My personal favorite game is the ultra analog horseshoe pitch near the front bathroom, hidden in the corner this game is one of the gems here. 2 player competition, just be sure to put your quarters in slowly and one at a time. Drinks were super cheap, games were priced fairly and the bartender/only person working was super helpful to all of us! This is one of my favorite spots in Seattle, especially after they increased their space immensely recently. There is a small but sufficient selection of beer and booze, as well as cheap and fresh licorice vines. But you come for the lack of pretension and the abundance of pinball and video games. I prefer Add-A-Ball over Unicorn and Shorty's because the variety and quantity of pins is a little better, and while the music can be loud, both Unicorn and Shorty's can be deafening at times. And Add-A-Ball's decor is amazing. It looks like 1970s-era casino carpets were used to cover some of the walls, while amazing airbrush paintings cover other walls, featuring icons from Spaceballs, Star Wars and Point Break, of all things. My very favorite moment at Add-A-Ball came as they were closing the last time I was there. Last call had been called, and it was clear that closing time was upon us. One of the employees cranked up the stereo to play Talking Heads' This Must Be The Place, one of my all-time favorite songs. Spontaneously, everyone in attendance moved to the front room and engaged in a dance party and sing-along. And when the song ended, we all spilled out into the alleyway, laughing and singing the chorus into the night. I can't get over how awesome this place was. There were a ton of games and there was a lot people in there but it never felt over crowded. Whenever we wanted to play a game, there was one open. If you are looking for a specific game, you might have to wait as they only have one of every kind. The drinks were a good price; we ordered a can ($4) and a bottle ($5) each time and even though the line for the bar looked long it went by pretty quick. They have a lot of old style arcade games that can keep you busy for days reminiscing on your childhood. My boyfriend and I spent $8 in quarters on the games and we were there for about 2 hours, so a great deal. I just wish this was where I lived; I would definitely come here often. read more

I'm finally able to write my review about Add A Ball after my friends and I celebrated a birthday here. I stumbled upon this place totally by chance. I was waiting for a friend to finish up at the bead store on top of the arcade and wandered in. I was planning my husband's birthday party and asked about renting out the arcade. The guy working their explained that it was $100/hr, minimum of 3hrs. He also mentioned that it's best if you have atleast 15 people in your party. I got his email address and started planning. Originally i was told that the time i wanted (6-9pm on a Saturday) would be fine. Then a few weeks later I was told no (apparently that's their prime time). I figured with the amount of money i was already giving them (plus drinks bought) that it would equal or exceed what they would make on a regular Saturday. OH WELL, we moved the time from 3-6pm. PLEASE NOTE: This place is CASH ONLY. I wish I was told that via email while booking the event. During the party I asked the bartender if I could pay for my event rental and he then told me it was cash only. I wasn't prepared to fork over $300 in cash. Eventually we settled on using paypal (after his protest). In the end, my guests had fun. The arcade/tavern is really great and filled with old games I've never seen anywhere else. If you're having a party, you're allowed to bring in your own food (since they don't serve any). My guests enjoyed the beers they had on tap and in cans (ask about the "man can". one small complaint, their bathroom is a bit scary/ poorly lit. my friend ripped her dress on a pipe/tube inside the bathroom. read more

As a Fremont resident it can be rather frightening to leave the house on weekend evenings. The neighborhood is absolutely overrun with dudebros, making it impossible to find an establishment with tables and/or clientele I don't want to punch in the throat. Luckily for me Add-a-Ball came along! This is a great little basement bar with arcade games (Bubble Bobble is officially my new obsession), a microwave popcorn vending machine with a built-in microwave, and a semi-decent beer selection. To be honest, the beer and snacks could definitely be better but I don't even mind- the games are cheap, the guys who own the place are really great and I've never seen a dudebro on the premises. Definitely a win in my book. Besides, if you're hungry for better food or thirsty for better booze you can head across the street to Brouwer's or to the parking lot next door for taco truck food. So, if you're like me and tend to stay away from Fremont like it's the plague on weekends: fear no more. Add-a-Ball is heaven sent, a sight for sore eyes, just what the doctor order, insert favorite cliche here. See you at the Bubble Bobble! Update: Add-a-ball gave me a credit at the bar for losing my card. I went again, only to find that they had lost the credit which they had given me. When I inquired I was blamed for not keeping track of the name of the bartender who gave the credit (the name was not offered). Because I was meeting someone, I ended up ordering and paying for a beer, during the ordering of which the bartender continued to demean me. Bottom line: Great bar if you're into needlessly arrogant and antagonistic staff and bad customer service. read more

