Ok. Like I said, I usually do my own auto repairs, and I buy as many recycled parts as possible. But sometimes, even a super smart, good looking over-achiever like me needs to turn to an expert. Adams Fleet is a small (I mean small) family business that looks like it's right out of 1975. Don't let that fool you. These people know cars, and they know how to treat customers. My Explorer had some major transmission issues, it's a 5 speed manual, and I couldn't fix it. I went down to Adams, as it's close to my house, dropped off the truck and was told somebody would call me. So I get home and not even 10 mins later, Adams fleet calls and says third gear is shot, and needs a rebuild. Wow! I'm thinking AAMCO and $2500 repair bill. Nope. They tell me they will find me a used transmission, low miles and replace the clutch. Less than $900.00. Holy bat-s^&t! So I say "fix it, fix it, fix it, puleeeze fix it." 3 days later, trucks done, and they even went through the truck to make sure nothing else was needed. Well, the brakes needed replacing. But I said "that I can do myself" and that was that. No high pressure sales talk, no vague threats about the brakes failing, just a friendly "Hey Mike, you're gonna need brakes soon". So that was an awesome experience. Now.. I also have a Merkur XR4Ti (look it up). Had a turbo issue, so I called Adams, and say "Hey, my Merkur turbo is a bit low on boost, I think the wastegate is bad." And the mechanic says "Mike, I'm not really familiar with that particular car, and I would rather not do the work" ...Did I hear that right? A mechanic that was upfront, and honest about doing work on a car? You have to respect that. I can go on and on. Adams did a clutch job on my son's Saturn at a very good price. I recommend them to everybody. So if you need work done and think your mechanic is jerking you around, Call Adams Fleet. Now remember I said small business?? It is, and if you do decide to drop by and are told they can't fit you in, don't take it personally. It is a small business. They will do everything in their power to fix your car, sometimes it may take a bit longer. Be flexible and you will not be disappointed. And yes, they stand behind their work. Oh and the Merkur? The wastegate did go bad, but I fixed it myself. I'm just that kind of guy. :-) read more
