If you are looking for great BBQ, Adams is the place to go. The staff is very friendly and know their BBQ. We had the three meat platter: brisket, ribs, and pulled pork with mac-n-cheese and Brunswick stew (least favorite thing I had, but will try again to see if this was just an off stew day). Ribs we fall off the bone, brisket smoked to perfection, and the pulled pork was juicy and well smoked. Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a beef brisket sandwich on a traditional bun. I specifically asked for my brisket to be off the top and juicy with a little bark. Took the order to the truck and hit the road as we was headed to Mount Olive for a soccer match. I opened up my sandwich and it was on a big piece of cold Texas toast, not what I had requested. The meat was dry and boring with no smoke flavor at all. Not even a good piece of roast beef. Disappointing and even worse it too, was cold. Daughter ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it too, was served COLD, three minutes after we left. Had we not had a place to be at 1 o'clock, I would've turned around and asked for a refund on all of it. A waste of $25. Been eating barbecue for over 65 years. The corn sticks!! Why don't more BBQ places have these! I love them! I'd go here again, just for those! The sandwich was good, my husband said, not the best but good. All I had we're the sticks, the Mac and cheese, and banana pudding. The Mac and cheese was tasty! It's definitely not from a kit, as it has a homemade flavor and you could see the real cheese. The banana pudding - not great. They have mea bowl of pudding with whip cream, not meringue, and without bananas. They were out of bananas. This isn't how banana pudding works! Adam's Roadside BBQ response to my review is 100% obscene, I ordered for there to be sweet BBQ sauce and they 100% failed (on the side and on top of the food), even when I called them they apologized but was unwilling to make a 35 minute round trip on their failures. I took it easy on my first review but honestly the Brisket was very fatty and dried out, looked old. So here's the original complaint. - Drove past Adam's BBQ for last 2 years waiting to try.... I should have kept driving :(. Vet disappointed. The main thing in BBQ is BBQ and there was no sauce on the meat nor sauce on the side as I ordered. This made the meat very unpleasant very very dry. Unfortunately my Hunts BBQ sauce could not save the day. Maybe experience would have been better with the proper sauce but Adam's BBQ got a solid 2 compared to "Low and Slow and McCall's. read more

Stopped into this small but on point bbq place off hey 70 in Goldsboro. I ordered a brisket sandwich combo came with potato salad and tea as my sides. There had to be 5-6 pieces of just juicy brisket with little bit of fat that put that right over the top. At one point after few bites I just ate the brisket off sandwich cause bread was filling me up. They put a little sauce on it too it was so so good!! Potato salad was good as sides go but I'd definitely take friends here. The only real issue was there's no seating indoors and limited seating outside. Great bbq and catering services! We've used Adams several times for work events and they never disappoint.

Just north of Greensboro and right on the side of the highway, Adam's is just a small little building with some great food! Adam's seems to have slightly different offerings each time I go, but I have yet to have anything that was not very appetizing. Situated in the middle of eastern NC BBQ country, they do have pork BBQ, but by far, my favorite is their brisket and brisket sandwich. Always cooked perfectly and I like their homemade BBQ sauces. It is right up there with the best brisket I have had. Service is always friendly, and they also do a great job with catering, when I lived in Goldsboro we would have them do the catering for our company golf tournament each year. If you are craving some brisket, I don't think you could do much better than a trip to Adam's. read more

I stopped in while traveling through the Goldsboro area a couple of days ago for an early dinner because the food was recommended by some locals. It was absolutely fantastic. It is literally on the side of the highway in a rural setting and is very small but there are big flavors coming out of this small establishment. I was encouraged to get the brisket. They have a wide range of options. The brisket was supremely tender and the mac and cheese was absolutely fantastic. Everything was hot and they really give you your money's worth. The potato salad was also good as well and had a sweet flavor to it was is commonplace to the south. You will not be disappointed if you love good, authentic Southern BBQ. Enjoy! read more