Nice beer selection at an always-fair $5 a pop, cheap ($5) and strong mixed drinks, and most importantly, an awesome selection of arcade games. I visited Add-a-ball recently on a date and with some friends. I have been several times and always had a positive experience. However, last night my date and I head up to the bar and order our drinks. The short bartender with a blonde beard gives us a confused look and refuses to serve us and could not provide a reason. Minutes later we are kicked out by the bouncer and no explanation was provided. The bouncer was actually very friendly and clearly had no idea why we were being asked to leave. I'm not sure if this was a case of homophobia, but obviously I won't be returning to this establishment. My date and I finished our evening at LTD and had a great time. read more

I checked this place out for the Star Wars (Data East) pinball game. In my opinion, Shorty's is a much better place, but this spot still has a fairly decent selection of pinball games. This place does have a very chill vibe. It's not huge and it's full of hipsters. Free parking is a bit hard to find (there is a pay lot nearby), but you can usually find some a few blocks away in the neighborhood. There is a change machine, so bring your cash. I had a bit of a hard time finding the place, but asked around and found it. There are certain places that transcend the normal qualities by which you judge a joint. Hala Kahiki is one of them; the Maker's Mark distillery is another. You don't just want to go to them; you want to LIVE at them. Add-A-Ball is straight out of my '70s pinball joint/'80s arcade dreams, only it has cheap beer and alcohol! The beer selection is minimal and the liquor bar isn't all craftsy or anything, but what do you want when you're feeding quarter after quarter into the Surf Champ machine? Its location near the main drag in Fremont and its pleasingly divey atmosphere are just icing on the clanging beeping cake. The only thing that keeps it from getting five stars is that there's not a little hot dog bar in the back. YET. Put that in and install a cot by the Captain Fantastic machine and I'll start paying you rent, guys. read more

Bouncer let all 3 of my white friends in but not me - said I was too drunk - I was the only sober one in my group and DD. He claimed he was the owner. I tried talk to him telling him I wasn't drinking and just wanted to play some pinball. He then grabbed my shirt and told me to step back (I wasn't even on Addaball property - I was 3 feet on the outskirt of the entrance) at which point I pushed his hands off my shirt and then he threatened to pepper spray me. read more

I want to begin by saying that I love this bar and plan to keep going. But, my experience with a bartender on Saturday night was more than off putting. I had a tab open (over zealous), but only ended up getting one beer. When I went to pay, the bartender asked if I could pay in cash since it was only $5. Seeing this as logical and whatever, I looked around and came up with some cash. Here's where the jaw dropping happened. I give him the money, he gives me a look. I ask him if that was $5 (it was dark, and I'm human), he says yes. I reply and ask if there's a problem, he says WELL, MOST PEOPLE TIP. Excuse me?! I couldn't believe the audacity. Dude had a tip jar right in front of him. Why did he feel the need to TELL me to tip? I always tip people in the service industry, especially for great service. The BF and I spent a few hours here with some friends of his last Saturday night. We had a lot of fun! Add-a-Ball is a great warm-up or pre-funk to a night out in Fremont. They have a bunch of old-school games, my favorites being the Star Wars pinball machine, Street Fighter and PacMan. Most games are a quarter, some are 50 cents. They offer beer, the BF and I both had Rainier tallboys. It might be a little hard to find, as it's in a small alley across from Brouwer's (look for the bright orange "Arcade" arrow) Bring some cash - they do not accept credit cards! read more

This great little spot located right up the road from Theo's Chocolate Factory. The games here are all A list titles including the Pinball which they can boast as they have a Medieval Madness! They don't have much for sitting space, they also don't have much to offer for food, and the bar doesn't hard alcohol either. But the upside is that there are several restaurants and bars to get a full stomach and drunk on hard alcohol prior to coming in for some gaming. They also are "pot friendly" and every time I've went there is always a couple guys near the entrance getting stoned (probably for medicinal purposes)... read more