This is my go-to restaurant for big dinners and lunches. I have ordered several of the whole briskets and pork butts for the holidays as well as trays of collards and mac and cheese. I really enjoy getting a tray of pulled pork and ribs with sides of collards and mac and cheese. It is cool to walk into a business and they know who you are or you are out shopping and they carry on a conversation with you. After our fellow Yelper and friend Rick N.'s very positive review of this small place on the edge of BBQ "alley", we knew we had to visit, and soon - so we picked Wed. We had laid out a barbecue day trip that would go from Greensboro, down US Highway 70 through Goldsboro, La Grange, Kinston, and into New Bern, and then back the same route. On that trip we visited Ken's Grill, Moore's Old Thyme BBQ, McCalls, Wilbers, and our final stop at Adams. We picked up at least a pound of barbecue ($9.25 at Adams) at each stop, and at Adams we added a pound of Beef Brisket ($12.78), and 1/2 BBQ Chicken ($6 or so), a pint of Slaw ($3.49), and a pint of Brunswick stew ($4.25). As noted there is no inside seating, in fact this place is about as bare bones as almost any true BBQ joint I can think of except maybe Cobb's in Farmville. There is a small counter area inside where you order and pay. The day we were there it was well into the 90's and there was no air conditioning - staff must be very loyal. The pork here is sweeter than most Eastern NC BBQ, not near Lexington style, but noticeably sweeter. It has some decent heat, the meat is tender & moist, and the chop is nice, and there is some hint of smokiness. But the sweetness pushes this barbecue down the line for me, away from my top 10, maybe around the 15 - 20 mark. The Beef Brisket has excellent flavor, has some great outside char, but is not as tender as some. The BBQ Chicken is good, but not great - it is basically smoked chicken with a sweet tomato based sauce. Like the Brisket, it lacked tenderness, and BBQ Chicken should be falling off the bone tender. The Slaw is very sweet, and in combination with the pork is a little overpowering. The Brunswick stew was pretty good, with some spice to it, but I don't care for green beans in this stew. Everything we tried at Adams was very good, but I think there is better around, much of it close around. The do not offer hushpuppies here, but rather have cornsticks, and if not ordered separately, they only come with plates or bulk - 1/2 doz costs $1.25. Also there is no BBQ sauce, house or otherwise, with purchases here - cost 50 cents for a cup - WOW! We did a taste test of all 5 chopped pork barbecues before we left the vicinity of Adams, utilizing the purchases of the day. Our ranking order then, while still fresh and warm, was: Ken's (head & shoulders ahead), Moore's, Wilbers, Adams, and then McCalls (though we really like the heat in McCalls). We repeated the tasting at home last night with the top 4, and the results were unchanged. These are ALL very good, and these "results" simply reflect our personal tastes. Others will see it differently, that's what taste is all about. The 19th century English critic, poet, and writer James Henry Leigh Hunt said: "If you are ever at a loss to support a flagging conversation, introduce the subject of eating." Great roadside joint on hwy 70 in Grantsboro, NC. A little building alongside a produce stop, this place knows how to cook barbecue. I came home with a family pack (1-lb pork BBQ, 1-lb brisket, 1 side of collards and 1 side of spicy Mac-n-cheese. A container of spicy sweet sauce too! Everything was delicious! Right amount of smoke, not over salted. Everything tasted great! We will return in the cool weather. How anyone could rate this establishment 5-Stars is beyond me. Seems to be dying a slow death. Every time I have driven by on my way to Goldsboro, I have never seen more than one car parked in the lot, even at lunch time. But, being a lover of BBQ, I had to stop on my way back (Fri @ abt 1:45pm), and give it a try. There were no other cars/customers there when I pulled in. I asked the young man at the register if they had a combo plate with Brisket and Ribs, and He said yes... so I whipped out my credit card. He then informed me that they took Cash or Check only. Seriously? Do they not realize how much business is lost by not accepting Debit/Credit cards ??? Then He added; there is an ATM right behind you (ahh, another profit point, although I don't think it comes close to the business they are losing). So, I tell him I'll be back in a sec., that I have cash in the car. In the meantime, another customer shows up. So when I come back, ( in abt 20 seconds), my order is wiped from the register, and I stand there for a good 5-7 minutes while this lady makes up her mind. For some reason, the guy has trouble getting my order put back in, and I also need a receipt, for which I wait several more minutes while he fumbles, loading a roll of paper into the printer. Another young fellow brings out my order before our transaction is finished (that was scary), and starts fussing at the fellow, asking him whether I had ordered a small or large combo? He then tells him that He needs to "shape up", or else.. as I'm leaving. Pretty sure it was a large combo. Abt. $18 for the combo, which included two side.. cole slaw and baked beans. Not a bad price if the food were excellent; which it was far from. The flavor of the slaw was OK, but it was grated to a very fine texture, which was kind of gross. The Beans.. that was the best part of the lunch, they were good. The Beef Brisket was under the Pork Ribs, which were covered with a good amount of sauce. The result was a distorted flavor profile of the Brisket. I could not tell if either meat were actually smoked. And I had meant to ask, but did not want to interrupt their bickering. I smoke a lot of meats, and never trim fat until after the cooking process, as the fat adds flavor and moisture to the meat while cooking. Well, they don't bother to trim any fat before serving. Which is not appetizing once in the mouth, and I sure as heck do not like paying for a bunch of fat! So in summary, I can understand the lack of vehicles in the parking lot, and certainly have to question any 4/5-Star reviews that are posted here. read more

So glad we ignored the two star review and decided to try this roadside place anyway. The barbecue is amazing. We had a pulled pork sandwich and brisket chili. The sandwich was packed full of tasty and tender BBQ pork - tangy and just the right amount of sweet. The chili was also very tasty with a good kick from a. It if jalapeño. I would have given this five stars if the cornbread sticks had been even half as good as the BBQ. I'll go again and will request a different side next time. read more

EXCELLENT brisket!!! Great little place. Friendly staff. BBQ sauce available: sweet, hot sweet, vinegar, hot vinegar (Texas Pete's added for heat). Sodas, bottled water, and sweet tea (just sweet enough, not too sweet) available. Platters with sides and bread (we had cornbread sticks) available, or you can order meat only (as I did). Brisket can be requested lean or moist. Lean had very little fat, the moist also has very little fat, but added moisture. We tried the BBQ sauce and hot vinegar - both were great on the brisket. Brownies and cookies were homemade (both on counter). So good, I bought additional brisket to go!! First visit and we are only in the area for a few days, but we would DEFINITELY go back! (We also enjoyed eating at the picnic table outside!) Prices fair and reasonable for quality food. read more

The meat was not smoked well, the sides were off....I mean, how do you mess up Mac and cheese....my 8 year old couldnt get down the first bite, and that never happens. Second time here and great both times. I got the bbq tray. It comes with bbq, slaw and a corn stick. The bbq is excellent. Great flavor, just enough heat, a little bark and no fatty pieces. The slaw is great-cabbage chopped fine and nothing wierd added in. Staff is super nice. Last time I got the Mac n cheese and collard greens. Both are excellent. I wouldn't change a thing. read more
